David Cook

This show — Jimmy Kimmel Live – Game Show Edition– is being pre-empted for local programing in the Boston market where I live. As if the sports fans here give a crap about Jimmy, Cookie and Obama, as their beloved Celtics are about to take the Championship! Heh. I’ll clip something from Redlasso when it’s available. But in the meantime, you can chat about the appearance here, and I bet you all find video before I get a chance to post it… ETA: I just posted it…

Anyway, for those of you in the Eastern and Central time zones, this show is on now, on ABC stations. Mountain and Central will get the show after the game is over…

Video After the JUMP…

Did he sing at the beginning? I only got in for the last half. From what I saw both David and Obama were adorable in their interviews. :) But did he sing?? David, I mean, lol.

  • spritely

He mentioned his “manager,” first time I’ve heard that. I wonder who it is and who connected them.

    spritely– he didnt sing.
Good interview. Though when Jimmy asked him about auditioning I answered it all myself from memory: Omaha, early, raining, i’m not auditioning, now u are, heh.
And no KC talk. Thank you.
And he talked about the SSB, saying how nervous/scared he was. That he was honored, but pretty much NEVER wanted to do it again, lol.

It was a good show – even the Obama part – pretty funny stuff. The interview was good, too, although I did mute my television during the Omaha audition part. Even Jimmy Kimmel should be able to recite that story from memory.

  • spritely

Oh, Gwendolyn, I’m sorry you muted during Omaha. David did a funny Andrew immitation.

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

Oh did he really, Spritely? Maybe I’ll catch it later on the tube. That’s kinda funny, considering that there was just a video at MyFoxKC in which Andrew pokes fun at David for telling that same story over and over and over again. :laugh_tb:

  • ginger012

Im not sure why David has to go on all these tv shows..its been nothing new.. Im starting to worry that he is being over exposed… Glad he didnt sing TOML..why dont they let him sing Dream Big? that was such a great song….

  • spritely

lol. Ashanti had trouble with the first few notes of the SSB, too. Ooo, cringe, awful ending. David’s straight-forward version is looking a whole lot better. :)

    ::Go, Paul Pierce!::

Edited, because even after watching Paul Pierce play ever since he was at KU, I still can’t spell his last name.

  • spritely

That *is* funny, Gwendolyn. Maybe Andrew’s funny dig loosened David up for a return jab. Ha! I love the brothers.

  • AInoob

I really want to know what Jimmy said that was bleeped out.

  • baxter

Bet the reason he did this show was the demographic it more than likely pulls…..MALES!!!!! Esp in the 18-35 age range. Never hurts to get exposure to potential new listeners and fans. Not to mention DC just got huge national PRIMETIME exposure on ABC.

  • jan

Im not sure why David has to go on all these tv shows..its been nothing new.. Im starting to worry that he is being over exposedà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ Glad he didnt sing TOML..why dont they let him sing Dream Big? that was such a great songà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.

Except for avid fans – no one is watching ALL these shows – or probably even more than one – and I’m willing to bet that there are many people who haven’t seen any of these shows.

And you can bet the label wants him singing TOML first and foremost – that’s the price you pay – even after an album comes out – the label will probably pick songs to focus on for shows.

  • Kulas

Love the Mandy Moore thing :)

    Its here already!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3mUAKQcCrNA

  • spritely

baxter, good point about the MALES. I’m thinking of my son who refuses to take idol seriously, but who was, I’m sure, watching Kimmel tonight before the game. And what did he see? A guy around his age, with the same scruff he has, and being cool and funny and not full of himself. Maybe it’s just as well David didn’t sing TOML tonight, lol. I love it, but it might not be the best song to sell DC to that demographic, heh.

  • AInoob

    “I’m a baller, son” – LOL

  • wfowfowfo

I agree he did a great job with this interview. Jimmy Kimmel’s got the male audience, so it sure can’t hurt. Jimmy gained popularity on The Man Show — which I hate to admit I ever watched. Mr. Wfo enjoyed it and I caught a few, unfortunately, being in the same house. Somewhere Cook mentioned that he was a fan — so there you go. I’m sure it was yet another thrill on his fast growing list.

Kimmel did a great interview with Obama too — the whole show was entertaining.

    Go Celtics!

  • http://inkdbylilyanna.com carolina

Well, if no one is watching these shows then who are the fools who provide mega-advertising dollars for every commercial of these shows no one watches?

