Bill O'Reilly Outs Adam Lambert. Sort Of... - VIDEO

Oh that Bill O’Reilly, he’s always on the cutting edge of Pop Culture topics!

You know those pictures of Adam Lambert kissing guys, the ones that circulated on the web, like a month ago? O’Reilly finally decided to make hay of them on his conservative FOX talkfest, The O’Reilly Factor, last night.

Interestingly, the two blond republican chicks he had on the panel couldn’t stop gushing about Adam. Neither think the photos will make a difference to the show’s outcome. Although, one of blonds actually believes that American Idol is about “sheer talent” and at the end of the day, that’s what folks vote for.

Alrighty then!

O’Reilly flashes the pictures (nice plug for VFTW!), but cropped versions. Let’s titillate the middle-American masses and not have their heads explode, the thinking goes, I’m sure.

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

I’ll say it again. Bill O’Reilly never does anything without an ulterior motive.

This will move the masses, one way or the other.

    I can’t stand him.

  • kimberann

    O’Reilly must need some ratings.

  • gingerly

O’Reilly is the scummiest scumbag that ever scummed.

  • pj

Thanks, MJ. I was curious to see this after peeps were talking about it last night. O’Reilly really is an idiot. Let’s do a segment on something I know absolutely nothing about.

  • gingerly

I have to think that Adam Lambert is not at all embarassed with those pictures. That Mr. O’Reilly thinks he should be, absolutely doesn’t make it so. Sorry, I couldn’t watch the man past that statement. He gives me the heebie jeebies.

  • BootStar

Well, there you go! Bill O’Reilly says if Adam’s the most talented, he should win. The FOX PTB have spoken. The homophobic are now free to vote for him. Poor, poor Danny. Go, Adam!

  • unidentified

Oà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢Reilly has been getting upset that another right wing nut has been getting more attention than him. American Idol is popular, so he’s trying to grab on. Oà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢Reilly is an ass.

  • proudmom

Not a fan of O’Reilly, but this clip hardly seems like a big deal. The discussion was about whether the photos would make a difference in the outcome, and O’Reilly thought they shouldn’t, that the best singer should win.

  • cay

There was only one purpose of this – to let conservative America who probably had not seen or heard about this online – to know Adam is gay. This segment follows NY Post and other outlets claiming that Adam is a strong front runner and the one betting odds picked to win.

I was sad for Adam last night because it was pointless. And he wants this to be about his singing. And because it’s not the first time that “it’s alway about the gay” in trying to get his foot in the door. And because it was manipulation. And because it has nothing to do with a singing contest. However, Adam is strong and proud of who he is. And the girls were a little fangirly over him.

  • gingerly

I saw more to it than that proudmom. The first thing I heard Mr. O’Reilly say was that those pictures were/should be an embarrassment to Adam. Sorry, I left after that. There’s so much more being said in a statement that just the conclusion. If that’s all somebody hears, then maybe they accomplished their goal and planted a seed.

  • weareallinnocent

I agree with all the comments so far. O’Reilly’s motives are suspect, what with the repeated way he kept emphasizing that the people get to vote… hint, hint — the people have the control, now go exercise it…

But, ya know, I’ll be fair and take it on it’s face. He wishes Adam the best and says if he’s the most talented, he should win. And that’s how everyone should vote. Go Adam! :-)

  • maturin

My head just exploded from sheer irony. Jeeze, this kid should win this singing contest if he’s the best singer, regardless of sexuality! Why in that case, you might start staying that gay people should be able to do (x) desirable thing equally with other people where they equally meet the criteria.

Oh no wait, maybe this is supposed to be a reminder that “what happens in showbizness stays in showbizness.” Relax, O’Reilly viewers, we had Liberace under Nixon and Elton John walked the earth in Reagan’s day, so pay no attention to the Lambert so-not-behind the curtain.

Maybe the Fox honchos told ‘em he wouldn’t be allowed to start a gaybaiting meme around Adam on his show lest it conflict with the far more profitable Idol . . . but he’s happy to throw it out there to see what, if anything, gets started among his viewers.

But the blondes are right, as it happens. I should just be happy for La Lambert that he rocks him some conservative ladies, too.

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

Exactly. He wanted to plant a seed, and believe me when I say he planted one.

Case in point, why dig up those pictures? That’s yesterday’s news. Yet, that’s all he’s got. So the subliminal message I’m getting, “Adam Lambert may win American Idol, and he’s gay!” It’s utterly ridiculous, and I’m not even a fan.

O’Reilly is the Rush Limbaugh of television, only he often doesn’t have the balls to say what he really wants to say.

  • proudmom

Why is Adam hiding his orientation anyway, if it’s nothing to be ashamed of? So he can win AI? Anyone with half a brain can see he’s gay, so hiding it seems stupid to me.

  • gingerly

Is Adam hiding anything? Is he supposed to go out there and kiss a man? Do any of the other contestants talk about their sexual preferences? I really don’t understand what you’re saying proudmom. What exactly do you think he should do?

  • weareallinnocent

    He’s not hiding anything, proudmom.

  • lovecert

Which makes the Danny-Adam finale all the more polarizing. We did call it after they revealed the semifinal groups right?

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

Why is Adam hiding his orientation anyway, if ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s nothing to be ashamed of?

He’s just not talking about it.

I seriously don’t see why sexual orientation of any contestant is anyone’s business. I’ve never understood that.

  • snuffles

I really don’t think this will have much of an effect on the voting. People who are ultra-conservative were probably turned off by Adam’s eyeliner, nail polish and obvious make up in the first place.

And if they weren’t sure he was gay, I’m sure most people suspected it on some level. And in a weird way, it seemed like Bill O’Reilly was giving his tacit “It’s OK to vote for the gay” to his viewers.

But I do think that most people who watch and vote for Idol are women of all ages, and I’d say the bulk of them couldn’t give a sh!t that Adam’s gay because he reminds them of their favorite bands and singers from the 70s, 80, 90s and even today.

When it comes to the music scene, there is nothing “weird” about Adam at all.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

Adam hasn’t talked about his orientation on the show. That’s not hiding it. When those pictures surfaced last month he told E!Online that he is who he is and that he’s not hiding anything. He was smiling and laughing when he said it.

    Adam isn’t in the closet.

  • astolat

Wow, I threw up in my mouth a little bit there. Special points for managing to combine homophobia AND anti-immigrant prejudice!

OTOH, I freely admit that I cannot stand him, so maybe that is influencing my perception. I’m curious whether fans of his (BOR’s that is) who are not also fans of Adam’s see this — to me this reads that he’s being deliberately passive-aggressive and undercutting.

On the timing, to be a bit grassy-knolly for a second? I cynically wonder if Idol is looking in desperation to use this deliberately to try and at least make the season feel like a horse race. Adam is so much a front-runner right now that the season is in danger of turning into a fait accompli like last year, where the ratings were down down down until the very end, except only worse because it’s not even David vs David it’s Adam vs Player To Be Named Later.

  • bjesgirl

Bill O’Reilly is the devil. He’s a racist, homphobic, sexist, fundie-catering piece of shit. Fuck ‘im.

  • snuffles

Adam isn’t hiding anything. He’s currently single so he doesn’t have a boyfriend or life partner to show off. What else do you expect him to do? He’s being treated like all the other contestants. They’ve shown his family and friends in the audience (several of whom are from the Zodiac Show).

No one’s asking Anoop, Scott or Matt G. to confirm their heterosexuality on the show or in their video clips. Matt G. has a girlfriend but they haven’t mentioned her. Should we accuse him of hiding the truth too?

  • cay

I do wonder how Adam is holding up. The whole process is so stressful for everyone. They all seem to love him, but he is living with so many very fundamentalist people. He has to know how they view his lifestyle. There’s judging there even if they don’t explicitely show it. Then we know he was so stressed when the photos were leaked and he really thought he was going home. Then US magazine, O’Reilly etc.. So, he’s not only being judged on singing, his whole way of life is constantly on the stage.

To add to that, being a front runner is extreme pressure. I’m glad USA Today only has him ranked 3rd. And Kris’s rise to the top takes some pressure off, but he’s still got to feel it. I agree with Paula’s praise of him, yet I think he wishes she didn’t compare him to such huge rock legands. I bet he was skirming inside. That’s so much pressure. And he said he is super competitive and he knows better than any of them that this is his big shot at success. He’s worked gig to gig, living and working everywhere. He himself said he’s a “softie” and couldn’t have done this a few years ago. I always wonder about now how some of these people hold up. Adam’s really pushing it and dealing with so many other things. I hope he’s okay.

  • proudmom

Perhaps “hiding” was the wrong word. But he hasn’t exactly been forthcoming. This “maybe I am, maybe I’m not” deal is old.

  • snuffles

    He’s not doing that either!!

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

Perhaps “hiding” was the wrong word. But he hasn’t exactly been forthcoming. This “maybe I am, maybe I’m not” deal is old.

