Tonight’s the semi-final!

The video packages are a little trip down memory lane as they review their best dances.   In other words, 2 hours = never-ending filler…

Thirty minutes later, and the competition finally begins

  • Gilles and Cheryl60
  • Shawn and Mark -56
  • Melissa and Tony -55
  • Ty and Chelsie48

Gilles and Cheryl got two perfect scores tonight.   I think they’re going to take it all. Shawn and Mark’s Argentine Tango impressed the judges enough to give them a 30, but their Jive didn’t sell the judges 100%.   Both of Melissa and Tony’s dances fell short for the judges–Len loved their quickstep, but Carrie Ann and Bruno both thought it lacked zip. The judges found their Cha cha cha lackluster and a little clumsy.

I think this is the night when Ty and Chelsie finally go home…

Ballroom Round

Melissa and Tony – Quickstep – Wow. That was pretty sensational! Nice finish. Len says, “Great musicality, your feet are much improved, just gorgeous.”   Bruno says, “For me, it wasn’t as exhilarating and crispy and zingy…it didn’t come carry me away.”   Carrie Ann says,   “It was very nice and very pretty…it wasn’t connected to your soul..it doesn’t look like fun…there was a little space in your hold.” Carrie Ann – 9, Len – 10, Bruno – 9 – 28 – 1-800-868-3413

Gilles and Cheryl – Waltz – Nice. Very romantic… Bruno says, “That is how you start a race for the finals…irresistibly romantic…unbelievably beautiful.” Carrie Ann says, “That was breathtaking…it was gorgeous”    Len says, “I’m giving you a sitting down standing O” The judges rave!   Carrie Ann – 10, Len – 10, Bruno – 10 – 30 – 1-800-868-3205

Shawn and Mark – Argentine Tango -Â   Another well-executed routine! This competition is on. Carrie Ann says, “You are our youngest competitor, I worried about you connecting to the emotion…but you delivered. The lifts were incredible..precision is your middle name.” Len says, “A maturity I wasn’t expecting, loved the leg hook…your best performance.” Bruno says made some weird comparison to the Chicago mafia, than said, “That was good.” Carrie Ann – 10, Len – 10 Bruno – 10 – 30 – 1-800-868-3409

Ty and Chelsie -   Viennese Waltz – Ty’s much better with ballroom than Latin, so this isn’t too bad. Len says, “I don’t think anyone has worked harder…to become a dancer…there was a couple of little issues, overall, I thought it was fabulous.” Bruno says, “I do understand why America loves you…it should be smooth and effortless…look at Gilles and look at this performance!” Carrie ann says, “Tonight you struggled…you wobbled around on your turns…”   A fight breaks out between Len and the other judges, before Tom finally breaks it up.   Over Ty? Geez. Carrie Ann – 8, Len – 9, Bruno -8 – 25. 1-800-868-3408

Latin Round

Melissa and Tony -   Cha cha cha -Bruno says, “I like my cha cha full thrust and full on…at times you don’t sustain that energy…you have to keep at that level.”   Carrie Ann says, “Much more attached to the dance…you couldn’t find the size of your steps.   Len says, “I liked it, but not as much as I was hoping to…a little lackluster in places.” Carrie Ann – 9, Len – 9, Bruno 9 – 27.

Gilles and Cheryl – Salsa -   Gilles really shines in the Latin dances. Sexy as always… Carrie Ann -A Big standing O from Carrie Ann, “I want to see you here next week.”   Len says, “I’m almost speechless, I wish I had an 11 paddle.”   Bruno says,   “Little Kim is alive and well and wearing pants…you deserve to be in the finals.” Carrie Ann – 10 Len – 10 Bruno – 10 – 30

Shawn and Mark -   Jive – Loads of fun, and they don’t trick it up.   Len says “Great music, I thought that was fast…fun…but there was too much messing about…I would have liked to see a little more traditional   jive” Bruno says,   “I really like you when you go wild…you sold it 100 percent.” Carrie Ann says,   “I felt that you lost a little steam…still a really wonderful performance” Carrie Ann – 9, Len – 8, Bruno – 9 – 26

Ty and Chelsie – Samba -Â   Ty should never, ever EVER shake his bon bon. That is all. Bruno says, “You threw everything but the kitchen sink in that samba…you lost your footing, but great effort.” Â   Â   Len says, “All too quick, a bit hectic…chelsie you have done a fantastic job Carrie Ann -Â   8, Len – 7, Bruno -8 – 23

I know some people think Gilles is overhyped, but my goodness that was beautiful. I absolutely love to watch him and Cheryl dance. They compeltely deserved three 10s if you ask me. Beautiful. They have amazing chemistry as dancing partners, too.

