David Cook to newcomers: ‘Get used to rejection’ – “Recently, a reporter made a comment about how much happier I seemed since the last time he talked to me (before my Manila visit in 2009),” David Cook shared with his adoring crowd –composed of writers and admirers – at Edsa Shangri-La last weekend, one day before his show at the Big Dome. “At the time, I came here a few weeks after my brother died – so, I purposely held my grief at bay, because I didn’t want to disappoint my fans!” The winner of “American Idol, Season 7” may have chosen to shun the trappings of celebrity, but its stellar sheen has no doubt rubbed off on David. – Read more at Inquirer.net

EXCLUSIVE: Interview with Casey James – Casey James is one hard working man. I met him for the first time back on my birthday in February at a lunch put together by the Sony Music Nashville Digital team, but we never had the chance to sit down and chat until now. In our exclusive interview with Casey we ask him some of his fans most asked questions: on the music video for “Crying On A Suitcase,” what it was like finally releasing his album, and if country music was always the genre he wanted to be in. He’s come a long way in just a few short years, and it was time to introduce our fans to one of the more talented artists on radio right now. – Read more at Keepin It Country

Jennifer Hudson & Megan Hilty: ‘Smash’ Season Two! – Jennifer Hudson, Megan Hilty, and Debra Messing get to work on the second season of Smash on Thursday (July 19) in New York City’s Gramercy Park. The second season of the NBC musical drama is expected to air mid-season. Jennifer will be guest-starring on multiple episodes! – Read more at Just Jared

Mary Murphy on ‘SYTYCD’: The first cut of the season – Mary Murphy is blogging for EW.com this season of So You Think You Can Dance! The first cut is always the hardest, but as you know we have to whittle our way down to only two champions this season. It would be great if everyone could stay, but even though we are enjoying great artists, this is a competition. I found it interesting who did not receive enough votes to stay out of danger, but let’s talk about some of the numbers first. – Read more at Entertainment Weekly

I bet security didn’t like that. Adam needs to be careful about going into crowds, you never know what kind of nutcase is lurking.

Thanks for finding all these James treats, justmefornow – it’s a nice way to spend a Sunday morning. ;) Great quality, and James sounds awesome.

I never tought I could dig the blonde so much, but Ty should go back to his natural colour.

I love how he is still showing his flexability in “Love in Ruins” – and from the crowd reaction I don’t seem to be the only one. LOL.

And great news about “Crawling Home”, always loved that song.

Thanks for the video-link, Lexie. Great-quality compilation. I have been watching the complete set. :)

I am not a huge Scotty-Fan, but I liked him well enough on the show – bought his album more on a whim, when I bought Lauren’s and thought, it’s hardly worth to pay postage for just 1 CD from the US to Europe, and have looked at bits and pieces here and there, but haven’t really followed him in his after-AI steps) – so it’s nice to see that he has really matured in his performances: he is more engaged with the songs/lyrics/audience without having lost his cool relaxed “Scotty-vibe”. Great job!

Adam’s fans are anything but a “big problem” LOL. There hasn’t been another “episode” that anyone can point to regarding fans being “OTT” for as long as I can remember until yesterday.

Even after the Sacramento radio station was Twitter whining yesterday (about the “Adam is sick” comment), and stalking fans’ twitter accounts for mentions it was only a couple of hours before they Tweeted “GLAMBERTS! Get us to 10K followers and we’ll give you an exclusive great interview”. And it happened.

AI wants fans to get invested during the season and just because Nigel can’t decide if his Twitter account is “business” or “personal” one day is nothing. Who cares? Fox is the decider anyway, not Nigel.

AI and FOX would only PRAY that ALL OF THESE IDOLS had dedicated fan bases like Lambert. They might have more than TWO stars staying in the public eye with good sales for years if they did.

Both shows Lambert did this week were big successes ticket sales wise. I hardly think his management and the venues are worried about Nigel’s little Twitter account issues!

Nigel is and has always been a shit stirrer.  I sincerely doubt he was bothered.  In fact, I would bet my house that he was just looking to stir both sides up just for the attention.

It’s just imho. I find it a huge turn-off. Enough so that it turned me off to Lambert. I can only speak for myself but I know I’m not alone in this. He has become just a big eyeroll for me ~ and I was once a fan. Too bad cuz he can sing. His followers on the web and twitter just completely turned me off to him. That and the direction of his music as well as the jackets. God, lose the ugly jackets Lambert – lol!
ETA: I guess I am one of the 125,000 people that bought his first CD as a presale and did not contribute to his first-week sales of Trespassing, and will not be contributing to any of Trespassing’s sales. He can thank his OTT fans on twitter and the web for that.

For myself, I could never let the behavior of one person color my opinion of another.  A lot of artists (Tv shows, movies, hobbies etc.) have unsavory, and vocal fans.  I can’t imagine who I’d be able to listen to, watch, or what I could participate in if I let an annoying vocal minority control my opinion.  Hell, if I did, there’d go half my past times. lol

That  is good. Just didn’t care for what I was reading and seeing and it colored my perception. It happens.

Yeesh. I guess I”m lucky that I have never paid the least bit of attention to Adam’s fanbase. I wouldn’t even know they existed if I didn’t read about it here. I’d hate to get turned off from somebody’s music because a bunch of people who really have nothing to do with that person act like (or are, I guess) lunatics. Glad I didn’t miss his new album on their account.

I guess with the whole “fan-means-fanatic” thing, the best thing to do is to stay away from anywhere these people congregate.

You’ve said things like this before and I see where you are coming from, but I have to disagree with you. In my opinion Kris did okay keeping his name out there. Many of the things he did were a waste of time however, such as those internet interviews etc. He did at times however appear on red carpets, was photographed out with Katy (and photographed shirtless!) and did some charitable events that got noticed. If he had done more of that the end result would have been the same. He needed radio to play his music and they aren’t.

I’m late on this, but of course the most important thing is airplay, and I agree that Kris could have gotten more promo for the second album, but without the airplay the results would have been the same, because his fanbase and the number of people who are aware of him and his music are just not that big.

That being said, I do think that it’s really important for him to keep promoting his name and music right now, and keep making connections with those in the industry, radio people and the general public.  Fading from public view isn’t going to help him.  Going back to promo for the second album, going about it the way that they did, and starting the promo just a few months before the album was released wasn’t going to help Kris, because of how low his profile is, but maybe he would have been better served with radio, the media, and with more people knowing that he exists if he and his management addressed his issues last year.

It’s not just about walking on red carpets, or doing charity events that nobody knows about.  It shouldn’t have come as a shock that he was going to have a problem getting airplay or that his fanbase is so small, so something should have been done to find a way to re-introduce him to radio people.

I’m not sure what the answer is for Kris, but I agree it’s imperative that he keep promoting himself and his music. I would love to see him do a college tour with interviews at the school radio stations. I know he’s getting some play at some of them. I know My Weakness is on the playlists of Hollister and Old Navy which is geared toward that demographic.
As far as radio I believe that Fresh in the Park and the Red Sox gigs are sponsored by radio stations. He is going to have a tough time of it though. I hope Kris and 19 have some ideas but I’m not optimistic.

I hope all these positive reviews for Taylor Hicks will lead to more jobs and a hit album.  He is a hard worker and deserves the success!
