You can either get angels when you pre-order it, or just buy angels without pre-ordering. Deluxe also comes with the Crush music vid.

totally can not wait for this!. I already preordered lol and got a seperate copy of Angels. Loving the falsetto!

This is exciting stuff…this is going to be a big album for David and I really think his fan base will continue to expand because of this. Plus, Angels is incredible!

So why do they have “Angels” as the song to download now with the album pre-order? Is Angels going to be the next single?

Drive more sales, I presume. It’s a well-loved song by many AI fans, not just Archies. Many would probably want to replace their cheapo studio recording for something better in quality (and IMO a better recording by Archie).

I just pre-ordered albums. “Angels” is, as always, beautiful. I’m very emotional now. I’m so proud of him.

Let me get this straight… The pre-order bonus is “Somebody Out There.” Does that mean that if I were to miss the window of opportunity of preordering before the drop date of Nov. 11, then that song will no longer be available any where? After Nov. 11, the deluxe CD will contain only 15 songs instead of 16?

No there is a regular version without the bonus tracks available also.

Latest “rumor” from Rickey’s is that one of the bonus tracks was completely written, i.e. words and music, by David. Perhaps the “special” bonus track Jeff has talked about.

I can’t believe that grown ups like us can’t wait until the release date. I feel like I’m 5 years old and poking at the Christmas packages to see if they’ll give up their secrets before Christmas morning. LOL!

Highly anticipating November 11 and 18 of this year…….significant dates for 2 artists I admire the most………Go Davids!

“Angels” won’t be a single–I’m almost positive of that. I think the fact that they’re offering it now is a sign that it’s not going to be a single, but a bonus for fans (who are the people they most expect to pre-order now). It’s a well-loved version of the song, and this version is 100x better than the AI quick-production version with the jingle bells. Oh, and the ending is… guh… man, that kid can sing. Kinda hard to believe he can do that live too.

As to why the didn’t offer “Crush,” I think the answer is simply that they probably don’t want to mess with the total number sold. They know that some people will choose to “complete my album” come November 11 (I won’t, I’ll just get another copy of Crush), and that will reduce Crush’s total number sold, but I think they want to keep that at a minimum since the song will likely go platinum that week. It’s just easier all around to not have to subtract too many from the total.

And I can’t believe he’s giving us seventeen tracks. lol. It’s like Christmas (except I’m paying for my own gift).

PS: The Deluxe Version of the album hit #24 in Pop in the US after 3 hours, and #24 overall in Canada in the same amount of time. Not sure if it can top those HSM kids, though.

I must say, Angels was not really one of the tracks I was looking forward to. I tend to prefer David singing this song live. But he surprised me. The vocal on the track is different, again. LOL. Not radically different. But the song has a soaring quality. It’s starts off quiet and restrained and then it grows beautifully. His vocal matched with the production really works. I listened to the song several times in a row just to hear his voice. And all over again I was reminded, “Man, this kid can sing.” Bravo, David.

Def a little rock vibe to Angels. Maybe seeing Led Zep and Queen on his favorite cuts lists should have tipped us off. I think I still like it sung live with a piano better but I do like the fact that he’s full of surprises. Jive now has a viable teen idol who can actually sing like Josh Grobin and make songs that get played with Chris Brown. Lucky Jive.

I’m still waiting to hear Archie’s U2 and Bob Marley songs before I make any buying decisions. I haven’t heard anything I’ve particularly liked so far (his vocal is lovely on Angels but I don’t like that song in general). For me, it will probably be like Jordin’s album. I just finished downloading and listening to à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Angels.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬  It really is so way better than the AI studio recording. The small snippet we got from the RateTheMusic.com does not do it justice. I love Davidà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s liltingly fluid runs and the hint of R&B he injects into some parts of the song. His voice just soars!

By the way, for me not only did I get à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Angelsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬  to download immediately but the Crush video downloaded as well. I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t believe it was mentioned anywhere that that would happen. Was it the same for you guys? Essentially two awesome songs plus a video just from preordering. How kewl is that?!!!

Digital sales are better for the label and artist. Generally, labels, after packaging deductions, etc, have a 5-6$ income figure per physical CD. Digital is consistently 70% of sales price. The artist will make, probably, 15-18% of what the label gets. In the end, digital sales are cheaper for the customer and provide more income for the label & artist.

Suzanne, I preordered several copies of the album from Amazon too. But I canceled it after hearing about the deluxe version at iTunes. I’m sure you or your husband can do the same. Just have him go to his account within Amazon to cancel the order.

There is no physical album from iTunes. Downloads only. It’s pretty simple to cancel an Amazon order. Just do it before they ship. I think the dedicated Idol fans will buy all the iTunes deluxe plus a physical CD. Regular folks will be content with one.

I just noticed that Pink and T.I. have deluxe versions too of their albums. That’s interesting. Pink has 15 songs on hers (actually 14 songs & 1 video) and T.I. has 17 songs & 3 videos!

So Pink and T.I. have the same stuff going on, interesting. I’m no expert but I don’t think either David will see much money from the record deals. Especially since half the promo and video money come from their pockets. The money will be in tours, endoresements, etc. Maybe Archie will see an extra nickel because he didn’t go with 19 for management.

