HDD – Album Sales Prediction : Nov 19-25

The Black Friday results are in and while it doesn’t look like anybody sold jaw-dropping numbers, we have a very robust chart. With 69.42% of reports in, Rihanna seems to have wrangled her first number one album. This is her 7th album since 2005 and she tends to drop during fairly competitive weeks. I’m just exhausted with her so I’ll say no more.

The second highest debut this week looks to be from none either than our latest Idol winner, Phil Phillips. His “World from the Side of the Moon” is predicted to sell 140-160K and he’s already achieved the lower estimate. How high can he go? He’s been everywhere this past week singing his Idol Coronation song “Home” and possible next single, “Gone Gone Gone”. Perhaps some of the other singing competition shows might learn that keeping your winners in witness protection programs and mentioning their names less frequently than Ronald Weasley says “Voldermort” might not be the best idea.

Speaking of other reality singing competition contestants, there is 1D in third spot. Not bad considering they blew the roof off sales last week and a lot of new heavy hitters entered the fray this week. “Take Me Home” is their second album in 2012 and their first album is still selling well at 27th.

Taylor Swift is in fourth with “RED”, P!NK is 5th, Jason Aldean is 6th, Keyshia Cole is debuting in 7th, Kid Rock is in 8th (he was predicted to be 2nd this week, so whoever is selling his albums best report in today) and Rod Stewart has the Christmas album of the season at 9th.

Carrie Underwood blew people away at the AMAs which helped boost her “Blown Away” album back into the top 10. Right behind her is fellow Idol winner Kelly Clarkson whose Greatest Hits Album is currently debuting in 11th. She’s also seeing a boost in sales for her “Stronger” album which is at 35th. On the AMAs, she did a medley of some of her hits. Rounding out the Idol winners is Scotty McCreery and his Christmas album at 19th. Let’s see, that makes 5 albums from Idol winners in the top 50 (well 35) this week alone. Any other winners from the other shows? Nope.

But to be fair, the British shows do seem to generate marketable artists, even if they aren’t the winners. The aforementioned One Direction dudes and BGT’s Susan Boyle whose fourth album is at 39.

Now, let’s round up the judges. The Voice has Christina (14), Blake (15) and Adam (22). Idol has Nicki (33) and Steven (25,50). X-Factor has Brit (34). I’m going to hand this victory to the Voice since Nicki hasn’t appeared on Idol yet.

Now, for NOW. NOW 44 is now at 13th and features American Idol Kelly Clarkson, Canadian Idol Carly Rae Jepsen, Voice Judge Adam Levine and new American Idol judge Nicki Minaj.

A final mention for Adele who could be topping 10M in sales this week. UNREAL.
