The open casting call was held Monday at St. Andrews Hall and drew thousands of performers – many before dawn who happily braved the erratic weather. Those lucky enough to get a callback were scheduled to audition Tuesday at the Fillmore Detroit. – Read more MLive

Man Arrested For Crashing Adele’s Grammy Win – On Sunday night, one man attempted to ruin Adele’s Grammy win by bogarting her acceptance speech, but Jennifer Lopez wasn’t going to let that happen. Does this awards-show crasher look familiar? His name is Vitalli Sediuk and he also made headlines when he attempted to kiss Will Smith at a Men In Black 3 premiere in Moscow, Russia. The Ukrainian TV host managed to make it all the way to the Grammy stage and even said a few words before J.Lo took action.Man Arrested For Crashing Adele’s Grammy Win – Needless to say Sediuk was ushered off by Grammy security and spent a night in jail, multiple news outlets are reporting. He has since been released and faces a court hearing on March 4 for trespassing charges.

‘Survivor: Caramoan’: Returning Favorite Erik on why this season is ‘like the Island of Misfit Toys’ – Erik is one of the more intriguing returning players to come back for Survivor: Caramoan (premiering Feb. 13 on CBS). He was a Fan in the original Fans vs. Favorites, and is now making the jump to the Favorites tribe. Although it is easy to discount Erik’s chances due to his previous naïveté, the guy is physical enough to do well in challenges, and likable enough to want to keep around. The question then becomes: Has he learned enough of the strategic game to make it all the way to the end? I spoke with Erik just days before filming began on his latest adventure. But first, I had to convince him to talk to me. – Read more at Entertainment Weekly

Kelly looks so good, and so healthy!

Scientific studies suggest that fat healthy people who dieted are actually more likely to die than those who don’t diet.  So as long as they are healthy, they shouldn’t diet. Dieting is bad for your health if you don’t have an illness associated with obesity.

I don’t get this new trend to dissect singers and actors physiques. Do they not think these people have physicians? I don’t remember news people tearing Aretha Franklin or Luther Vandross to pieces back in the day.

This should not be fodder for a news talk show! Discuss their talent – let them take care of their weight and whatever related medical issues arise as a result of it.

  • bridgette12

Adele is fat, overweight, pleasantly plump, a little thick or whatever politically correct term you want to use. She needs to lose weight and I don’t think pretending that it’s okay or ignoring it is a good idea or healthy for her in the long run.

I think the 24-hour news of today (both hard news & celebrity news) lends itself to over-reporting every aspect of people/events. They literally have to invent stories to fill the time. But I agree with you & feel much of it is unnecessary & mean-spirited.

  • Bentley1530

The fox news story is strange in the sense that I am sure they told her which
viewpoint they were looking for (which is what they usually do) and then they

  • Tinawina

She needs to lose weight and I don’t think pretending that it’s okay or
ignoring it is a good idea or healthy for her in the long run.

I don’t think pretending its our business is healthy for *society* in the long run. And I don’t think that’s politically correct to say, whatever than means.

If anything needs to end, it’s the “bad role model” or “its for her own good” excuse for picking over female celebrities. We absolutely do not do this to male entertainers. This is not about health IMO, it’s about not wanting to look at anything but an “attractive” female body, and by doing it we send the message what a woman looks like is much, much more important that the substance of what a woman does. All those chunky guys singing Sunday night are not dealing with this, and no one is talking about what they wore for that matter.

  • jpfan2

Overall unless one is obese, it is not true that plump folks are more unhealthy than very skinny folk. In fact, as they age the very skinny ones have a shorter life span.

Anyway neither Kelly or Adele are in the Chris Christie heavyweight class.  I don’t think either one gives a crap what people think of their weight. ;0

  • Pippygirl

Adele is fat, overweight, pleasantly plump, a little thick or
whatever politically correct term you want to use. She needs to lose
weight and I don’t think pretending that it’s okay or ignoring it is a
good idea or healthy for her in the long run.

Adele is very aware of how much she weighs-I’m sure she doesn’t need anyone to tell her about her own body. She’s also an adult and can and will make her own decisions about what, if anything, she wants to do about it.
I found it interesting that NJ Governor Christie’s weight has become a topic of conversation in the media because usually no one cares if a man is overweight.
My feeling is if Adele’s weight bothers someone they should just listen to her and not look at her. Same as I feel if Governor Christie’s weight bothers someone they should just not vote for him.

