This might not stay up on You Tube for long, so listen while you can…It’s Jordin Spark’s new single “Battlefield,” from her upcoming sophomore release. Jordin will be debuting the tune on this Wednesday’s Idol results show.

In case there’s a takedown, the New York Post has a snippet right HERE.

The song was written and produced by Ryan Tedder (OneRepublic). Hello soaring chorus! Jordin may have another hit on her hands.

What do you think?

ETA: Listen to it HERE.

  • terps

Probably better then any of the songs on her 1st album

  • GeminiDolly

Couldnt get passed the 2 minute mark.

  • luci

I know this song does nothing for me. It is pretty ordinary and skip worthy.

  • Michelle

That was fast — it’s already gone!

  • elephant1212

    meh. average

  • adamisthemanfan

I actually like it. Much better than some of the crap other past Idol contestants are putting out, plus she’s a great singer. I like her style. I hope she does well with her next album.

  • tinawina

I like it. It’s better than Tattoo. I like No Air better, but this is still pretty good.

  • wordnerdarchie

I just tried to listen, and it’s already down, due to copyright violations.

ETA: But I heard it earlier today at a different site, that was linked from DA yes.com. I didn’t save the link, too bad.

  • terps

It will for sure be a hit

  • frogcooke
  • terps

The song doesn’t start strong but it really does end strong

  • weareallinnocent

Meh, for me. But I admit I didn’t listen all the way through, maybe I should if it soars at chorus and ends strong. We’ll see.

  • reeboks1

i think it will be yooooge.

  • NickDaddyo

    Definitely better than “Tattoo”.

  • http://twitter.com/cara_lee pj

Pretty catchy pop tune. I can see this being a hit for her.

  • leome

That’s so overproduced it doesn’t even sound like her all that much.
Not a big fan of the song, but sounds like a hit. I find the chorus a bit annoying, but I think it’s catchy at the same time, so it should work.

  • http://www.myspace.com/chachithegreat chachi

    I really like it!

  • terps

That’s the sing the ends is chorus galore

  • noctem seizure

That’s a hit, possibly a smash hit, although it gets a little overdone at the end. I’m not sure, but did Ryan Tedder write for Archie? Because if so, I’m not sure why not. Whatever you think of him, the guy seems to have the gold, I mean platinum, I mean multi-platinum touch.

He may have even been able to do something with David Cook. I mean, freaking Kathy Dennis co-wrote one of DC’s songs. Like every other kid in junior-high, I had vivid fantasies about Miss-”Touch Me, I Want To Feel Your Body”, but she was a strange choice for collaborator on a rock/ pop-rock album.

  • wordnerdarchie

    Thanks frogcooke. :wub_tb:

  • mitchellvii

Um, hated it. Silly lyrics, weird phrasing.

  • http://stores.ebay.com/BookWomanBlues-Book-Nook Bobbi

I only listened to the snippet and it sounds like today’s typical pop. Doesn’t do much for me but it will probably be a big hit.

  • dv

Thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s so overproduced it doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t even sound like her all that much.

  • heathus

Nope, did not enjoy that at all.

  • carolinacharms

Wait. It’s not a rock song?

  • http://theinsatiablebrain.wordpress.com/ Lele

I have to be honest. I couldn’t make myself click the link. I cannot STAND Jordin Sparks.

  • golcook

It’s true Ryan Tedder has a platinum touch, but all the songs he wrote or co-wrote sound alike. Hear Bleeding Love (Leona), Apologize (One Republic), Already Gone (Kelly), Halo (Beyoncà ©) and Battlefield, have the same beat. All are good songs (all power ballads), but it’s getting boring. Though I like Battelfield and I see it as a hit.

  • Anya

“Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not sure, but did Ryan Tedder write for Archie? Because if so, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not sure why not.”

No, Tedder didn’t write for Archie but did for Blake. He does have a steady stream of income from the Idoldome.

  • lizland

Boring for me, so it will probably be a huge hit on Top 40 along with all the other songs I can’t stand.

It’s better than One Step At a Time, one of the worst songs ever to be a hit by an Idol IMO.