  • ShariG

Funny to see Melissa’s mom since her parents refused to be on the Bachelor. Kind of funny. She is not one of my favorites, but I love Tony and would like to see him have a win. My money is still on Gilles and Cheryl though.

  • ShariG

They are due to give Melissa a perfect 30. I am enjoying this dancing altogether too much. I can only afford the time for one addiction and AI is it. Thank goodness only a couple of weeks left and my life won’t revolve around these shows.

  • ettacandy

I’m rooting for Melissa and Tony, and generally think they’re awesome…but I actually agree with the judges coments this week. (I know!)

Gilles and Cheryl were the best of the night.

Gosh if Ty doesn’t go home tonight… I will be shocked!!!

  • bean99

I found Gilles/Cheryl’s first dance to be boring so of course they got a 30. I’m starting to get a similar vibe to the pimping they’re giving Adam on idol. I do think the 2nd dance was wonderful and worth the perfect score. I liked both Melissa/Tony’s dances although much say that much as I like Tony, he’s not as good a choreographer as some of the others. Not the best song choices either. I thought the judges were a bit too picky with her. Shawn/Mark’s first dance was very good and the 2nd one was fun even though the judges didn’t like it. Ty really needs to go. He just isn’t at the same level of the others.

I hope the final 2 end up being Melissa and Gilles but it may be tough with Shawn’s fanbase which could be pretty big.

  • ShariG

Bruno is hysterical. I get the biggest kick out of him. Talk about OTT. LOL He is so funny when he gets excited about a dance. I loved, “Lil Kim is alive and well and living in Gilles pants”. Too funny. I love Shawn Johnson. She is a little doll and is technically very good, but Melissa and Gilles really should be in the finals in my opinion. They are both so talented and beautiful to watch dance. It has to do with the long legs and torso, I know as a 5’2″ person myself it is unfair, but Shawn cannot look elegant and ball room dancing kind of calls for that. And as sweet as he is, Ty really needs to go home, although I would love to hear Jewel sing.

  • janerazor

I was happy to get another week of dancing with my TV bullrider boyfriend, and while he has clearly worked hard and has become a pretty darned good dancer, he should go this week. He does hold a frame really well, and I think that helped him loads in his waltz.

Really loved Gilles shaking up the salsa. I was underwhelmed by Melissa and Tony’s quickstep…something felt disconnected there. I actually liked their cha cha cha better. I was only so-so on both of Shawn’s dances this week. The jive felt off to me, and I still say that Mark is overdancing.

  • NYCSlain

OK, u see, this is how u run a show. When u have more performances – U BLOCK OUT MORE TIME. U listening Idol producers??? -sigh-

  • hypertwink

As much as I want Gilles and Cheryl to win (honestly, he’s the only one without a real fanbase when the contest started…unless you count me and a few others who’ve rewound the Sex and the City DVD eleventy jillion times), I think that Melissa and Tony will win. Having Gilles win would screw up ABC’s redemption arc for poor widdle Melissa — the girl who was dumped by her fiance on national TV but would rise from the ashes of her humilitation to triumph in the land of the Glitterball.

  • dbt

Once we got past that first 30 minutes, I really enjoyed this show! I really, really hope Gilles wins. I know Melissa is also good, but she never really shows the emotion or character that Gilles does. And then the biggest thing (for me) is that she’s been dancing since she was a girl (ballet, cheerleading). She already had most of the basic skills .. just needed to learn all the different dances. I MUCH prefer seeing someone who has never danced, come on the show and do well. Gilles … that’s my plug for you. Now, will you dance with ME?

