Well, Kris, I think you proved that it doesn’t work, so congratulations on that : ). Actually I think the wings could have worked (if they intended to take a serious photo), the boots no way. Out of his three photos in the magazine (I don’t count this one) the best is the “Reality” one.

That photoshoot sucked so hard. I mean you have three attractive people, and you’re supposed to be a high-fashion magazine, and yet the pictures they came up with were amateurish and not interesting at all. Oh, Adam is in brown leather, rather than black leather. Lames.

But the lulz of Kris’s wing picture is good, so there is that.

I blame Nina Garcia no longer being contributing editor for the magazine. No, I have no idea, but I’m having my fandoms colliding and just going with it.

He seemed to have fun. I’m glad he is now taking risk. It makes him more interesting.

Those boots need to be worn by someone with long, lean legs. They made Kris’ legs look stumpy.

From the photos I’ve seen, the whole shoot was pretty much ‘so what’. Let’s just say, it doesn’t make me want to run out and buy it. From that standpoint, yeah it’s a disappointment.

These photos are terrible. I think I was expecting too much possibly. The “wings” pic reminds me of some silly bubbletweet pic or something. The others aren’t even interesting. That was a lot of wasted anticipation.

LOL. Funny stuff. Is Elle like a fashion magazine or something? It looks like a Halloween outfit.

Adam looks gorgeous in his pics. That one with the aviators on…woah. That boy knows how to work the camera. The other two…meh…but that is to be expected. The one with Kris in Adam gear is fun. I like Kris and Allison, but there’s not much you can do in the way of being provocative or interesting with them. Allison is a young girl and Kris is well…Kris. Their styles and personalities are kind of static imo. Adam is much more fun to look at and probably to photograph too.

I am still in shock about this photo. I have never seen anything like it in Elle before.

Yes, this picture sucks and Kris looks ridic. but he knows he looks ridic and the point of the picture was his looking ridic. The author in his very subt-tle way was trying to point out that trying to make people look like something there not is silly and WRONG! Which I totally disagree with him about, and among many other reasons, the photoshoot as a whole was a fail. Fashion, and especially high fashion, should be able to try and sell very different personas and images in a way that is beautiful or at least interesting. The idea of this photoshoot was pedantic, and the pictures from it were accordingly also boring, obvious, they were not high art and/or high-fashion. They weren’t even that terribly flattering to three attractive, interesting looking people.

This author or whatever, could actually have made those wings and boots work if he had been doing his job and worked with Kris to sell it. It’s a still photograph, the awkwardness of it happening doesn’t have to come through. But this guy and Kris played it safe and for laughes. Which is fine for Kris, and actually props to him for that. But utter fail for this photographer or whatever, who was in charge of this article and shoot. He should have known better.

ummmm… something is lacking in the direction and composition for this year’s elle shoot… to each his or her own, but i think the shoot for the top 10 for season 7 was more in keeping with elle’s hi fashion vibe… and they managed to make all the contestants look pretty dang good…

I am going with Epic fail. I don’t like the pictures (especially the one with Kris–I think he just looks stupid and it’s awkward), I think the explanation is stupid, frankly, and….well, this isn’t what I think of when I think of Elle, that’s for damned sure. Last year’s were much better (tho LOL at the sexiest pictures you’ll ever see of Archie…ha ha ha).

I don’t think I’ll buy the magazine. I don’t need to see these pictures, and I wonder if non-Idol readers will have any clue, or will go, WTF is this? I have much better pics of Adam, anyway, in Details (yummy) and InStyle and RS.

I think this is the worst Elle spread ever.

Whatever intentions the photographer may have had, the end result is that the wings photo make a mockery of Kris. He doesn’t look sexy or cute or angelic or glam in this photo, he looks awkward and weird. Elle and 19 did a disservice to Kris letting this photo be published.

I was expecting something epic from elle. I was thinking that the shoot will be more intimate and sexy. Showing something different. Sadly these are not epic. These are just everyday pictures. But i still like Adam’s aviator look. (the boy knows how to look good on cam) I love his boots! I would love a female version of that. Aliison looks pretty. Kris – a definite no no to wings

hey suebrody – lol now, but at the time the photos were taken, they were to some pretty hot, hee hee… the fans had never seen david a photographed in that way before, so it really had everyone buzzing for weeks… i think elle even said the response to david’s 2 photos received the most feedback and positive response… i dunno what they were aiming for with these photos… i guess i expected some photos along the lines of the ones last year… great clothes [i thought syesha's photo was fiercer than fierce, as well as brooke's] , moody with that hi fashion patina elle is known for… eh, i’ll live, but it’s not what i expected them to do with three photogenic subjects… and why didn’t they shoot the whole top 10 this year… just an inquiring mind….

