Next Week’s group:Â   Megan Corkrey, Kris Allen, Mishavonna Henson, Matt Breitzke, Allison Iraheta, Matt Giraud, Jasmine Murray, Kai Kalama, Jesse Langseth, Adam Lambert, Jeanine Vailes and Nick Mitchell -Â   DANCE! (VIDEO)

Alexis Grace, Michael Sarver and Danny Gokey advance to the Top 12.

I think Anoop Desai, Tatiana Del Toro and, possibly, Ricky Braddy will move on to the Wild Card.   Anoop will move on for sure–I predict he’ll be one of the judges wild card picks for the Top 12.   I’m not even worried about it.

It just dawned on my how chintzy this year’s semi-final performances are. The kids appear to be singing to backing tracks–where is the live band? And they aren’t playing instruments.   It’s like we’re back in Season 3.   Terrible.

Season 7′s Michael Johns and Carly Simpson perform a duet tonight.   And the three singers who move on to the Top 12 sing a reprise.

There were 24 million votes last night–10 million more than this time last year.

Randy says he was pleased with last night.   Kara also thought it was a good show.   Kara name checks Stevie Wright, Casey Carlson and Stephen Wright as those who faltered.

  • Group Song:   “I’m Yours” by Jason Mraz – Casey and Tatiana- double crazy eyes!   Pointy Pose! – VIDEO
  • Ryan Seacrest chats with the contestants.   Jackie Tohn gives her performance last night an A-.   Anoop Desai says he’s the most nervous he’s ever been.   Tatiana Del Toro is covered in Paula’s jewelry and Stevie Wright doesn’t quite get that the judges hated her performance more than her song choice. Casey Carlson admits she picked the wrong song. Randy says she shouldn’t advance, and she doesn’t.   Stephen Fowler says he tried something different, but maybe he should have stuck to his strengths.   Kara says he didn’t do enough to advance…and he doesn’t.   Alexis Grace takes the stage next–she’s the first contestant to advance to the Top 12. She performs her song “I Ain’t Never Loved a Man” – VIDEO
  • Ricky Braddy and Jackie Tohn take the stage.   Jackie sticks by her performance.   She has no regrets. Ricky is not in the Top 12.   And neither is Jackie. Michael Sarver and Anoop Desai take the stage. Michael says his heart is pounding out of his chest. Ryan says, “the person going through to our Top 12 is…Michael”   Anoop “heads home.” Michael sings “I Don’t Wanna Be”   Only 20,000 votes separated   Michael and Anoop.   – VIDEO
  • Next is a video recap of the big American Idol Attraction grand opening in Orlando, featuring Carrie Underwood and David Cook singing “Go Your Own Way” – VIDEO
  • Ryan introduces the next two contestants…and it’s Michael Johns and Carly Smithson!   The airlines lost Carly’s luggage in Orlando.   Michael pimps his single and album.   They sing “The Letter”–recycled from the Season 7 finale.   Well, that was a hot mess. – VIDEO
  • Ryan doesn’t even bother to ask Ann Marie Boskovich, Brent Keith and Stevie Wright to come down to the stage.   They stand at the couches while he tells them what they already know–they aren’t advancing to the Top 12.   With only one spot left, the suspense is over. Everybody knows it’s going to Danny Gokey, who takes the stage with Tatiana Del Toro.   Paula says, after heming and hawing, that Danny should advance. The crowd erupts in applause. Tatiana looks like she’s going to cry.   We have to wait until after the break to find out who advances.   As if we didn’t know.   What a setup. – VIDEO
  • Back from the break, Ryan sends Danny Gokey on to the Top 12 in short order.   Tatiana looks devestated.   Danny sings “Hero”. The camera pans over to his friends sitting in the red room, and one of them holds up a photo of Danny and his dead wife.   SHAMELESS. Still sounding phlegmy, Danny finishes his singout.   That had to be one of the least suspenseful eliminations ever.   I guess the producers thought Tatiana would have a meltdown or something.   She restrained herself, and we were left with Danny in the pimp spot, once again. Ryan introduces next week’s group, and we’re out. – VIDEO

    59 minutes of filler. exciting

  • http://www.myspace.com/gundomom CarieB

Are there problems with chat? Can’t get in.

  • leome

Hey, this I’m Yours is actually sounding good and funny!
    I’m likin it!

  • blissful

I’m surprised at the amount of voting. Ratings go down but not the votes.

Why did Kara and Randy think it was a good show?

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

That just might be the best group performance…ever.

  • ibidrockgo

Hey, they don’t sound too bad.