Is he required to make some sort of announcement? Wear a sign? I don’t think so. He’s just out there being himself. There’s no “maybe I am, maybe I”m not” about Adam at all.

It shouldn’t be an issue. Period.

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

    Perhaps à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“hidingà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ was the wrong word. But he hasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t exactly been forthcoming. This à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“maybe I am, maybe Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m notà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ deal is old.

To suggest that he’s wishy-washy about it or hiding it would somehow suggest that we have a right to know.

What? Does he need to wear the “I Am Gay” T-shirt tonight?

It irks me that suddenly, this is what it has come down to. Nothing but whether or not he’s talented should determine where he ends up when this is all over.

But, I also know that’s a big, fat dream – where any of the contestants are concerned.

    So stupid….

….Then we know he was so stressed when the photos were leaked and he really thought he was going home.

I hadn’t heard that. Did you actually read that somewhere or is that just a supposition?

  • weareallinnocent

    This à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“maybe I am, maybe Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m notà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ deal is old.

Huh? Have I missed something? When has he ever said that, or anything like it?

The media track it that way, but that’s not Adam speaking, it’s the press doing what they do because there’s been no discussion to date.

And, well, I’m mildly (wildly) offended at the notion that anyone other than Adam and the person with whom he’s intimate has any right to know or feel that a “maybe I am, maybe I’m not” response, if ever he said that, is old!!!!

  • hypertwink

He did say, “He is who he is.” I think that you can infer that if he’s kissing boys, he’s into kissing boys. What’s old is Bill O’Reilly – his concern-trollishness, his antiquated attitudes, and his schtick.

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

    Me too.

  • kathrynTX

OK I didn’t even watch this because I JUST CAN’T watch this f-ing idiot (BoR). And Adam isn’t hiding, IsoTA. OK, shall we have all the contestants sit on a panel and discuss their f-ing romantic lives? GEEZ, people. WHO CARES? If we’re gonna make a big huge deal about one person’s status, let’s give everyone equal treatment. I am SO TIRED of this kind of total crap. All citizens in this country deserve EQUAL RIGHTS, not legal rights based on someone else’s personal religious beliefs or based on an f-ing VOTE. Should we have put black peoples’ rights to equal access up for a vote? How about their right to vote? Should we put women’s legal rights up to a vote because some people think their Bible says women are NOT equal to men in some ways? ARGH. And this is SO OLD, you stupid idiot. This is NEWS for BoR? Oh what a journalist. What an idiot.

ETA: Yeah, is only Adam required to make some kind of public statement? How about Gokey? Let’s hear about his romantic proclivities. EWWWWW. NOT. Or 16 year old Allison? Oh maybe she is doing something someone doesn’t approve of too!

Oh dear. I’m getting way OT here. So back to it…I FLOVE ADAM. He is far & away the best singer on AI this year. I just want him to SING more and not act quite so much. Sing like you’re going to be a RECORDING star, Adam. Reach out here and grab us with that amazing voice, your intensity, and your smarts. And then make your live shows on tour whatever you want them to be! And I’d kiss him too…hee.

  • thesheriff

Yeah, I don’t think he needs to tell us how he likes to have sex or anything else along those lines…the fact that I just don’t like him or his style or his looks or his voice is enough for me. What he does for sexual satisfaction isn’t any of my concern. I can respect his talent but it’s not for me.

  • downeast

The basic problem with saying that he’s “hiding something” is that the underlying belief is that it’s something he should be ashamed of.

He’s not. He shouldn’t be. Is Kris hiding the little pretty wifey away? Is Danny pretending he wasn’t married (oh how I wish that were the case rather than what he HAS been doing, but I digress)?

Adam has said he’s single. He has changed song lyrics to make them gender neutral, rather than falsely singing hetero versions. He hasn’t pretended those photos on the web weren’t him.

So enough about this. And if it weren’t for scum-sucking creeps like Bill O pandering to the worst instincts of the American public AND endorsing Danny the Preacher, it would be a non-issue.

  • brextra

Then we know he was so stressed when the photos were leaked and he really thought he was going home.

Do we know that he thought that, or is it just speculation?

    Perhaps à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“hidingà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ was the wrong word. But he hasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t exactly been forthcoming. This à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“maybe I am, maybe Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m notà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ deal is old.

I don’t think that Adam is seeking to make his whole American Idol campaign about his sexuality. He’s not asking people to vote for or against his sexuality – just his talent.

The other contestants aren’t asked to be forthcoming about every aspect of their lives that people might consider controversial, so Adam shouldn’t have to either. I don’t understand why this particular issue is one that people think MUST be addressed.

And we have no idea if Fox is censoring anything that Adam might want to say on the subject. So it’s unfair to blame him.

I also don’t think he’s done anything to suggest “maybe I’m not.” Sure, he had that one interview where he said he was single and told “Rachel” he’d be looking for her or whatever. But he’s a flirt, and that’s all there is to it. It was after the photos came out, wasn’t it? He had to know that no one would take him seriously.

  • CRB

What is so hypocritical about O’Reilly is that last week on this “Culture Warrior” segment he shows Padma Lakshmi, essentially, making love to a hamburger. This rather graphic burger porn included a slow motion close-up of Padma running her tongue up the “bun crack” of a vertically turned burger to remove a blob of excess BBQ sauce but he acts like Adam kissing some guy, in still image, is too titillating for his audience.

  • brextra

I always thought that was the reason for his emotional reaction after à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Black and White.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

I thought so too. I just wondered if it was confirmed, because as it stands, that’s just us reacting to what we saw and making assumptions, you know?

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

I can respect his talent but ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not for me.

That’s what I think it should always be about. I cannot stand Screamy McScreamerton’s vocal antics, and it stops there.

I feel badly that it has to come to anything other than that.

  • Lu

I guess I dont get the outrage. Nothing was said in this segment that wasn’t true. And Adam was praised like crazy.

  • cay

I just read the comments on this over at VFTW. They think it will effect voting and couple have said this could be his ticket off the show. The funny thing is, if it does affect voting and he is voted off this week, then there will be a big fuss over whether it was because of his sexuality. He’d probably end up more popular and a bigger star if this happened than actually even winning the show! (This is NOT what I want, nor what I think he wants but it is true )

Re: Black and White results night. I heard from various sources he was very nervous about being voted off. You also can see it in his face. Most telling too, is the reaction from the other Idols as in “See, I told you so”. Someone there said even Michael Sarver said something to him along these lines. Allison play slaps his face. He really didn’t know what would happen. LOL. They were some pretty flamboyant pictures, and like I think MJ said he’s not Will from Will and Grace. He’s already different and OTT. Then these pics. Real competition just started. Knowing Idol like he does, would you think you even had a chance to stay?

  • http://kristentheyellowlab.blogspot.com/ Zsus

    Perhaps à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“hidingà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ was the wrong word. But he hasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t exactly been forthcoming. This à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“maybe I am, maybe Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m notà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ deal is old.

Adam is out and proud. It’s America who is closeted.

  • downeast

cay…I think possibly the saddest part of all of this is that I believe THIS bigotry and nastiness is the reason the producers felt they needed to add the SAVE option.

What the total hell is wrong with the people in this country, anyway….

And I doubt it’s any accident that they picked the night before the performance to haul this dead crap out of the bin.

    Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

  • weareallinnocent

Real competition just started. Knowing Idol like he does, would you think you even had a chance to stay?

No doubt in my mind that he’ll be affected, even worried. In his shoes, how could you not be? Heck, we’re just fans on the sideline and we have concerns of varying degrees.

I just hope he comes out fighting, like he did with “Black and White.” You go, Adam!

    ETA:

And I doubt ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s any accident that they picked the night before the performance to haul this dead crap out of the bin.

Yes, this. I didn’t watch until last season, and the shit always hit the fan on Mondays. Is this true of other seasons too, or just the last two?

Not all Christians are narrow minded, homophobic, bigoted, (add your insult here). Perhaps Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s popularity is a testament to that.

Word to sentence one, and I hope you’re right to sentence two. :-)

  • Cheeryo

Adam is clearly a gifted all-around entertainer.

As a Republican and a Christian, I don’t expect O’Reilly’s segment to hurt Adam on the show. I thought the segment was a flop. Maybe it even backfired on him. I liked Adam from the start, and like him more each time I hear him perform.

Here is the real news bit: yes, many women know about Adams pictures, etc, and still think he’s hot. We’re not stupid. Adam is an appealing person, to men and women. Good for him.

Not all Christians are narrow minded, homophobic, bigoted, (add your insult here). Perhaps Adam’s popularity is a testament to that.

If you want tolerance in this country, start by being a good example.

    Now, back to the music…

  • Lu

Not all Christians are narrow minded, homophobic, bigoted, (add your insult here).

    Correct.

  • mandalay

I’m going with the “any publicity is good publicity” thing. Any homophobic ultraconservative probably wouldn’t have liked him from the get go – as said above.

