Emmys 2012: How to Fix the Reality Races – Barely more than a twinkle in the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences’ eye just a decade ago, reality TV now accounts for three separate Emmy races — despite the fact that the winners never seem to change. And if repetition breeds disinterest, the main Emmy reality categories — outstanding reality program, reality-competition program and host for a reality or reality-competition program — have become a veritable puppy mill of apathy. There’s no need for anyone but Survivor host Jeff Probst to jot down a list of people to thank; The Amazing Race executive producers Elise Doganieri and Bertram van Munster know well how to climb the stage, and everyone affiliated with American Idol has accepted they won’t need to stand up until the primetime telecast is over. – Read more at The Hollywood Reporter

Why is a -40% loss in ratings inconceivable? Weren’t ratings down 30% this year?

  • Hazehel

Please. Rebecca sings circles around the so called wgwg. If she was a guy no one would ever criticize her singing.

It’s getting funnier, as if no one criticizes Lee DeWyze here (people here even criticize Phillip Phillips, who isn’t even that much of an offender).   Just pick any video of her performances on X-Factor, and see how many notes she is on pitch.  Here for example -  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=orfXR31X1ao  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KyxJvy_AroY  or
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFAZ6TvK-3c  (the first minute she is practically off-pitch on all the notes, then keeps going off-pitch the rest of the song, Lee DeWyze was never as bad as that),  and when she returned to perform

Hazehel, did Rebecca win?? How about Lee? Did he win?

     They have to stabilize sometime.

Hazehel, did Rebecca win?? How about Lee? Did he win?

Are you arguing that if Lee had lost, he would not be considered pitchy any more?

  • Anonymous

Even if she didn’t win, it doesn’t cover up the fact that she is pitchy. Would you have liked Lee/Phillip better if they lost?

  • Anonymous

I’m arguing that if Lee had lost to Crystal, people wouldn’t have been bothered by his pitchyness. People weren’t opposed to someone like Lee and Phillip being in the competition, all singing competitions have some people that aren’t great singers. I even liked Lee and Phillip for the most part. Until they outlasted far superior singers. Rebecca didn’t do that. She beat out poor singers like Cher and One Direction. So your comparison between her not winning X Factor and Lee winning Idol is pointless.

  • Hazehel

I’m arguing that if Lee had lost to Crystal, people wouldn’t have been bothered by his pitchyness.

That certainly wasn’t my impression of Season 9.  People here were criticizing Lee all season long, they were certainly bothered by his off-pitch singing.

Rebecca didn’t do that. She beat out poor singers like Cher and One Direction.

Half of the contestants she outlasted could sing better than her, or at least stay on pitch better.

The thing about Rebecca is that she is a stylized kind of singer, if you like her style, you can forgive her other faults, being a good singer isn’t the main criteria.  In the same vein you can say that Phillip Phillips’ singing is also kind of stylized, also to some extent Lee.  If you don’t like their styles of singing, then you’d see only their faults.

But the thing you keep missing, is that Rebecca didn’t win, and Lee and Phillip did. And also, who exactly did Rebecca outlast that sang better than her? Wagner lol?

Well that wasn’t me, I supported him and crystal most of the competition, so you can take that up with other people.

with the right song i think most of singer can capture people’s heart, not only 2P

  • Hazehel

But the thing you keep missing, is that Rebecca didn’t win, and Lee and Phillip did.

Winning makes no difference to whether you consider them good singer or not.

And also, who exactly did Rebecca outlast that sang better than her? Wagner lol?

    Let’s see…
Aiden Grimshaw – constipated style of singing, but at least not as out-of-tune as Rebecca.
Mary Byrne – I don’t like her, but she can sing, and she is only rarely off-pitch.
Paije Richardson – boring singer, but only occasionally off-pitch.
Katie Waissel – everyone hates her, can go off-pitch, but had some good performances and sings better than Rebecca.
TreyC Cohen – a third-rate Tina Turner, but reasonably on tune.