Cass Elliott–best singer in the Mamas and Papas.  I’m glad her weight didn’t keep her from performing.  Adele has a beautiful voice and I’m sure a lot of artists would love it if their albums did as well as her last one.  I won’t criticize her size, but I will say that the outfit she was wearing was not flattering.

Adele “needs” to do whatever she feels is best for herself.

BTW, I’m not “pretending” when I say that Adele’s weight is her business and her choice. I firmly believe it.

  • Leandro

    They don’t NEED to lose weight. It’s their own problem (or not a problem, whatever). But if they did it with proper diet and exercises there would be thousands of benefits to their health and even to their live performances. The same for men. CAN’T deny that;

  • Trina

I firmly believe losing weight is ones business especially considering how hard it is to lose weight the right way.  If youre comfortable with how you look thats your prerogative and right, but being overweight – especially being obese DOES increase your chance for issues like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes and heart disease.  Speak to any doctor and they will tell you that, there’s tons of reading out there on the subject.  You can certainly get those diseases as well as any other sickness even if youre a size 2 but the more you weigh, the greater chance for risk.

  • Eilonwy

But if they lost weight with proper diet and exercises there would be many benefits to their health and even to their live performances.

That’s a medical conclusion only their doctors are qualified to reach.

From proximity to looks-conscious Scottsdale, I’ve learned that “helpful” strangers will feel called upon to mention the “health benefits” of losing weight to women who slip above a 19 BMI. It’s annoying as hell in the grocery store, and I can’t imagine the indignity of being an award-winner in some field, yet having weight be the focus of discussion.

  • bridgette12

Adele can do anything she want and if she wants to keep on gaining weight that’s up to her. Like you said it’s her business and since we have freedom of speech in this country, I have the right to state my opinion of her appearance. If she or anyone don’t like it, they can say so.

  • certain1

Danny is fulfilling his dreams one by one. Good for him!

  • Leandro

“That’s a medical conclusion only their doctors are qualified to reach.”

Yep, only their doctors are qualified to say, as Trina said above, that being obese increase your chance for issues like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes and heart disease. lol

“yet having weight be the focus of discussion.”

ITA. Actually, like I said, I couldn’t care less for Kelly’s and Adele’s weight. I just thought ridiculous pretending that being obese is good for your health.

  • http://MJO judes

    I agree with you jpfan.
Adele has had a baby in the past year .Some have the weight fall off them after pregnancy & some blossom & put on weight -obviously Adele is the latter . I will say the dress she wore was not flattering but that’s a different story.  Both Adele & Kelly seem to be  happy in their relationships & life in general & that is the most important thing.
There is so much conflicitng information for women in the media- about obesity & unhealthy eating .My daughter went through a very scary stage a few years ago when she was obsessed with eating healthily & exercising obsessively -that she lost so much weight. We took her to a dietician who had a really good attitude to food & said to my daughter to enjoy eating & eat things in moderation. My daughter has been a healthy weight ever since.
Ironically  Kelly & Adele have  2 of the best voices at the moment- is it a bit of jealousy from some that they have done so well without being obsessed by being thin?

  • Hazehel

I just thought ridiculous pretending that being obese is good for your health.

And you’d be wrong.  Scientific opinion is changing in recent years because studies have found people who dieted are more likely die early than those who don’t.  The only people who benefit from dieting are those who are obese AND have associated ill-health.  Those who are obese but otherwise healthy don’t benefit from dieting at all.  Don’t go on a diet if you are of normal weight, or slightly overweight, or even obese if you are healthy.

  • bridgette12

It is ridiculous to pretend being obese is a good thing. It’s not and Kelly probably lost weight because it was the healthy thing to do and wanted to look and feel better. There’s no shame in recognizing a problem and going through the steps to fix it.

  • Hazehel

It is ridiculous to pretend being obese is a good thing

Go read some scientific papers, for example here –

Dieting is bad for you.  Only diet if you are obese AND have associated ill-health, don’t diet whatever your size if you are healthy.

  • Listening

So umm I see Melanie Amaro doesn’t have an accent anymore interesting… though I did notice a bit creeping out when she talked about her grandmother which I found odd. Hmmm maybe she just finally lost it but it just felt put upon to me during the show.

