Adam just announced on VH1 that he’ll be performing at this year’s New Now Next Awards on Logo (April 9).

James Durbin was just announced as part of another big rock festival, Rocklahoma, Memorial Day weekend:

Drumroll please…….the 2012 Rocklahoma line-up has been announced! Go to http://rocklahoma.com for all the details! http://pic.twitter.com/piqp4SWY

This time his name is larger (for those that commented on his name being small on the last announcement).

  • GS61

Last night in Pittsburgh, PA a lucky winner of a local radio contest won a private concert at her house featuring James Durbin and his “Acoustic Thunder” lol.

I now know I’m old when I only recognize 3 of the names listed as headlining this event.

  • Moria Polonius

I like Adam’s current “realness” look, but I just love love his look in these photos. The smoky eye make up, the shirt. They give just a touch of femininity to the masculinity of the upswept hairdo and the jacket. He pulls off that androgyny thing that I love about him really well.

Oooh, and Sauli’s nothing to sneeze at either. Love his shirt/jacket combo too.

    Mah rock star couple!

I am so ecstatic that James is getting yet another opportunity to jam with these hard rock acts! I think this is an absolutely superb way to force his foot through the crack in the door and open it into the hardcore rock world (I’m speaking specifically of fans, and not executives/mag editors/etc, of this type of music).

And if details are announced about a tour, I will be an even more content happy-camper.

  • Anonymous

I recognize lots of them, but I listen to a lot of rock music.  That’s how I feel when I see names of country bands.  Even though I’m a fan of Scotty too, I feel totally out of the loop because I’m not usually a country music person at all.

  • Anonymous

There are many well-established rock bands playing the concert. Basically, the first 3-4 lines of the flyer are all pretty big names in rock music. The rest of the names are pretty much up & coming bands.

    Incredible stats from Fox Research:

#FOX was No. 1 last night in Adults 18-49 (6.0/16), Adults 18-34 (4.2/13), Total Viewers (18.6 million) and all demos #AmericanIdol

Remember what I posted about James performing at Angelo’s: that it felt like he was performing in our own living room? Well, there you go…no similes needed now. LOL

Really great Adam interview on VH1. The interviewer was a lot of fun.

  • asifclueless

Are those nipps peeking through the sheer shirt of Adam’s?
    Peek-ka-boo!!!
    I’m ded!!!

Well, I think with each big event in which James is included in the hard rock community, he will be more and more accepted as a rocker.  I love too that with these things (Nomination for the Golden God Award, Rock on the Range and Rocklahoma), if you notice, they don’t say a word about American Idol (unlike radio events who still keep promoting him as a former Idol).  So people who don’t ever watch American Idol (which is most of the hard rock community), won’t associate him with that and he won’t have that stigma to overcome right off the bat.  He will get a fair chance to win over new fans at these events without the stigma attached.

  • GS61

He sure has come along way in his interaction with his fans. He seems really comfortable now.
For example, when I saw him last summer at the Idol show, he was signing autographs at the barricades, hardly looking up, and interacting only occasionally with some fans. You could tell he was really struggling with this at the time.
Fast forward six months to Angelo’s and it was like night and day!
Talking with us and everyone, joking with me and daughter, you guys, (still laughing about the socks, lol) really comfortable and friendly.

And you’re right about the performance in the living room. It was exactly like those videos when we saw him. I hope he comes back to Jersey soon with the whole band this time.
I’ll be first in line for those tickets!

I’m amazed how much James has grown in so many areas.

What is the most striking transformation to me (I guess since I didn’t stay after the Idol concert to meet any of them to know about his one-on-one interaction), is when I listen/watch some of these recent interviews, I can’t help but recall his convos with the judges after the Idol performances. Like you said, night and day! I’ve heard him say himself how incredibly awkward he felt during the judges panel but now he seems so incredibly relaxed and sincerely appears to be having a good time talking with all these different people, especially on the air (which would make me sound even more awkward).

I alway felt his performances were special however. He always had that more intimate connection with the audience for me, even thru the TV during Idol. Seeing him live just magnified that quality.