I don’t understand the popularity of Michael Sarver. Is it because he works on an oil rig? He stage style was cheesy yesterday and even the brief clip in the group sing looked bad again. We’ve seen someone just like him on previous seasons, which I don’t find interesting.

  • wordnerdarchie

I wondered if the song was pre-recorded and they were lip-synching. It just sounded TOOOOOOO good.

  • brie200

I wondered if they were lip synching too. The vocals sounded fine, but the rest of it was a hot mess. Yikes.

  • Tony

Never was a fan of these group songs. It just shows how bad these contestants lack rhythm (especially with the choreography).

  • ettacandy

POINTY POSE!! Loved it, loved it, loved it!

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

Lip synching or not, it was good.

  • brie200

I’m not sure I agree Gwendolyn. It was good if they weren’t. If they were lip syncing then there wasn’t much work on their part, other than dancing around and doing the pointy pose and crazy eyes.

Blissful, I think Kara and Randy aren’t going to admit that a lot of last night wasn’t so great. Then they would have to admit that this isn’t the most talented group evah!

  • Tony

    SURVIVOR IDOL!

  • blissful

Brie — yep, I agree :) Next week HAS to be better.

  • rayni

Good Lord, I love Alexis. Wow.

  • Deejay

That just might be the best group performanceà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ever.

    Really? That’s sad. LOL.

Ugh, this format is awful. “YOU ARE NOT IN THE TOP 12.” i.e. PACK YOUR BAGS AND GO HOME already, all but 3 of you.

  • Dr. Tracey

I’m happy for Alexis, she was by far the best girl last night.

  • leome

This format is really weird. Good for Alexis, and her performance tonight was pretty awesome.

Oh boy, we’ll have to listen to Hero again…

  • surfsuze

I love Alexis too! she’s got soul!

  • surfsuze

West Coaster here trying to get INFO cuz I just can’t stand the WAIT! LOL.

  • ilovetohateai

i am pretty sure its only going to get worse. a drag version of cook (adam lambert) and a female version of cook (von whatevah his last name is)

  • Deejay

    Noooo, Ricky! Stay!

  • surfsuze

what is the FORMAT? anyone ?? can you explain?

  • s0x_prisoner

Ohhh Ricky! :( I hope he gets in through the wild card.

  • Deejay

    Anoop will be back.

  • CathyMK

I’m glad Alexis was safe first. Now I can relax.

I’m thinking the overall TCO isn’t in this group- they’ll save him/her for Group 3, so there’s less time to forget before the finals.

I like the group numbers. It gives us a chance to see different sides of the kids.

This semifinal system is hardest on the middle-of-the-packers, who really should have another couple of weeks. Bye, Ricky and Anoop, see you in the Wild Card round, hopefully. Michael did not deserve that spot over those 2.

  • ilovetohateai

    haha, anoop is GONE!!!!

  • Trina

    NOOOOO ANOOP :( :(

  • hypertwink

Less audience but more votes compared to last year. Hm. I love the spin of “1 vote ~ 1 viewer”

  • Deejay

Why must we hear this terrible performance again? :tongue2_tb:

  • sma11ie

WTF?!?!?!! ANOOOPPP!!! He better get a wild card, or I will throw a fit.

ETA: still not a great vocal from Sarver– he either skipped all the high notes, or croaked them!

  • Hannah Palindrome

Sorry…Do not agree with Sarver over Anoop.

Mike seems like a nice guy, but I think Anoop is the better singer.

  • blissful

I hope Anoop can get the wildcard. Yay, for Alexis!

  • kozisedso

No to Ricky, no to Anoop, and here’s Michael Sarver making me cringe. Aaaarrrrrggggh.

  • s0x_prisoner

    WTF ANOOP!!!

  • CRB

You can lay this one on the judges, he sucked yesterday and still does.

  • Madcap Jester

FUCK! No Tatiana and no Anoop?! Adam, you are my only shining hope in this sea of mediocrity!

Also, WOW, DialIdol got it completely right.

  • Deejay

i am pretty sure its only going to get worse. a drag version of cook (adam lambert) and a female version of cook (von whatevah his last name is)

How is Von anything like Cook? :ponder_tb:

  • Dr. Tracey

    What a crock!!!
    Anoop was robbed!!!!!! :mad_tb:

  • Hisaki

NOOOOOOO, ANOOP! WHAT THE HELL, AMERICA. GRRR.

  • KrazeeK120

I’m OK with this really. I like both Michael and Anoop. I don’t think TPTB would have given Michael a wild card spot but I’m pretty positive that Anoop will get in on the wild card. I knew that one of them wouldn’t get in tonight thanks to Lord Danny, but maybe they’ll both get in anyway through Anoop getting a wild card.

