UPDATE: Amazon has a link up for Kelly’s upcoming album, with March 17 as the release date. You can pre-order it HERE

Auditions took place yesterday for the video for Kelly Clarkson’s upcoming single “My Life Would Suck Without You” and the shoot is set to take place in Los Angeles over the weekend.

Wayne Isham, who helmed David Cook’s “Light On” video is on board to direct.

The video plot is described as a “cute tale of romance from childhood into adulthood.”

The casting director is looking for a lead guy who is “rugged, cool, edgy, all American good looking guy. Not a bulky jock or a skinny rocker guy. Also must be able to act and be comfortable kissing Kelly Clarkson.”

Kelly is going to act in her own video…

They’re also casting young ones to play Kelly and her guy as children, “I need a talented lead guy to play our tbd lead male on the play ground. Must be a strong actor and have up to date paperwork.” and Little Kelly, “I need an extremely talented little actress to play Kelly Clarkson on a playground meeting her future true love. Please make sure all paperwork is up to date and research Kelly’s current look.”

So, there you have it. Sounds cute. What do you think?

The single must be ready to drop soon. I’m hearing January, but nothing official yet.

thanks josh for the heads up.

rugged, cool, edgy, all American good looking guy. Not a bulky jock or a skinny rocker guy.

Sounds like David Cook to me. :blink_tb:

  • lovegoodmusic

à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Rugged, cool, edgy, all American good looking guy.

That sounds like David Cook, lol. I think it would be great if DC would star in Kelly’s video.

  • Duke

My Life Would Suck Without You? lol tooooo funny.

I just hope its not angry-punk volume part 2 for kelly. im praying she has more blues/mainstream in her 4th album.

  • cheese

Heh, I had the same thought about that description fitting Cook. (I really doubt that David would spend his vacation shooting a Kelly video for $1,000, but it would be pretty cool and would bring a lot of attention to both of them.)

  • leome

LMAO! I was going to post the same… you guys beat me to it.

The title still makes me go WTF!, but I’m curious. And the idea for the video sounds cool…

  • Trina

HELL YEAH Kelly is back!! Now damn it RCA make that Kelly/David duet happen so I can die happy.

  • terps

I just hope its not angry-punk volume part 2 for kelly. im praying she has more blues/mainstream in her 4th album

Tedder told Digital Spy that Clarkson’s new songs will feature big choruses” and “heavy drum programming, and he mentioned that the songs are influenced by the band Garbage, while one song will feature an experimental bridge that was inspired by Mozart,[53] and stated in an interview that Clarkson’s fourth album was “the best album yet”. Also in an interview she stated that she had written a song called “Cry” with Jason Halbert.

  • hypertwink

I just hope its not angry-punk volume part 2 for kelly. im praying she has more blues/mainstream in her 4th album.

I want her to record Up to the Mountain, since I so love her version of that song from IGB. Please? Even as a bonus track?

I really doubt that David would spend his vacation shooting a Kelly video

IIRC, he did say Kelly was his favorite Idol (or was it the only Idol he knows?) but with the recent concert going – 4 or 5 now – Carrie now replaces her in his affections. :biggrin_wp:

  • tinawina

KELLLYYYYYYY!!!!!!! LOL. Ok, can you tell I’m excited?

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

She tops my list for anticipated new releases….!

    Cannot wait.

  • FolkFan

I’m a little nervous based on the title of the song, but fingers crossed. I also love this: “Also must be able to act and be comfortable kissing Kelly Clarkson.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Heh.

  • http://stores.ebay.com/BookWomanBlues-Book-Nook Bobbi

Can’t stand the title of this song, but I’m eagerly anticipating Kelly’s cd!

  • abbysee

All this idol music. I need a p/t gig.

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

    I need a p/t gig.

    Heh. No kidding.

  • Trina

but with the recent concert going – 4 or 5 now – Carrie now replaces her in his affections.

:wub_tb: A ‘Carrie’ also got a mention in his CD thank you’s :wub_tb: Kelly could still be his favorite that, um he’s not friends with? lol Musically I think they would be a good match.

  • SashaB

Yay! So thrilled about the video news. Thanks MJ. Kelly’s such an artist. I loved My December and listen to it all the time.

Y’all are getting me too excited about this actor and mentioning a DC look alike. I would love for Kelly and DC to duet. My two favorite AI winners – on one stage? Heck, even if they weren’t on the same stage but just in the same video – kind of like how Pacino and Deniro were never in the same shot of Th God Father movies? I’ll take it. Isham, please make it happen.

  • Squirrelly

Rugged, cool, edgy, um, David Cook? He can act, too, you know.