I have to say that after the Michelin man, this is the funniest idol photo I have ever seen – actually, it matches the Michelin man one. Also, the boots are a couple of inches away from being thigh boots All of a sudden I’m gaining new appreciation for Kris’ endless plaid outfits…:)

Those are from Elle? They look like an assignment from one of my photography classes. Actually, I had some crazy talented photographers in my classes, and they could do better than that on a limited budget. Gah! I wish I didn’t care about this crap, but it just won’t go away. Once you see enough of what things can look like, anything less is just not acceptable.

I think its all about intent. Adam’s album cover was intentionally “campy” and Kris’ photograph was intentionally “funny”. It will not ruin their career simply because people are poking fun at them once in a while. People will do it whether you give them reason to or not.

Sorry I was responding to an earlier comment which disappeared. (wondering why people weren’t giving Kris as much grief for this as Adam’s album cover…both fairly silly photos…JMHO. “Unfortunate mishap” was just my take on that cover, it could’ve been so much better if done right) Upon reflection, I think the right answer to that question is probably that one was an album cover, and one a small inside photo that far fewer people will see. ( I pretty much hate them both…. the pics…not the people )

I think the problem with Kris’ angel pic is that his shirt is untucked. Or rather, the shirt is completely wrong. If he wore and sleeveless black shirt, or, (don’t hate me) a black tank, I think it could have worked.

Right now, it looks like he was rifling through the Halloween custom box and threw that on. It could have been very hot if it was done correctly.

The pics are just awright. I will admit that I hated Adam’s look during WLL (Top 4), but he recovered nicely Top 3 and looked AMAZING Top 2 (aw, emo adam hair, I lurrrve you). Adam DOES dress better on his own (thank God Michelin Man, however–where’d he go?!). I think Allison came out best out of the three, but Kris’s Wizard of Oz (heh) pic just does not sit right with me. This doesn’t seem like a picture that would be in a fashion magazine. It reminds me of a picture you might find on facebook. You know, where a group of kids get together and take goofy pictures and then put them on their FB page. It’s strange to see it in Elle.

What is Kris doing with his right hand? He looks very uncomfortable. You really have to know when to say no.

Right now, it looks like he was rifling through the Halloween custom box and threw that on. It could have been very hot if it was done correctly.

It’s supposed to look like a kid playing with a halloween costume box! The context of the whole page tells that the picture’s idea is to show that every singer has their own style. It practically says in the text that “to show how to NOT do it, we put Kris in Adam gear. See? Not his style!”

Personally I think that Kris just wanted to try on Adam’s gear for laughs, and looked so cute that the photographed just had to take pictures. Those boots are actually Adam’s boots, only they are so big that they go almost to Kris’ knees!

Just to put this all in perspective, while the debate here rages over whether this photograph will tank Kris’ career, Kris Allen is performing at a gala benefit for the Dream Foundation which is a non-profit dedicated to granting the dreams for adults with life-limiting illness. One of his songs was “Man in the Mirror” which he nailed. I applaud Kris for caring more about helping people with his music than some silly picture in a magazine.

I dun think Elle gets what Kris is all about. He looks extremely good and comfortable in his plain tee and plaid shirt. WTF are they thinking by applying so much make-up on him and pairing an acoustic guitar with that vest and shirt look? They just look so ridiculous and incompatible!

A coupls of weeks ago he plays the Dolphins tailgate party and while everyone is waiting for him to introduce new songs on YouTube, someone uploads a lot of videos of his and Adam’s GMA perfomances, making it very hard for people to find the Dolphins videos. Another strange coincidence.

IMO, it’s okay ross. Kris’s video far outweighs any negativity this pictures could even begin to bring. The picture (I believe) to most represents Kris’s awesome sense of humor.

The picture of Kris is funny and certainly proves the point. But this whole layout looks like something out of Seventeen, not Elle. It’s almost yearbooky. Very strange, not at all what I would have expected, especially after last season’s very artistic spread.

Wow! Kris in black wings and silver platforms. Ummm, he looks ridiculous, but I’m guessing that’s what he was going for. I’m glad he does not take himself so seriously as to not be photographed in that getup. Good for Kris! I hope he had fun tromping around in Adam’s big shoes.

Are you saying that you think people post YouTubes and posted this photo and are commenting on it, as some sort of…plot? Forgive me if I’m not understanding this correctly. It was Kris (and Adam and Allison) fans who wanted to find this and got this scan out there, not to mock, but because we were looking forward to it. I know, I was part of the thread that was where this picture was from, and believe me, it was chock full of anticpation, not plotting. Well we were before we saw the fail whale of the pictures. And the Ford (I assume you mean this, not GMA)videos were posted when they were because someone happened to get the DVD that day, which I also know because I was in that thread when they were posted as well. There wasn’t some plot, except to flail as much as possible for all the good things that happen to Kradam. It just so happens that yes, sometimes they happen at around the same time.