  • Alexia Katrantzis

I didn’t know about the Golden God Award nomination, and it’s for Best Vocalist! So glad James is getting the recognition he deserves from the peeps that matter most for his amazing pipes m/

Yay for performance at NNN!!! Also UNF! to those Blonds photos! Adam in a see thru top you just don’t see everyday and he looks uber hot! He also looks like he has lost 20 pounds, may have to look into this juicing thing, lol. Damn, I had missed him all glammed out so I am glad he hasn’t given that up. Sauli looks delicious too.

  • Anonymous

Good for James, he may carve out a niche in rock yet.

Oh yeeaaah, those are nips, hehe. The shirt is transparent toward the bottom too, love this outfit.

I have to agree, sabbia. His stage presence was always there on Idol. He came alive on stage, and whether it was pyro or (my favorite) just standing there with his guitar singing “Will You Love Me Tomorrow”, he owned that stage. I don’t think that part of James’ comfort level was ever in question, but I could see how uncomfortable he was ‘off’ the stage, after the shows, interacting with fans, and even those first interviews he did in New York when his album dropped – awkward and uncomfortable. And now, a couple of months later, there is a world of difference. He’s delightful, funny, charming – so happy that things are looking up for him and his beautiful little family!

  • Nele621

Now if he can only sing on key.

  • fuzzywuzzy

I’ve learned that doesn’t matter for rock.  lol

Super hard rock is definitely not my thing, but inexplicably I’m a long-time Queensryche fan.  I’m not even sure how it first happened LOL.  Even though that genre of music is not one I’m intimately familiar with, I recognize a bunch of those Rocklahoma bands.  That is going to be a really fun experience for James.

That was a good interview Adam did with VH-1.  He’s just really got the right personality for that kind of stuff.  He’s very fortunate in that regard.

Either this is wrong, or the people who run NBC and The Voice are stupid.

    http://newyork.metromix.com/movies/article/the-voice-within-calling/3002224/content

So is slumping NBC, which with precious few exceptions has been bereft of hits. Aside from Sunday Night Football, The Voice is now the most successful and important show on the network and has surpassed CBS’ once-dominant Monday comedy block in the ratings. Though NBC resisted the temptation last fall, The Voice will sing again come September, airing two annual cycles just as many top reality shows do.

What temptation did they resist?  They said last year that this was a bad move, logistically impossible, and that in the long run it would shorten the lifespan of the show.

At least this news will tick off Simon Cowell.

  • Anonymous

I see in this article it says James is quickly approaching 100,000 in sales.  I wonder where they got that information.

  • Anonymous

A nomination for Best Lead Vocalist….go figure. Or is someone going to argue that all those people who nominate are tone-deaf? lol

  • Anonymous

LOL. I’m gonna overlook that ’cause we agree on so many other things. :)

  • Alexia Katrantzis

And up against Sebastian Bach & Amy Lee no less, but WTF is Ivan Moody doing there???

  • Nele621

That sweater looks different than the one where he was sitting on the bed. Cute, but Zorro doesn’t look very happy.

    Zorro is scowling! LOL

Adam was looking so damn fine. I miss his glam look too.
But what about his eyes? was he wearing a contact lense or is he starting to morph into a wolf? lol

Desdemona2011 & Nele621, I do get the feeling that ZorroPup does not like to be held. He has similar expression the OK Magazine photo shoot he did last year.

I think someone here got the latest numbers from Soundscan, they’re in the numbers thread.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/XDQP2Y46M5B3OHOKALDDGDHQCM Leandro

It matters, but I think it’s quite different from the bubble, where if go out of tune one time, u are done. It’s like Dave Grohl said in his speech.
Dave Grohl himself  goes off key a lot of times but still developing a good show.

  • Anonymous

The last update we had was 2,000 for 1-22, making a total of 83,000 (he was still in BB 200)  Do wish we knew his sales for these last 3 weeks, even though he’s out of the BB 200 since then. Still, I don’t think he’s “quickly approaching 100,000 in sales” – it just sounds better that way, like another figure being debated a week or so ago.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/XDQP2Y46M5B3OHOKALDDGDHQCM Leandro

James Durbin knows personally Amy Lee, Sebastian Bach and Andy from BVB. 3 of the nominees. He may get a chance to know Dave Grohl as well. At this point, he’s really getting some recognition in the rock scene.

