American Idol: Mariah Carey Avoids Answering Nicki Minaj Question – LOS ANGELES, Calif. — “American Idol” returns to FOX in a few weeks, but judges Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj don’t appear to have become best buds just yet. When Access Hollywood asked Mariah on Wednesday afternoon if the two were getting along and had buried the hatchet, the singing superstar completely avoided addressing the question. “Christmas time is in here again,” she said. “Have you heard ‘All I Want For Christmas’? My song… I heard something really good about it today.” Nicki took a different approach when Access asked her a similar question. “We’re great. Thank you. We’re great,” she said. As for her experience on the show as a judge of new talent, Nicki – in a British accent – told Access things were going well. – Read more at Access

‘American Idol': Nicki Minaj Addresses ‘White Guy With Guitar’ Curse – While hard-pressed to explain why Idol audiences (and show producers) have been so averse to changing up styles (like incorporating rap) — “I have no idea,” said Minaj — the wig-sporting singer promised she’ll bring something new to the proverbial table. Viewers can expect plenty of “craziness and “kooky” behavior, she added. “Never a dull moment. … I try to never plan what I’m going to say or how I’m going to feel, I just try to stay in the moment.” As far as bonding in the room, it seems the judges are doing plenty of that — with the contestants. Said Minaj: “The contestants are lighting up my days. I didn’t think I would gel with them so much … it’s interesting that once you see these kids and how much they want it and you know it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, you really put your heart and soul into it. With the judges we’re having a lot of fun.” – Read more at The Hollywood Reporter

‘American Idol': Mariah Carey ‘Had Reservations’ About Joining Judges’ Panel – So now that she’s a multi-platinum recording artist sitting at the judges’ table for the Fox singing competition, she looks at the contestants and empathizes with their journey. “I get really attached to certain people for different reasons, whether it’s a story or mainly the talent,” Carey told reporters on Wednesday, as the competition was whittling down Hollywood Week contenders. “I see myself in some of the contestants when I first started.” As for her own role, Carey said she likes to think of herself “more of a fairy godmother” than a judge. Her method: “I try to speak frankly but as kind as possible,” she said. “But not sugar-coating … that won’t do anyone any good.” – Read more at Hollywood Reporter

‘American Idol': Keith Urban on His ‘Authentic’ Judging Style – As a rookie to the American Idol judges’ panel, Keith Urban vows to take a less Simon Cowell-ish approach to evaluating aspiring pop stars. So what makes a hopeful stand out in his eyes? “For me it’s just the connection,” Urban observed. “I just feel a connection, there’s something authentic about the way they speak to me and, for me, if there’s any emotions present — the joy, the vulnerability, the insecurity, the uncertainty, the anger, the whatever it is. If I could feel that in them then I’m interested no matter what they do. They could be out of tune but if you feel the genuine emotion and humanity [from] them then I’m interested.” – Read more at The Hollywood Reporter

X Factor': Tate Stevens talks Britney Spears, Emblem3, Carly Rose Sonenclar – Stevens wowed all four judges with his performance of Clay Walker’s love song “Fall” — which he dedicated to his wife less than one week after celebrating their 15th anniversary together — but Britney Spears felt like Stevens’ freewheeling first song, Craig Morgan’s “Bonfire,” wasn’t his best. “That’s fine, let her do it,” Stevens says in a post-show interview about Spears’ comments. “Drink a little haterade every once in awhile, that’s fine. I don’t think [what Spears said] was really that bad. She didn’t think it was my best performance, so it’s fine. I take ’em, and I use what I can out of each criticism. If I can’t use anything, I don’t pay it any mind.” – Read more at Zap2it

Glee Star Chris Colfer’s Struck By Lightning: First Look at His New Movie – Glee star Chris Colfer is getting the Mean Girls treatment from Modern Family’s Sarah Hyland. Fortunately, it’s not real. It’s all part of Struck By Lightning, the young stars’ new teen angst flick about a high school outsider named Carson (Colfer) who blackmails fellow students into contributing to his literary journal. – See the Video at EOnline

Nicki Minaj hopes to bring something new and different? I can only hope.

Even if I favored 2 of the 5 WGWGs who won this show and I kinda liked one other, I’m super tired of watching an audition in Hollywood Week where a white guy plays guitar and everybody predicting “There’s your winner, just give him the trophy already dammit”. Especially when 3 of those WGWGs were completely outclassed by one other person in the competition (including one of the 3 I favored).

Those new interviews with Adam are beyond. Just beyond. So sweet charming articulate gorgeous filled with so much goodness….

    Is it Sunday night yet???

  • Lexie O’Neill

First, I think it’s great that the American Idol website posts about all the past contestants’ performances.  That’s great!

Second, I’m just curious–does anyone know what ACMs Bucky is playing at?  The ACMs I know about are in the spring…

  • Sharon S.

I’d love to have been a fly on the wall when Adam was told he’d be singing “Love to Love You Baby”.  LOL!  “Hot Stuff” is going to apply in more ways than one. That performance is gonna be epic.  Actually, the whole Donna Summer medley should be awesome.

I can’t help but think this Divas show is going to be really good for Adam.  I just think he’s going to surprise a lot of people, in a good way.