So now we need something else to get the public’s attention. Wasn’t there a rumor that Gokey cheated on his wife????? JK

  • folk

when did being gay become newsworthy? i mean how is this in any way news at all?

as for “hiding”….well, i have to agree with previous posters. a person who expects a gay person to outright tell them what their preference is…that person has some serious anti-gay bias going on within themselves.

  • Anya

Why should Adam or anyone else talk about their sexuality? Does Lil talk about her blackness or Alisson about having some Asian ancestors? Does anyone talk about being tall, short, blond, etc? None of these characteristics should have anything to do with vocal or perf skills. O’Raill

  • gingerly

Actually the “real” news as in really real and true, is that Vermont just overturned the Governor’s veto of same sex marriage. That’s real and true news, my friends.

  • SashaB

Bill O is a douche bag. No news there. Just gross.

  • Cheeryo

“None of these characteristics should have anything to do with vocal or perf skills.”

Agreed. I was so blown away the first time I heard Adam sing. I would definately go to one of his shows. He’s the first idol that I’ve felt that way about.

  • Layla

    Bill Oà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢Reilly is the devil. Heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a racist, homphobic, sexist, fundie-catering piece of shit. Fuck à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹im.

Amen sista. Yeah and I am totally fuckin’ intolerant of people like Bill O’reilly…the slimey bastard!

He states:” on the internet there are some embarrassing pictures of Mr Lambert” and
    “Can illegal aliens vote?”

WTF? So that’s what passes for journalism? What kind of an audience does he have that he can get away with saying shit like that?

  • Natasha

Then we know he was so stressed when the photos were leaked and he really thought he was going home.

I hadnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t heard that. Did you actually read that somewhere or is that just a supposition?

I always thought that was the reason for his emotional reaction after à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Black and White.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

I hope he isn’t too worried about this but it has to be stressful.

I don’t know what to make of the segment. On the one hand the two conservative women were positive to the point of gushing about Adam and it seemed like O’Reilly was surprised he didn’t get a negative reaction from them. Then again I’m sure just showing the pictures was like waving a red flag in front of a bull for some O’Reilly Factor viewers. They won’t even care what anyone says but I don’t know if they are people who actually watch Idol and vote.

  • background_noise

Adam is out and proud. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s America who is closeted.

    I agree 100%.

From Adam’s song, Kiss and Tell (which he supposedly co-wrote):

Why can’t we all be proud
    and shout it loud
    Embrace it
because sex is not the enemy.

    You go, Adam!

  • downeast

Did anyone here see Bill O’s “Final Word” segment?

There’s a post with a “transcript” on VFTW, and if it’s actually what he SAID instead of just a very clever poster being creative….it’s somewhere beyond hate speech, and supposedly at the end he endorsed Gokey.

I’m hoping it’s not his actual words.

  • piperlily

All the more reason why I don’t watch any TV “news.” All of it is garbage.

Anyway, on the positive — the more talk about Adam, better than no talk at all. It means more people are paying attention to him and his singing. Do we hear much about the others beyond Gokey? Is anyone talking about Allison (though I think she’s great)? Is anyone talking about Matt or Lil? No. The focus seems to always be on Adam — good or bad. But in Hollywood — even bad can be good. Talk is talk. I think he deserves to win.

  • maturin

VFTW . . . ticket off the show

    I think not.

The whole point of VTFW is to bait overly-invested fans into hysteria and then enjoy the howls of indignation. The people who take BOR with complete seriousness, like Bill himself, don’t watch Idol. Adam’s not going to be defeated by a sudden attack of grumpy old right wing guys ’cause, as has been pointed out so often here (though O’Reilly himself may not realize it), you can’t vote against someone on Idol. This tidbit of Foxnewsery would only hurt Adam if it caused people who are already voting for him to stop.

People who have enjoyed weeks of glam Lambert . . .and Ring of Fire. . .are hardly going to drop him ’cause of the type of blowharding you can catch on any AM radio.

I’m not saying Adam’s for sure going to win. Front-runner syndrome may be a bigger threat then anything, as many folks do indeed favor the emergence of dark horses or get tired of the judges praising the same person each week. If they continue to perform well, you could get Adam, Kris and Allison sharing a lot of voters for the next few weeks, leaving Danny the highest overall vote getter. Got no idea how that will play out.

  • proudmom

Is he required to make some sort of announcement? Wear a sign? I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think so. Heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s just out there being himself. Thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s no à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“maybe I am, maybe Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ m notà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ about Adam at all.

No, of course he’s not REQUIRED to do so, but if it’s not a big deal, then why not just admit it? Why not answer the question that’s been asked for weeks and weeks and just say, “Yeah, I’m gay, what of it?” Perhaps he believes he shouldn’t have to address it at all. That’s a valid point. But IMO, by not directly answering the obvious, he’s being disingenuous.

  • maggiemay

    o`reilly is just plain disgusting

  • gingerly

proudmom, should all of them admit they fuck people? Is that what you want to hear? Do you want the details of who and how they fuck? Does it matter to you if they are on top or bottom? Back or front?

I don’t believe he’s ever been asked “the question.” Why would anybody answer something they’ve not been asked? Nor does anybody have the right to ask him. I don’t believe that it’s anybody’s business but his.

I just don’t understand your concern.

  • calimari

I don’t think the photos of Adam kissing that guy are any more shameful than a photo of me kissing my husband. Nothing to be embarassed about. The fact that something like this even makes “news” is just sad.

  • undercooked

O’Reilly is slipping in the ratings. That divisive kind of show is on the decline. The country has too many problems to want to put their energy into this. I don’t think this segment will hurt Adam because most people have already made up their minds about who they want to win. Besides O’Reilly has got his own problems with sexually harrassing his staff. This is one guy who shouldn’t be anyone’s moral compass. I take everything O’Reilly says with a grain of salt.

As far as proudmom, Adam isn’t hiding anything. And why do you even care what is orientation is? And I agree with the gazillion posters who say it isn’t any of our business. Do the other contestants have to define themselves. How do we know Anoop isn’t gay? Or perhaps Allison is a lesbian? What about Ryan Seacrest. Everyone says he’s gay. Should he say something? Adam is single, so what is there to say?

  • Cheeryo

I notice that on Dial Idol, Adam usually gets a big bump after the West Coast starts to vote. True, he lives in LA, but he comes from a rather conservative area of San Diego and has lots of fans here too.

I’ll take his guyliner over Megan’s full arm tatoo, but that’s for a different thread.

    Ahhh…the…tattoo…has…my…foot…

  • listen

What BOR did accomplish, I think, is to get many of us who might have been on the fence about voting, to actually pick up the phone and dial…

I think I might just do that tonight. Adam was my favorite from Day 1, but I am not an AI voter. Living on the West coast does allow me the luxury of seeing whether Adam will need my votes tonight…

BOR, I have never watched his show, but I did watch that clip. While on the one hand it wasn’t as bad as I imagined it would be, just the fact that Adam’s sexuality is a topic of conversation, makes me very, very sad. :thumbdown_tb:

  • maggiemay

There was only one purpose of this – to let conservative America who probably had not seen or heard about this online – to know Adam is gay.

    very true cay :(

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

Why not answer the question that’s been asked for weeks and weeks and just say, “Yeah, I’m gay, what of it?”

Because he’s been in the Idol bubble since the show began, he hasn’t been asked those questions. Show me where he’s been asked about his sexuality and then answered in a disingenuous way. You won’t find anything like that anywhere because it does not exist.

  • proudmom

proudmom, should all of them admit they fuck people? Is that what you want to hear? Do you want the details of who and how they fuck? Does it matter to you if they are on top or bottom? Back or front? Sorry to get crude here, but ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s exactly what youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re doing.

Wow. I am not saying that he should have to say anything. But by NOT saying anything, he looks like (IMO) he’s trying to keep from losing votes. Maybe not, but that’s just what it looks like to me. Jeez.

  • downeast

But IMO, by not directly answering the obvious, heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s being disingenuous.

What if he HAD made himself the poster child of gaydom? No doubt he’d be getting a huge amount of criticism for courting the “gay vote”, and if won, it would be because “the gays” did it. If he didn’t win, it would be because “the homophobes voted for Gokey.”

He wanted the competition to be about his talent, not his sex life, not his politics, not his back story. Unlike others (cough Gokey cough) who have milked their pasts for sympathy votes, Adam has just been going out there and performing his heart out. Period. Like it or leave it.

And the saddest thing about all of this BillO horseshit is that now it ISN’T just about his talent anymore. They’ve taken that away from Adam and that just stinks.

ETA: listen, as of today I have downloaded dialidol and am prepared to vote my brains out tonight for the first time.

  • gingerly

So tonight, you think he should go out there and say, Hey, America, I’m a fag and I’m going to sing (insert title here)? I don’t get it. At all. I’ve never even voted for the man, but he has just as much right to his privacy as anybody else.

