Check this out. I have no words. Really I don’t. If you’ve got any, please post them in comments.

The farmer who created this, uhm, interesting and unique tribute to David Archuleta wanted to use a presidential theme, but he didn’t care for either candidate. So, “Archuleta4president” it is!

If anybody visits the maze in person, give us a shout out…

Video after the JUMP…

That’s really, really (really) bizarre. Hell, I even thought the Cook mural was a little weird, but this FTW!

  • ianamy

    that’s a large field! Amazing!

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

Someone has too much time on his hands.

  • tinawina

    Wow. LOL. Just wow.

  • Duke

    totally
    freaking
    awesome

David Arkaleta!!!- haha waaay to go news anchor guy who lives under a rock.

this makes me draw comparisons to S2 with the fan obsession to Clay (both runner-up)- i think for some reason DA has the 2nd most rabbid fans next to Clay.

  • ptslittlecomment

Let’s see .. . . what award was it that Archie’s fans won recently? :surprise_ee:

  • gingerly

    ummmm yeah, what they said.

  • ianamy

    http://www.heraldextra.com/content/view/282040/17/

    lol, look at David’s comment:

“My experiences after Amrican Idol have taken me all around the country and I’ve seen a lot of cool and exciting things,” said Archuleta. “It’s great to have another special memory to add from my home state of Utah.” The maze which is located at Thanksgiving Point in Lehi and will be open to the public from September 26 through November 1. Hours are 4p.m. – 10p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 10a.m. – 11p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Closed Sundays.

    Do we need tickets?

  • http://mjsbigblog.com lucyfan

I posted in the Headlines thread already, but…..yep – all kinds of creepy. WTF?

  • Sarah

I guess my word would be … corny! A-maize-ingly so. Sorry.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

I found the video this afternoon, so I thought I’d pull it out of headlines. LOL.

  • IGetCranked

I honestly don’t think it’s that weird since this guy does (I believe) these mazes every year. Look at the big fan turnout that Archie had at his homecoming and AI concerts. If this man is wanting business, then Archie is the hot item in Utah right now. NOW IF, it was just a random fan showing his devotion… then wayyyy different reaction from me!

Where I live, we have corn mazes and pumpkin farms at this time of year to visit and it’s really fun! (not to mention all the yummy food) Maybe this is why it isn’t so shocking to me.

  • maturin

I’m going to do this for Cook, only using beer cans.

In someone else’s yard. It’s gonna be a long night!

  • mac

So when the corn dies, they are going to just plow it all up….and plow up David’s face? Ouch!

Agree with everyone else. Just too weird. I think even the aliens that are watching us from outerspace are looking down at this and saying WTF?

  • J

I think it’s cute, but this is what made me laugh

    MJ’s

    Child(ren) of the Corn

    and Sarah’s

    corny! A-maize-ingly so

  • http://mjsbigblog.com lucyfan

Good point, IGC. Let’s hope the guy’s just trying to make some money. Otherwise….creepy.

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m going to do this for Cook, only using beer cans.
    In someone elseà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s yard. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s gonna be a long night!

maturin, OMG – you are too funny! :lol_tb:

  • bjames

that would freak me out SO much if i were him.

  • Michelle

That’s amazing. Is there some sort of corn-maze graphic/tractor software out there?

I gotta love little d’s official reaction. He’s learning to deal with the press, sniffle/wipe tear… ;)

  • jenniewdc

Bizarre and hysterical. And a pretty good likeness. I too enjoyed Archie’s official reaction.

  • mac

Thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s amazing. Is there some sort of corn-maze graphic/tractor software out there?

By golly, I looked it up on the internet and there is!

Corn Maze Design kit Everything is so high tech now. GEEZ. GPSs, computers, software etc.

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m going to do this for Cook, only using beer cans.

    In someone elseà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s yard. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s gonna be a long night!

maturin, LOL, you better follow these instructions first though (just substitute “beer cans” whenever it says “corn”)

  • IGetCranked

Thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s amazing. Is there some sort of corn-maze graphic/tractor software out there?

I don’t know how they do the giant picture ones but my friend’s parents who owned a pumpkin farm used to make a new maze every year. They did it all by hand and hard work. They’ve since retired and I miss it.