Exactly, jpfan. I, probably along with many other adults, would normally have never given a “teen idol” the time of day, but dang it–the boy can sing!!! For sure, I believe the kid has huge potential and has only scratched the surface of what he can do. I think it’s a major accomplishment that he’ll have so many of his written and co-written songs on the album–not many teen idol types have managed to achieve that on their debut album and his abilities will only get better with age. I already love “A Little Too Not Over You,” so suffice it to say, I’m anxiously awaiting other David-penned songs. I think Jive has struck gold with him–he has the voice, the look, the songwriting talent, the likeability factor, and the die-hard fanbase (of all ages). So yes, lucky Jive.

I listened to the Crush mp3. Hilarious. He’s probably been ridden so hard by vocal coaches his whole life the idea of singing without a warm-up freaks him out. I’m glad he finally let go and did it. That song sounds like a pain in the ass to sing though. He did a great job.

I’m looking forward to seeing where Archie goes with his music in the future, but this album is probably not for me. No one’s voice is good enough to get me to listen to music that I wouldn’t otherwise listen to. It is fun to watch such a nice, talented kid who has obviously meant to do this succeed though.

Where have I been this morning? There’s so much to catch up on. The numbers look great for David’s album. Seems like everyone have already said it all, and better than I could have.

I’m pretty sure it has less to do with pushy vocal coaches as much as he’s a well-known perfectionist. He’s always been a bit self-conscious about his singing ability, so this is probably just another remnant of that. Fortunately, he seems to be getting over those doubts more and more.

And yes, “Crush” is clearly a hard song to sing live, so I can’t really blame the kid for being self-conscious trying to sing it without a warm-up. Heaven knows I wouldn’t be able to touch those high notes–and I’m female. LOL

When you have a voice like David’s, warm-up is very necessary. I mean, he sounds awesome to the population in general, but in order for his voice to be at peak, he needs warm-up. It’s an instrument – any professional would do the same thing.

I can’t get over his graciousness. I actually was a little miffed that they assumed 1. He’d sing 2. The girl could kiss him. He sets boundaries when he needs to, but I felt a little annoyed for him that they assumed this.

Albino – I work for an artist management firm and I’ve seen some iTunes numbers breakdowns. They don’t make much money on downloads at all – their main benefit is if someone uses the iTunes store, it encourages them to buy an iPod (which they have huge profit margins on) as their mp3 player. It’s generally about 70% to label (which the artist takes their royalties from that), 5-10% for mechanical licenses, then 5ish% each for things like electricity, servers & storage, etc. In the end, iTunes themself makes anywhere from 2-10 cents per download (depending on the song). I mean, they sell lots of downloads, but Apple isn’t driving their corporate profits through the iTunes store. The only way an artist is making less money than Apple on a song/album is if they have some kind of horrific royalty deal with their label.

Wow, I’m more of a Cook fan myself, but I was always planning to get Archie’s album for my younger son once it dropped; however, that iTunes deluxe version was too good to pass up on! SOLD!

FWIW, I hadn’t ordered any version of Crush yet, so I only got this new version of Angels with my pre-order (unlike the three copies of “Light On” I ended up with after buying the single and then pre-ordering the new album). So I think if you got extra goodies with your purchase of Archie’s new album, it may have more to do with your previous purchases than the pre-order process itself.

I actually prefer Archie’s AI version of Angels. This new one sounds kind of over-processed to me. I don’t like how they cut the last notes on “affection” and “protection” on the chorus, and I’m not a big fan of melisma in general. But he sounds fantastic on both versions. Kid has an amazing voice. It’s hard not to love him.

So given the large amount of competition for rankings this week (Toby Keith and The Cure are also releasing albums today), #7 may be the highest it can get (it is, after all, just a pre-order).

DAs album charting (at least in iTunes) (Now at #7 overall) within 24 hours from pre-order availability is really good news and Angels being #15 in pop is “awesome”………..its about time this song became popular in the U.S as it was in the U.K……….Robbie Williams must be happy.

The song angels is still showing at #66 on the all songs list, and #13 on pop.

I see the song at #35 at a couple of places in the links I look at, but in the itunes store it’s listed at #66…

Angels is #28 now on iTunes (they go for four hours without an update and then update again in an hour… weird) and #11 in pop.

The album is at #6, but it’s kind of an unfair ranking since P!nk’s album kind of disappeared from iTunes. Not sure why. Technically, with P!nk there it would still be #7.

Soundscene…in the itunes store….in that long list of songs, it shows Angels at #66 still. That is what i was referring to as to a glitch.

The big list in the iTunes application takes *forever* to update. You’re just seeing an old feed (2 updates behind actually). Mine is showing it at 47 still. If you find the most up-to-date rss feed online you’ll see it’s at #28. Not all feeds are up-to-date. In fact, if you use the one with 100 songs, it’ll be behind. If you change the feed to show 98 or 118 songs you may get an up-to-date feed. Like this one:

The #2 and #35 for the album on pop is 2 different versions–the Deluxe is at #2 and the Regular is at #35.

That’s P!nk’s regular album. Her Deluxe version was the one that was at #2 and then disappeared from iTunes.