Not trying to be mean b/c wouldn’t that be ironic it’s just something that bugged me.

I’m curious how her album does but I suspect b/c of the lengthy delay and the material it will bomb. They really messed that one up girl w/ great voice and they couldn’t make it work. Looks like they learned from her though and are getting season 2 winner’s material out sooner.

  • Eilonwy

Yep, only their doctors are qualified to say, as Trina said above, that being obese increase your chance for issues like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes and heart disease.

Y’know, when I’m at the “barely socially acceptable” weight for my height (150 lbs, 6’1″), I have all sorts of health problems that I don’t have at 160. So yeah, only the doctor can know the risks to the individual. This doesn’t stop “helpful” store clerks from scolding me for buying food they disapprove. (Ironically, they’re often heavier than I, but they’re over 50 and I’m not — it’s young women’s bodies that are public property in our society.)

“Acceptable” body size has slid downward over the years, to the point that a normal healthy weight like Clarkson’s gets treated as if it’s morbid obesity.

  • potatorocks

I understand as a country we need to tackle our weight problem.  It is a general conversation we should have.   But taking on individuals who are not our immediate family members  is not  right.

  • Leandro

I don’t think it’s even a matter of ” going through the steps to fix it”. It’s not like Adele and Kelly are on heavy drugs and they need seriously family intervention. They are ok.

Sometimes I do things that I know aren’t the best for my health, but I don’t pretend I don’t know it, searching obscure articles on the internet to justify my behaviours. I simply do it.

  • cherelann

Weight is a complex issue & we do not have cookie cutter nutritional needs.  If I were to suggest anything to Adele it would be to find a new stylist pronto.

Remember, the camera adds 20 lbs…Kelly & Adele have great personalities & beautiful voices & I choose to focus on these qualities.

  • bridgette12

When I talk about steps to fix it, I’m talking about the things that Kelly and others overweight have done to lose weight, portion control, exercising more, changing what they eat, not eating after a certain time in the evening.

  • girlygirltoo

As far as I can see, neither Adele nor Kelly are obese. They may be 10 pounds or so over what doctors would say is the ideal weight for someone their height. But that isn’t anything close to being obese.

I don’t know why there is such an obsession about what female celebs (or females in general) look like. Not everyone is going to be a size 0, 2 or 4. In fact, the average woman is probably closer to a size 10. It’s one thing if someone is seriously overweight as that can other health issues such as high blood pressure. But it’s just as dangerous to your health to be stick thin as it is to be obese. But being a few pounds over your ideal weight is unlikely to cause any real serious health issues.

I don’t see people screaming about male celebs who are a few pounds overweight. Why is some male musician or actor allowed to be heavy but a female is not? Doesn’t anybody care about these men’s health?

Most people’s weight fluctuates — it isn’t something unique to Kelly or Adele or any other celebrity. For example, I know I tend to gain and lose the same 5 pounds several times a year.

I’m sure they have doctors who would be quick to talk to them if their weight posed a real health risk.

  • DragonFly

Just speaking ” the camera adds 20 lbs”–

Watching late night shows as each female guest (just for ex.) comes on (usually w/a typical black SLIMMING dress on/sick of that too)–the absolutely starving, snap-em-like-a-cheap-toothpick look is going a bit too far also these days–that skinny isn’t attractive either.  Some of these celebs who delivered a baby just weeks earlier?? looking like a blade of grass blowing in the wind is unreal AND all of that with “the camera adding 20 lbs?”  Normal dieting, I doubt it.  Too many preachers.  There are celebs that we know didn’t do it by “just suddenly learning to eat properly” (cough-blsht).  Many times too skinny isn’t pretty these days either.  The way Adele & Kelly are being applauded from their piers at these events–it appears they are well-liked & admired for who they are & their talent.  There are celebs m/f who struggle a lifetime keeping lbs. off just like everyday peeps.  Who cares?–let them handle it.

  • standtotheright

If Adele is a nursing (or formula-feeding) mother, then she is getting regular medical care for herself and her son. That medical team is the only agent who can make a determination of what is best for her and for her child, and using some stranger’s timetable to make health-related decisions would be outright irresponsible parenting. Period.

  • springboard2

Adele is very likely medically obese, and it is very likely that she is advised to loose weight, nursing or not.
Losing weight  doesn’t need to be associated with starving yourself, and does  not have to be abrupt and excessive. An ongoing healty diet and exercise goes a long way.

