Clint Eastwood Opener Taylor Hicks: RNC Speech ‘Was Entertaining’ – “I think it’s important to be involved in the political process,” Hicks tells The Hollywood Reporter. “I definitely put a lot of thought into it. But being asked to take part as a performer, it’s one of those gigs where if you want to be a part of history, then you go for it.” Of course, little did Hicks know that the booking he secured two weeks ago (he performed the Doobie Brothers’ “Takin’ It To the Streets”) would be the preamble for the convention’s scene stealing moment: Clint Eastwood’s speech. “I never thought I would open up for Dirty Harry,” says Hicks. – Read more at The Hollywood Reporter

Britney Spears If She Can Do ‘X Factor’ … She Can Testify – If Britney Spears can pull in $15 million to judge “X Factor” … she sure as hell is competent enough to testify in court . . . this according to her self-proclaimed ex-manager Sam Lutfi. If you recall … Lutfi filed a massive lawsuit against the Spears family in 2009 — suing for a whole mess of things, including defamation and unpaid management fees. For the record, Britney has denied Lutfi ever managed her. Now, Lutfi wants Britney’s testimony — filing papers in L.A. County Superior Court yesterday, asking a judge to order Britney’s conservators to make her available as a witness in the case. – Read more at TMZ

Here’s another jazzy one that was just uploaded. The sound not quite as clear as the Dry Spell vid–but watch Casey go nuts on the upright bass. Awesome! I believe it’s this one that closed the show.

HA.. looks like Adam’s next single is “Trespassing”. A radio DJ accidentally twitted that next single coming to radio is Trespassing and then deleted it. I guess he didn’t realize that he’s not suppose to leak it yet. OOPPSS..

Carrie played the Opry tonight, and you could really tell she’s gearing up for her tour which starts in less than 2 weeks (on 9/14) :) There was a fresh arrangement of Blown Away which I thought worked great, and she played Wine After Whiskey for the 3rd time in public (1st time was acoustic at the fan club party, 2nd time was at a UK industry showcase).
At the Opry tonight Carrie mentioned Wine After Whiskey is 1 of her favorites from Blown Away which made me happy. She sounded glorious singing it. Here’s Carrie’s full set list from tonight:

    Cowboy Casanova
    Wine After Whiskey
    Wasted
    Blown Away

Carrie mentioned this week that she and the band have been in music rehearsals for the tour all week. Production rehearsals will start next week as per her interviews from the Good Girl #1 party. She seems really excited about what they’ve got in store visually to tell the stories of the songs along with her voice.

Well, he really looks to be blind, not just a Roy Orbison’s type. But that’s just what I think.

merkureye, I think Mandisa has a successful career.  I think Pia may surprise some with a successful career.

I love this version. This makes me feel so much better about Casey and his direction. If he jazzed up all his songs from his album this much, I would certainly pay to see him (and I may have been more interested in buying his album). I find it interesting he is giving the live versions of these songs a better representation of the sound I expected from him. Curious if he jazzed up more.

I find it particularly interesting that I felt the same about James and some of his songs on his album. Many of his songs teetered a little too close to the pop boundary when hearing the produced studio version but he gave these songs a harder edge I much preferred performed live.

It’s as though the production crew took away a portion of their musical identity somewhat.

Glad to see Kris will be performing at KIIS-FM’s pre-VMA party. Hopefully he will take advantage of being in town and go to the VMAs, walk the red carpet and get a little press exposure.

Yeah–he is jazzing a lot of them up. The musicians he is working with on this tour–all have jazz backgrounds. Even the pop fluff Get Out is being jazzed up somewhat. Live version–so much better

Other songs like Ghosts and GBM–are really more folk-and he’s leaving them that way–with a hint of jazz

I love jazz. But, also love good folk/rock stuff too. So for me, his music is right up my alley.

I guess when these kids get signed to a label–they don’t have the freedom to do everything they want. Casey said that he had to learn to write a different way for the album–more simple time signatures etc. Even though Concord  is a jazz label–they probably wanted a more poppy cd from an idol contestant. I remember him venting on fb a little bit about it. And he is not one to do that kind of thing—so he was clearly upset about something.

I really am loving these live performances. It not easy to play the upright bass and be the lead singer. It’s not like ur just strumming a guitar. I hope one day I can see him live. So far, no dates near me. But, if he comes to your area–maybe give it a whirl. Hearing that Casey and the band are amazing. Plus, nobody can say that he doesn’t have any personality or stage presence. At, least it would surprise me if the did–LOL

I hope Pia will be successful, but I think she’s going to have to become more non-generic first.  It’s important to be as good as other singers, but maybe more important to stand out by being different from them.

  • elliegrll

Hopefully he’ll do some networking.  It will be interesting to see if this goes along with the first part of Lindsey Parker’s interview.  It’s hard to fathom that  an event that includes Mark Ballas and Grayson chance is going to get a lot of media attention.  It’s weird that KIIS didn’t book artists that are representative of the music that they play.

I am loving the videos of Casey’s live performances too. He has a great band. I am really hoping that Casey plays in more jazz festivals next year. They are so popular now. I hope that he performs in one near me.