  • http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/profile.php?id=587900002&ref=name cruzceleste

I like Jordin ´s tone… her voice is really good… I liked the song at the begining after the first 2 minustes it gets boring…. to much Battlefield, how many times she sing that word, I think it is to long and I would change the station after the first 1:30 …

  • LakesideUK

I like it, especially when it gets to the “better go and get your armour” bit. It only took a couple of listens for me to remember each section of it so it’s definitely very hooky, though of course that might equal “annoying” if I hear it too often.

It sounds like the sort of thing Rihanna would have a hit with, and Jordin’s voice actually reminds me of Rihanna more on this track than any of her previous ones.

If she gets the kind of radio support she had for her first album I can see this being a smash.

    You go, girl :D

ETA: I’m listening to it here http://www.jordinsparks.cc./

  • lefty

Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s better than One Step At a Time, one of the worst songs ever to be a hit by an Idol IMO.

Oh, how I hated One Step At a Time. Haven’t listened to this yet, but if Tedder wrote it it’s likely to do well. I agree that his sound is starting to get a little tired these days.

Having said that, I hope that it does well for Jordin’s sake.

  • thesheriff

it’s a’ight. somewhat generic voice for me.

  • gingerly

Don’t much like the song but I bet it will do well. And I agree that it’s tons better than One Step at a Time. I’m not a big Jordin fan. I wish her well but haven’t heard anything from her I’d want to buy. I didn’t like No Air until I saw it danced to (awesomely I might add) on SYTYCD.

  • Victoria

No Air > Battlefield > One Step At A Time > Tattoo (I might be biased, since I hate Tattoo)

So, it’s not her worst, but ehh. It’s okay, nothing great IMO. Also, the love/battlefield comparisons have been made before (hello, Pat Benatar!) so it’s not particularly original.

I won’t buy it, but I won’t change the station if it comes on the radio. Unless it’s overplayed, which I’m sure it will be. It sounds like one of those songs radio stations will keep on playing past the point of anyone liking them.

  • sma11ie

SOOO true. I didn’t even know Tedder wrote Halo when I first heard it, but my friends and I instantly said it sounded like Bleeding Love. That said, I actually FLOVE Halo, hated Bleeding Love, and really liked Apologize until it got overplayed. Haven’t heard Already Gone (though I will get around to picking up the album, eventually), and can’t listen to Battlefield yet. I hope it’s more Halo and less Bleeding Love. I actually love Jordin’s voice, and think she’d sound great doing songs like Halo, and it’s be a huge hit.

I always wondered what happened with Tedder and the Davids. After the finale, there were tons of rumours flying around that he was collaborating with them, then later in the summer, Tedder came out and squashed them. I kinda got the impression he submitted songs that didn’t make the cut…? Man, that makes me super-curious to hear what the Davids would’ve sounded like on Ryan Tedder songs. Archie seems like a more natural fit, but DC on a Ryan Tedder song makes me super curious. I can see how such a song wouldn’t fit his album, but it has the potential to be kinda cool, nonetheless.

  • Jocelin

I’m seriously sick of Tedder and Kroeger writing for the various AI alum. It’s starting to sound like a horribly stale formula – a mass produced company brand.

  • Matt

This song is going to be a huge hit. Ever since No Air, Jordin seems to be on the map in terms of hit singles.

I actually wouldn’t be shocked if it dethroned Boom Boom Pow and shot to number one on itunes by Thursday afternoon.

  • lefty

James Morrison also co-wrote a song on his current album with Ryan Tedder. I actually like that song a lot, but it’s got the same kind of soaring chorus (TM MJ) as well.

    I suppose it’s good to have a distinctive sound…

  • terps

I didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t even know Tedder wrote Halo when I first heard it, but my friends and I instantly said it sounded like Bleeding Love

If you think Halo sounds like Bleeding Love just wait until you hear Already Gone

  • hermy

I like it : ). Toward the end it gets a little annoying but I can see it being a hit on the radio.

