Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Enrique Iglesias was offered a spot on the American Idol judges’ panel:

Sources say Latin singer-songwriter Enrique Iglesias has now received a firm offer for a spot on the reality hit, which may expand to fourjudges next year despite shedding its entire previous panel.

EW.com reported last week that rapper Nicki Minaj and Aussie country artist Keith Urban were poised to join pop diva Mariah Carey on the show, and that Iglesias (or, if he passes, Adam Lambert) could fill a fourth spot. Longtime Idol judge Randy Jackson is set to move to a mentor role. Now we’re hearing Iglesias has received an offer for about $4 million per year, on par with Urban’s deal.

Reportedly, Enrique has a history of turning down reality show offers, including those from The Voice and X Factor. We’ll see if he passes or says yes.

If the $4 million was true, it always seemed low to me. 10 sounds about right.

WOW! Their judging budget  will come in at $35 million without the 4th judge.

And yet, they are still economizing. They famously paid Cowell himself $45M to judge Season of 9 of Idol. And he phoned it in.

$4M Hmmmm perhaps low compared to JLo, Enrique’s co-headliner.

IMO he isn’t worth 10M. I hate country music, but thats where they should have put their money.

I’d say it’s a matter of the Idol PR department playing games to keep the fans on their toes. And they are doing an excellent job of just that.

Well Simon def phoned it in but their ratings were higher then. Compared to last year, they are way over budget.

Keith Urban is huge in country music and also cross-over.  He’s much more valuable as a judge than Enrique.

If they’re not naming the judges yet to drum up publicity, I think it’s an error.
It’s not like when Simon left and people were wondering what an Idol without him would look like. Now with 4 judges, The Voice, XF and Idol are morphing into the same show. ;0

He has a very yummy younger brother Julio Jr. who was on a country reality singing show and won.  Cute as could be, funny, and soooooooo sexy and personality out the wazoo.  He sang a love song to an audience of girls that went nuts and won,  That song was about as country as the Star Spangled Banner lol but John Rich saw dollar signs when the girls went nuts.  He didn’t take off in country and don’t know how he is doing otherwise.  Im not really familiar with Enrique except for the name.

Simon wasn’t the only judge getting paid that year. Ellen was making $5-8M (she really earned  her pay cheque…NOT). Kara got $1M (for driving away viewers) and Randy got paid whatever he gets paid.

So, let’s call it $10M or $55M in total. Ratings didn’t drop 37%

I’m not comparing to Season 9. Comparing to last year. Idol has put a lot on the table this year and there’s no guarantee that the ratings are going up, given the show’s age. For me it’s more about Idol’s negotiating skills. It’s not as if this isn’t a good gig and there were some people like Diddy (and probably Kanye) who put their own names in the hat.

Anyway, I’m not paying it so not my problem.

Yes, but I’m just saying the judging budgets have been much higher than $35M in the past.

Last  year, they got off cheap…And ratings could go up this year.

FFY’s official add day is next Tuesday, but it received 43 adds this week, which made it the most added song this week for Pop. Enrique does not need Idol to promote his new single or his new album.

He may not need it, but it doesn’t hurt, either.  Since the last album was shelved last year, and his previous song didn’t do well in terms of sales, I’m sure that his management feels that he needs to be in the public eye more.

Yes, well I have to agree. Payouts have been higher but, with the exception of Simon, Idol has always had the upper hand in negotiations with judge candidates. This year they wiped the slate clean very late in the game and underestimated the difficulty of placing four judges so quickly.  Imho, they ended up paying out more than they needed to because the schedule was so tight and the coveted people were booked (surprise! surprise!)

These contracts are one year and Idol is back to square one negotiating next year, with these guys or new ones.

I dislike the Voice so much that I hope it tanks in the spring but, without that, I can’t see Idol’s ratings turning around this year. The trajectory is pretty expected for a show this old. In that context, it’s unfortunate to have to pay out more for judges