  • Trina

This might have been my favorite interview he’s done so far. I really like Jimmy overall so that probably helped. He definitely does have a large male audience. Hubby has loved him since the Man Show. Cookie was very charming! That laugh of his is infectious.

He mentioned his à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“manager,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ first time Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve heard that. I wonder who it is and who connected them.

I’m assuming his manager is through 19E.

  • http://www.myspace.com/chachithegreat chachi

    à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m a baller, sonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ – LOL

LOL. That was a great interview, despite the fact that I’m not a huge Kimmel fan and the rainy 5:30 story. I missed it in real time, so thanks for posting, mj!

  • http://MySpace.com/HawaiiSweetCookie 808DCslave

MJ, today I just signed up for your site. And not 3 minutes afterward, you managed to post the Kimmel interview! I will be returning here repeatedly, for sure.

Loved the interview. David is looking more and more relaxed and in his happy place every time I see/hear him. Just when you think it’s not possible, he is … more so, of everything. Good for him!

  • sleepyinsomniac

Despite a repeat of the audition story, that was really amusing. This guy really gives great interviews. AI should thank its lucky stars that the public chose such a charismatic winner that could garner AI more respect from the more snotty viewing public.

  • abigail

MJ I am new to alot of this blogging stuff but my world has changed since David Cook arrived! On one of your articles people were commenting with alot of statistics on how his songs are doing on the charts, going Gold in near future etc. Where can I trackdown this info on him? My husband thinks I have lost my mind and I am pretty sure I have:)

Thanks for all the great info on your site. I just cannot get enough of this guy – he is contagious for about million reasons……….

  • lili

I can’t see the interview right now. Can someone please tell me what David said about Mandy Moore?

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

    Re: Mandy Moore

He only referenced a comment he made about Mandy Moore when the producer was interviewing him. He has said before that she thinks she is “immaculate”, but he’s not particularly a fan of her music. Jimmy Kimmel asked if he’d ever met her, and he has not.

  • ginger012

Jan, I understand what you are saying…I have seen every interview…Honestly I never really got into TOML.. I wish I downloaded Analog Heart before it was taken down so I can have something different on my ipod!!

  • skylight1219

I actually like Jimmy Kimmel. His show was almost canceled at one time, and, I’m glad that it wasn’t.

  • Layla

What a great interview! He is so bloody charismatic. Great reception by audience.
Yeah…avid fans can recite the whole Omaha-rain-5:30- in- the morning story in our sleep, but the talk shows he’s been on target different demographics and I’m sure the casual viewer hasn’t heard the story.
And his adding the part where he mimics Andrew was really funny.

As someone pointed out, a lot of young guys watch Kimmel so this was great exposure. Too bad he didn’t rock out My Hero on the show…sure would have garnered some interest form the young males who watch Kimmel!

  • Jolene

I’m so happy he did the interview. I was sure we were going to get another version of TOML, and while I’ve grown to love that song, I wanted to hear Cookie banter with Kimmel more.
This was a great interview. Yeah, we got a variation of the Omaha story again (Now with Andrew impersonation and extra Mandy Moore), but he was altogether funny, charming and charismatic. Thank you mj for posting!

  • Thea

So he was on the show the same night as Obama? I wonder if they met!

  • http://stores.ebay.com/BookWomanBlues-Book-Nook Bobbi

I don’t think Obama was actually there, Thea.

  • Thea

oh thank Bobbi- I had read that somewhere.

anyway, quite good interview. the boy has a quick wit :)

  • Maxxane

    Great write up on DC…

    Multiple Verses

  • erennick

Yeah, great interview! It’s interesting to see how much more savvy he has become. And, I am glad that he knows enough not to sing the NA again. Heh.

  • cakeymakeybakey

I could be wrong, but I could have sworn I read somewhere that Skittles (“Taste the Magic Rainbow”) is being managed by “Simon Fuller, the same manager as Posh Spice” per the quote. He’s a big enough star that Simon would take this one on himself…

  • Thea

Thanks Maxxane for the link – really beautifully written.

  • carrie13

David Cook and Mandy Moore. What could be better? I hope someone sets this up.

David Cook and Mandy Moore. What could be better? I hope someone sets this up.

I would love to see his reaction to this. He seemed stoked enough about the autographed picture. I think just a friendly meeting could be a possibility. He does manage to throw her name out there when he has a chance. :laugh_tb:

I read that too. I can’t remember where, but I do believe it was a reliable source, becuse I remember people accepted it as fact.
Hopefuly someone knows where that info came from.