Can’t wait to check it out, now! Haha, I guess Tedder found a winning formula and is sticking to it. I have to say, I love the soaring chorus in Halo, but loathed it in Bleeding Love (more repetitive, and Leona’s inflections bugged after a while). I liked it in Apologize until I got sick of hearing Tedder’s whiny voice. I’m actually looking forward to checking out Already Gone and Battlefield now, cuz as far as voices go, my preference is as follows: Kelly > Jordin > Beyonce > Leona > Ryan Tedder.

I liked it!, I actually have liked all the Ryan’s collaborations (Halo, Already Gone, Bleeding Love, Apologize), but please stop… It’s really getting boring, and if this continues, all the songs in the radio are going to sound alike.

    I suppose ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s good to have a distinctive soundà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

Yes, but it’s distictive to Ryan and not for the singers, who actually need a distictive sound to be distinguished, and since Ryan is writing alike songs for many many artists…

  • mandalay

    Blech. Techno-enhanced voice singing crap.

  • SpenserJ

Totally agree. Tedder is just way over-rated, and this sounds like generic crap. Which of course means it will be a huge radio hit.

  • http://www.myspace.com/swood1104 Sarah

Love this! She’s gonna have a big hit with this song. I don’t like it quite as much as “No Air”, which I knew the second I heard it would be a monster hit, but this is a good one too. Much much better than both “Tattoo” and “One Step At a TIme” imo. Like pj said, a great catchy pop tune.

Totally agree. Tedder is just way over-rated, and this sounds like generic crap. Which of course means it will be a huge radio hit.

Gasp! That one hit me in the heart, spense! lol. I flove Ryan Tedder and in no way do I think he’s overrated. OneRepublic’s debut album is quite good, actually.

  • erinnthered

The drum track is very distracting. Other than that, it’s certainly catchy. I agree that it has hit potential. She sounds much more Beyonce than Rhianna to me, and I think that might hurt her when it comes to getting station adds.

  • lefty

Now I’ve had a chance to listen, and I REALLY don’t like this song at all. I made it through about 45 seconds before I turned it off.

  • jdanton2

Another amazing song from Jordin . according to her My Space it will be on her Official site as well as itunes tomorrow and then she will perform it on Idol Wednesday.

You wonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t want to miss it! “

  • Hazehel

I don’t know. This song has no redeeming quality at all, just the kind of mindless rubbish that populates that chart nowadays. I am tempted to subotage its chart success by telling people where they can download the song for free, but then I suspect MJ wouldn’t approve. But nevermind, it’s been leaked all over the place, those who want it can find it themselves.

Ryan Tedder will play guitar during Jordin’s Idol performance.

Aw, I’m sorry Sarah. I didn’t mean to catch you in the cross fire! I like the One Republic stuff, I’m just not fond of the crap he keeps cranking out for the Idols. Plus, I’m not a fan of Jordin’s zzzzzz inducing singing, so that might be a factor :)

  • steve2009

smash hit there imho i like it. I think its much better than any of the songs onn the first album if this is anything to go by its gonna be a really good second album imho.

  • sunchick

    Dear Ryan Tedder,

To paraphrase the great poet Axl Rose…I used to love you. Now I have to kill you. I mean, Bleeding Love, Halo, and this latest crap? Why, Ryan why? When did it all go so horribly wrong? Is it fame, success? Did it dull your talent, make you go soft in the head?

By the way, its too late to apologize. Too late. Also, Pat Benetar called. She wants her love is a battlefield motif back.

Hating it (which means it will probably be a stupid hit),

  • AnalogGirl

I love Ryan Tedder, and I think he writes great songs. While his songs/beats sound similar, I think they each have pretty different lyrics and use of vocals. There are a lot of musicians/bands who have a signature sound that you can immediately identify. I think this is a great song for Jordin!! I think it makes great use of her and makes her sound a little more grown up!

  • ettacandy

OK, listen to the chorus of Battlefield and, if you’re familiar with it, sing the CCM worship anthem “Our God is and Awesome God”. It’s really close – a very similar chord progression!

  • Tess

Oh my…..where has all the good music gone? No wonder I never listen to POP 40.

If I didn’t know that was Jordin (and I love her voice) I would have a hard time identifying her. I guess I just miss “singing”. Current music is anything but.