Curvy Women: Hollywood’s Hot Trend That Might Last:

I love this quote from Lena Dunham:

“I don’t think a girl with tiny thighs would have received such no-pants attention,” Dunham said at a New Yorker Festival appearance, according to the New York Post. “I think what it really was …’Why did you all make us look at your thighs?’ My response is, get used to it because I am going to live to be 100, and I am going to show my thighs every day till I die.”

  • Anny_nanny

Congratulate to Adele and Kelly, I am glad that Kelly has one problem only and this does not lips sync at the show or scandals in her personal life. If you spit in the back, you are ahead of everyone.

I propose to discuss sexual problems ladies of the video. (Don’t see anything wrong!) I’m afraid to imagine a person who likes the skull covered with skin instead of a face.

No, I do not believe that a man should be thick, but I’m not a personal doctor and not a close person. And I do not think for themselves correct to tell someone how she should live.

  • Bug Menot

“I don’t see people screaming about male celebs who are a few pounds overweight.”

I don’t see girls screaming over them either.

  • SullyD

Am I the only one who doesn’t think Kelly is overweight (anymore)? She looked ok/nice on the Grammys.
I’m not saying that it would matter on way or another, just cheap chatting lol.

  • standtotheright

Adele is very likely medically obese, and it is very likely that she is advised to loose weight, nursing or not.

Pregnant/nursing mothers actually are given different advice on weight, diet, and exercise than the average person.  Again, that’s between her, her primary care doctor, and her pediatrician.

  • DragonFly

“I don’t see people screaming about male celebs who are a few pounds overweight.”I don’t see girls screaming over them either.
For that, (m or f) they know how they need to look……… & good plastic surgery for the rest of their lives to keep them screaming lol.  For that goal a monitored diet/workout a must.  Actor, dancer, stage/screen “entertainer” will probably need to keep it respectful.  To say anyone enjoys carrying extra lbs. around is likely not the case–the exaggerated health scare for avg/to just chunky vs. thin—people don’t seem to be buying it.  To be real many who want people to scream for them, it ain’t going to happen w/just a correct weight.

  • springboard2

Yes, and it is likely that she is told that she is overweight, but it may not affect her health at present because she is still very young.

  • IrisandLilies

I was going to say that what Adele really needs to do is quit smoking, but then I googled her and learned that she has already quit, so good for her.

As for Adele’s weight, yes she is overweight, but probably not as much as everyone thinks.  Adele looks to be big-boned and to have a large frame.  Even if she were to lose a lot of weight, she probably would never look as tiny as many of the Hollywood starlets.

  • IrisandLilies

I’ve been wondering when the Gone Gone Gone video would debut ever since Phillip tweeted that he had seen it.  Can’t wait.

Phillip is very funny in his interviews.  This one was especially good.  His response when asked whether he would take Taylor Swift “Home” or send her to the other “Side of the Moon” was priceless.  I also laughed when he told the interviewer that it was “creepy” that she had researched him.

  • DaisyMagnolia

Not to mention that Adele is tall. She’s 5’9″.  Combine that with a larger frame, and Adele isn’t going to be stick thin.

I agree that she should stop smoking.  That’s more of an issue than carrying an extra 20 pounds.

  • Tinawina

I don’t think what Hahzel is saying and what you are saying is at odds. Research shows that an overweight person who is otherwise healthy should not diet, but that does not mean they shouldn’t lose weight, they just need to exercise more and eat healthier as opposed to doing the Atkins Plan or something like that. But the change can be gradual, its not an emergency situation because the person is healthy.

Also, I agree that being 10-20 lbs over one’s ideal weight is not a big deal. Kelly Clarkson is not really large as far as I’m concerned. It’s that we’ve been trained to see anything bigger than a size 0 as some kind of abomination. I mean people even complained about the size of Beyonce’s thighs at the Superbowl! LOL. If folks think that chick is fat, there is something collectively wrong with our concept of women’s bodies as a country I think.

  • Kirsten

LOL at JLo acting the bouncer. Way to control the Kayne’s out there. A fierce attitude is sometimes all it takes. What was security doing?