  • maturin

    heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s being disingenuous.

Contestants Anoop, Allison, Scott and Matt, as well as Adam, appear to be unmarried. I think it’s disingenous to say that one, and not the others, is supposed to make a statement about their dating habits.

    why not just admit it?

Because there’s no “admitting” involved. If I say I’m divorced, and you didn’t know that fact, I’m not “admitting” I’m divorced, I’m telling you a fact. It’s up to you if you want to pass judgment. Likewise, if I choose not to discuss it, and just say “I’m single,” I’m not “hiding the fact that I’m divorced.” It’s relevant only if I’m actually choosing to speak specifically to my private life, i.e., mostly not.

  • undercooked

“Wow. I am not saying that he should have to say anything. But by NOT saying anything, he looks like (IMO) heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s trying to keep from losing votes. Maybe not, but thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s just what it looks like to me. Jeez.”

If he was trying to keep from losing votes, he would have denied those pics. He didn’t. He is an honest and loving person and that is why so many people like him. He is one of the least disengenious persons to be on that show.

I think some people want him to answer that question because they can’t take not knowing. But why? Who cares? Why is it so important to know?

The only thing I need to know is what kind of album is he planning to make and when are the shows.

  • Cheeryo

“What BOR did accomplish, I think, is to get many of us who might have been on the fence about voting, to actually pick up the phone and dialà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦”

Yeah, could be an even bigger landslide than usual for him tonight. He’ll probably get some sympathy votes.

Whatever my personal view are, I don’t like to see this type of witch hunt.

As for VFTW, I used to read those threads, but I stopped. Some posters there repeatedly bring up Adam’s issue, and have been the ones to post pictures, etc. They’ve been going on and on for weeks about how Adam’s popularity is going to crash when people find out about the pictures, etc.

Mostly, it’s the insulting way they speak of Adam’s fans, especially his women fans, that makes me think there are posters there that are shills for one of the other contestants. I realize that making fun of “fantards” is part of the shtick over there, but the atmosphere is getting uncomfortible.

No, of course heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not REQUIRED to do so, but if ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not a big deal, then why not just admit it? Thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a valid point. But IMO, by not directly answering the obvious, heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s being disingenuous.

I don’t recall Adam being asked outright about what his sexual preference is so he’s had no question to answer. Personally I don’t think there’s a need for him to randomly just come out with “oh and by the way, if anyone’s interested, I’m gay” .. it’s not the kind of thing that he would randomly come out with in one of his pre performance VT’s or would just mention in one of his post performance interviews with Ryan.

I also don’t think he needs to issue any public statement declaring his sexuality either as it has bog all to do with the show which is a singing competition.

I don’t see anyone questioning the other unmarried Idols about their sexuality or expecting them to talk about their sexual preferences …. in fact I don’t think I’ve heard the likes of Anoop, Scott, Alison to name a few speak about having a partner, so are we just to presume that they’re straight or perhaps they have a couple of “embarrassing” pics hidden away somewhere (joking ). I just don’t think it’s any of our business and is no big deal.

  • just sayin

I really don’t get what the big flap about all of this is….

To me — viewing this in an OPEN-MINDED way (all you open-minded people out there) Bill O’Reilly was fine with what he said.

This is FOX News, American Idol is FOX’s #1 show — big surprise that O’Reilly talks about the show. He has in past seasons.

He said nothing unfair, the women gushed over Adam. They pointed out it is about the singing talent — what is all this hate about?

I like Bill O’Reilly AND Adam — I’m sure I’m not alone in this. MOST people with politically conservative views are not homophobic.

Sometimes liberals can be so narrow-minded!

  • proudmom

I think he has the right to say whatever he wants, or to withhold whatever information he wants. That’s not my point. Once again, my point is that by not addressing it (in interviews, etc.) he looks like he’s trying to keep from losing votes. Even if that is his reason, he has the right to do that as well. It’s a game, after all. My comments aren’t about rights, but rather perception. If someone disagrees, I’m fine with that. I just don’t get all the hate slung in my direction for my opinion.

Admit what?! Why is this an issue? He’s not running for the President of the USA. And it shouldn’t matter even in that case, but what can you do. America is not voting on family values or issues of morality or same sex marriage. Now I recall there was some issue with Danny Hernadez because of the gay stripping stuff. I don’t know if Idol viewers will care about this or not. We’ll just have to see.

It’s American Idol. America is voting for who they want to see continue on this competition and back on their TV screens. Adam is on a TV singing talent competition. He wants to be a recording artist. LadyGaga is bi-sexual. Americans are buying her single and videos. *shrugs*

The reasons I’m in luv with my freckled faced redheaded Opie/Adam:

    He’s mega talented.
He has obviously worked on and is sincere about his craft.
He is articulate and comes across as very intelligent.
He seems to love and adore his parents and is proud of their roles in his life.
He cares about his fellow contestants, he is always upbeat and positive when speaking with them or about them.
He doesn’t search out and seek to be the center of attention. In the group numbers he often “hangs back” and even then I can’t take my eyes off of him.
He’s brutally honest (black hair dye and a straight iron).
He has a GEORGEOUS SMILE and he smiles using his whole face.
He is always respectful to the judges, doesn’t interrupt, doesn’t make faces when their criticism is over the top.
He dresses his way! No pretense about his style!
He PERFORMS as well as sings. Even sitting on a stool he is performing. It flows from every pore, and he makes sure he is emoting to the song.
He ENUNCIATES! He doesn’t mumble, you can understand every word of every song he sings.
He has manners (good parenting) and isn’t shy about Thanking people and it never comes across to me as disengenuous.
He uses his God given talents..he knows he has a good vocal range and he isn’t afraid to embrace that upper register even though some people may find it schreechy or OTT.
He sings TO ME not around me. When he is on the stage I am the only one he is singing to.

I feel that there is something really special about ADAM. Whether he “wins” Idol or not is beside the point. The man is a winner in my book just because. And, I envy his Mom. I would be VERY proud if this guy were my son. There is NOTHING about him that would EVER make me ashamed.

    Did anyone here see Bill Oà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Final Wordà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ segment?

Thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a post with a à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“transcriptà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ on VFTW, and if ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s actually what he SAID instead of just a very clever poster being creativeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s somewhere beyond hate speech, and supposedly at the end he endorsed Gokey.

    Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m hoping ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not his actual words.

I’m sure that was a poster being a wise ass. He called Allison “the Mexican”, even though BOR is a scumbag, I don’t think even he could get away with that.

When will the day come when we don’t have to discuss anyones sexuality?

  • weareallinnocent

    I just donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t understand your concern.

EXACTLY my thoughts, gingerly. And, let’s be real, proudmom, he’s damned if he does and he’s damned if he doesn’t. If he just announced his sexual preference out of the blue, besides being labelled a nutjob for doing so, he’d be damned by those who “don’t want to hear it, bygod!” To the effect: “I don’t care if he’s gay, but I don’t want it thrown in my face! Just sing, this is a singing competition, not a gay rights activists parade, dammit!” or “I just want to be entertained, not watch Idol politicized for godsakes! Does everything have to be about being gay? Shit!” You KNOW that would happen, because it already has, simply based on his style and appearance at times!!!

But, anyway, I brought this over — it’s one of my best friends’ present status on facebook, and while not about Idol it is about music and well, it speaks to me on this O’Reilly piece fwiw:

My friend (who happens to be gay) “likes the occasional reminder that human beings are better than religion and politics would lead us to believe. Kick it, Julie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7EYAUazLI9k

  • Lu

The segment was stupid but I don’t think it will affect anything. Just like all the Antonella pics… It’s on tv because it’s idol and everyone talks about idol. If there are pics out there that anyone could deem controversial, they WILL end up on tv at some point.

Adam will be fine. He seems very secure with who he is. One thing is for sure… in this age of the internet and camera phones you better make darn sure you know what’s being photographed.

I agree with Lu and just sayin. I don’t see the big deal. The women gushed, O’Reilly said if he’s the best he should win. I don’t understand the controversy. All the hate directed at O’Reilly seems a little extreme in this instance. He runs a topical program on Fox. AI is topical and on Fox. Is it really a surprise he would cover it? A big part of his show is talking about culture. I think the segment is a non-issue.

It’s about YOUR perception. How can Adam control everyone’s perceptions? And WHY should he? WHATever. You’re implying that he has been directly asked, on Idol, about his sexuality, and he has refused to address it. This has NOT happened. And it shouldn’t. Unless perhaps they ask EVERY contestant. And I don’t even care or need to know. I see Adam on the show. I can decide if I like him or not based on my perception. I don’t need him to try to manipulate (or NOT) my perception somehow.

  • proudmom

And again Proudmom, why do you care if he is gay, bi, or straight? Still not sure why this is such an issue?

Subtlety is lost here. I don’t care what his sexuality is. And it’s not a big issue. I was just wondering why he isn’t vocal about it. Period.