Ok, I’m going to ramble a minute because this is a love of mine… I worked every year at my friend’s family farm and it was JUST SO beautiful! Picture rows and rows of pumpkins and cornocopias and pots of flowering mums everywhere with peacocks (real ones ) in the background. Then the homemade ghouls and ghosties hanging from all the trees OH and shiny jars of fresh honey that came from all the pumpkin blossoms and the fish pond with the waterfall… painting pumpkins and being astounded at people being excited to buy your “creation”!!! …. sorry for being so OT *slinks off*

  • Layla

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m going to do this for Cook, only using beer cans.

    In someone elseà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s yard. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s gonna be a long night!

This cracked my shit up!!! :eek_wp:

Whenever I feel I’m getting to fangirly over DC, I will think of this and relax.

I find DA fans over the top sometimes, but this is just freakin’ hysterically funny to me.

  • sabby_rina

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m going to do this for Cook, only using beer cans.

HAHAHAHAHA! Now that gave me a big chuckle!

LOL I can see Archie going, “Really?! That’s pretty neat, but why a maze of me?!”

  • jenniewdc

IGC — Thanks for such a beautiful ramble!

  • CRB

The Archuletites always assured me that there was more to the kid’s fan base than a mass of hormone driven teeny boppers and I guess this Archie crop maze adds at least one very strange 38 year-old Utah farmer to the mix. It seems a bit creepy to me, although I’m sure Herbst is pandering for the ducats. Corn mazes are pretty cool, in general, though.

  • LK08

MJ- I live 10 minutes from this and know something about this business- and it is BIG business, so I don’t find it at all bizarre. I will post the link to the business, as well as some info for it. These corn mazes are amazing and very fun. Also, if you know that Utah was huge Mitt Romney territory (republican presidential candidate), you would understand why this man isn’t really that crazy about either presidential candidate, thus DA was an easy choice for this year.

Brett Herbst is wealthy from doing these corn mazes. Check it out.
    http://www.cornbellys.com/index.php

Here is a blurb from the website:

“When Brett Herbst, a Brigham Young University agribusiness graduate who grew up on an Idaho farm, launched his first corn maze in 1996, he drew most of his knowledge and motivation from his roots. The idea sparked by a similar venture he had read about in a farming magazine, Brett’s original labyrinth in American Fork, Utah was the largest corn maze created in the western United States. It didn’t take long for news of the “corny” attraction to spread and after drawing 18,000 people in only three weeks during the fall of ’96, The MAiZE was born.

Thirteen years later, The MAiZE has grown into the world’s largest cornfield maze company. Now à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ 1,200 mazes, a Guinness record and five countries later à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ we’ve seen millions of people around the world get lost in our corny creations.”

  • http://mjsbigblog.com lucyfan

Awww, IGC. Loved that post. You’ve got me feeling all “fallish” and stuff now. I’m gonna buy some pumpkins on the way home. :-)

  • ianamy

    http://wcco.com/video/?id=47969@wcco.dayport.com

Here’s another news channel covering the maze story. Apparently visitors have the chance of get an autographed David CD coming Nov11.

  • gabam

I love mazes. People make huge mazes all over the world. This farmer did a good job, IMO. Archie should be honored. The farmer will get tourists and others to visit. Win-win.

Maybe it’s the picture, but so far I can’t figure out a way to complete the trip through the maze. Now I will use up too much free time trying to do so. LOL.

  • Patchchat

I’m an urban kid…very little corn growing around me…but I can appreciate more rural living and the things rural living people do.

However, this does still creep me out. Maybe it’s too crop circle-y (aliens and all that), but what I really think is that David has a large scale stalker.

  • Laurie

Hey IGetCranked, I grew up in the midwest and I can relate to your memory. (and that is a nice memory!) We always had stuff like this in the fall where I grew up and families loved this sort of thing!

I don’t really think it is creepy because they do something like this every year. I think it is sort of cute and flattering to DA. David’s creativity has brought out other’s creativity! And we all know David A has the most fanatic fans!

The post about the beer can maze is hysterical!

  • eliott.lieberman

The wonders of GPS! The technology behind how this is done is actually pretty cool.. and yay for the Archuleta promotion!

    http://fansofdavid.com

  • IGetCranked

LK08 Thanks for the info! That’s what I was thinking it was and heck, it’s bringing Archie a tiny bit more promotion! LOL

jenniewdc ,lucyfan, andLaurie Thanks! It’s just so peaceful and happy at places like that!

