With 52.67% of reports in, Frozen is easily sliding to its eighth week atop the album charts. That album just keeps going and going like this winter. Maybe Elsa is real?
Shakira may be on the number one television show in the US and occupy a permanent spot in the BB Social Chart’s top 10, but that and $2 will get you a cup of coffee these days. Her album is debuting in a distant 2nd spot with about 75K in sales. Remember when her “Hips Don’t Lie” were killing it back in the day? I feel old.
Speaking of old, Johnny Cash is so old he is actually dead, but that isn’t stopping him from having the number three album. “Out Among the Stars”? Who names these things? Seriously, Johnny Cash was never cutesy and that is too stupidly cutesy. Anyway, it is a release of a bunch of shelved songs from the 80s. Remember that all you stars! If you don’t like a song, you better burn it or one of your heirs is going to release it one day. Just ask Michael Jackson. His heirs are going to flog every song he ever touched even it sounds like absolute drivel. Got to keep the money train going! At least some critics say Johnny’s album is not bad. Yeah, I’m not a fan of posthumous albums. Just ask me how much I like the posthumous “duet” albums!
Pharrell Williams just announced he is the new Voice judge for next season (definitely a massive step up from CeeLo the CreepO), but his album has legs all on its own consistently selling week after week. Dude must never sleep.
Memphis May Fire tricked me. I thought for sure with a name like that they would be Country. But, they are a Metalcore band out of Dallas. Apparently, they used to be called “Oh Captain, My Captain”. I’m curious to hear an explanation of either of those names. They are debuting in fifth. Rapper YG slides from second last week to 6th this week, Christian artist Kari Jobe opens in 7th, Lorde stays in the top 10 at 8th, Eric Church is 9th and Queen B holds on for 10th.
No reality singing show contestant albums in the top 50 (we need some new albums), but Now 49 features X-Factorers 1D and Simone Battle. It is in 13th. Glee has a fraction of its prior selling power debuting in 22nd with their latest compilation.