  • bridgette12

I’m so glad they are honoring Donna Summers alone with Whitney Houston Sunday. Reading the list of songs that they are going to sing during the tribute, just reminds me of how great Donna was and what an impact she made in music.

Per usual with all of the Idol alums, Lyndsey’s interview with Adam is terrific.

Whew! Adam singing LTLYB! That song is practically made up of orgasmic moans, hot stuff indeed. Can’t wait for Sunday!

  • Chicagolaw

Lyndsey really does the best interviews.

Tonight at 9ET in Nashville Kelly will be playing a benefit show with her former backup singers, JillandKate, and Tyler Hilton for the Houses of Hope which is very dear to her heart.  They did one of these shows 2 years ago and everyone that was able to attend said it was a special night where everyone was very open and accessible.  This year they decided to live stream it for those that aren’t able to make it there.

The National Finals Rodeo is taking place right now in Las Vegas. As an added attraction, there is a Cowboy Fanfest at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The Academy is sponsoring the ACM Concert Stage featuring a different artist playing two shows a day at 1:30 and 4:00 Pacific Time daily. Bucky is today’s featured artist.

    From USA Today:

American Idol winner and former Nashville resident Taylor Hicks has a show of his own at Bally’s, and he said all the country in Vegas is a testament to the vast numbers of country music fans who come to the city. “A lot of middle America,” he said.

“All of these folks that I’ve known and seen and gotten to play with over the past four or five years being in one place tonight makes it really special,” he said at the American Country Awards.

Dont forget to hid the Children, or at least cover their ears and eyes.  But unless he kisses Pitbull, there wont be any censoring, he can kiss any of the ladies, and all will be fine, ROTFL!!!

This might be for the new ‘Stuff’ Adam was talking about?

It’s not every day you turn down hanging out with a mma wrestler for a Friday night in to songwrite for #adamlambert

    the bad wolf ?@badwolfyy
@GinnDoll why are you writing for Adam?

    GinnDoll ?@GinnDoll
working for a studio with a few producers who hangs with him and they
want to work on tracks pitch it to people, do remixes too

  • Montavilla

Even if I favored 2 of the 5 WGWGs who won this show and I kinda liked one other, I’m super tired of watching an audition in Hollywood Week where a white guy plays guitar and everybody predicting “There’s your winner, just give him the trophy already dammit”.

That’s only happened once.  They’ve only ever allowed one person to audition by playing a guitar.  (Although Casey got to play his melodica after auditioning and, I forget, did Taylor Hicks pull out the harmonica in his audition?)

  • Sharon S.

I have no clue what that drivel she spewed actually means (what tracks? pitching to whom?  remixing what?), but I seriously doubt whatever the hell she’s doing will wind up anywhere near Album #3.  She seems to be pretty much a nobody, and the album itself is barely a gleam in Adam’s eye at this point.

  • Lexie O’Neill

Here are some special pictures from the visit to the Washington, D.C. Children’s Hospital…including Scotty, Demi, Chris Mann, and Megan Hilty…

I remember two in season 11 – future winner and guy with nickname “Wolf”. CrystalB was holding her guitar.

  • jdanton2

Good article on some of the writers and producers Jordin Sparks is working on for her upcoming album.

  • standtotheright

Based on those writing credits, it looks like she’s going to target a more mature R&B sound. I hope it works for her.

  • BonnieDee

Nicki Minaj will cause ratings to plummet.  That’s my prediction.  WHY did they not go with just Randy, Mariah, and Keith?

  • Mateja Praznik

Because Randy, Mariah and Keith are all boring and old?

  • Lexie O’Neill

A review of Scotty’s CWSM from Canada…I love it not only because they gave him 5 out of 5, but they blasted Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta’s album (sorry, it’s mean, but it was funny)…Believe it or not, I’ve only brought over a fraction of the reviews he’s gotten–love the publicity!

  • Trina

Because Randy, Mariah and Keith are all boring and old?

When I was a teen growing up and I would snicker at “old” people my grandmother use to say “one day YOU”LL be old”.  And amazing how its already proven Keith and Mariah are boring without an episode airing yet. Nicki should be so lucky to have a career that lasts as long as those crusty old farts have lasted in the business.

YEA CANADA That the spirit. 5 out of 5 for Scotty. Love living here.

And amazing how its already proven Keith and Mariah are boring without an episode airing yet

The same is true of the critiques of Nicki as a judge.

Nobody knows how good any of these people would be, but from a producers standpoint it would only make sense to have a panel that appeals to a diverse audience, and conventional wisdom would say that Mariah, Randy and Keith won’t lure in a younger audience.  Maybe Nicki won’t either, but the producers just couldn’t sit back and absorb another nearly 40% drop in the demo.

  • Montavilla

    Age means nothing.

It certainly doesn’t after watching that 121212 concert!  Dang gummit if those farty old rockers didn’t bring down the house!

  • Montavilla

I remember two in season 11 – future winner and guy with nickname “Wolf”. CrystalB was holding her guitar.

Sorry.  I must have missed “Wolf.”  :)

Yeah.  Crystal had her guitar, but she wasn’t allowed to play it.  As soon as she did, she started getting called a front runner.

  • Tyson

Sure, once.  For a benefit concert.

Good luck to them pulling numbers for a weekly series.
