Ok, I keep losing the post from Brian Mansfield of USA Today when he gave the 1-22-12 BB numbers, and James was OUT of the BB 200 that week for the first time, but he sold 2,000 for a total of 83,000.

Hopefully, this link will work, if the post is gone:

It says in the other thread that James sold approx. 1,600 physical CDs in each of the past two weeks.  Add digital downloads to that and he is probably selling just under 2,000 each week.  In that case, Kayla probably hit it pretty much on the head at around 89,000.

     From the link just above:

Although James Durbin’s Memories of a Beautiful Disaster drops out of the Billboard 200 this week, the two top finishers from American Idol Season 10 saw their weekly sales go up: Scotty McCreery’s Clear as Day climbed 7%, while Lauren’s Alaina’s Wildflower sprang up 41%.

    Idol albums
    Kelly Clarkson, Stronger (15,000 weekly, -6%, 501,000 total) (#14 Billboard 200)
    Scotty McCreery, Clear as Day (11,000, +7%, 890,000) (#29 BB200)
    Daughtry, Break the Spell (8,000, -8%, 346,000) (#42 BB200)
    Lauren Alaina, Wildflower (5,000, +41%, 233,000) (#86 BB200)
James Durbin, Memories of a Beautiful Disaster (2,000, -43%, 83,000)
Carrie Underwood, Play On (2,000, -5%, 2.075 million)
Mandisa, What If We Were Real (1,000, +12%, 140,000) (140,000)
Carrie Underwood, Some Hearts (1,000, -1%, 7.163 million)
    Daughtry, Daughtry (1,000, -12%)

I dunno….maybe he intended to mean albums but I think his words can apply to the whole gamut of the pop music industry from production to actual performances. Afterall, in addition to the artificial sound of the recorded tracks, most of the pop performances on TV nowadays (I can’t speak for concerts since I never go to them), it is nothing but OTT visual props with the recorded track in the background that they are merely lip-syncing to. Even the human vocal instrument is totally eliminated.

I just don’t get the impression that these artists even care about trying to reproduce the sound while performing live when it seems they are primarily concerned about stimulating the visual sense.

I’ve been wondering why James hasn’t been listed when posting album sales lately. If he is selling 1600 physical CDs per week, why hasn’t he been listed in Manfield’s album count? Afterall, the other Idols are listed that are selling around 1,000.

I have no idea.  I wondered that myself.

Never mind….Pam just answered the question in another thread. We should move this conversation over there. She said his figures didn’t show up in the BB200 but showed up someplace else. We should move this discussion to the Idols in Concert thread if we need to continue it.

LOL, Zorro’s expression, that and his sticking ears make him so funny.

I’m hoping the camera will put 10 pounds on Kris, he looks so skinny in that outfit. He looks better in that Henley from the mint, IMO of course.

     To sabbia and thirdtime,

I think that Brian Mansfield only has privy to the numbers of those idols, etc that actually make the BB Top 200 each week, but he has a few contacts that he can get those off the chart from, but some genres are more difficult for him to call in favors.

That would make sense.  Well I guess it’s safe to assume James is currently around 90,000 or so in sales.  That’s probably why they expect him to hit 100,000 soon. If we need to talk about it more, we should move to the stats thread instead of here – before MJ yells at us :)

Is Clay Aiken using Trump’s hair stylist? It’s kind of like he is trying to look cool by spiking up his hair, but it’s just not working for him. Or his hair is not cooperating.

  • http://twitter.com/1WaySTweet Ron Simpson

I’m pretty sure that spiky mess is on purpose. A sort of spiky bedhead.

  • Nele621

I don’t mind spiky bedhead look. He just puts a big ol part in it which looks too weird.

  • Trina

I dont ever remember hearing digital sales isnt counted in Soundscan numbers. I’m pretty sure whatever Brian posts is the exact figure.

Clay has had many hairdos but that spiky look dates back to his AI days. Go back and look at any of his performances or his debut album era, he always wore spiked hair. The bedhead look was the first haircut he got when AI made him over.

He’s certainly one of a kind and totally recognizable with those messy parted spikes. It works for him I guess.

  • Mateja Praznik

Hmm, it looks like Brian May is on San Remo festival tonight …

OMG! I have been looking for any reason whatsoever to avoid doing school work so thought I’d check out Clay’s bedhead spike look that is such a hot topic.

I’ve never watched one minute of the Apprentice but after reading Twisted Sister singer Dee Snider and American Chopper’s Paul Teutul Sr were going to be on, I am not going to be able to stop myself. Those 2 strong-willed personalities in one room is going to be one helluva a set of fireworks to watch!

I don’t think she was referring to Brian’s #s not including digital downloads, she knows his figures include them.  It’s the physical CD sales #s for the past few weeks for James that Pam posted in the stats thread that is throwing her off.  She is trying to figure out how to also get the digital download # since Pam only has the physical CD sales #, for the past 3 weeks since Brian hasn’t posted #s for James.  I think she needs it for another place where she updates James #s.  But I don’t know of any way for her to find out that #, do you?  In other words, Brian had all sales figures up to 1/22 – 83,000 – and Pam has physical CD #s after that but no digital download #s.

Might be the angle of the camera and not Kris.  When I saw him Friday he looked quite good.
