Bucky Covington Goes to Prison for a Day

“Bucky Covington, recently signed to the eOne label, shot the video for his next single, “I Wanna Be That Feeling,” at the Tennessee State Prison in Nashville. The site isn’t one most people would likely pick for the clip to a love song, but Covington jokes that prison “kind of makes sense, if you think about that.” While at the jail, Covington couldn’t resist the opportunity to sit in the electric chair where a long line of prisoners were executed. He escaped without incident, though the remote possibility that he could’ve been jolted with electricity could’ve made that an unwise move. “Looking back,” he says, “I’m agreeing.” The single ships in January.”

Josh Gracin Talks ‘Redemption,’ Working With Ruben Studdard Again

“I worked on this one for a little while,” he tells Billboard.com. “I think I handed it in to the record company about six months ago. They took it at that point, got it mastered, and tweaked a few things. They got done with it at the end of August. Now we’re here.”

Gracin collaborated with Ruben Studdard on “Catastrophe.” He had the song written, but realized it needed a little bit of work, and sent him a message via Twitter. “I didn’t know if he would see it or not because you never know who’s actually doing the pages. He sent me a message right back, and he lives in Birmingham. So, all I had to do was drive down there — about two hours — and we finished it. He came up with a brilliant bridge.”

Newlywed Nikki Reed Tells Us Why Edward Cullen Wouldn’t Have Approved of Her Wedding!

PS: Was there anything from [Bella and Edward's] wedding that inspired your own wedding? Any elements?
NR: No, but that’s not because — I mean, their wedding was beautiful. It was beautiful, it was like a movie. It was sort of very classic and traditional and timeless and Kristen looked absolutely gorgeous. But my wedding was much more casual and sort of like, relaxed, and not as conventional. It was like hay bales and twinkle lights and no shoes and that kind of thing, which Edward Cullen would not have been okay with!

‘X Factor’s’ LeRoy Bell Can Laugh At His Lip Syncing Foible: ‘It’s Like a Spoof’

“When I saw it, I just fell out laughing,” Bell, 60, tells The Hollywood Reporter. “I was like, ‘What the heck?’ It’s like a spoof or something.”

It was treated like a major deception by some fans, launching countless cries of foul play on the part of the Fox show. But, the practice of singing to prerecorded vocals on songs isn’t unique to The X Factor, though it had to fully admit to the practice after Bell’s mistake caught the attention of fans.

‘X Factor’ Contestant Warned You Drink, You Smoke, You Lose

Josh Krajcik’s chance at winning $5 million bucks on “X Factor” could go up in smoke — because the singer’s doctor believes cigarettes and booze are sabotaging his shot at victory … TMZ has learned.

A source close to the production tells us, Krajcik was having issues with his voice giving out during practice last week — a doctor told him boozing and smoking were to blame … and Krajcik should stop both IMMEDIATELY.

Backstage at DWTS: Which Stars Fell “in Love”? And Who’s Demanding Life in Prison for Conrad Murray?

That outspoken contestant, naturally, is Nancy Grace, who told our Ted Casablanca a few months ago that Conrad Murray “should have been charged with murder one.” So how does she feel about the guilty verdict handed down earlier today? “I agree with the verdict in the sense that he needs to be convicted,” she told us. “I disagree with the charging decision, as I have said from the beginning. He should have been charged with murder with a syringe to the knee as a murder weapon. He should be doing life behind bars. I only hope that the judge has the backbone to make sure Conrad Murray stays behind bars for the full four years, which is a pittance of what he should be convicted of and sentenced to.”

He escaped without incident, though the remote possibility that he could’ve been jolted with electricity could’ve made that an unwise move. “Looking back,” he says, “I’m agreeing.”

    LOL. Bucky cracks me up.

I’m interested to hear Josh and Ruben’s collaboration.

I think we can expect to see a bunch of Idols at tonight’s BMI Country Awards. Looking forward to Scotty and Lauren’s segments on All Access Nashville tonight too.

I’ve always loved Carrie’s ballads but it seems like she’s really gone after more quality uptempos. I’m very curious to hear what “edgy” means for her. In June she was talking about having some folky, acoustic songs in her back pocket. Also curious to hear what Brad & Carrie have on tap for this year’s CMAs because they both seem very pumped. Haha at Carrie telling them if it doesn’t go over well then it was all Brad’s idea. Also, Brad: “I’m sorry I have no idea what you said but the answer is 35.” LOLZ!

I love uptempo Carrie!!!! ( I’ve downloaded most of her uptempo songs but not the ballads) But edgy and Carrie are not two words I’d put together

    Very nice.
    Love David’s voice.
Just proves you CAN stand still, perform, and STILL “sell” a song.
    Beautiful.

  • windmills

Her exact words were “a little more edgy” so she meant it as a relative term in the context of what she’s done in the past. Carrie’s not exactly the kind of gal who’s going to go around saying she’s edgy since she’s not big on kidding herself. I’m interested to see whether she’s talking about in terms of what she’s singing about, how it sounds, or both.

Actually, the vast majority of the views are not from fans, but from random viewers who don’t know Matt or Lindsey but are just looking around for new music or like the song and/or video.  It is a really interesting thing that I don’t recall seeing on this blog before, but I’m sure I’ll be corrected if it has happened.  Their video is one of those youtube phenomenon like the laughing baby or cat videos.  It is now on the front page of youtube/music, so people all over the world are watching it, sending it to their friends, favoriting it, etc.