  • Tommyo2000

Well.. eating a proper diet and regular excercise does tend to help a person to maintain a good weight … all of which helps to lower triglycerides, LDL, raise HDL, lower blood pressure, and blood sugar levels … these things can be maintained with medications, but that can run several hundred dollars a month, which raises overall health costs for everyone … In many individuals simple life style changes can avoid all this …

  • Hazehel

Research shows that an overweight person who is otherwise healthy should not diet, but that does not mean they shouldn’t lose weight,

But the research do say weight loss.  Of course there are subtleties, for example, obese men (but not women) who lose weight by 5-15% are less likely to die from cardiovascular diseases,  but those (men or women) who lose weight by 15% or more are more likely to die through all causes.   So if you are a women of 160 lb and you lost 24 lb, you will die earlier than those who lost less than 8 lb (even losing more than 8 lb might be bad for a women).  Note however we are just taking a about averages and not about a specific person, since every individual would be slightly different. What’s true when talking about a broad survey may not be true for a particular person.

Evidence suggests that big loss of weight is bad for you.  People don’t realize that when they dieted, they lose not only fat cells, but other body mass that might be beneficial.   People also don’t realize that there are different kinds of fat cells – the bad ones are those found around the waist, not those lying just under the skin.  If you think you can get rid of the bad cells by liposuction, then you’d be wrong, because liposuction only removes the fat cells under the skin, not those bad ones found around the intestines or other organs (which I would assume are dangerous to remove by liposuction).

The people who fare the best are those who maintain their weight throughout their adult life reasonably steady.  Women who are slightly overweight also appear to do very well, meaning that if you are slightly overweight, you shouldn’t try to diet and lose weight at all, it could be more damaging to your health.  So people should try to avoid putting on weight, but if they are overweight, they should try to maintain their weight as it is.  I’m sure losing a few pounds over a long time is perfectly fine, but losing a lot of weight over a short period is  definitely not good if you are a healthy person.

Adele and Kelly would be considered overweight I think, not obese.  They just need to eat sensibly and well, exercise often, keep an eye on their health, and they’d do just fine (and very likely do better than those underweight stick insects in fashion magazines).

Wow thank Hazhel, that is great infomation! I appreciate the clarification.

That jibes pretty well with what I remember being told by a nutritionist at my college who was speaking in class. She said if you have good eating habits that you stick to 80% of the time and have a fairly active lifestyle the rest takes care of itself. Check your choleserol, blood pressure, and be able to climb stairs without getting winded. After that your body will do what it does naturally she said.

At the time I thought she was saying that doing those things would keep you thin, but as I got older I can see that’s not what she meant at all. Good stuff.

I didn’t realize she was that tall.  I always thought she was short, just a little over five feet.

Wow, with all the weight talk (ugh), I was going to comment the other night that it’s was nice to see some women with meat on their bones on stage and tv.. Adele, Kelly, Miranda, Brittany Howard and heck even Beyonce and Katy Perry to name a few.

  • Hazehel

    You are welcome, Tinawina.
I should add  that the question arise for those who are obese.  Those who are overweight are more likely to have more problems with their health such as heart diseases and diabetes, so if they have signs of likely problems with their health then should consider dieting.  For those who are healthy but obese it’s a toss-up whether they should diet or not.  The dieting is likely to make their life shorter, but it might improve their quality of life.  There is however nothing that says if you are obese you must lose weight.  Exercise and eating balanced meals would do just as well.  It is, of course, best to avoid getting obese in the first place.

Large or small, Adele is a goddess but her dress was fugly.

Of course many people die early doing diet, because people usually do crap diets, Atkins and stuff, where they lose mroe nutrients than fat. There are overweight people that are healthier than slim people because of that. That’s why I said PROPER diet. I meant just eat well, balanced food.

And I agree about exercises. But it’s usually not enough, most of people couldn’t take LARGE amounts of junky fast food every single day and even with exercises avoid to develop any health problem like high cholesterol. Just eat well ;)

  • Leandro

I never disagreed about it. The problem is that when people talking about diet they usually think you are gonna just eat greens or even anything. You can eat everything you want, just balancing it. Read what I said to her or him.

  • Leandro

LOL. That’s kind hyperbolic. Anyone said it? Maybe they said Adele is obese, but Kelly is just slightly overweight and probably healthy. And  she could benefit from doing exercises and eating well, like even a slim person could, which was my whole point since the beginning. If she’s already doing it, good for her ;)

And I feel sorry for you, having to face the Grocery Gestapo every day, even being slim ;)