  • latecomer

that was pretty creative editing for recap roll…they put Anne Marie Boskowich in the section of “and then Tatiana started to turn it around” as if he was one of the best singers of the night, when all of the judges said that she really fell short. Seems to me they are trying to setup something now to justify when the producers put her in as a wildcard at the end…

  • snuffles

I knew it was going to be a toss up between Michael Sarver and Anoop. Let’s hope Anoop is brought back for the wild card round.

  • http://idolator.com maura

wow, so are they really giving danny the pimp spot during the elimination show too??

  • brie200

Anoop will probably get a wildcard. I’m not that worried about him.

  • s0x_prisoner

20,000 votes??? are you KIDDING ME!!!!

  • dulce

Well…This is stupid. Now we wait like 30 more minutes for them to tell us that Danny Gokey got the final spot. Whatever. Sarver isn’t going to get that far on this show unless he figures out who he is as an artist. Right now, he’s a good bar singer without any charisma. Simon should have saved the “you have no charisma” line that he gave to Braddy for Sarver. This is stupid.

But to be fair, Anoop did biff it a bit last night. But I think if he gets another chance, he’s got the talent and potential to go deep into the competition. I’m pretty certain that he’ll get a chance in the wildcard round. I feel bad for Braddy who would have done much better with last season’s format, but what can you do?

  • MagazineFreak

Carly looks great! Kind of wish they sang something different.

    God, I miss AI7.

  • blissful

Seems to me they are trying to setup something now to justify when the producers put her in as a wildcard at the endà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

I hope not. But like her or not, she had one of the better female vocals last night, even though it was not hard to do.

  • leome

I can’t believe I have to listen this shouting duet again… and I actually thought Carly was Tatiana for a second…

  • minzhi

OMG!! That is so cool that Michael got in!! He has potential, and like Anoop both didn’t do themselves justice last night. Anoop is a shoo-in for Wildcard.

Did they mention that Michael has the highest vote for guys?

  • http://widyatarina.wordpress.com widz

    ANOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP

    :( :( :( :(

    WILDCARD PLEASE, THANKS.

    ONLY 20,000 DIFFERENCE!!!!!!!!!! DAMN, IT

  • Deejay

Can we return to the splendor of Season 7? Please?

    I love Carly and MJ.

  • ibidrockgo

Carly and MJ really showed the rest how to get it done. What a difference from last night.

  • Trina

I wanted to vote for Carrie and DC after the duet clip LOL

20,000 votes? Ugh screw you Simon.

  • Madcap Jester

I miss season 7. :( Remember when Jason broke out Daydream first episode? The closest thing to that so far is Tatiana and Ricky being surprisingly great, and now they’re gone.

  • brie200

I love Carly, but she was shouting. I’m not a fan of shouting Carly. Don’t get me wrong. Those two are still probably better than anything I saw last night, but that wasn’t a fabulous performance.

  • jnd1221

GAHHHH I really wanted Anoop in. Can we have Carrie and DC back? They sounded/looked amazing.

  • Paula

Carly screamed her way through that duet.

  • mclay

Yay! I liked Michael and Carly duet. It was great.
Loved the David-Carrie duet snippet, too.
Good show tonight, much more entertaining than last night.

  • jbrad

I am glad Michael made it in. I agree that last night wasn’t his best, but if he returns to that wonderful blues style we heard in auditions, he would do so much better. Or maybe just a different country song. We shall see. As for Anoop, I didn’t care if he made it or not, but I do wish Ricky would have made it through. Hopefully, he will get a widcard spot.

Just watched Michael and Carly. They sounded great alone, but did not blend well, IMO> And Michael still can’t dance, but I love him to death!

  • dulce

I don’t think Ryan said that Sarver got the most votes for the guys. That would make no sense anyway. I mean, who would have more votes than Danny Gokey.

  • ohreli

    ANOOP, WildCard!! Yes!!!!

  • mclay

I’m happy about Michael Sarver as well :)

  • http://widyatarina.wordpress.com widz

    :’( :’( :’( :’( :’( :’( :’( :’( :’( :’( :’( :’( :’( :’( :’( :’( :’( :’( :’( :’( :’( :’( :’( :’( :’( :’( :’( :’( :’( :’(

That means Anoop is the fourth ranked or something in the votes..Dial Idol was right. They’ve never gotten it wrong since Season 2 – 97% accuracy last season.

WILDCARD please, producers!! You need Anoop to bring back the college demographic!!