  • Niall

I was just wondering why he isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t vocal about it. Period.

Probably because he knows that if he is vocal about it, there will be much complaining about how he’s “shoving it in everybody’s face”. Heterosexual people donn’t go around talking all the time about being heterosexual so I kind of like Adam’s mellow, “I am who I am” approach. He’s clearly not hiding anything and doesn’t seem to feel the need to spell it out in big bold, rainbow colored letters.

Oh and for the sake of entertainment value it is just unfortunate it wasn’t Glenn Beck who jumped on the Adam non-story. Beck wouldn’t have had O’Reilly’s restraint and would have gone full on into how Adam’s presence on the show is some sort of liberal conspiracy to destroy the fabric of our country. LOL

Well, I have previously seen the pics and it did not affect my love for Adam at all! He’s a brilliant talent in every aspect! Seeing Bill pull such a stunt has infact changed my feelings about Bill! Come on Bill… Sure you want to talk about Idol because it may get people intetested but to do it in such a malicious way is pretty tackey. I think Bill is this weeks pinhead. He should put that segment on his show…

Hey, if he is not saying anything because he’s partly trying to keep from losing votes I’d say he’s a smart cookie. American Idol is a competition and history shows that you need to play it smart if you want to win. I think even Gokey realized he’d turn off many people when he mentioned about the dead wife and now has stopped talking about it. Simon told Kris that he brought up the wifey too early in the game. Lil Round brought her cute daughter to the live show and probably snagged some extra votes that night. You have to be naive or taking it too seriously to think that these people do not play the game.

But seriously, I don’t generally go out and announce to people that I have a boyfriend if nobody’s asking. Even when they do ask and I feel it’s not a good time to announce, I still want my privacy to be respected. It’s not like I’m committing crime.

Respectfully, no, that’s not how it reads here because it’s not what you’ve said here. You’ve called him disengenuous and you’ve judged his motives as trying to hide himself to gain votes.

The bottom line for me is that the only way his not speaking about his sexuality could possibly be criticized as disengenuous or calculated to paint himself dishonestly is if he were obligated to speak or that others had the right to know. He’s not, and they don’t.

ETA: Glad some of you liked the video, it took me to that “happy place” too, and I believe I’ll take a ride back there now! :-)

I feel like we need to hold the rest of the cast to the same standard. Anoop has yet to address the Hindu issue. I don’t think Allison has addressed whether or not she’s still a virgin, either. Fair is fair and America wants to know! After all, wouldn’t Anoop lose votes if he admitted he’s Hindu? Seems to me they are keeping this info quiet to avoid losing votes!!!!! ;)

Seriously though, I am thrilled that in the year 2009 Adam has been able to participate in the biggest show in the country without his sexuality being a big deal. I predict this Bill O’Reilly thing will prove to be a bigger deal around the AI blogs and among hardcores than it ever will among the casual viewers, much like the photos themselves.

  • proudmom

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m still not sure what you are expecting him to do, exactly.

Okay, here I go again: I wondered why he doesn’t say, “I’m gay, what of it?” I wondered why he doesn’t say that. I didn’t say he needed to or had to or whatever, I just wondered what his motive was for not screaming it to the world. That’s all. No hidden agenda. No evil eye thrown his way. Just curious.

proudmom, should all of them admit they fuck people? Is that what you want to hear? Do you want the details of who and how they fuck? Does it matter to you if they are on top or bottom? Back or front? Sorry to get crude here, but ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s exactly what youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re doing.

    Logical fallacies all.

  • karenw

Subtlety is lost here. I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t care what his sexuality is. And ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not a big issue. I was just wondering why he isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t vocal about it. Period.

I think if he was vocal about it the media would just make more of it and then we’d be at risk of whatever Adam says about his sexuality detracting from the talk about his actual performances on the show … I know that people seem to be making a big issue of it anyway, but if he did issue a statement (not that he needs to) then the whole emphasis of the show would be “OMG Adam Lambert admits “I’M GAY”"

You’d then also get people saying “why’s he telling us that, we’re not interested, it has nothing to do with the show” .. so poor guy can’t win either way.

Personally I think that Adam’s performances and way he’s conducting himself are enough to tell me everything I need to know about him as a performer and a person and make me believe that he would be a fantastic winner of the show.

  • onherthize

AI and Fox wouldnt let OReilly do this segment unless they wanted him to.
Billdo and The Culture Warblers gave Red State America the green light to ignore the “gay thing” and vote for Adam if hes the most talented. Thats why this aired.

Ai is beginning to fear being stuck with Gokey Hicks as this years Idol.

  • snuffles

I was just wondering why he isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t vocal about it. Period.

WHY does have to be vocal about it when it’s a SINGING contest!?

  • Tess

This whole discussion so reminds me of the movie In &Out with Kevin Cline, Joan Cusak, Tom Selleck. (I just threw it into the VCR). I just want to stand up in the audience and yell “I’m Gay and Proud of It” like Debbie Reynolds did. There are so many times when I am embarrassed to be part of the human race when their intolerances become obsessive. In my heart I know that my God would never condemn anyone for loving and wanting to feel love. Hopefully, in my lifetime this will become the non-issue that it should be!

  • proudmom

I think if he was vocal about it the media would just make more of it and then weà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d be at risk of whatever Adam says about his sexuality detracting from the talk about his actual performances on the show

I think you are probably right. Perhaps that’s why he hasn’t directly said, “I’m gay.” I still think he hasn’t said it because he’s worried about votes, but yours is a valid argument.

  • AngelaSL

Someone had to email the whole thing about Adam to that show because they were offended. The reason why I say that is because it has been stated that people can e-mail the show about things that might be offensive in pop culture. Sure O’Reilly is five weeks and a dollar short, the man has an audience and has been the number one cable show for 100 months. Those two blondes though, it was obivious that they did not do their research b/c one of them actually said the show is geared towards a young demographic, when it fact that’s the demographic shrinking in ratings.

  • proudmom

Damn, he may get me voting after all. Not for his voice so much but for his overall awesomeness in being who he is.

I thought this was about who is the better singer/performer?

  • proudmom

WHY does have to be vocal about it when ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a SINGING contest!?

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! I didn’t say he had to be vocal about it. I simply wondered why he wasn’t.

  • Niall

By not making a big deal of it he allows people to judge him (hopefully) on his value as a singer, for the most part anyway. He shouldn’t gain or lose votes on the basis of his sexuality and if the show made a big deal of it on the show they’d risk it becoming the issue that overshadows everything else. Right now the issue is “What weird/awesome/curious/ choice will Adam make THIS week?” and that is how it should be. Adam is on the show in the role of singer not activist and that is how it should be (I’m looking at YOU, Danny “ghoulish widower” Gokey). I’ll be very interested in hearing all about his views on things once his time on the show is over.

How about I judge them on practicality? He wants to win, numerous people have speculated that there might be a backlash if he stood up and said, “I’m gay,” therefore I think, “Maybe that’s why he hasn’t been more vocal.” Of course, IMO, I think that if he were more vocal, he’d probably get more people to vote for him. Sympathy goes a long way:

When the camera pans to Adam’s family and friends, should Idol Producers qualify which person is Adam’s husband or boy friend? Jeesh. Not sure why “full” disclosure is important or de rigueur on Idol. Now if Producers, however, do do this, I would say that’s some major depimpage and that would be handing this competition on a platter to Gokey. Maybe the producers do want to pimp him after all. Dunno, but I have read about all the 19Evil stuff so nothing surprises me with this show.

I agree with Lu and just sayin. I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t see the big deal. The women gushed, Oà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢Reilly said if heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s the best he should win. I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t understand the controversy. All the hate directed at Oà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢Reilly seems a little extreme in this instance. He runs a topical program on Fox. AI is topical and on Fox. Is it really a surprise he would cover it? A big part of his show is talking about culture. I think the segment is a non-issue.

    Agree.

I thought it was a reasonable question and that the conclusions were very positive toward Adam. I think it is good exposure for him and idol.

Bill O’reilly has had the #1 cable show for 100 months. I think he can pretty much cover whatever he wants. He often has segments covering social issues like Octomom, etc. with people giving their opinions, so this was nothing unusual.

On what someone said about a “transcript” from VFTW….. O’reiily never even mentions any other idols in this show. He talks about AI often, and it is clear that he doesn’t think much of the show and doesn’t watch it, but he knows many Americans do. He didn’t even mention any other AI contestant on the show and all he said was what you saw– that if Adam is talented enough, he should win.

Well, Bill Oà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢Rielly never answered the questions about sexual harassment towards a co-worker that he got in trouble for. He just plain said he was not going to talk about It. But, he sits up there and doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t mind talking about other peopleà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s private business!! heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a douche

Because he is a big ass hypocrite, who will challange anyone who doesn’t want to go on his stupid show and call them every name in the book, yet will never own up to his own bullshit. Definitely in the running for Captain Douchebag.

