This week’s Idol Billboard Update…right HERE, so you can follow along!

Highlights:

  • Congratulations to David Cook.   “Time Of My Life” takes the #1 position on the Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks chart!   He’s the second American Idol, following Kelly Clarkson to take the #1 position, and the 4th Idol, behind Kelly Clarkson, Kimberley Locke and Chris Daughtry.   It’s the 6th Idol song to reach #1.
  • Jennifer Hudson’s “Spotlight” jumped from 60-41 on the Billboard Hot 100, 46-26 on the Hot 100 Airplay, 8-3 on the Hot R&B/Hip Hop Songs and Airplay charts, 21-17 on the Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop chart.   It holds steady at #3 on the Hot Adult R&B Airplay and from 9-8 on the Hot Dance Club Play Chart.   Thank radio play for her increases. She doesn’t appear at all on the digital download charts.
  • Bucky Covington’s “I’ll Walk” is #10 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles Chart.   If his chart position continues to rise, he could make the Hot 100 in a week or two.   On the Hot Country Songs chart, he moves from 21-20.
  • After being released to iTunes last week, the charity single “Just Stand Up!” featuring Carrie Underwood, shoots up the Hot 100, from 78-11. It debuts at #7 on the Hot Digital Tracks and Songs charts and at #35 on the Hot Adult Top 40 Tracks Chart.
  • Carrie Underwood’s “Just a Dream” debuts on the Hot Digital Tracks chart at #49.   It climbs from 59-54 on the Hot Digital Songs chart, 12-11 on the Hot Country Songs chart, 51-47 on the Hot 100 Airplay and 48-44 on the Hot 100.
  • Jordin Spark’s “One Step at a Time” stays at #17 on the Hot 100.   It climbs from 19-16 on the Hot 100 Airplay chart, 8-7 on the Pop 100, stays steady at #6 on the Pop 100 Airplay, climbs from 7-6 on the Mainstream Top 40, falls 21-22 on the Hot Adult Top 40 Tracks, it climbs 15-14 on the Hot Digital Track chart and 17-16 on Hot Digital Songs.
  • David Archuleta’s “Crush” climbs from 75-61 on the Hot 100 Airplay as it acquires more stations and spins on Pop radio.   It climbs from 26-22 on Mainstream Top 40 and 36-31 on Hot Adult Top 40 Tracks.   It’s currently #32 on the Hot 100.

I hope he finds that Magic Rainbow soon! LOL!

Congrats to Cookie & Archie! This is shaping up to be a great Idol post-season.

    Congrats Cookie!

He’s No.1 on AC Mediabase as well right ?

  • soundscene

Go Cookie and Archie! And Jennifer too! Those are some amazing airplay gains. FWIW, I took the RateTheMusic Top 40 survey today and “Spotlight” was on it–are they releasing it to CHR/Pop?

I’ve been very pleased with the way “Crush” is holding on sales-wise. It’s currently at #20 on iTunes and #7 in Pop, and whenever it seems like new releases are going to push it down (and there have been several new releases that moved into the top 20 on iTunes this past week), it just bounces back up to around the same spot. Very consistent player. I think once the music video is officially released and he’s able to promote, sales and radio airplay should increase more than they have been. All its chart positions this week have bullets btw.

Notably, on the weekly RateTheMusic results, TOML is #1 for the AC format and Crush is #1 for the Top 40 format. Actually, the top 4 spots for Top 40 were taken up by Idol or Idol-like people (Jordin #2, Daughtry #3 and Leona #4). Idol fans know how to take surveys.

Are there no download numbers for Cook this week?

    Congrats Cookie!

    Heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s No.1 on AC Mediabase as well right ?

Yes, he is! You should be proud.

And I’m so happy for David A. as well. Crush is just steadily climbing in the charts.

    Smash it David A.! :)

  • seattle

Cruzceleste, I don’t think that’s our idols, lol.

That listing is for David M. Archuleta. Archie is David J.

And that’s not David Cook’s name either.

  • seattle

Hey soundscene. You’re right about Idol fans and surveys — I took the same survey as you, lol! I made sure to shower the love on Crush (no opportunity to review TOML, but I would have given it high marks too).