But I’m not sure if he can continue trying to do it with a HAC song and please the Hard Rock world at the same time.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_MV64BS4FSISCASL4P656RXAFYQ Kayla

Still, I don’t think he’s “quickly approaching 100,000 in sales”

If sales have held fairly steady, it would mean James was somewhere around 89K, which seems to me to be correctly characterized as quickly approaching 100K. It’s not Adele or anything, but it looks like a sure thing he’s gonna hit it.

  • Alexia Katrantzis

He never performs LMB at the rock stations he visits nor did he do it at the Roxy for the private party for Nikki Sixx; he performed HTH on Revolver TV. I highly doubt LMB will be part of James’ set list for ROTR and Rocklahoma. Nope those are his opportunities to showcase the heavier songs on MOABD and the unreleased songs he’s currently writing with his band.

  • http://twitter.com/wanermania k w

I don’t think Dave Grohl was talking about live performances. It seemed to me he was talking about, the over producing of albums. The autotune and over production, make it to were this so called artist can’t perform live, without all of this backtracking garbage. They can not sing like they do on the album. I think that was Dave’s point.

  • http://twitter.com/wanermania k w

He was saying they recorded this album in his garage on the old recording systems.

Nigel tweeted “Tonight’s #AmericanIdol is definitely one of my favorites of all time. I’m biased because I directed it but there is some great talent on it”

    he also tweeted:

There’s a lot of GREAT performances on #AmericanIdol tonight. Check out Candice, Jessica and Deandre singing “I Guess It Doesn’t Matter.”

I also loved the groups who sang “Sealed With A Kiss” and both “Eyes”
songs. “I Only Have Eyes For You” and “The Night Has A Thousand Eyes.”

    Can’t wait for tonight!

  • Anonymous

I think he’ll hit 100K, too, Kayla – I HOPE he IS continuing to sell 1 – 2K a week, which would get him there in only  few more weeks, so I’d be more than happy to take it back! I’m a HUGE fan of James.

  • Anonymous

It said in the other thread that James has sold I think around 72,000 physical CDs.  As far as digital downloads go, he has been in the top 1000 iTunes downloads pretty consistently since his release and when Amazon ran their sale he was #1 in downloads for several days.  So I would imagine, just guessing, that he is somewhere in the high 80s by now, like you said.

  • Anonymous

Ok, I keep losing the post from Brian Mansfield of USA Today when he gave the 1-22-12 BB numbers, and James was OUT of the BB 200 that week for the first time, but he sold 2,000 for a total of 83,000.

Hopefully, this link will work, if the post is gone:

    http://content.usatoday.com/communities/idolchatter/post/2012/01/kelly-clarksons-stronger-hits-the-half-million-mark/1#.Tz1ierTNkw8

  • Anonymous

It says in the other thread that James sold approx. 1,600 physical CDs in each of the past two weeks.  Add digital downloads to that and he is probably selling just under 2,000 each week.  In that case, Kayla probably hit it pretty much on the head at around 89,000.

  • Anonymous

     From the link just above:

Although James Durbin’s Memories of a Beautiful Disaster drops out of the Billboard 200 this week, the two top finishers from American Idol Season 10 saw their weekly sales go up: Scotty McCreery’s Clear as Day climbed 7%, while Lauren’s Alaina’s Wildflower sprang up 41%.

    Idol albums
    Kelly Clarkson, Stronger (15,000 weekly, -6%, 501,000 total) (#14 Billboard 200)
    Scotty McCreery, Clear as Day (11,000, +7%, 890,000) (#29 BB200)
    Daughtry, Break the Spell (8,000, -8%, 346,000) (#42 BB200)
    Lauren Alaina, Wildflower (5,000, +41%, 233,000) (#86 BB200)
James Durbin, Memories of a Beautiful Disaster (2,000, -43%, 83,000)
Carrie Underwood, Play On (2,000, -5%, 2.075 million)
Mandisa, What If We Were Real (1,000, +12%, 140,000) (140,000)
Carrie Underwood, Some Hearts (1,000, -1%, 7.163 million)
    Daughtry, Daughtry (1,000, -12%)

  • Anonymous

I dunno….maybe he intended to mean albums but I think his words can apply to the whole gamut of the pop music industry from production to actual performances. Afterall, in addition to the artificial sound of the recorded tracks, most of the pop performances on TV nowadays (I can’t speak for concerts since I never go to them), it is nothing but OTT visual props with the recorded track in the background that they are merely lip-syncing to. Even the human vocal instrument is totally eliminated.