Maybe ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s the picture, but so far I canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t figure out a way to complete the trip through the maze.

I would probably get all hung up in his nostril or something.. ewww :blink_tb:

I’m still cracking up….this is the funniest thing I’ve seen all week!

  • Sarah

but what I really think is that David has a large scale stalker.

    large scale stalker. Love it!

Actually, it’s true that mazes can be really big during the fall, and the businesses often choose a topical subject each year. David certainly fits that bill.

  • LK08

Hey someone should contact Brett Herbst about doing one of Cook next year. He already has 5 corn mazes in Missouri. It could have him with a guitar. If you go to the website I listed above, you can go to every state and click on the cities and see the different mazes. Some of them are made for businesses, some for people, and some for events. Pretty Cool. Somewhere I read an article where Brett Herbst was saying they had a real challenge working with JIVE to get a design approved. I guess you have to protect the brand.

Here’s an article from a local paper with a flyover video. http://www.heraldextra.com/content/view/282040/17/

  • Michelle

Corn Maze Design kit Everything is so high tech now. GEEZ. GPSs, computers, software etc.

WOW. I was half kidding! There must be some money in these maze things.

Anyway, very cool for Archie :)

  • Autumn

4 President???? That’s the weird part 4 me, couldn’t he have been a bit more creative or realistic?? :rolleyes_wp:

Otherwise, great gimmic, great idea, good business smarts……(and good for DA!) :biggrin_wp: If this were anywhere but Utah I would worry!

  • soundscene

What David officially said: à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“My experiences after American Idol have taken me all around the country and Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve seen a lot of cool and exciting things. . . Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s great to have another special memory to add from my home state of Utah.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

What David might have unofficially said: “Uh… huh huh huh… ok. That’s, um… yeah. Huh huh huh. I’m… yeah. Corn. Hmm. (pause… furrowed brow… pause) But I’m not even old enough to vote for the President.”

  • kathrynTX

soundscene, you’re making me snort water out my nose! I knew the maze thing was an “official” thing, wherever they make them. I kinda like the Archuleta 4 President sentiment myself haha. Get it? haha.

LUCYFAN check the Light On thread AGAIN for more info…OT, sorry!

  • proudmom

Creepy? Huh? Odd, sure, but creepy? Corn mazes are often done of famous people. David A. is big right now, and is from Utah, so to me, it seems like a natural choice for a Utah farmer to make a David A. corn maze. A farm here in Arizona has done corn mazes of Oprah, Larry King, Steve Nash–a different famous person every year, so I personally don’t buy the “creepy” line. And the “for president” part–a bit of humor. In my opinion, it’s commercial. God bless America! :thumbup_tb:

  • Suzanne

Weirdest about this is that it’s when he sang Think of Me . . . over 12 acres . . . and recognizable as that specific performance. Whoa.

  • MOMster

must be a trend … here’s another corn maze, this time in Ohio – of Sarah Palin!
    http://www.toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080925/NEWS17/809250287

  • dante

LOL – what a fun thread to read!

I am from midwest so I think it is really cool except for the “4 president” part.

I can just imagine Archie shaking his head when he first heard about this. What an education this young guy has had this last year!

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m going to do this for Cook, only using beer cans.

    In someone elseà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s yard. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s gonna be a long night!

Hey GetCranked, where I live we do those types of things too (plus the famous Lettuce Festival). Fall and winter are the best time of year here for being outdoors. I think Archie’s tribute is funny but kinda cool. Maturin – really funny – please post a pic of that when you are done.

  • cruzceleste

    LK thanks for the link….
It may not be the tribute that you will do normally, but is cool…
I bet the guy gets lots of visits this year… and you gotta love Archie ´s reaction… he is just tu cute for works…

  • Tatiana

Heehee corn mazes are fun! I went to a haunted one in Iowa one year for Halloween. It was great. Boo!

ahh there is a new vid up on Archie’s myspace – behind the scenes of his photo shoot!

  • cruzceleste

Well, to be honest, uberfans of any stripe creep me out a wee bit to begin with but apparently this Brett Herbst is more of a mercenary than anything else. His use of the likeness of a minor child, albeit a “celebrity”, to line his pockets under the guise of it being a tribute to Archie is a bit much.

