Agree with most of what you said but making fun of his looks is bullying, not teasing…something that children in kindergarten and up are taught is not acceptable…certainly not professional in my opinion.  Wish people would call them on it while they are on the air having their “fun”.

A lot of DJs don’t like him and don’t play his music.

Its not their personal playlist, its the listeners, so they should respect that.

This^^^.  I am happy for Scotty’s fans – what a fun ride! Happy for the
AI franchise. But I hope Scotty is stocking the money away for the
future because he is not accepted as a true country artist right
    now.  He’s a novelty act.

Actually, he is gaining a lot of respect in the country world. He has already been endorsed by Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, Brad Paisley, Josh Turner, Reba McEntire, Randy Travis, Tim McGraw, Taylor Swift, and of course, Keith Urban. He has already played in the Grand Ol’ Opry twice. He will be singing at the CMA’s. He is nominated for the ACM. He does not need to save his money to be a “dentist.”

I was driving home, listening to my country radio station the other day.
The two DJs were kibbitzing and Scotty came up. Alfred E. N.
allusions.  Chuckling, bantering (and I got a bit grumpy, because heck,
give the kid a break).  Then the inevitable “seems like a nice kid” and
the lady DJ says – soooo young.  More chuckles.  No mention of his music
or his song – which they did play after the talking.  I just think he’s
    got a mountain to climb.

They are taking cheap shots because they know they will never make as much money as him or be as famous as him…its dumb for them to make fun of his looks. If they think he is a nice kid, then why attack him and make fun of him? I don’t understand some people.

But like I said before, its not their personal playlist-they are playing music for the fans.

On the other hand, joking about him, making fun of his looks, etc, could be very harmful.   To those outside the idol bubble or fanbase, it certainly will not encourage them to buy or take his music seriously.  Radio is not giving him much respect, and I frankly think that a good many of those stations really want to see him fail just to prove that they didn’t get it wrong.

Kelly’s single will go gold next week, which is a solid showing. Radio loves her — she is easily the Idol who gets played the most here in L.A. But her last album didn’t go platinum, so it’s probably a little unrealistic to expect big numbers for this album, either.

Scotty’s sales are off to a very good start and it seems like he is being accepted by many if not all of the country radio stations, CMT, etc. These are good signs for his future, I think. But until he comes out with a second album after the “new Idol winner” promo is gone and he is simply another new artist trying to build a career will we start to get a real idea if he will be a true star, or just another in the long line of ex-Idols who are able to make a nice living in the music industry but never really become stars.

You don’t think that DJs make fun of Kanye West, Lady Gaga or Ke$ha?  There’s a lot to joke about with those three, but they keep selling music.  DJs make jokes, especially about artists’ physical appearance, or if something bad or embarrassing happens to an act.  Listeners are used to this, it’s what DJs do.

Exactly. This is just the DJ SOP, nothing more.

besides, I happen to think he’s handsome..& getting better all the time. Those eyes, his smile & that VOICE who could ask for more..Plus a heart of gold..

I agree it completely sucks, it’s no fun to hear an artist you enjoy be mocked by DJs who are so low in the corporate radio power structure at this point that they aren’t even allowed to pick the music they play themselves anymore. But Scotty is a strong kid with a lot of talent, and I think in the long run the DJs will recognize this.

Really pleased to see Florence and the Machine predicted to sell that many albums…

The country station I listen to has never liked Scotty.  They only began to play LLTB when it started moving up the countdown and they pulled it already. They play TTWG once in the early am – I have emailed and emailed.  This morning (durin the lowdown from twangtown) segment, it was mentioned about Keith U surgery and that he was committed to the CMA for Scotty and the DJ made a very demening sound – like “who cares”.  I hope the stations begin to pick up the TTWG since it should be 32 on Sunday’s countdown.

My local country station does not like him either. They never play him anymore. IMO it will be a struggle for Scotty to be played on country radio now that the success of ILYTB and his AI win has died down.

Same here on our local country station.  They played ILYTB when it was really popular, but the DJs made fun of the song.  I haven’t heard anything played of Scotty’s in a long time now on our local station.

I can’t predict the future, but The Trouble With Girls is about to go top 30, so there are stations that are open to playing his music.  Based on the past few weeks, it looks like Clear As Day will have legs, so that combined with Scotty’s ability to sell a song, and draw people in, will get him spins, no matter what PDs, MDs or DJs think about him.