I thought Kris looked adorable in the boots and wings. Keep in mind, too, that these are crapass scans, so little details like facial expressions and the amount of airbrushing can’t truly be judged until you’ve got the hard copy in your hand. These are like the song snippets, except in scan form.

I think they all look terrific in their pictures, the problem I have is the composition of the layout. The way the pics were laid out, with a cheesy inset shape and the background shopped out of the other combined with the ridiculous bubbles and star containing the text says People Mag or EW, NOT high fashion Elle. A shame, because laid out differently I think they could have been quite impactful.

I hope that there is a video of that MITM acoustic at the gala ( doubt it though).
I downloaded the mp3 of Kris’ MITM from a radio show ( I think about several days after his premiere of the LLWD song), and seriously, it is on repeats like crazy. His tone of voice is so incredible, such an emotional rendition. LOVE it.

I love this picture. Whether it really was his ideas or the magazine’s, it shows him off as being a good sport and able to make fun of himself. Those are rarely qualities that can hurt a person in the public eye.

The overall Elle shoot and article stinks. I had high hopes after seeing last year’s shoot with the top 10. That was stunning. This is, as others have said, Tiger Beat.

I was referring to videos of Kris and Adam on GMA with David Cook, that
appeared on YouTube at the exact time everyone was looking for the tailgate party videos. Since these were old performances, it was curious they suddenly appeared and frustrated everyone who was clicking on the “newest” feature on YouTube, trying to find new video of Kris at that moment. If somebody was a fan of Kris or knew anything about him, they probably would know he was premiering his songs at that moment. So why put up a load of old GMA performances at the same moment?

I’m just saying stuff like this always seems to happen, and even if people only do it because they need to feel important, or steal focus from someone as a prank or a gag, if nothing else it’s ill advised and immature.

It appeared as of today (well yesterday) of all days, because that’s when the magazine showed up, of all days. That’s it, full stop. People had been on the lookout for the article, because they were fans and they knew the magazine would be hitting the streets soon. Indeed the SJP cover and article could be found on ONTD proper the day before yesterday. So the magazine was known to be out there. Just like the way that some Adam fan spotted the Details magazine in LA before it was supposed to be released and put up the photos then. If Adam had something else going on, it wouldn’t have mattered, because they found the pics, we wanted to see the pics, so they got posted.

That’s it. No conspiracy, just posting things the minute they become available, because that’s what places like ontd_ai and others do. They find content related to the show, and post it for everyone to enjoy.

People aren’t posting the pictures, or loading those YouTubes in question, to feel self-important, or to steal focus or to prank anyone. Any more than mj put up that picture when she saw it for those reasons. It’s content related to AI, people are interested in it and talking about it, so it gets posted when it’s available. Sometimes the content is lulzy or not good, like with Adam and the Michelin Man picture (also gotten from ontd_ai and from Tweets they had sent to the stylist) or the infamous “smellygate” interview. So it’s not specific to anyone, or the plan of anyone, other than fans of AI the show or specific idols, posting content about them. And sometimes the content isn’t what fans would like, or maybe the timing isn’t. But that’s just life, it’s not a conspiracy.

Maybe “end of his career” is an exaggeration, but it’s certainly not any more of an exaggeration that some of the reactions here. More like they were saying/implying that it would harm his career, having a picture of him like this published. I went through and found a few:

Kris isn’t advertising he’s a switch hitter here. He’s advertising that he’s lost his mind.

His people should have never let that pass. At least Adam’s MM photo was clearly a casual behind the scenes catch- this one is the final shot that everyone worked on to look good. People actually sat around a table looking at that and decided it was OK.

Whatever intentions the photographer may have had, the end result is that the wings photo make a mockery of Kris. He doesn’t look sexy or cute or angelic or glam in this photo, he looks awkward and weird. Elle and 19 did a disservice to Kris letting this photo be published.

I think it’s a major overreaction and people who actually HAVE the magazine will be able to read the text that goes with it (which so many people here were originally not able to do and obviously didn’t see the multiple posts in which people provided the corresponding text), which makes the photo make sense. Since people didn’t do that here, of course they would make a mountain out of a molehill.

I also don’t think people realize that there are OTHER PHOTOS of Kris in there. I get the feeling that a lot of them think that this wings photo is Kris’s main photo, which is most definitely NOT the case.

Kris is such a good sport in going along with all the goofy stuff he’s asked to do in photos and interviews.