PS – This interview with David was posted on TWoP. I love DC with kids, so cute!
    Kidsday Interview

  • Michelle

Thank goodness, he finally learned the right answer to the relationship questions :)

  • Layla

    Thanks Jolene,

I love the “kidsday interview. He really is so natural with kids.

  • Pam

One of the DJ’s from Q102 in Cincinnati was kind enough to post the interview he did with DC on DC.org forum last night. This interview was a really good one and not as predictable as some of the others.

Here is the link to the interview.

  • reinharv

I don’t think he’s getting overexposed on TV at all. It will be sometime before he gets his album out and if he’s out of sight, he’s out of mind.

This is a perk for being a winner versus runner-up–more exposure.
David Cook has to “promote” his single and when his album comes out–he’ll do that too and then we’ll hear the same stuff again.

A lot of people don’t watch AI and just because David Cook fans try to catch almost everything about him, and it may be stale news to us, it is news to other people. Men might walk through and roll their eyes when their wives, girlfriends are deep into watching on Tuesday night, but they don’t sit down and watch the whole thing (unless KLC was on…legs…). Men do however watch sports and get themselves comfortable in their easy chair with a beer in one hand, a snack in the other…they are tuned in watching the right channel and lo and behold–they catch the end of Kimmel–and David Cook is on and they think “oh, that the rocker dude my wife has a crush on….” Lots of sports talk, baseball, basketball, chicks (Mandy Moore)–males bonding…. :drunk_tb:

The point of this was to get this message across:
    1. Gee–you weren’t there to audition for Idol (for those who think Idol is cheesy as they parade all the weirdos through….interspersed with people who show potential)
    2. Gee–though you didn’t intentionally want to audition, you landed up getting 11 singles in the top 100 and the only other “person” who has even done that was the BEATLES.–a RECORD. (YOU MUST BE GOOD)
    3. Oh, by the way–Cook is going on tour (husband might surprise her and buy tickets, but that’s okay–he’s a rocker, a joc, so that’s cool–I wont’ be embarassed).
    4. Oh, by the he put out a single…go download it.

    LOL

  • spritely

Pam, thanks so much for that interview. I can well believe what he said about how it “feels like three years” since he tried out for the show.

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

    Agreed, Reinharv. He’s a man’s man.

  • bluegreen

I had him picked because his performances were so consistently good. And it’s a bonus that in interviews, he’s just as consistently nice, mature, at ease, low-key, all that cool stuff. He’s got his head on straight and that will help him a lot in this business. Good guy.

In fact, having your head on straight may be equally important to having talent in this business! You gotta be able to see things as they are and put it all in perspective.

This is the one year I really think everyone will get along on that tour bus.

The two Davids and Jason Castro are the three whose albums I can’t wait to download.

  • Thea

Pam- thanks for the link to the Cincinnati interview.

It was great to hear that RCA is “letting him make the record he wants”.
DC is talented, and smart, and if he can make HIS record, using all the help and opportunities RCA can provide… WOW :clap_tb:

  • Patchchat

And this is someone’s example of no personality? Rubbish! There’s personality seeping out of this man and I love it!

  • abigail

    Great radio interview!

And to address the issue of “no personality” the article in Entertainment Hotline and a viewers comment hit the nail on the head……..I’ve come to the conclusion that British men (Cowell and Nigel) don’t know how to identify when another man is sexy unless of coarse the Brit is gay then he would see the unbelievable sex appeal David Cook has and the best part he doesn’t even know the effect he has on women all over the world. The men don’t know but the little girls understand -love it!

I also love in this article when it states we are waiting to crown him the next Rock legend. She goes on to state that from the birth of rock, women have always been responsible for anoiting rockers to the status of legends.

  • Trina

    I figured this belongs here
    http://news.yahoo.com/s/eonline/20080618/en_celeb_eo/bdc24898_a45c4591_a7b8_8dcee070748e

According to Variety, ABC’s decision for the early extension was due in part to the success of Jimmy Kimmel Live Game Night, a series of six half-hour specials running in conjunction with the NBA Finals in which only the crà ¨me de la crà ¨me of guests are featuredà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ most recently, Barack Obama and David Cook.

The specials averaged roughly 3 million viewers, almost double that of his late-night audience.

That’s one crà ¨me de la crà ¨me Cookie.

  • spritely

Wow, that yahoo mention. You know what’s also interesting about that article? They just say, “David Cook,” without mentioning Idol, as if everybody will know who they’re talking about.
