I’ve got the complete 2008 year-end Billboard chart for you HERE.   I posted a bunch of charts last week, but overlooked the all-important digital charts:

Hot Digital Songs
8. “No Air” – Jordin Sparks w/Chris Brown
34. “Tattoo” – Jordin Sparks
57. “Crush” – David Archuleta
65. “Time of My Life” – David Cook
71. “One Step at a Time” – Jordin Sparks

Hot Digital Artists
10. Jordin Sparks (3)
28. David Cook (15)
37. Carrie Underwood (6)
45. David Archuleta (5)

There are fewer Idol #1′s this year than last, when Daughtry and Carrie Underwood dominated the 2007 chart.   This year, Daughtry snagged #1 on the Hot Adult Top 40 Artists chart and Carrie Underwood the Top Country Songs Artist.   Carrie landed #2 spots behind the new country princess, Taylor Swift on Top Country Artists, Top Country Artists Female, Top Country Albums, and Top Country Albums – Artists.

Idol winner, Jordin Sparks, is the #2 New Artist (behind her “No Air” partner, Chris Brown) and “No Air” landed the #6 spot on the Hot 100 Songs, #9 on the Hot 100 Artists, and #9 on Hot 100 Artists.   Three of her songs appear on Hot Mainstream Top 40 Songs–”No Air” at #7, “Tattoo” at #22 and “One Step at a Time” at #27.   She’s #4 on the Hot Mainstream Top 40 Artists chart, and #8 on Top Pop Artists, and #6 on Top Pop Artists Female.

The new kids, David Cook and David Archuleta make an appearance.   They’re #8 and #10, respectively, on Top New Pop Artists. And their singles–Cook’s “Time of My Life” and Archuleta’s “Crush”–make a respectable showing on quite a few of the pop charts.   I expect both to make a splash in 2009.

Idols figured on a couple of the year-end tour charts.   Congrats to Carrie Underwood for having the #5 country tour of the year. The American Idols Live tour came in at #24 overall:

Top 5 Tours – Country 2008
5. Carrie Underwood – Gross – 21,560,403, Attendance – 488,346, Capacity – 461,051

Top Tours – 2008
24. American Idols Live – Gross – 29,906,507, Attendance – 493,296, Capacity – 579,548

These are just some highlights. Make sure to check out the entire chart.

MJ, thank you so much for this. I cannot believe how well the Davids did considering they just launched their careers in May. All those placements and having charted already? Can you imagine how long that list will look next year? Great job!

It’s also nice to see Jordin Sparks do so well. She started slow, but good for her.

And Carrie Underwood is the undisputed queen of Country.

Thanks, MJ. That must have been a ton of work.

Thanks MJ, for this and all your hard work. I’m sure it’s a labor of love, but I know it can be labor intensive to pull research and then put it in a reader-friendly form.

Congratulations to both Davids, and to all the Idols who’ve done so well on the charts. Former AI winners and runners-up have continued to dominate the Top40 and HAC charts. Reports of the death of “our favorite cheesy show” have been grossly overstated!

It still amazes me how well Carrie has done. I mean I was a fan of hers from day 1, but even I knew she need a lot of work in the area of live performing and stage presence. I don’t think anyone could’ve predicted just how well she would do, well except maybe Simon – LOL!

Thank you MJ for the chart list.

Congratulations to all the Idols on the list,

And an extra special round of applause for both of the David’s, for being highly successful brand new artists. :clap_tb:

Thank you, MJ, for all the work that went into compiling this chart. It’s amazing to see Some Heart at #89 on the Top 200 Albums chart and great to see 6 seasons out of 7 represented on the charts. I think the last category should be Japan Top 100 Albums.

I think the last category should be Japan Top 100 Albums.

I also fixed the headings…I used last years chart as a template and missed changing a few to 2008.