I, too, have been pleased to see Crush holding so steady on iTunes. Crush is now almost in balance, where the airply and sales ranks are both in the low 20s. What will be really interesting to see is whether the sales also climb in unison as the airplay numbers continue to go up. Getting back to the very top of the Hot 100 chart is going to require sales and airplay of Crush to climb together at the same rate, as I doubt there will be another massive surge in sales like the first week.

Alright! Go Magic Rainbow! David Cook, you are awesome! The Olympics exposure and the Oprah exposure really helped.

    OK-
So i just got back from the Phil Stacey concert at the Jacksonville Landing (i had meet and greet passes as well as front row seats…yes, i rock i know), for those of you who dont know, both Phil and I are from jacksonville and i love phil stacey.
    his voice is AMAZING
comparing his vocals to blake lewis is a joke in my opinion
    anyways, yeah.

But they also announced tonight that Kristy Lee Cook will be opening up for lonestar two weeks from tonight so im trying to get meet and greet/front row seaters to that one too….mmmm, kristy.

anyways, i need to pass out from the insane amount of alcohol consumed tonight at the boozefest phil was playing at(yes i am 21 now so booya!) he covered a lot of songs he did on ido and from his album…and he played the HELL out of the paino! I HAD NO IDEA HE COULD DO THAT)…but yes, if anybody really wants to see my goofy-as-fuck-pic i got to take with phil ill be glad to share. but for now, IM OUT.

    and mj, i love u.

oh, and ps. i know i like sharing my random ass idol related experiences but i never know where to post them, so i just put it in something random….?

Yeah, I think Crush is taking the nice and easy route up now after that initial surge, and I too hope that the sales figures and airplay continue to rise at about the same pace. It’s top 20 now on Mediabase, which is awesome, and several songs above it are dropping fast, so it’s looking good. Even a little bit of promotion would really help it catch on to a wider audience.

  • cheese

Good job, Magic Rainbow! OK, you can leave now and make way for a real song from DC (which I’m getting really exciting and nervous to hear. It has to be sort of mainstream pop rock, but it can’t be generic, it can’t sound like Daughtry (OK, that was a little redundant), it has to have some sort of quirk to make it stand out, etc. I think there’s a lot of pressure on him to release the “right” song)

“Crush” is doing really well, and, if Jive continues to follow the Jordin model, DA’s next single will probably be a better song with a little more edge (assuming that is even possible when dealing with Archie, lol)

  • frogcooke

About the song writer thing… Even though they arent our idols… I did find it a bit funny that a cook and a archuleta showed up as writers on the same song… lol

  • jpfan

Small correction: “Crush is now almost in balance, where the airply and sales ranks are both in the low 20s”

Crush is #19 on the Top 40 chart but there many different types of radio stations. ITunes includes all genres in its top 100 songs- rock, hip hop, pop, etc.
So on the overall radio airplay charts, Crush is 75 and 20 on iTunes meaning it’s still selling way more downloads than its airplay would suggest.

Random crap belongs in the headlines thread. The top thread is not the random catch-all thread…

Ken Barnes has sales numbers here. He sold 20,000 for a total of 863,000.

That made me spew orange juice all over my monitor :) It’s always a good thing to have a hearty lololol in the morning. Thanks.

I can’t wait to see wait to see if Jordin’s next single is “Freeze”. Love it! Though it’s similar to a Nelly Furtado song from a couple yrs ago I think. Would love to see her sell another couple million with that one! That’d be 4 singles(?) off a CD that ony did 1 million, oddly.

  • Michelle

Freeze is one of my favorite tracks from Jordin’s album. Congrats to her for doing so well with her singles so far!

Awesome to see the Davids doing so well!

  • soundscene

So on the overall radio airplay charts, Crush is 75 and 20 on iTunes meaning ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s still selling way more downloads than its airplay would suggest.

Crush is 61 in the Hot 100 Airplay this week, actually–75 last week. But yes, out of all the songs in the Hot 100 Airplay, Crush does better than most of them in sales. They include songs like “Spotlight” by J. Hud. which doesn’t seem to be selling at all, despite its pretty large airplay. It also includes older songs that haven’t gone recurrent yet, but are a little worn down sales-wise (like “I Kissed A Girl”).

Although comparing the iTunes chart with the airplay charts will always be wonky because there’s no guide as to how to determine how a song should be selling if its getting a certain amount of airplay.