So the real question is what happens to a youtube phenomenon from an independent release.  Will it pass after a day or so?  Can it translate into sales and/or radio play?

Seems like someone spilled something which is supposed to be secret/surprise. Too late, James Ingham. Or is that intentional? LOL.

  • Anonymous

Actually, the vast majority of the views are not from fans, but from random viewers who don’t know Matt or Lindsey but are just looking around for new music or like the song and/or video.

How do you know that this is the case?  The video is on the front page of Youtube now, because it has gotten so many views, but how do you explain the incredible number of views that it had to pile up in order to make it onto the page?

It’s understandable how cat videos can go viral, but how does a video by an unknown indie artist go viral.  How would people know about the video to go check it out.  And if you are saying that these one million plus views represent around the same number of individual viewers, what does it say about the song that people aren’t turning around and buying the single?  We know that having a video on Youtube that has a lot of views doesn’t mean that people won’t buy the single.  There are enough examples with people like Gaga, Bieber, Rihanna, and countless others that show that people will still buy the single if they like it.

There are plenty of youtube (myspace) success stories, but the songs of most of those people weren’t available for purchase, but this one is, so I’m not sure how any label or person who has influence would view this situation.

  • Anonymous

I can’t see too much wrong with being an artist whose video is getting a huge amount of views on YouTube. There’s always a “but” or a ”yet” to any situation. This still means great exposure for the artists. Why not look at the long term positive effect of getting one’s name out and getting known by a lot more people? It’s not always about how many records or albums you sell today, but about building a career. And since, up until recently, Matt wasn’t really getting any exposure, how is this bad in any way? Seems pretty darn great to me.

  • Anonymous

This is what appears to be the case from watching youtube statistics, twitter traffic and the fact that this video was a minor blip on the AI blogs.  Since AI, Matt does not have any youtube videos with more than 40,000 views.  Lindsey is a complete newcomer, and this is her first video on youtube.  So it is not either of their fan bases, and for the most part, it does not appear to be AI fans either.

When the video first came out, it was linked from a large number of blogs related to AI.  I cannot explain how it went viral, but over the past week, we saw a number of compendiums of youtube videos picking it up, and this brought the views up exponentially.  Yesterday it received a million of its current 1.6 million views.   Now it is a “Trend” and a “Popular Video around the Web” on youtube and so the views continue to go up.

But I agree with you that I’m not sure how helpful this is until it translates into sales or radio play, and I’m wondering how/if it will transition.

  • Anonymous

And it’ll be fascinating to watch.  These viral phenomenons intrigue me.  Having one within the Idol bubble should be fun.

It’s not always about how many records or albums you sell today, but about building a career. And since, up until recently, Matt wasn’t really getting any exposure, how is this bad in any way? Seems pretty darn great to me.  My question would be what’s the point of fans running up youtube views.  What are they trying to prove.  Is it logical to think that Program Directors or label insiders would look at this and say that this shows that a lot of people want to hear music from these two?  Is it logical to even say that the high number of views means that music from these two are reaching new people?  The most important thing is getting people to buy the album, that’s why I think it’s always weird when people do this with songs that are available for purchase, because if someone who could make a difference in the careers of these artists sees that the views aren’t translating to people buying the album, what type of conclusion would they jump to?  Would they say that people don’t like the music or the artists?I guess one bright side is that the artists get paid for the views that happen on their official channels.

  • Anonymous

I see your point but it depends on so many assumptions.

Someone who could make a difference to the artists’ careers (not sure who) is supposed to a) notice the video, b) notice the number of views it has, c) check to see if that is translating to sales or not, and d) conclude the artists are not worth signing because the views do not correspond to the number of sales. If I understand this correctly.

I once read that an actor was cast in a movie because the producer’s daughter thought he was cute. Is that logical? Is anything in a crazy business logical?

The way I see it is, exposure could lead anywhere. It’s better than no exposure. So it’s good. Maybe it will get people talking, and word of mouth will lead to demand. Maybe not. But beyond that how can I speculate?

Doesn’t seem like Matt was upset about it, and he’s the artist, so he should know what he wants, or what he’s happy about.

Scotty’s vid with Josh Turner went viral and then they pulled it for copyright issues (was top viewed in the world for about a day).  It got started because several bloggers loved how surprised he was…it was also the weekend of his Top 3 visit.

One thing I know is that the whole Scotty thing helped Josh’s sales so maybe if this Matt vid is part of something bigger.  But then again, these vids going viral doesn’t usually last long…I agree it can’t hurt though.

  • Anonymous

I have no idea why Matt’s video went viral, but I can assure you it is not a result of any organized fan activity. Neither Matt nor Lindsey have a fan base at this point that is capable of doing this (as someone who has been following Matt’s career pretty closely).  That was what I was trying to say in my previous post.

At any rate, I like Ross’s view that any exposure is good exposure.

The X-FactorUSA posted on their site that Phillip Lomax will host X-factor Live Pre show tomorrow – Wednesday Nov. 9 at 7/6C on “thexfactorusa.com”.  Its only shown online though. Here is the direct link to the article http://www.thexfactorusa.com/articles/phillip-lomax-makes-his-comeback

I didnt know the they do pre live shows, but I will watch it online to see Phillip cause he’s a favorite of mine.  I’m less interested in this show now once they took Phillip out (and a couple I like.) Phillip did win that X-factor poll of who people will miss most, so its nice they have him host this. He should have made top 12 and he’d be a good addition to the X-factor tour.