I don’t think any of these kids should have to speak about their sex lives in any way shape or form. It is not relevant to the competition, and since AI purports itself to be a family show, actively discussing the contestant’s grown-up sex lives would seem to me to be a major no-no. And ugh – that goes for those stupid purity rings and all that crap. I don’t really want to hear that shit either, unsuspectingly on a family show – save me please from having to explain to an 8 year old what “virginity” means.

So, I beg you AI contestants, please keep all discussions of your sex lives, or lack thereof off the show. If you choose to discuss your sex lives with the press after the show, please refrain from doing it on TV before 9 or in Nick Jr. magazine. All other magazines are newspapers are okay. Thank you very much.

I honestly have no idea who is gay on the show. There’s lots of rumors about Allison’s sexuality. I know Danny has been married, but I can name many people I know that married and then came out. Danny and Kris are proud fundamentalist christians. Should I expect them to shout out their fundamentalist views on TV?

If I follow some of the logic here, then I’m beginning to think that Danny and Kris are being dishonest. They are trying to come across as middle of the road when their views are extreme. And polar opposite from mine. Should I judge them on their religion? Should I really need to know their exact positions before I decide to vote for them? Are they turning their back on their views by not shouting them?

Thank goodness, I don’t care and like them all. I feel something for all of them and really do wish them great success in life and career. This is one of my favorite seasons. And like a family, I can still care about them even if I don’t agree on everything. The sad thing is that this IS going to affect Adam. And it’s a shot AT Adam. I’d say many Idol viewers and voters probably hadn’t seen the photos and either don’t surf the net much, or hasn’t had much interest to read all about them. So, this IS new to a lot of people. We’ll just have to see how it affects him. Really sucks to me.

  • LK09

I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think any of these kids should have to speak about their sex lives in any way shape or form.

Funny thing is that they don’t discuss their sex lives on the show. If it wasn’t for gossip magazines, radio dj’s, tv programs, and the internet, no one would know all of this stuff about the idols’ lives.

In EVERY interview DA does, they ask him about a girlfriend, kissing, etc. I guess it goes with the territory in America. Even in Singapore, they are asking him the same questions. It gets really old after awhile.

    On what someone said about a à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“transcriptà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ from VFTW

The VFTW “transcript” is meant to mock Bill O’Reilly. He’s very unpopular in those parts:

“I am glad Megan with her scary tattoos is gone and I soon hope that Mexican chick with her crazy red hair and dangblasted rock music goes home next. We don’t need that rock and roll ruckus infecting the moms and children of upper middle class suburbia. As for the men left, well (snicker) you alredy know how I feel about Adam Lambert, but the rest of the men are solid citizens we can all get behind. Their smooth light rock style gets my toe a-tapping every time. As for Little, or Lil, or whatever her name is, well, we still have a thing quotas in this country (smug condescending look) so I’m sure she’ll be around for awhile at the expense of one of the more deserving muzak males. But in thewords of Chicago politics, vote early and vote often. Just make sure you vote for Danny Gokey…and that is the final word.”

  • Tess

By their own definition Fox News is conservative and MSNBC is liberal. The majority of their “editorial news programs” if not their actual news presentation is, for the majority, slanted towards the right for Fox and the left for MSNBC. I am a card-carrying independent who tries to make independent decisions based on my best “gut” instinct. But, I must say, that I am VERY uncomfortable whenever I have the dubious pleasure of having to listen or watch Mr. O’Reilly. He so reminds me of a Rush Limbaugh wannabe without the flagrant balls of Mr. Limbaugh. I don’t hate either man, but I find that the way they have of manipulating any innocent phrase or statement and twisting and turning it until it proves their ludicrous point is insulting to my intelligence (as limited as it may be).

I, also, want AI to be about a singer and his/her performances. I don’t want “politics” of any kind to inflitrate this show, but that is a silly pipe dream that has no basis in reality. Even though 99.9% of us have no real stake in the outcome of this program we tend to fight like cats and dogs to support our favorites. I just wish the fighting was fair!

  • http://kristentheyellowlab.blogspot.com/ Zsus

Soà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦is Adam gay or not?

    I think he’s melancholy.

Anyway, I think the deal with Adam is he is AI’s golden goose. Love him or hate him, the guy is going to draw more and more viewers curious to see what all the fuss is about. Is he really that good? How’s he going to dress? What’s he going to sing? Will the hair be high, low, in between? They don’t want to lose him. They recognize that this is a homophobic nation, therefore, the news media controlled by Fox or associated with Murdoch or 19 has slowly, slowly been getting the word out. The NY Post, Us Weekly, OK Magazine, Fox News. It’s spin, and O’Reilly played his role last night as Mr. Conservative America. But, the end result is he got shouted down by two women who made a point of focusing on Adam’s talent. Ultimately, Bill had to admit it should be about talent. The message was loud and clear: Adam is gay. So what? Keep voting for him.

  • gingerly

I honestly don’t think all that many viewers watch O’Reilly either. I just don’t see people who watch Idol watching all the news shows. I know one person who watches O’Reilly and believes most of what he says. I could have been married to this person, but umm in the long run I’d rather be single. This person is also a huge proponent of fay rights so I’d love to see his reaction…not so much, however, that I’d have to interact with him. Oh and this persion of whom I’m speaking has absolutely no use for American Idol.

This it is. And an extremely personal one, at that. And I hate it for him. It’s about who he is as a human being.

The question: Should who he is matter — with the clear implication that who he is as a person should be a source of shame to him or controversy to others or a factor to undermine all of his hard work and extraordinary talent — can only be an excrutiatingly painful one to hear, about yourself. In any context, let alone the public eye.

Adam, you go. And as one of the earlier reports ended, “Kiss anybody you want, dude.” You’re fantastic! Everything about you, Rocks!!

  • bambambam

I don’t think that many posters are aware that O’Reilly’s often-stated criterion for a civil society is that seeing gay people in public offends him and that the solution is for gay people to go back into the closet.

That explains everything about why he would mention it and let the two other “panelists” say what they please. Viewers of O’Reilly only need a slight cue to start saying that the visibility of gay people is an attack on them, and their religion and their children.

Never mind that O’Reilly and Hannity and Beck spread hate against immigrants, teachers, union members and Democrats, and even rape victims simply for being who they are. O’Reilly and all the Limbaugh clones are setting up enemies and villains, and the hate response in the viewers is triggered. Don’t be surprised if Adam comes up again.

And let’s examine one fact: there are many posts questioning Adam’s motives and place in the show as a gay person — at Idol Chatter, one persistent troll posts anti-gay slurs every week, and at the same time accuses TPTB of making him TCO. Whereas the reality is, Adam is outnumbered as a gay person in the finalists by religious fundamentalists by 500-600%.

But O’Reilly’s point, and it’s heard clearly by his coterie — is that gay people are taking over America and it’s not fair to oppressed Christians.

  • LaurelG

    My thoughts:

Bill O. is a filthy, hypocritical piece of garbage. Karma’s a bitch and he’s so overdue.

Adam has no obligation to say anything to anyone about his sexuality. He’s not hiding . . just singing.

Tess, your post about Adam was absolutely lovely. I’ve read a lot of great posts from Adam fans, but that was heartfelt and simply the best. Thanks for sharing.

I love this guy. He’s a mega-talent and a star. Everyone knows it, including every single one of those judges.

  • gingerly

I actually don’t love Adam. I actually love nobody this year. I’m just interested in seeing each and every one of them held to the same standard. I actually don’t care if each and every one of them has to go out and give their deepest and darkest fantasies or not. I’m just concerned with fair play. That.is.all.

  • ShariG

I don’t love Adam, either, but I do think he is talented and his sexuality would not affect my vote one way or the other. O’Reilly clearly doesn’t watch the show. He didn’t know that viewers were voting at this stage of the competiton and thought it was determined only by the judges. The second woman was wrong, too. She said American idol is primarily targeting a young audience. I think last year and David Cook’s victory disproved that theory. Plus, I see it as great family entertainment with people of all ages tuning in and enjoying the show. I do agree with the women though that while it may effect a few narrow minded people, over all, the votes go to the contestants with the most talent and Adam is certainly in that category.

  • http://absinthedreamers.blogspot.com/ Starrlight

In my opinion, Bill is a turd. Period.

  • ShariG

I am a Christian, actually a Catholic Christian, and I am also a liberal. I neither hate gays nor Adam Lambert because he is gay. It is unfortunate that some folks tend to lump all Christians under the biggot umbrella. There are many Christians who believe in tolerance, love and understanding regardless of ethnicity, socioeconomic class, or sexual orientation. O’Reilly doesn’t speak for us. Conservative and Christian are not synonymous any more than liberal and atheist. The sexual preference of any of the contestants is no one’s business but their own.

  • Duke

    Shut ur mouth Bill.

  • SashaB

    I agree with ShariG (3:34pm).

