I’ll get these up earlier next week, I promise. FYI, Rickey.org posts these too. But, of course you want to chat about them here, so, here’s the first in this week’s series of American Idol Extra Clips.

Jason Castro chats with American Idol Extra host, Jillian Reynolds.

Jason pretends he’s going to cut off his dreads. Ha ha, April Fools! After, sings his new song, “Love Uncompromised”.

Check it out after the JUMP…

  • CathyMK

I was very confused when they were talking about cutting off his dreads, LOL. :blink_tb:

Love Jason, love the song, but when am I going to be able to buy it already?!

  • weareallinnocent

Oh man, the talent last year was so deep. Sorry, it just had to be said.

Maybe the kids will come into their own in the coming weeks, but seriously, S7 ruled. I’ll leave room for the possibility that more of my cuppa showed up last season, but then again, my interests vary wildly.

Oh well, that was pretty, Jason. Thanks for posting, MJ! I rarely go to Rickeys so you get it posted when you do, then I enjoy it. End of story! :-)

  • mamaoffour

Each time I hear Jason sing this song it gets better and better. Love it, can’t wait to buy it!

  • justantonio

booo to this shortened version of the song…but still an awesome song even though its been idol sized

  • brie200

I was going to say, the Idols had to cut whatever they were singing to a minute and a half. So yeah. I do have to say I’m tired of the dread questions, but Jillian wasn’t as horrible as I thought she would be, especially since I know Jason isn’t one of her faves.

Jason amazes me in the sense that performance wise he has come such a long way in the past year. He played a show at Texas A&M last weekend to around a crowd of 2000 or so and he is not the same shy guy that stepped onto the Idol stage to play Daydream. It’s kind of cool to watch the transformation.

  • flynnsgirl

I fell in flove all over again seeing Jason. Kid has got to be the most charming person to ever grace the stage on Idol. Jason is what Megan had the chance to be this year, but couldn’t pull it off.
So, when is the album coming out?

  • 4got

Yep, Jason still has the magic for me. Tried very hard to get invested in someone S8 but its not happening.

Can’t wait to download his music.

  • sunchick

Oh man, the talent last year was so deep. Sorry, it just had to be said.

*sniff Season 7 sniff* I was thinking the same thing. Jason’s music isn’t really my personal cuppa but I still enjoy him more than pretty much anyone from Season 8, minus Adam. Nice to see him again.

  • dante

I love Jason!!!! Can’t wait to buy his music.

Even though I am kinda obsessed with Adam Lambert right now, Jason remains in my top 5 Idols ever.

  • http://idolstages.com Connie D.

Very professional. Too short, though. I could listen to about 5 minutes of that song, then replay it.

I was thinking that he should have finished his last year of college before making an album, but I have definitely changed my mind about that.

  • lizland

That was very good, and completely “Jason” to use a Kara D. term. Those singing faces still crack me up LOL

  • Cakenbake

I love Jason’s new song. I think if he appeared on Idol his new song would sell very well.

  • cc1228

Get this boy on Idol singing this song! Listening to all his new stuff from his latest concert, I think his first CD is going to do VERY well. I foresee great things happening for Mr. Castro. I hope all those who ragged on him last year finally wake up and open their eyes. This boy has talent, not to mention the good looks too! :)

  • brie200

I doubt he’s performing, but Jason will be on Idol Tonight next Wednesday with Kim and Justin. I guess he’s making the rounds of Idol shows. Since he already performed for them once, I assume it’s just to chat about next week’s show.

  • bjesgirl

I was actually impressed with that song. I liked that “make you up, dress you down” part. That was nice.

I still feel like he kind of wasted his opportunity. He should’ve tried to get out there like MJ so he would remain in people’s heads. But now, I think most of those girls (and women) have moved on to the next guy.

If he’s lucky, he can sell 100k albums- very impressive in this climate. I think if he would just fire his momager and get some good guidance, he could really be successful as an indie artist.

  • gabam

Thanks for posting, MJ. Loved Jason’s song. I hope that he gets on AI this season.

Jason’s mom is not and never has been his manager. Someone made that up and it spread like wildfire. He has professional management and a lawyer looking out for him. NOT FAMILY RELATED.

Jason gave some great interviews last weekend. If anyone is interested, I can post some of the links. It’s amazing how at ease he is answering questions when they are good questions, not personal ones. I can also post links to his performances from last weekend’s concert if anyone wants me to do so. Most of his fans probably already have them by now so I won’t post them unless requested. (I love the song he sung is Spanish.)