  • http://absinthedreamers.blogspot.com/ Starrlight

Gilles is da bomb. There is no competition in my mind. I love Melissa but damn that man looks like a Pro.

  • http://www.fatladysings.us TFLS

I really like Ty, actually. His sense of humor is killer! And he got pretty good. Just goes to show what commitment and practice can accomplish. He was stiff as a board in the beginning. His bell has tolled, I’m guessing. I’ll miss him, though. He sure was fun!

I like Shawn and Gilles for the final. Melissa is very good – but Carrie Ann and Bruno were right when they said her dancing was passionless. I think Gilles will win (he deserves to). I must say – it took me a whole to associate that funny, gentle man with Samanthaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s sexy neighbor from ‘Sex and the City’. All I have to say is à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s one HELL of a good actor!

  • reeboks1

i actually think shawn has come a long way. she seems so much more…comfortable? less embarrassed? she always had the technical ability but i think mentally she is much better now.

she, chelsie and ty are so funny too. i dont even care about the dancing i just love the videos of them rehearsing.

  • breakdown

I think Bruno actually said Lil’ Kim is alive and well and living in your pants! Gilles FTMFW.

  • KrazeeK120

They are due to give Melissa a perfect 30.

    They did last week.

She is a little doll and is technically very good, but Melissa and Gilles really should be in the finals in my opinion.

I think both of them should (and likely will) be in the finals.

I’m not really sure if I think Gilles is overhyped or some of the others are underhyped. Last night, for the first round, I thought he and Melissa were equally as good (and boring. Heh.), but Gilles got higher scores. He definitely was the best in the 2nd round, however.

I want Melissa and Tony to win for 2 reasons…1. I like Melissa. 2. Tony has never won, and never really had a decent partner since S2.

Also…it makes it really hard for me to root for a couple when I can’t stand one of the partners. I can’t stand Derek Hough or Cheryl Burke, although I have loved their partners this season. I can’t help but think that’s one of the reasons Lil Kim was sent home last week…Derek is such a skeezeball.

  • ohiobofan

I want Melissa and Tony to win for 2 reasonsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦1. I like Melissa. 2. Tony has never won, and never really had a decent partner since S2.

This is why I am pulling for Melissa. She has a great personality and smile and is a great dancer. Really like Gille too. Shawn is great and how can you not like Ty!

  • http://stores.ebay.com/BookWomanBlues-Book-Nook Bobbi

Well, I like Cheryl but I’m pulling so hard for Melissa and Tony! Tony really deserves this – he’s gone through some really difficult seasons on this show. Melissa makes me smile and I’d love to see her get this. I know Gilles is doing very well, but he honestly doesn’t do much for me. Imo, the judges have really been overhyping him and I’m tired of it, actually. Tony and Melissa FTW!

  • Allison

I like Cheryl too – she’s a great dancer, but Melissa is just so good and Tony – he’s had a hard row with Carrie Ann in the past. I’d love for Tony to win. Mark is too frenetic for my taste. Chelsie is adorable and has taken Ty a long way. If Gilles and Melissa made the final two it would be perfect.

  • bean99

Aw, I like Derek but didn’t love Lil Kim. I think all of the 3 who I think should be top 3 have certain advantages:

Melissa: Yes she does have a ballet background and cheerleading so she’s used to training and learning routines however some of the problems she’s having is due to the ballet training. She doesn’t have any more advantage than a lot of previous contestants and less because she doesn’t have the built-in stage presence the actors/performers have. I also think that Tony, much as I like him, isn’t as talented a choreographer as some of the other dancers and I find his routines to be less interesting at times.

Gilles: He may not have a dancing background but he clearly has talent and is a great learner plus he has an excellent choreographer for a partner. Like Cheryl or not, she’s so good at making the best of her partners. What Gilles also has other than smoldering good looks and sex appeal is that he’s also an actor so can sell it. I do think the judges are back to pushing him for the win and feel he’s somewhat overmarked at times although of course is very good.