  • danceinsidex3

I wonder if Anoop would’ve made it if they didn’t have to have a girl in there…

  • GeminiDolly

    Stevie has really bad skin

  • http://widyatarina.wordpress.com widz

    Tatiana FTW! lol

  • surfsuze

    I hope DANNY MAKES IT!

  • Madcap Jester

Seriously, what’s the point of the next ten minutes? Everyone knows Danny’s safe. They should have put him through first and have Anoop vs Sarvre last.

  • Hannah Palindrome

Why is Danny Nervous? Hello? I think we know who gets in

  • mclay

We all know it’s Danny…they sucked the suspense out of this by leaving him last.

  • minzhi

Yes. Danny sent many into Lala-Land last night, as with many of my friends. But I didn’t think that performance was that great. The problem I have with Danny is he seems to go out of breath quite often within songs.

No impressive performances from this group, but I thought Ricky really deserved a place for that surprisingly good performance. Please give him a wildcard chance! Anoop also deserves a wildcard chance as he has a really good tone, just wrong song choice.

But I am happy that Michael & Alexis got it. :)

  • CRB

    GeminiDolly Feb 18th, 2009 at 8:50 pm

    Stevie has really bad skin

Yeah, it is likely worse ’cause of the stress. Kady Malloy said she had ginormous pimples that she had never had in her life last year during Idol.

They want Danny to perform last so Paula and Kara can swoon at his greatness.

  • http://www.dancin.ca dancin

they want you to strt worrying.. saying take nothing for granted

and they prolly want him singing last so people will remember him more over the next cpl weeks

  • Jocelin

I didn’t vote last night, but I almost regret not picking up the phone for Anoop because of his awesomeness on this results show.

  • reeboks1

    watch it be tatiana…

  • curlyQ23

I wanted to vote for Carrie and DC after the duet clip LOL

    HEE! Well said, Trina.

Michael and Carly were great. So far, this year’s bunch has nothing on last year’s, IMO. Loved Michael and Carly representing AI7 so well.

  • aly

Carly and Michael Looked Fantastic. The music was a little fast
for them, but their voices are pure gold!!

  • s0x_prisoner

Lol it would be really funny if Tatiana made it in over Danny… but that probably won’t happen.

  • snuffles

The only suspense is wondering if Tatiana will have a nervous breakdown and start physically attacking people when she gets the boot.

  • minzhi

I wouldn’t be surprised that Tatiana got in though. So far she is the one single most talked about contestant this season. But of cos Danny deserves it much more.

  • Carlaria

I just got off of the Danny train. As much as I did not like Tatiana, Danny could at least have reached out to her when she touched him, but he just moved away. I think he’s a real jerk!

  • sma11ie

Wow, that wasn’t even Michael and Carly’s best performance, and still, their mere presence put the S8 contestants to shame. Best talent my butt…

Cute recap of the AIE– I wanted more Cook/Carrie in HD!!

Woo- hoo Matt G next week! I really hope he makes it, especially with Adam in the mix. I’m thinking Megan or Jesse have a shot for girls?

  • Tony

    Talk about a shocker.

  • reeboks1

tatiana could get it so she’s in top 12 bringing in the ratings. then this way they could assure wildcards to gokey and maybe anoop.

  • Deejay

Danny didn’t seem too eager to console Tatiana. :thumbdown_tb:

  • sabby_rina

I’m optimistic!!! Anoop is totally going to make it in the Wildcard. If not, the judges are seriously oblivious. 20,000 votes? Thats pretty close!

Also… did they really have to put Danny and Tatiana at the end to reveal who made it through? I mean really?! Seriously…REALLY?!?! It’s obvious the producers wanted to see a Tatiana melt down.

  • Dr. Tracey

    Ugggghhhhhh!
That’s all i’m going to say about tonight.

  • minzhi

Carlaria: Really? Well but I think not many people can stand Tatiana at the moment. We don’t know what really happens at the background. Still a little more gentlemanly would be cool. ;)

  • surfsuze

I don’t like MICHAEL, a bit bummed about that.. pic. should of been ANOOP!

  • Hisaki

    OMG, DANNY MADE IT?! SHOCKER!

Classy, Dan. Really classy with the “Woo!” there.

  • http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/profile.php?id=587900002&ref=name cruzceleste

The only suspense is wondering if Tatiana will have a nervous breakdown and start physically attacking people when she gets the boot.

Oh the DRAMA AI PRODUCER will L.O.V.E. that…

  • Jx223

I like Michael, but I don’t think that he should have made the top 12 over Anoop and Ricky Braddy, who both IMO, were better than he was last night.