Bill O is a white man. He doesn’t speak for all white men either. It’s an opinion. An opinion of a jackass. His gender and race are irrelevent to the fact that he’s an ass.

  • Duke

Oh and if it were up to Adam, i would stake my life that he would be out and proud on the show NO QUESTIONS ASKED. When your that comfortable on stage, it is reflective of your comfort level off the stage. and b) i know Adam doesn’t give a flying fuckstick about people bringing the topic up, he probably wants to just say to one of the cameras real quick before he goes on, “I’m gay. Here’s more of jerkface O’Reilly using code words to foment hatred of a gay “indoctrination” agenda with asshat Dennis Miller. Notice that he takes exception to “tolerance” of “it.” Mealy-mouthed tut-tutting that Limbaugh and O’Reilly and Coulter don’t actually advocate re-criminalization of gay people is total bullshit.

They raise fear in their listeners and motivate them against the enemies they choose. It’s the same thing with the made-up war against Christmas. They act as if one person who isn’t Christian oppresses the entire Christian population and the multi-trillion dollar Christmas consumption economy. That’s where you have to point out, yes, this is anti-gay hatred, not just, oh, we have to respect religious beliefs. He’s not pointing out the differences, he’s saying gays threaten the Christian children. Even though gays are outnumbered by fundamental Christians and clearly fundamentalists dictate the public policy that gay couples cannot marry and don’t have the rights of other citizens.

O’REILLY: Here’s — you can talk about this on your radio show tomorrow. There are millions of Americans who feel that the media and the educational system is trying to indoctrinate their children to a certain way of life, and that includes parity for homosexuals with heterosexuals.

And that’s what this Rowling thing is all about, because she sells so many books. So many kids read it, that she comes out and says, “Oh, Dumbledore is gay, and that’s great.” And this — it’s another in the indoctrination thing. That’s what the belief system is among some Americans.

MILLER: I’ll be honest with you. I don’t think you can indoctrinate a kid into being gay. You might indoctrinate him into trying it once and him going, “I guess I’m not gay.”

    [crosstalk]

O’REILLY: No, but tolerance. It’s — you know, he’s not going to be gay, but it’s tolerance of it.

    à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“I think that I know who I am, and so hopefully people will like that.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

Heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not hiding anything. He knows who he is and heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s proud of it.

I think they want to hear, “Me Adam. Me Gay.”
That should clear it right up.

  • gingerly

I’m so hoping that Adam gives them something that keeps them guessing. I know he’s put it all out there. I guess it isn’t enough for the ABC crowd who want it spelled out in no uncertain terms. I really hope he ignores them. They actually deserve no response. Adam is exactly who he is. Let them all sing and then judge. I honestly wouldn’t pick Adam first. I’d pick Kris. I don’t know that he will keep this up or that Adam will overtake him. I just don’t see anybody else getting close.

  • ShariG

I’m with you, Gingerly, Kris and Adam so far are my front runners and my preference is slightly towards Kris right now, just because I think he has less professional experience and just keeps getting better and better and it is so fun to watch. Plus, I love his studio versions on I-Tunes. He has a beautiful voice. I don’t care if he is married (read:more than likely straight) any more than I care if Adam is gay. There are others (Allison, Danny, Matt) who could come on strong, but I am hoping for a Kris/Adam finale. Unless one of them really has a horrible off night, the K/A finale is a strong possibility. The pressure is on now.

  • just sayin

First, let me say that I AM an Adam Lambert fan and have voted for him quite a bit these past few weeks (along with Kris, Allison and Matt.)

But, here’s the rub: No matter what kind of stellar performance any other Idols have the remainder of the season, and no matter if Adam continues to be awesome or not, IF Adam does not win this whole thing, it is going to be blamed on homophobic America not willing to embrace a gay Idol. There will be no other reason that he doesn’t win (if he doesn’t) for many people.

    That’s just not right.

  • snuffles

Perez Hilton just Twittered his support

    http://twitter.com/perezhilton/statuses/1471652179

Apparently he has over 500,000 followers.

  • SashaB

Yes, but based on stuff like Perez Hilton’s stupid Twitter, if he wins, it will be said that it’s because he’s gay. It should be about the talent on the stage. I find idiots like Perez Hilton just as annoying as Bill O. With supporters like him, he doesn’t need enemies. Adam is not looking to be a political figure or call to arms. Adam is trying to start a music/entertainment career not make a statement about gay rights. Appropriation on both sides is rather sad.

  • eveh

Fox news is not a Republican network. These are not Republican chicks as you call them. Shaun Hannity is the only Christian and Republican on this network. O’Reily is an independant, Greta is a scientologist, Beck is a Mormon, etc….so not Republican chicks. Adam is not the most talented, he is the most pimped. Big diffrence. Kris and Danny have more vocal talent. They don’t scream every song. Yes, he does. It’s his signature.

  • jnd1221

I’ve been an Adam fan all season, but I promised myself I would not vote this year after all the DC insanity last year. Too bad, I’m powervoting for Adam tonight.

  • downeast

And THAT’S why he’s kept the gay thing on the back burner…

    1) If he wins, it’s because he got “the gay vote.”

    2) If he loses, it’s because he got the “anti-gay vote.”

Thanks to the idiots in the media, it will no longer just about what he does on stage.

  • gingerly

I’m sorry, eveh, but a republican by any other name…would smell as putrid?

  • http://myspace.com/susanatfox sumidol

The most pimped Idols have been Danny, Matt lately- I believe Simon told Adam he was horrible just a couple of weeks ago, so the tides are turning back towards Adam and I am lovin it, good for him – Kris and Adam have the most vocal talent in my very humble opinion, I do not think that Adam screechs or screams – he can just hold that note, any note – long and proud and beautifully – be it loud or soft. Adam knows how to control his instrument well, his Vocal instrument…..

  • Buderschnookie

I think it is a bit naive to think this was never going to come up.
For all we know Idol is behind it to begin with just to gauge what effect it will have while they still have the “save” on the table should things go terribly wrong.
Get it over with once and for all.

    Stranger things have happened.

  • bambambam

O’Reilly is a registered Republican — just like Coulter is, but unlike Coulter, O’Reilly didn’t register in two different places and commit voter fraud, like she did.

Minnesota Senator Al Franken discovered the O’Reilly Republican registration which was in 1994, and it is pictured here

I do wonder how Adam is holding up. The whole process is so stressful for everyone. They all seem to love him, but he is living with so many very fundamentalist people.

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m sure he dealt with this sort of prejudice and bias LONG before Idol days. This may be mild compared to what he’s had to contend with in the past. I’m not trying to be flippant about something so serious, it’s just that Adam strikes me as extremely confident and assured in himself. I honestly donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think this stresses him out at all à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ neither the publicà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s fascination with his sexuality nor the competition. I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t intend to worry about his well being at all since heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t appear too worried himself. I simply want to sit back and enjoy his ride to the top!

I also don’t worry one bit about O’Reilly’s piece because, call me crazy, but I doubt the people who buy into his BS are the same people who spend three hours of their life a week addicted to Idol and voting.

  • thedingoateyobaby

Poor Bill, he has always had a seedy side to him whether its soft porn or…GASP! Adam being Gay. He is always finding new ways to interject these “fascinating” tidbits into his show. I love how he kept running the clips of Adams “repulsive” kissing over and over through the “discussion”.

OReilly is a piece of garbage, always has been and he is nothing if not consistent. Playing the fear card is what he and others of his ilk does best.

OMG we’re going to be attacked
OMG we’re letting all the illegals in
OMG hollywood is ruining this country
OMG the liberals are making our kids immoral
OMG Adam Lambert is going to singlehandedly take the country to hell

Why are the pics embarassing? he’s kissing a guy, he’s Gay, big effing deal.

Fox is not a republican network?

Spits Ovaltine out all over my keyboard.

I edited my own post, mention Fox or its characters and I get crazy but Im ok now.

  • Tess

Fox news is as far to the right as you can go without bumping into the ultra conservative moral majority that is the “Christian right”. And they are the first to admit this since all of their commentators deplore the “obvious liberal views” of NBC and MSNBC and are the ones always commenting on their competitors uber liberal policies and support of the current administration.

And by “Christian right” I am not making a statement about the wonderful followers of Christ inspired religious organizations. I am talking about the “born again” fundamentalists who believe the only people who have any rights in this country are those that embrace their conservative policies and “hate” on those who have broader and more decent views of humanity.

  • Natasha

I do wonder how Adam is holding up.

Yeah, me too. It’s like adding more stress to an already stressful situation.

    Perez Hiltonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s stupid Twitter,

For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. That’s life.

  • LK09

Hannity is a conservative (and catholic)

O’reilly is an independent (and catholic), although IMO right leaning (don’t know what he was in 1994 but is now registered as an independent)

    Beck is a libertarian

  • tinawina

    Beck is a libertarian

Beck is a nut. LOL. Sorry, but it had to be said.

    Perez is an idiot.