  • CFIdolsfan

I still feel like he kind of wasted his opportunity. He shouldà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve tried to get out there like MJ so he would remain in peopleà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s heads. But now, I think most of those girls (and women) have moved on to the next guy.

Not from the long list of active users at the bottom of his official site they haven’t. I haven’t moved on. He is one of my 5 favorites to date. As far as him finishing college, I saw a recent interview where he said he wants to get his Aggie ring. So I believe finishing college is among his plans. There are several videos of him performing in College Station on 3/28, including this one in Spanish, for his parents and grandmother. Thanks to memilliesme and to rosequeen49 for the translation, which can be found on p. 2 of the comments at the time of my posting.

  • calimari

He’s the only one I ever tossed a vote to, other than Taylor. And he and Brooke are the only ones who’s CD I’d consider buying, other than Taylor. Brooke’s single didn’t wow me, but I love this little snippet. Want to hear more Jason!

  • ordinarygirl09

    God Jason is hot.

and I LOVE his voice. Kinda dumb they shortened his song for the show. They did the same thing with Brookes song when she was on.

    I love him. :)

  • thedingoateyobaby

Jesus but I love this kid. What a fantastic voice, one that I could listen to forever. I have moved on (to Adam) but I have not forgotten Jason and how he made me smile. Im thinking that all my Idol loves make/made me smile. I like that.

I voted my heart out for him but it was clear that by the time he went home, he was more than ready to do so. I will be downloading that tune and thank MJ.

  • gingerly

YAY! Thanks. Jason is so awesome. He and David Cook were my two favorite idols ever…too bad they had to be in the same season.

  • rockvixen

Ugh. :blink_tb: They should have cut Jason’s extensions and used them as a plant holder to decorate the set. The song was ok but then I never was a fan of Jason.

  • LovelyLady

Great! Love the song. Love the guy. Can’t wait for more. Mmmmmm. Can’t get enough of Adam either. Talk about 2 extremes. Variety is the spice of life!

  • brie200

I also can’t get behind the “wasted his opportunity” argument when nobody from his season, minus the two Davids and KLC (all 19 produced) have even gotten their albums into the marketplace yet.

With no offense to MJ because I think he has done a pretty good job keeping himself out there, he’s not really out there in any real mainstream way IMO. I don’t hear about him much and mostly he seems to be performing at Hollywood type events or that sort of thing. Which is great for him and I’m sure it opens doors for him, but it’s not like he’s all over television. Also haven’t the dates for his single and album been repeatedly pushed back? So again, it’s not like he’s even got an official single out there.

I think it’s the nature of the Idol game that people move on quickly. But at the same time I can honestly say that most of the hardcore fans he did have are still as involved as ever and I think the hope is that once the album is out there that those that did like him from Idol will like him enough to pick up the album.

  • http://myspace.com/susanatfox sumidol

That was all kinds of wonderful, I have missed that charming boy so much!

Gabam, I am very interested in your offer!

” I have moved on (to Adam) but I have not forgotten Jason and how he made me smile. Im thinking that all my Idol loves make/made me smile. I like that.”

    Me too Dingo, me too

  • Easy

    I’ll be buying Jason’s album.

He’s got a very raw Jack Johnson feel to his music. I dig it. Hopefully enough people agree to sustain a career.

  • BootStar

LOL, he found out how to get his dreads on the Internet! I don’t know why I find that funny . . . LOVE his boots! :wub_tb:

  • primeminister

I love love love Jason. One of my favorite Idols ever.

  • justantonio

i watched that entire A & M concert he did thats on youtube and it was amazing..i can’t wait for him to tour….I remember when MJ first posted his new songs from his first concert..I only liked a couple of them…now after some work I love all of them…the one i liked the least “shine your light” is one of my favorites now…well the version they did at A & M..hopefully he keeps it like that. …also out of all his songs my fav right now is “i’ll wait for you”

  • brie200

I think it’s also that he’s just more comfortable now and much more at ease on stage. At A&M he was practically rocking out (for him) and he also seemed to be feeding off the energy of the crowd, which also unlike previous concerts, was mostly made up of his peers.

Of the new new ones, I’m really liking the Matter of Time one, which was the second song he performed. The only complaint I’d say is hopefully he’ll be writing some more non love songs because he seems to have a one track mind and it can tend to be overkill.

