Randy’s tenure on the judging panel is perennially at risk. For years, he has been the oldest and least appreciated judge on the panel. Dude tries. He tries desperately to become relevant, to be respected, to set a trend. The result? His fashion sense has been mocked. His home-made craft-bead pins have failed to impress. His alarm clock sized wristwatches were met with derision.
He’s tried, but he can’t be the “New Simon”, the “New Paula” or the “Elder Statesman” on the judging panel. He can’t be hip like Steven, stunning like J-Lo, funny like Ellen or even as annoying as Kara. His attempts at name-dropping fall hopelessly flat.
What does that leave him with? His catch-phrases.
For years, he trotted out “Dawg!”, but was forced to drop that when it was turned against him as a tool to make fun of him (usually accompanied with an eye-roll). Since then, he has desperately attempted to coin a new catch phrase. “What?”, “Just 17!”, “You Sang Your Face-off Dude”, “You Can Sing the Phone Book”. But none have really caught on. I can’t even remember the quip he tried to get started this year, can you (I know he tried, but it was so inane, I have erased it from my memory banks)?
So, with Randy’s job hanging more precariously in the balance than ever (even he doesn’t sound sure about it), let’s try to help out Idol’s longest-serving judge. Surely, the collective mind of MJ’s Blog can come up with something more erudite than “For me, for you, for me”.
Please post your best, worst, funniest ideas for “Randy’s New Catchphrase”. Don’t be afraid to say something idiotic (Randy isn’t). Don’t be worried about it making sense (when have they ever?). And least of all, don’t concern yourself about being trite (how can you possibly get more trite than “In it to win it”? – poor Randy was obviously scraping the bottom of the barrel at that point). Even if you truly do not appreciate Randy, surely you want him to keep his job so that he stops creating land-fill items like those darn watches. You could be saving the planet!