  • mandalay

Why don’t they just put a picture of the dead wife and her tombstone up there on the jumbotron while he sings the song.

    YUCK!

  • surfsuze

did Tatiana melt down? WEST COASTER HERE!

  • jammasta

I don’t think one moment justifies that judgment, he was probably pretty surprised. I mean, it’s not like nobody has acted that way before. Then again, I haven’t watched it yet, but I still don’t think what he did really warrants that sort of thought.

Anyway, I’m glad Michael got in the top 12, he was one of my favorites! Anoop is a shoo-in for Wildcard, I won’t be mad about his getting kicked off until the wildcard thing. Kinda disappointed that he didn’t get in, but I’ll save my anger for if he doesn’t get a Wildcard pick.

Alexis and Tatiana were the only two girls who were pretty good last night, and as I do really dislike Tatiana I’m very happy to see it go to Alexis.

  • CRB

Good gawd, Danny is a creep. The dude makes my skin crawl. Somebody tell again what appealing about this guy? Hero my ass!

  • wolfsbane813

i would have laughed my ass off if tatiana actually beat danny out for the last spot. hahaha and he came back in the wc…

  • leome

    Can Simon look more bored??

  • snuffles

So who is the next group of 12?

  • http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/profile.php?id=587900002&ref=name cruzceleste

    Please wildcard Ricky!!!!!!!!

  • Madcap Jester

I guess God’s love goes to everyone but the crazies, eh, Danny? Nice.

  • surfsuze

I’m disappointed to hear you guys say Danny was a “POOP” I’m thinking his head is getting to big for his britches?!?!

I can’t wait to see what you all are talking about! THANKS FOR THE UPDATES..

You helped an anxious WEST COASTER HERE! KISSES!

  • jnd1221

My lord, group 2 is tough. Adam, Matt, and Kris are all favorites of mine so far. Gah, I HATE this format. Of course, we thought everyone in group 1 would be good too and look how that turned out. Anoop for the wild card!

  • Hannah Palindrome

    I really don’t understand Danny’s appeal.
I have to admit I’m not a big fan of any of the three that were selected.
The only AI singers I have liked are Kelly Clarkson & David Cook. Everyone else just fades into the background. I know Carrie Underwood is a big country star, but she never appealed to me.

    AI-BRING BACK ANOOP!
    IF MATT GIRAUD GOES HOME…GRRRRRRRRRR…

  • minzhi

Well I think Michael was okay last night. I agree Ricky is better though. I think Ricky outsang all the guys, including Danny. But he does not have the X Factor at the moment, and he was unknown until last night.

But I’m pleased with the results.

  • Fender

Did Danny’s reaction come across as douche-y to anyone else? I’m not sure if I’m biased or not LOL

  • SparklesATL

Take a close look at Alexis when she performs. Every now and then she has a very strong resemblance to Dolly Parton.

Please tell me I’m not the only one who see’s it!

  • http://widyatarina.wordpress.com widz

Did Dannyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s reaction come across as douche-y to anyone else? Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not sure if Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m biased or not LOL

Me. Couldn’t he have embraced Tatiana first before cheering for himself??

  • Carlaria

Anoop will be back as a wild card. No doubt. I’m sorry about Ricky Braddy, though. He had potential.

  • leome

Did Dannyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s reaction come across as douche-y to anyone else?

LOL For those of us who don’t like him, yes, we can say so. Hug first, celebrate last.

  • mandalay

I guess Godà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s love goes to everyone but the crazies, eh, Danny? Nice.

The real question is which ones are really the crazies. The man makes my skin crawl.

  • idolbeat

IDK, kind of a lackluster threesome – ok to good singers but not jumping up and down performances.

group 2 has much more potential : Adam, Matt, Jasmine, Allison, Jesse!

  • jammasta

Not a huge fan of the format, either. Bringing back the group rounds was bad, as was this somewhat strange top 36 to 12 change.

  • jpfan

Wow, what a suckfest. I especially appreciated

    1. the “suspense” of whether Danny would make it to the final 12. Especially since Z100 (my radio station) gave out the DialIdol spoilers this morning and nailed all three.

    2. the close ups of Tatiana. Very classy.

    3. The picture of Danny and his dead wife held up by his “family and friend”

    4. the mega creepy vibe Danny put out standing next to Tatiana.

    5. Simon’s sour and bored expression at the end. I’m there with you dude.

  • surfsuze

HOPE DANNY READS these BLOGGS? BOARDS… maybe he’ll pop that big head… before it does him in?