Shawn: She’s come a long way and I’ve come to enjoy some of her dancing and Mark does seem to come up with some interesting routines that shows her good side. Her big advantage other than she obviously has the athletes discipline and is used to training hard, is her fanbase as an Olympian gymnast. I wouldn’t count her out at all even though I think Melissa and Gilles should be top 2.

I know I’m ignoring Ty and I have a horrible feeling that he’ll find his way into the top 3 but he just doesn’t deserve it and I hope his fans feel that way. He’s a great guy and has come a long way but is so limited as a dancer.

  • datilpepper

Ty is what this competition is all about…taking someone who is not a dancer and teaching them to dance…Chelsie has done just that. And she has done a fabulous job. The other dancers, Melissa, Shawn, and Gilles have obviously had dance related training for years…Of course they’re going to look better on the dance floor…but don’t count the cowboy out yet. He’s got a strong fanbase.

  • janerazor

You know what has always bugged me? Whenever anyone does the quickstep (as Melissa and Tony did last night), when they do that little jumping-jack-like move, the camara always does a close-up of the dancers’ feet. Why? Honestly, it’s not that interesting of a shot.

Tony has had a rough go of it on this show in terms of who he has had as partners (and Carrie Ann does seem to like to try to push his buttons), so I’d love to see him win more than I’d love to see Melissa win. I’m not sure it’s going to happen, though. She’s a great dancer, but she does lack the emotional connection. During their quickstep, I kept wondering why I wasn’t enjoying it more than I should have been, given how well they were executing the steps.

I’ll have the last two clips up today. I had some video problems last night.

  • trefina

Thanks for all the video posts–and looking forward to the final two! I couldn’t record the last hour!

  • hcpoirot

Ty and Chelsie had a chance to make it to the final based on DWTS scoring system. After the scoring from judges, here is the score and the percentage wise:

    Giles got 60 points or 27,5 %

    Shawn got 56 poinys or 25,5 %

Melissa got 55 points or 25,1%

Ty got 48 points or 21,9%.

So Ty only need 3,3 % of vote more than Melissa to get into finale. 3,3% difference in votes was not that much to over come.

  • hcpoirot

    The routines:

    1. Giles & Cheryl. Cheryl back with her more simple choreo for Giles and paid off. She finally realised that Giles is not a pro dancer and gave him a celeb choreo that suit Giles fine. And I had to admit, Giles is the best male dancer in latin dances in DWTS history.

    2. Shawn & Mark. Very solid routine specially the Argetine tango. But again, Mark try to outshine Shawn. Why? He sometimes dances too quick and made Shawn step look too slow. Mark had to realised that he did not dance with a pro here. If he still did this in finale, they can kiss the trophy goodbye.

    3. Melissa & Tony. Agree with judges on Quickstep. Good but boring. And for Cha cha. I thought the producer pimp out Melissa by showing off the clip whereshe got dumped in National TV. But if that the case, why they gave her such a bizarre song for Cha cha energetic dance? That song may cost them their ticket to final cause that song was very hard to dance for Cha cha routine.

    4. Ty & Chelsea. Thru out the whole show, this is the first time Chelsea mess up with choreo. She gave Ty too complicated routine for Ty in Vienesse Waltz. Is she just stick with the basic, they can get 27 rather than 25. But Ty shine in Samba round. Yes, is far from perfect but entertaining.

Prediction: Ty & Chelsea to go. But he only need 3,3% more votes to overcome Melissa or 3,7% votes to outlast Shawn. Maybe another shock elimination will happen. He is the underdog here and got lots of personality.

  • bean99

It’s very close. Any of them could go home tonight, even Gilles. I just hope it’s Ty.

  • Grammie Kari

Oh, I do hope Melissa and Gilles don’t go home! They both are fantastic dancers. I have picked Ty for the third week in a row. Shawn has done a terrific job and deserves to be in the finale.

I BELIEVE GILLES IS THE BEST MALE CELEBRITY TO APPEAR ON THE SHOW!

I figured the only way we can see Gilles and Melissa dance together is if they appear in a movie together! Wouldn’t that be a sight to see?