I like the beer can idea though. Perhaps our artistic tribute to Mr. Cook could be assembled on a site adjacent to the Cornuleta tribute and we can “water” Mr. Herbst’s crops when the urge strikes us. :flush_tb: God Bless Beer, too!

  • ggdoorsfan

If you stay up all night, casting a total of 96 million votes and text messages for contestants on a reality based singing competition, and buy thousands of copies of songs about magical rainbows and an ode to a soft drink – YOU TOO MIGHT BE AN UBER FAN!! hahahahahah :lol_tb:

  • cruzceleste

LOL Vulture comments on the Corn maze… :clap_tb: (I love Vulture) :wub_tb:

In another news, jk, this was video about David Archuleta for president:

    The David Archuleta Phenomenon:
    http://www.news3online.com/index.php?code=9T2Z1RSt4uW6I3vt5160

    Hehehe really funny

  • LK08

CRB- I think David thinks it is great. Minor child- give me a break. I am sure that you would have loved people saying that about you when you were turning 18 in a few months. His fans LOVE it and what an honor to make a tribute to David.

Good for Brett Herbst for using his brains to invent things that not only make people happy but make him a good living as well.

  • LK08

I don’t like it when Vulture is mean!

Seriously, this is the most LOLarious thing I’ve seen all week.

  • CRB

The first comment at Vulture made me laugh though…

I have no idea why I thought that was Obama.

I think this is awesome. Amazing how some one can do some thing like this.
David Archuleta is some one to keep your eyes on. He is going to be the best thing that ever came out of AL.

  • Natasha

    Wow. I’m kinda speechless myself.

Archie is a modest guy so I have to wonder what he really thinks about seeing his face on a cornfield or whatever it is. I hope no one gets lost in there.

  • tricia56

    It is corny!!

Takes all kinds. Ones who can see Russia from their house …………….and ones who do this!!

    Seriously!

His use of the likeness of a minor child, albeit a à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“celebrityà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ , to line his pockets under the guise of it being a tribute to Archie is a bit much.

lol. You do realize that he has to negotiate with Jive regarding the usage of David’s likeness, right? At the same time, all the news about the corn maze is free publicity for David and his upcoming album in November (coincidentally the maze is open till Nov). Visitors will get a signed copy of the CD by lucky draw.

If this is not a joint promotion, what is? Poor Archie is not being used. He is using it.

  • stacy

LK08, we must be neighbors! I live 10 minutes away as well. We have a family pass to Thanksgiving Point (where the maze is).

Every year the maze has a different image in it, it is a huge attraction. All of my friends were super excited about it (and they aren’t even teeny boppers).

They would joke… now you really can get lost in his eyes

I, myself, do find it a little creepy.

  • LK08
  • LK08

Stacy- I live to the east of Thanksgiving point by the AF Canyon in Cedar Hills. Where do you live?

If you start thinking about going through body parts, it IS a little creepy, but these corn mazes are a blast, and they even have spooky things in it at night around Halloween.

  • IGetCranked

Hey GetCranked, where I live we do those types of things too

*hugs you* Somebody understands meeee! LOL

In all reality, this has gotten Archie a lot of press today. It’s been mentioned in tons of news outlets. I think he wins the award for most creative press!

*runs off to help maturin with the Cook maze*

  • sunchick

I was gonna try to say something amusing about the movie Signs and an alien race of Archies, but I don’t think I can top the beer can Cook maze. LMAO :drunk_tb:

  • ggdoorsfan

The David Archuleta Phenomenon video spoof is 100 kinds of WIN!!! Score! one for creativity in advertising… I agree with ianamy about the free publicity – Team Archuleta using it instead of the other way around. Every community and culture has traditions that are fun, bind them together and aren’t always understood at first glance – hay rides, Easter egg hunts, medieval Renaissance festivals et al… corn mazes in Utah and elsewhere doesn’t seem all that strange or terrifying…

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/iamthepurplewalrus purplesmile

    Haha! Awesome. Go, Archie! LOL

  • sailormoon

I’ve never been in a corn maze…but getting lost in David’s would be cool…oops, did I just say that?!

  • LK08

By the way, on Hannity and Combs (foxnews) last night, they were talking about a Sarah Palin corn maze somewhere and also showed David Archuletas. Cool!