  • Zsus

If they’re bringing back 12 for wildcard, maybe they’ll bring 4 from each group. In that case, I pick Anoop (for sure), Ricky or Brent. I wouldn’t be surprised if they brought back Tatiana for yucks. The only other female I think they’d have in wildcard from this group is Jackie. Out of those, Anoop and Ricky both have a good shot at Final 12.

BTW, HUGE congrats, MJ, on your mention in Entertainment Weekly. :smile_wp:

  • St.Lucia

Ig ot all my 20 points in the pool! I bet on the one sure win!!!! The gospel singer of the night!

But that is ONE SUCKY THREESOME.

Michael Sarver(who I think is Mr. Constipated, sorry Michael) gets through.

    Don’t worry Anoop!

    I have faith you’ll be a wildcard.

  • mclay

And I can’t believe Danny’s friend/family held a picture of his dead wife ON PURPOSE for the cameras!!! Now we know it’s not the producers, it’s Danny himself exploiting his wife’s death. Unbelievable. I’m officially on the against-Danny wagon. Plus, I don’t like his performance all that much. His voice cracks on the high notes.

  • Niall

I’m genuinely surprised Danny was such an obvious douchebag up there. I’m almost certain based on his demeanor that he knew he was in via dialidol. Would it have killed him to hug Tatiana first, you know, like a gentleman?? 99% of the time when you have a “your in/your out” elimination on this show the winner shows class and consoles the loser first. Danny Douchebag has earned his name.

Don’t even get me started on the person holding the picture of Sophia up for the camera. Emotional manipulation at its absolute worst. I’m sure the next step will be “do it for Sophia” t-shirts.

  • MaryS-NJ

I don’t care if Danny hugged Tati before or after he celebrated. I think he deserved to get through based on his performance, as did Alexis. I think Ricky and Anoop were both better than Michael and Ricky should have gotten the third spot – based on performance.

  • surfsuze

yeah.. put the dead wife to rest… its a pitty party.

I was a fan, until after reading what you all related out…

man…. that sucks.. I just hope that cry baby Nathaniel Marshall doesn’t get through… or I’ll just croak myself!

Danny can’t use that dead wife thing for long.. we all have loss…. better start being about HIM and NOT HER.. real soon.

  • yeahyeahsure

Ok, ok, ok. We get it already. Your wife died. Was flashing that pic really necessary?! Talk about exploiting. :wallbash_tb: Douchebag.

  • soundscene

They should have left Michael and Anoop for last. Zero suspense–anybody with half a brain knew Danny would make it.

Anoop better be wildcarded or my mom will be upset (he’s her favorite this year).

  • LK09

Take a close look at Alexis when she performs. Every now and then she has a very strong resemblance to Dolly Parton.

Please tell me Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not the only one who seeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s it!

I said this same thing last night, so you are not the only one.

  • St.Lucia

And I canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t believe Dannyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s friend/family held a picture of his dead wife ON PURPOSE for the cameras!!! Now we know ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not the producers, ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Danny himself exploiting his wifeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s death. Unbelievable. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m officially on the against-Danny wagon. Plus, I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t like his performance all that much. His voice cracks on the high notes.

Okay I totally missed this…but I watched and entire 30 minute sitcom(no commercials) in the time american Idol took to announce the top 3.

ETA: Because I wasn’t done, but that just makes ME SICK. You’re right…producers can’t be blamed now. I mean I can see him drawing inspiration from her, but can’t her memory alone do that? Does the PICTURE have to be there to remind the viewing audience?

  • amnicr

Ohhhh Danny. I want to like you. I really do. Your voice is decent…..but I agree with some of the other posters here. The way he reacted when he got Top 12 just seemed to be full of a whole lot of arrogant. I’m sure he was excited, but everyone knows it’s common courtesy to play it off like you’re not freaking out from happiness when someone standing next to you just got their dream crushed– no matter how loopy they may be.

And as for the other Top 12-ers. I was happy for Alexis. Not so thrilled about Michael.

Next week is going to be brutal. I like a lot of the people in that group……particularly Adam and Matt….. this will be interesting to see how it all plays out.

  • saramcvt

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m genuinely surprised Danny was such an obvious douchebag up there. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m almost certain based on his demeanor that he knew he was in via dialidol. Would it have killed him to hug Tatiana first, you know, like a gentleman??

Donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t even get me started on the person holding the picture of Sophia up for the camera. Emotional manipulation at its absolute worst. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m sure the next step will be à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“do it for Sophiaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ t-shirts.

I logged on here to just say that Danny showed his true colors tonight, and they were pretty dreary. I have never seen a male contestant treat a female contestant in this sort of position so coldly. Granted Tatiana is a weird drama queen, but she was clearly upset and didn’t know how to react. I have gone from liking to this guy to disdain (and don’t even get me started on the exploitation of his “back story.”

