American Idol: Mariah Carey Avoids Answering Nicki Minaj Question – LOS ANGELES, Calif. — “American Idol” returns to FOX in a few weeks, but judges Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj don’t appear to have become best buds just yet. When Access Hollywood asked Mariah on Wednesday afternoon if the two were getting along and had buried the hatchet, the singing superstar completely avoided addressing the question. “Christmas time is in here again,” she said. “Have you heard ‘All I Want For Christmas’? My song… I heard something really good about it today.” Nicki took a different approach when Access asked her a similar question. “We’re great. Thank you. We’re great,” she said. As for her experience on the show as a judge of new talent, Nicki – in a British accent – told Access things were going well. – Read more at Access

‘American Idol’: Nicki Minaj Addresses ‘White Guy With Guitar’ Curse – While hard-pressed to explain why Idol audiences (and show producers) have been so averse to changing up styles (like incorporating rap) — “I have no idea,” said Minaj — the wig-sporting singer promised she’ll bring something new to the proverbial table. Viewers can expect plenty of “craziness and “kooky” behavior, she added. “Never a dull moment. … I try to never plan what I’m going to say or how I’m going to feel, I just try to stay in the moment.” As far as bonding in the room, it seems the judges are doing plenty of that — with the contestants. Said Minaj: “The contestants are lighting up my days. I didn’t think I would gel with them so much … it’s interesting that once you see these kids and how much they want it and you know it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, you really put your heart and soul into it. With the judges we’re having a lot of fun.” – Read more at The Hollywood Reporter

‘American Idol’: Mariah Carey ‘Had Reservations’ About Joining Judges’ Panel – So now that she’s a multi-platinum recording artist sitting at the judges’ table for the Fox singing competition, she looks at the contestants and empathizes with their journey. “I get really attached to certain people for different reasons, whether it’s a story or mainly the talent,” Carey told reporters on Wednesday, as the competition was whittling down Hollywood Week contenders. “I see myself in some of the contestants when I first started.” As for her own role, Carey said she likes to think of herself “more of a fairy godmother” than a judge. Her method: “I try to speak frankly but as kind as possible,” she said. “But not sugar-coating … that won’t do anyone any good.” – Read more at Hollywood Reporter

‘American Idol’: Keith Urban on His ‘Authentic’ Judging Style – As a rookie to the American Idol judges’ panel, Keith Urban vows to take a less Simon Cowell-ish approach to evaluating aspiring pop stars. So what makes a hopeful stand out in his eyes? “For me it’s just the connection,” Urban observed. “I just feel a connection, there’s something authentic about the way they speak to me and, for me, if there’s any emotions present — the joy, the vulnerability, the insecurity, the uncertainty, the anger, the whatever it is. If I could feel that in them then I’m interested no matter what they do. They could be out of tune but if you feel the genuine emotion and humanity [from] them then I’m interested.” – Read more at The Hollywood Reporter

X Factor’: Tate Stevens talks Britney Spears, Emblem3, Carly Rose Sonenclar – Stevens wowed all four judges with his performance of Clay Walker’s love song “Fall” — which he dedicated to his wife less than one week after celebrating their 15th anniversary together — but Britney Spears felt like Stevens’ freewheeling first song, Craig Morgan’s “Bonfire,” wasn’t his best. “That’s fine, let her do it,” Stevens says in a post-show interview about Spears’ comments. “Drink a little haterade every once in awhile, that’s fine. I don’t think [what Spears said] was really that bad. She didn’t think it was my best performance, so it’s fine. I take ’em, and I use what I can out of each criticism. If I can’t use anything, I don’t pay it any mind.” – Read more at Zap2it