I just don’t get the impression that these artists even care about trying to reproduce the sound while performing live when it seems they are primarily concerned about stimulating the visual sense.

  • Anonymous

I’ve been wondering why James hasn’t been listed when posting album sales lately. If he is selling 1600 physical CDs per week, why hasn’t he been listed in Manfield’s album count? Afterall, the other Idols are listed that are selling around 1,000.

  • Anonymous

I have no idea.  I wondered that myself.

Never mind….Pam just answered the question in another thread. We should move this conversation over there. She said his figures didn’t show up in the BB200 but showed up someplace else. We should move this discussion to the Idols in Concert thread if we need to continue it.

LOL, Zorro’s expression, that and his sticking ears make him so funny.

I’m hoping the camera will put 10 pounds on Kris, he looks so skinny in that outfit. He looks better in that Henley from the mint, IMO of course.

  • Anonymous

     To sabbia and thirdtime,

I think that Brian Mansfield only has privy to the numbers of those idols, etc that actually make the BB Top 200 each week, but he has a few contacts that he can get those off the chart from, but some genres are more difficult for him to call in favors.

  • Anonymous

That would make sense.  Well I guess it’s safe to assume James is currently around 90,000 or so in sales.  That’s probably why they expect him to hit 100,000 soon. If we need to talk about it more, we should move to the stats thread instead of here – before MJ yells at us :)

  • Nele621

Is Clay Aiken using Trump’s hair stylist? It’s kind of like he is trying to look cool by spiking up his hair, but it’s just not working for him. Or his hair is not cooperating.

  • http://twitter.com/1WaySTweet Ron Simpson

I’m pretty sure that spiky mess is on purpose. A sort of spiky bedhead.

  • Nele621

I don’t mind spiky bedhead look. He just puts a big ol part in it which looks too weird.

  • Trina

I dont ever remember hearing digital sales isnt counted in Soundscan numbers. I’m pretty sure whatever Brian posts is the exact figure.

Clay has had many hairdos but that spiky look dates back to his AI days. Go back and look at any of his performances or his debut album era, he always wore spiked hair. The bedhead look was the first haircut he got when AI made him over.

  • http://twitter.com/1WaySTweet Ron Simpson

He’s certainly one of a kind and totally recognizable with those messy parted spikes. It works for him I guess.

  • Mateja Praznik

Hmm, it looks like Brian May is on San Remo festival tonight …

  • Anonymous

OMG! I have been looking for any reason whatsoever to avoid doing school work so thought I’d check out Clay’s bedhead spike look that is such a hot topic.

I’ve never watched one minute of the Apprentice but after reading Twisted Sister singer Dee Snider and American Chopper’s Paul Teutul Sr were going to be on, I am not going to be able to stop myself. Those 2 strong-willed personalities in one room is going to be one helluva a set of fireworks to watch!

  • Anonymous

I don’t think she was referring to Brian’s #s not including digital downloads, she knows his figures include them.  It’s the physical CD sales #s for the past few weeks for James that Pam posted in the stats thread that is throwing her off.  She is trying to figure out how to also get the digital download # since Pam only has the physical CD sales #, for the past 3 weeks since Brian hasn’t posted #s for James.  I think she needs it for another place where she updates James #s.  But I don’t know of any way for her to find out that #, do you?  In other words, Brian had all sales figures up to 1/22 – 83,000 – and Pam has physical CD #s after that but no digital download #s.

  • MissMyEm

Might be the angle of the camera and not Kris.  When I saw him Friday he looked quite good.