  • jpfan

The way they handle themselves on elimination nights really counts for alot.
Plus Danny had to know he was a lock. I’m sure all the contestants check DialIdol and he was the judge’s clear favorite. Kudoes to Rickey who really was in suspense for standing there like a gentleman with his partner and holding her hand( maybe he knows he’s a sure thing for wild card.)

Actually every guy out there was a non douche except for Danny the grieving widower.

  • DoubleA

Does everyone realize that 1 of these six guys is GUARANTEED a spot in the finals?!?!?

    Jorge Nunez
    Alex Wagner-Trugman
    Ju’Not Joyner
    Nathaniel Marshall
    Scott MacIntyre
    Von Smith

It’s absurd! How are Matt Giraud and Lambo in the same week?!?!?

  • flicker

I tried to give him a fair chance, but tonight sent me over the edge. It’s official — I hate that creepy Danny Gokey.

  • Joanna S.

This is one of the worst results shows I’ve ever watched. I freaking hate, hate, HATE this format. I actually feel bad for Tatiana. Watching tonight, I cannot believe that I ever liked Danny. I agree he acted like a douchebag. It’s apparent now that when they say “A guy is going to win this year” that they actually mean Danny. And the miserable part is that America’s buying into the hype.

Anoop should make Wildcard, but the judges also loved Ricky so I hope they don’t pick Ricky over Anoop. If Anoop is not in the Top 12 I am not going to be watching anymore this season. I will vote for the girls or for whoever is being endorsed by VFTW. If Anoop doesn’t make the Wildcard, then the only people I can see competing with Danny are Adam and Lil, maybe Ricky and Matt G.

  • s0x_prisoner

*sigh* I’m scared for next week. Matt Giraud better make it through… it’s tough though, Adam has so many fans! And then there’s Nick Mitchell. Hmm. :/

  • primeminister

The way they handle themselves on elimination nights really counts for alot.

    It does. doesn’t it.

Danny FAILED tonight. (Plus his glasses were darn UGLY).

  • Lexus

Admittedly, I’m disappointed that neither Anoop or Ricky made it. Still, I fully expect to see them in the Wildcard round. I hate the new format that dictates a female needs to go forth. For the sake of credibility, the best performers should go forth.

I like Danny – he’s talented and an obvious frontrunner, but something about him doesn’t sit well with me. Still, he deserved to be in the top 3 tonight. Fair’s fair.

Thank GOD Adam performs next week because I know I’d never be able to wait a third week. Now the shows really about to start……

  • jpfan

Of course since the judges get to pick three more finalists, the amount of manipulation going on is massive. Build Danny as the creepy CO and bring the true ringer in as your wildcard. I’m sure that’s the plan.

  • St.Lucia

Oh man. I purposely avoided Danny. I knew he was a lock so after I saw Anoop lost to Mr. Constipation I went ahead and just stopped watching. (except I did watch MJ and Carly…too cute!)

I’m almost contemplating rewinding my DVR to see his douchebagness in action because all who said that elimination nights really count for a lot, is right. That’s the time to be a class act.

I was over Danny in Hollywood…

Now I don’t think I can think of the words to describe what I think about it. I’m frustrated that America is going to fall for this garbage(my sister included) hook line and sinker.

  • hypertwink

The Widower got through? Really?! I was hoping for it but I wasn’t sure he’d make it since he had so little airtime before the semi-finals . I was afraid he’d fall through the cracks since AI viewers are notoriously known for voting for contestants who have been featured in the auditions and Hollywood Week. I’m so happy. Woohoo.

  • chicksineggz

Wow Danny, way to have class. [/sarcasm]
Yeah, I agree with everyone. He is a douche.

The people on the AI boards are getting pissed that I hate Danny.

  • St.Lucia

Thank GOD Adam performs next week because I know Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d never be able to wait a third week. Now the shows really about to startà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

I NEED Adam. I made sure to watch the lineup at the end(and I got worried because his name didn’t show up fast enough and I thought I’d have to wait another week). That sadly(minus Carly and MJ) made the episode for me…a glimpse of Adam and some of the others like Matt G.

  • longsong

Yeah, and did you see how while he was singing, Danny was tapping out, “My wife died, vote for me! Jesus is Lord!” in morse code with his foot?!! TURD.

  • snuffles

MJ – can you put up the Group 2 Dance of Dorkiness PLEASE!!!!!???