  • downeast

Is there such a thing as a REALLY REALLY macho song? “I’m a Lumberjack and I’m Okay?” The ESPN Sports Tonight theme song? (Ironically enough, given the whole Queen thing) We Will Rock You? Girl Named Sue?

Because part of me wants Adam to come out tonight in full TOTAL BUTCH regalia dressed in Harley Davidson leathers, toting a semi-automatic on each hip, chewing tobacco and spitting, and have him sing the very living crap out of something really, really testosterone-driven just to shut everyone up.

  • Lu

I hate it when these cheesey fun Amercian Idol threads turn into liberal vs conservative. MJ – no offense intended at all. I know people are just stating their opinions and feelings and that’s what we’re supposed to be doing. But it does make me a little sad that conservative and/or Christian is talked about throughout this thread like it’s something bad.
For the record, even though I am a conservative and a Christian, I have very close friends that are gay and I love them unconditionally. Why would I feel any other way? They are my friends – gay or straight – and they are some of the best friends I have.
I have said many times here that I do not particularly Adam’s singing but it has nothing to do with his sexual orientation. I didn’t like the pics that were posted just because of the PDA. If it had been a pic of Kris and his wife tongue kissing, I woudn’t have like that either. Adam’s voice to me is a little screamy and I just don’t like that. I will be the first to admit that he is an amazing performer and I predict he wins idol in a run away. I just can’t figure out why everyone is so worked up about this. Controversial idol news is certainly nothing new.

  • Tess

downeast …. absolutely best post of the entire day! Applause, applause!

  • tinawina

Well Lu if it makes you feel any better, I am as liberal as they come and while I find Adam entertaining, his voice annoys the crap out of me after a while too. And I think he’s too polarizing to win, not just because he’s gay but because he has a very love it or hate it style of singing. So there.

  • Cheeryo

“Fox news is not a Republican network. These are not Republican chicks as you call them. Shaun Hannity is the only Christian and Republican on this network. Oà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢Reily is an independant, Greta is a scientologist, Beck is a Mormon, etcà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.”

    Good to know.

Let’s not forget that in last November’s election, the people of California voted to ban gay marriage (prop 8). California voters also overwhelmingly voted for Obama.

Remember, when you point a finger at someone, three fingers point back at you.

  • jersey

Yeah, I’m with Lu. I hate this too. I come to this blog because I love to discuss AI. After today, I feel totally unwelcome here because I happen to consider myself a Republican. GASP.

I’m sure that many of the people that I have actually met on this board in RL can attest to the fact that I am in no way a fire breathing dragon.

Adam is my favorite. I will vote for him as I have already voted for him. One of my best friends growing up is a gay man who now does behind the scenes work for “Dancing with the Stars”. I love him as much now as I did in high school. Not every Republican is an intolerant idiot as some here seem to believe. Just as I’m sure not every Democrat is an intolerant idiot either.

  • aly

Just wanted to say what well thought out posts that Tess
and Shari G made. Great Job you two. I couldn’t agree more
    I wouldn’t even be
interested in AI this season, if Adam Lambert wasn’t there.

  • tmtpoole24

Bam – I was just remembering the same thing from one of Franken’s books. I need to leave the site now because Fox “noise” gets my blood boiling…hopefully, Adam will have a stellar act tonight.

  • rockvixen

I would love for Adam to get face to face with Bill Reilly and tell him to F*ck off. Then say in front of television whatever dirty sexual secret Bill Reilly has and flash pictures of it. You can’t tell me Bill is puritanical. Bill’s career would be over and Adam’s would skyrocket. Bill’s a judgemental a** wipe.

  • http://www.theBestArts.com theBestArts

Wow – this is quite a thread. I’ve just joined in but have tried to skim most of the comments.

As many of you know, I’m the editor of Adam’s most popular YouTube video, “Adam Lambert Demo Reel 1″. It passed 800,000 views today and is currently running over 100,000 new views/week.

I thank Bill O’Reilly for his comment that the best singer should win. “Best” means a lot of things in a competition. It doesn’t just mean the most talented singer, it means the person who performs the songs most Americans want to hear in the style they most appreciate.

Adam is certainly the most talented singer among the finalists. He is also one of the most likable and personable contestants. Even those who don’t like his singing style have kind things to say about his interviews.

Will Adam win? A lot of that is up to him. So far, Adam hasn’t compromised to try to win votes. He’s been very straightforward with voters about the types of songs he wants to record.

I don’t happen to agree with Adam’s decisions. I love musical theatre and wish Adam would pursue a career in that direction. But it’s his career, not mine – and I appreciate that Adam’s been honest with viewers about his goals.

Should Adam come out more publicly? Adam has already come out, but in a thoughtful, non-intrusive way. On December 31, 2008, after he knew he was an American Idol finalist, Adam performed “What’s Up” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZSHm4x4TGk) at the Upright Cabaret and discussed kissing his co-stars lips. He said about her lips, “and although it’s not necessarily my preference…”

So, Adam has acknowledged that he’s gay but without throwing it in anyone’s face. I thought that was how conservatives wanted the issue handled. Good for Adam – and good for Bill O’Reilly’s featured guests on this clip.

  • thedingoateyobaby

I feel this season as I did in season five. If Adam were not there I wouldnt be watching. I am getting a little tired of the show for one thing and last year I didnt watch at all nor the year before so having Adam on is what keeps me there and that red head Allison.

    Otherwise Im not interested.

Adam appeals to me for a multitude of reasons. He probably doesnt appeal to others for a lot of reasons. You have to go with the one who moves you, who makes you feel alive. Taylor in season 5 and Adam this year. Taylor was never the best singer that year but…IMHO Adam is the best of the lot this year.

  • Sydia

I have always thought that even though Adam is very talented, the show might be “using” him for buzz and ratings, and that as soon as he got too close to winning, crap like what O’Reilly pulled would come out…I personally can’t find anyone from this season to call an “American Idol”. Danny annoys me, but I think he can handle the “molding” from AI producers and record label better than Adam. I can’t see Adam playing along. I hope that if Adam wins or loses it is because of his talent, and not his sexual preference. Who cares really? I think the guy has handled everything pretty well up until now, and as long as he stays true to himself as an artist he will be fine.

  • saramcvt

Well, most people have already expressed my feelings on the matter. I will add that if Adam ever finds the love of his life and wants to get married, COME TO VT BABY! It is a beautiful state for marriage, not civil union, ceremony. I am proud to be a Vermonter! Adam’s Aunt lives in the next town over from me, and I bet after the Billo show, she is very happy today!

  • LaurelG

Yes, but based on stuff like Perez Hiltonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s stupid Twitter, if he wins, it will be said that ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s because heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s gay.

What I think is interesting is that, since the beginning of season 8, Perez has not said word one about Adam. Even in his blog today, nothing about BOR, nothing about the pictures. I think Perez has been tacitly supporting Adam by staying out of it (at least until this Twitter thing). Perez has blogged about AI, Simon and Paula, and he was even in the audience during Lady GaGa’s performance, but the next day, his blog was all about the performance and that’s it. Maybe that will now change.

By the way, I’m not a Perez fan. I think he’s just as much a “hater” as BOR.

  • weareallinnocent

Adam is not looking to be a political figure or call to arms. Adam is trying to start a music/entertainment career not make a statement about gay rights.

While I can’t know what’s in Adam’s head, based on what I’ve seen and heard from him, I believe this to be true. I wish Perez hadn’t Twittered what he did. Support is great, it’s not that. And I’m sure any support is heartwarming and appreciated at some level, particularly given what Adam’s dealing with and likely to deal with in the coming days. But Perez calls for votes because AI needs an openly gay Idol, instead of putting the focus where it should be and where Adam deserves it to be — on his mad talent and amazing performances. :-(

P.S. Congratulations to the citizens of Iowa and Vermont. Good work these past few weeks….

  • gingerly

I don’t see how anybody could be a perez hilton fan. He’s shown himself to be an idiot. He doesn’t deserve anything anybody bestows on him. I see him as a wannabe looking for the best ride he can get. Only he so totally chose the wrong best ride. Fuck you, perez, you lose.

  • downeast

Yes, by all means, congratulations to the citizens of Vermont and IOWA. I mean, IOWA. Gotta love it!

Someday I fervently hope that we will look back on these painful and turgid days with the same sort of contempt that the “colored only” signs invoke in us today.

And, because it deserves to be said again and again, this lovely quote from Tess:

In my heart I know that my God would never condemn anyone for loving and wanting to feel love. Hopefully, in my lifetime this will become the non-issue that it should be!

    Amen.

And they are all obnoxious hating blowhards. As is Ross Limbaugh. It is people like this who give conservatives and republicans a bad image. Why do conservatives and republicans embrace such haters, and then wonder why people have a negative image of them? Hate and fear mongering are harmful and need to stop. I could never be attracted to a party that was represented by these ambassadors. They are a total turnoff.