I think the pic puts Kris in a good light; as others have said, it shows that he doesn’t take himself too seriously and that he’s in on the joke. The picture was taken to prove a point: that each star’s style has to “fit” his or her personality and can’t be forced. Elle could have taken a gorgeous picture of Kris in the wings and boots–he could have been posed in a more artistic way and shot in black and white (total missed opportunity there!); that could have resulted in a pic closer to the ones from the S7 spread. But because creating a beautiful shot wasn’t the point, they went with the funny pic. The point would not have come across as strongly if Adam had been dressed in Kris’s style, because the effect would not have been as jarring (there are plenty of pics on the web of Adam in jeans and plaid and without make-up). If anything, this pic is the most interesting of the whole spread, as the others don’t reveal anything new about the Idols or put them in a different light, the way last year’s spread did.

To me, one of the biggest fails of this photo is that if I hadn’t been informed that it was supposed to be a photo of Kris dressed as Adam, I wouldn’t have known it. I’d have just taken it to be a joke photo of Kris. Why the hell didn’t the stylist put Kris in something like a sick leather jacket, graphic t-shirt, multiple studded belts, snakeskin boots and leather gloves, with some guyliner and possibly a cat ‘o nine tails to round it off? *That* would be recognizably Adam. Not this ridiculous mess.

Well, but that stuff is not theirs to post. For anyone to enjoy. It’s copyrighted. It’s okay if mj posts something like that, that has already been circulating on the ‘net, but I don’t really think it’s the place of ontd_ai to circulate it in the first place. You can see what happened in this case. A picture is taken out of the context of the article, and also it’s blown up larger than it appeared in the article so the quality of it is much worse than the magazine intended, etc.

I’m not a big fan of ontd_ai, sorry. They do a lot of stuff I don’t agree with (yeah, they also do some good things, but that doesn’t change my opinion of the other stuff).

Ross, When I read about the GMA videos being posted on youtube, I googled Kris to see what the fuss was about, and yeah there were a hell of a lot videos posted under Kris. I think I had to go 3 pages just to see were the videos ended, but had you googled Adam you would have seen those same videos appearing under him, so who knows what the purpose of posting those videos were for and nearly half of them were like 15sec videos it was wasted time and space.

No need for Adam to do plaid. He has worn plaid several times and he pulled it off beautifully. I was thinking that Adam wearing the wings will be awesome. I hope he does something with wings in the future. Adam really have a sense of style and he pretty much can pull-off anything.

Ross, When I read about the GMA videos being posted on youtube, I googled Kris to see what the fuss was about, and yeah there were a hell of a lot videos posted under Kris. I think I had to go 3 pages just to see were the videos ended, but had you googled Adam you would have seen those same videos appearing under him, so who knows what the purpose of posting those videos were for and nearly half of them were like 15sec videos it was wasted time and space.

Fabulosity, thanks for describing what I was talking about. When I and a lot of other people were waiting for the video from the Dolphins tailgate party to be posted, and kept checking YouTube under “Kris Allen,” after a while all these videos suddenly were uploaded. Naturally, I have no way of proving somebody was doing this deliberately, but it was odd. Like you say, there were several pages, and some videos were only seconds long. And of course this stuff was weeks old, so the timing wasn’t easy to explain, either.

If you looked up Adam, or GMA, or whatever, you would have also seen these videos. But at that moment I think it’s safe to say a large number of Kris fans were on YouTube wanting to find those tailgate party videos. They had a specific purpose to be online looking up “Kris Allen” at that moment. So, dependng on your point of view, it may or may not be hard to believe that someone else, who had all these videos of Adam and Kris at the GMA performance, had no clue Kris was debuting new songs from his album at that same time. And just coincidendally chose that time to flood YouTube with a lot of filler that happened to have Kris’s name attached to it.

My personal opinion is it wasn’t a coincidence, but YMMV.

As for this Elle photo shoot stuff and the timing of it, I guess that after that video incident I suppose it’s natural to be suspicious of the timing of things that seem to ruin the enjoyment by Kris’s fans of his special moments.

Ross, I get what you are saying. I’ve also noticed that whenever Kris is in the media/news in a positive light, something is immediately posted or uploaded that takes away any thunder. If a positive article or quote shows up, any negative from the article is what is featured.

I really get your frustration with the youtube uploads. I also do my searches using the uploaded today or this week feature and they get buried FAST.

Wow, I’m missing all the “intended thwarting” of Kris’ success in the spotlight that others seem to be seeing. All I see is Kris looking really ridiculous in wings and platform boots. Did the intentional thwarters of Kris’ success drug him and dress him up too?

I agree that the wings were a bonehead move, but I sort of like the boots. I’d like to hear whether Kris enjoyed being tall. LOL They just seemed to be having a little fun with this shoot. Sometimes that turns out amusing and other times it’s more WTF?! This time, for me, appears to be the latter. The fact that he’s a little too “made up” makes it worse, imo.

Ah well, life is often hit or miss, and this is a miss for Kris….