  • kerfuffle

gabam, I second sumidol‘s request: Links please. :mrgreen_wp: And I’m sure, like me, she’d like everything ya got.

Loving Kris, Adam and Allison (and liking Matt) this season. But I’ll never forget about Jason. :wub_tb:

  • lifeisgood

His version of Crazy that he did at his TAMU concert Saturday was really good – actually all the vids of that concert have shown that he has more power and confidence.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yz0JYolPJ2I

  • http://myspace.com/susanatfox sumidol

    “Loving Kris, Adam and Allison”

Me TOO Kerfuffle, those three are my favorite this year – the A’s could not BE more opposite of Jason but Adam does have his charm

  • lifeisgood

If you go to the movie site and go to the Soundtrack page you can hear a snippet of Hallelujah – his is the 17th track.
It is a more subdued and stripped down version than the version that he does with his band – I like both.

    http://www.laguna-pictures.com/amaramorir/ingles/index1.html

  • kerfuffle

Me TOO Kerfuffle, those three are my favorite this year – the Aà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s could not BE more opposite of Jason but Adam does have his charm

sumidol, you and I seem to always be agreeing on the idols. And true about the differences between the A’s and Jason. I think Kris has some similarities to Jason: no pre-performance pimpage, low key, sweet, mellow, singer/songwriter, plays instuments (including ukulele!), cute as a button, makes “funny” faces when he sings, thought “boring” by many …

  • breakdown

Jason is definitely not forgotten. He also did that performance in one take unlike the others who had to do theirs multiple times.

  • brie200

Not to mention Kris does his own version of OTR, though as much as I do like Kris, I hope he’ll steer clear of doing it on Idol. But I imagine he would since it’s not usually smart to try to recreate other Idol moments, even if Kris has been performing it for a long time. Jason’s version is still too fresh in peoples minds.

Kris actually reminded me of Jason this week when he was doing his sexy face. It looked exactly like when Jason was trying to imitate Cookie’s camera face.

I see that links to songs have already been posted which can be followed to hear Jason’s entire concert. Here is a link to Hallelujah. The audio is good. I love this version:

LOL and thank you very much Gabam!!!

  • seattle_girl

I had just posted the other day about how I was not feeling AI this year. This vid reminds me why ~ there are NO BOOTS this year!!! Sigh. JCas sure wears those boots well. :wub_tb: And cookie pulled them off pretty well too. I’m sure missing the boots.

I like how it seems that Jason is fine tuning his songs, I def like this arrangement better than the one with just one other guitar player. I keep telling myself to be patient about being able to buy new Jason tunes… but it’s hard. I am hoping that he’s using the time to polish everything off so the album does really well.

Thanks for the links Gabam! Off to view now….

  • 4got

Thanks Gabam. That was an evening of Jason. I’ll lap up anything u got …

  • gabam

Well, a fan made mp3s of Jason’s concert. When contacted, Jason gave authorization for the list to be posted for fans who wanted to download the songs from the concert. The first song on the list is not correct. Feel free to skip it. Here’s the link:

None of the videos are close up. The first five rows were reserved for students. Although they were more close-up, the student made videos that I saw were not complete.

  • eveh

Ys I do like it. I was wondreing if I would. I like Jason and I can’t wait to hear the CD. Darling little ditz. I think he may be my fav contestant of all time. Not singer, person. Love his personality but he can sing too, so it is all good.

  • awilliams

    Thanks for those links gabam.
It’s good to see Jason getting out there and honing his craft now. He’s off to a solid start.

Jason is much more articulate than he was given credit for last year. He does seem to be coming into his own and he’s right to take the musical path now while the iron is hot. He can go back and finish school in time.

I was very impressed listening to his “I am Second” video. Regardless of anyone’s faith, lack of it, or questioning of it – ya have to admit this is a very thoughtful and deep young man. Not many fellas his age are public about their spiritual life, if they even have one.

  • Grammie Kari

The moment I laid eyes on Jason Castro, I felt the charisma. As time is passing, he is devloping confidence. Although, I am supporting Anoop this season, I will forever remember those special moments Jason had on AI. I cannot wait to purchase his CD.

  • Barbariba

Jason is one of a kind.

  • oceana

I’ll definitely be buying Jason’s cd. I love his voice and personality.