  • Squirrelly

Okay, can we vote on this: I vote for David Cook. Come on, David, you could spend a few extra minutes in a Kelly Clarkson video, right? Please?????? OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Jolene

Heh, should have known I wouldn’t be the only one to immediately think “David Cook” upon reading that description. LMAO. We all got such a one track mind, don’t we?

I’d love for them to duet some day, I think they could make beautiful music together (yeah, that sounds dirty for some reason).

  • YellowClouds

I love this girl. Missed her, can’t wait to hear the new stuff.
I actually like how the title is on the risky side and not bland. That’s the kind of music I want to hear from her.

Y-E-S to the Cook-Clarkson collab. I’ve been thinking about it since the first time I heard DC sing. It must happen.

  • smartcookie

I was also thinking David Cook, but then I figured they probably want someone more in the obvious heartthrob category, like Keanu back when he did Paul’s video. You know, a James Franco type. Somebody really cute who won’t steal focus from Kelly. Which Cook would so totally do. Plus everybody would be clamoring for him to sing as long as he’s there, and that’s might just kill us. Hee.

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

I’d rather see him act in his own video first.

    But…before that, I’d love a Kelly/Cookie/Daughtry trio. Yep, I would.

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

Not a bulky jock or a skinny rocker guy.

    That’s funny…. :laugh_tb:

  • Jolene

    Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d love a Kelly/Cookie/Daughtry trio. Yep, I would.

OMG. That might be too much for me to handle. LOL

  • IdolFanatic

I am so excited for her new stuff! I’ve missed hearing from her. It makes me want to tell those who thought she dropped off the face of the earth to kiss my ass. I actually thought My December was good. I don’t see why it got slammed so much. Didn’t it still sell like over 700,000 copies? That ain’t too shabby. I just don’t get why people think that less than platinum is a failure.

I just hope its not angry-punk volume part 2 for kelly. im praying she has more blues/mainstream in her 4th album.

I’d be up for a change like that as long as she keeps her Kelly Clarkson edge to it while still showing off her awesome pipes. To me, she will always be the best Idol.

  • Kirsten

Didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t it still sell like over 700,000 copies?

    780K so far.

I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t see why it got slammed so much.

When the head of your label is going around telling every media outlet that will listen that your CD sucks, it kind of sets the tone. I don’t exactly know what Clive was trying to do there, but I’m sure that it didn’t help move very many units.

  • IdolFanatic

Yeah I also heard a lot of complaints about the songs being too angsty and dark. But so what. I think too many people expected to keep her wide-eyed innocence and sunny demeanor on every song and continue singing songs like A Moment Like This. I say let the girl write and sing songs about what she’s feeling and experiencing. That’s how people will relate to her most.

  • tinydcfan

Like everyone else here, my immediate thought upon reading that description was DC!!! And also like so many here, my longtime dream has been for the two of them to collaborate. My two fave Idols together – don’t know if I could handle it, but I’d sure like the opportunity!

  • http://www.myspace.com/swood1104 Sarah

YAY! I can’t wait to finally hear this song and see the video. Don’t really care who the lead male is, but I don’t think it’s such a good idea for it to be DC. (Must be a bad fan, because he didn’t come to mind at all when I read the description. *shrug*) But I think it’d be a huge longshot for that to happen anyway.

The album is supposed to drop in March, right? Is that official or just rumored? I just know that I heart Kelly and really want her to kick ass with this new album.

  • Keel

I’m a fan of Kelly and DC but for some reason I just can’t get on the duet or video collaboration bandwagon. IDK why but it just sounds so cheesy to me. Perhaps it’s the memories of all those cheesy AI group performances and, therefore, the thought of two AI alums singing a duet or acting together in a video, to me, equals Velveeta Squared. (The only AI duet I ever really enjoyed was the D Squared one from the finale and that’s probably only because their voices blended (or rather contrasted) exceptionally and unexpectedly well. Plus, they are both great singers. (P.s. I didn’t really like the MJ/Carly duet.))

  • sma11ie

Is My December any good? I loved Breakaway, am a casual fan of Kelly’s, but I gotta agree that My December probably underperformed due to bad promo. I actually really liked Never Again, and angsty dark Kelly, but forgot about getting the album when I never heard another single that I liked (it usually takes me 2 good singles before an album purchase). Also, when her tour got canceled and she ended up on the road with Reba, I kind of lost interest because I’m not into country or Reba’s sound. As long as the new album isn’t country and has a couple good songs, I’ll definitely check it out.

  • leome

    Is My December any good?

I think it’s her best… If you have the chance, check it out.

  • dv

Kellys official website is undergoing some changes (formating a new layout), they put up a link for pre-ordering the album at amazon with March 17th as the release date.

sma11ie – There obviously weren’t any really big pop hits on My December (clearly what Clive wanted and didn’t get) but IMO there are some hidden gems.

“Sober” is gorgeous and haunting. One of her best songs, period. “Be Still” is probably also one of my favorite songs – her voice sounds incredible on it.

But the last song on the album, “Irvine”, is, just… heartbreaking and amazing at the same time. She said in an interview that she wrote it after a tour stop in Irvine, CA at a time when she’d been on the road forever and was exhausted mentally, physically, and emotionally. She said she went into a bathroom after the show and just broke down. You can feel the pain and raw emotion in her voice on the track. The things she does with her voice on that song (and the hidden track that comes right after it, “Chivas”) are unlike anything I’ve ever heard from her before. And it’s not “slickly” produced, lending more to the raw feel of it.

I love a good pop song, don’t get me wrong, but those 3 songs, IMO, are some of the best she’s done. They’re all ballads, but explore more deeply the side of Kelly that I think we began to see in “Because of You”. There are other good songs on the album too (I also loved “Never Again”, like you), but those 3 (4, including “Chivas”) are my favorites.

  • hardkandy

Yes! Kelly! I can’t wait. My most favorite winner ever.

  • IdolFanatic

Sarah, excellent reviews of some of her best songs. I totally agree. She’s so much more than just a pop singer and I hope she doesn’t lose that kind of heartfelt emotion and artistry on her new album. There’s got to be some middle ground where she can get what she wants and still give the label some really marketable material too.

  • LK08

Sarah- you should get paid to promote Kelly. You made me want to go listen to those songs.

  • elisad

LMAO… That does sound like David. But since he didn’t even act in his own video…

I really don’t like the title, can you imagine singing that line? “Suck” just doesn’t sound good no matter how long the title is. But it’s Dr. Luke, so it should do fine.

  • Suzanne

Well, I think it sounds like Jake Gyllenhaal. Wouldn’t it be great to see a video w/a celeb bit–like when Dennis Quaid was in Bonnie Raitt’s Something to Talk About video?

  • smartcookie

I said James Franco before, but I think Barry Watson from Samantha Who or the adorable Scott Porter from Friday Night Lights fit the description, too.

  • elisad

    Jake Gyllenhaal…looks like Mahmoud Ahmadinejad…

I love both Barry Watson and Scott Porter!

  • FolkFan

Query: Why is anyone talking about Britney as a mentor, when someone has a new record/single/video coming out, can actually sing, and, you know, was the first American Idol? How about a pop night, with Kelly as the mentor, and she performs the next night on the results show?

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

I really like “My December” I saw her live when she toured to promote the album.

I got a couple of videos

    Chivas

    Up to the Mountain

  • hypertwink

I really really want her to record Up to the Mountain.

  • cookcricket

Okay, I have got to say with the phrasing in “Chivas”, I can totally see her singing the words, “My Life Would Suck Without You” and making it work! I guess we’ll see…

Be still my heart, that “Up to the Mountain” was simply beautiful!

    Thanks for the vids mj!!

  • YellowClouds

Chivas is so awesome. “Youuu areee.. CRAP.” lol

  • primeminister

sma11ie – I agree with Sarah. In fact, “Be Still” “Sober” and “Irvine” are my favorites as well.

  • sma11ie

I got a couple of videos

Awesome, thanks. I might get it…

  • ILOVEDC

you know I thought of david Cook too :rolleyes_tb:

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

    I love “Chivas.”

“Up to the Mountain” still gives me chills. Didn’t she perform that on Season 6′s Idol Gives Back?

    Clive Davis is on crack.

  • http://widyatarina.wordpress.com widz

Clive Davis really didn’t want Kelly to be successful with her third album, did he?

Personally, I really like My December! I can’t wait to listen to her new music! :D
Btw, I also thought of David Cook! Haha

  • windmills

The single is cowritten by Dr. Luke and Max Martin? This has the Hand Of Clive all over it. The media spin’ll be interesting. Are they going to pretend the spat never happened even though Kelly was quoted many times asking what old guys like Clive know about today’s pop and Clive had that speech on AI? I remember at the Velvet Rope someone who seemed to know what he was talking about said the fight was actually The Firm’s strategy to sell the album and enhance Kelly’s artistic cred and Clive’s argument was more with Kelly’s manager than Kelly.

“My December” IMO is not an artistic masterpiece but it’s not the worst album either. The uptempo rock songs are a mess lyrically and vocally, like Hole, Haunted, Judas, and Never Again. Yeah is even worse and One Minute’s not too good either. But Irvine, Maybe, Can I Have A Kiss, Be Still, and Sober are good. I’d like Sober even better if Kelly didn’t get yelly at the end.