  • star

Adam, you better BRING IT next week! No diva songs, plz! :nono_tb:

  • SparklesATL

Seems like I”m the one dissenting opinion. The dead wife thing has played out for me too, but I encourage everyone to watch the ending again.

**NO ONE**gave a hoot about Tat. Everyone rallied around Danny. There were a few cursory fake hugs from a couple of the girls after congratulating Danny.

I got the feeling that EVERYONE is fed up with her and pretty much blocked her existence out of their memory banks.

  • longsong

I agree, Sparkles. I still like Danny and will just wait and see.

  • SpenserJ

I tried to give him a fair chance, but tonight sent me over the edge. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s official à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ I hate that creepy Danny Gokey.

Welcome to my world :) Danny’s ego is HUGE, and he’s fakety, fakety, fake.

Danny FAILED tonight. (Plus his classes were darn UGLY).

The entire collection is ugly. By the way – that’s a lot of prescription glasses for one guy to pay for. Do you think they’re a fake fashion statement? Or, maybe that’s what the charity is for?

Well I think Michael was okay last night. I agree Ricky is better though.

Ricky was okay for me. But I like Michael a lot. He’s more fun for me. Plus he has pretty eyes. I would happily trade Danny for Anoop. But since i can’t I’ll have to hope that one of those judge morons is smart enough to wild-card Anoop.

  • danceinsidex3

Awww…I like Kris Allen. Its really sad that he doesn’t stand a chance. :(

And why would they put Matt and Adam in the same group? Yikes. That sucks. I hope hope hope they both make it through, but it might be tough. And America’s decision to vote in Michael over Anoop gives me little hope for both of them.

I’ve been saying all along that I’d eventually grow sick of Danny. And its happened. I have little to no tolerance for him now. And its sad because he was an early favorite of mine. I’ve never, ever turned on a favorite before. Guess there’s a first for everything.

Oh, and I did not like the arrangement of the group song at all.

  • http://kmantoniva.blogspot.com/ KristiVA

I love it here! All my friends LOVE Danny but I can’t stand him. I’m glad I’m not the only one!!!

    Wow, you noticed that too.

I would never had known but my father is currently visiting and he used to work the teletype machine during the Korean war and picked up the code immediately.

  • mclay

Yeah, I don’t know about next week. If Adam and Matt don’t screw up, they should be a lock for the top 12 and then a girl.

If the wild card will end up bringing back one extra person from each original group, I hope for Anoop or Ricky from this one.

For group 3, I’m rooting for Jorge Nunez among the guys.

I really don’t care about any of the girls this year, um, weird.

  • s0x_prisoner

MJ (or anyone else), do you know how the judges are going to pick those who make it to wild card night?

  • baxter

Well thanks to whom ever called Danny a douchebag…cause that’s my new nickname for him after tonight…Danny Douchebag. When you win/advance you consol/applaude/hug the loser. You do not let out a big WOOOOOOOOOO and ignore the person next to you.

Don’t get me started on his highschool chemistry goggles he was wearing…just NO.

ANd yep….the teeshirt with the deceased wife’s pic and a number to call to donate to the charity are next. Serioulsy, to whip out her picture on tv…..just shaking my head! That wasn’t TPTB doing it but Danny Douchebags own friends and family. Tacky is the mildest word I can think to use.

Anoop will get a wildcard. I have no worries about that. With as close as the votes were between he and Michael, the judges would be stupid not to advance him to the wildcard round.

YAY for Adam, Matt G, and Jesse next week. Anything would be an improvement over this week.

You’re right DoubleA. The only guy I care about on this list is Nathaniel. I think that he is talented and could be entertaining in the top 12. But I don’t care about the rest of the guys that much, and would rather see Anoop and Ricky Braddy get in the top 12 before them.

I kind of wish that they had put Adam and Matt in separate groups, but I hope that they both get through to the top 12 as the top male vote getter and third highest vote getter. I would like to see Jesse get through as the highest female vote getter.

  • Madcap Jester

I can think of at least one other contestant that celebrated like mardi gras whenever they didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t get eliminated and still won.

I . . . really can’t? Not when they were put through the whole down-to-the-wire it’s-you-or-the-other one on one elimination, at any rate. Granted, I can’t remember most of the elimination shows, but as far as I recall, the winners usually never cheered and at least gave their competition a hug or tried to console them. Of course, I’ve never hated on a contestant the way I hate on Danny, so perhaps it’s just my personal bias . . . but I know for certain Cook always comforted the booted contestants, Jordin tended to cry and hug those who left, Fantasia nearly made me cry when it was between her and Jennifer Hudson and she shouted “YOU are my American Idol”, etc. Maybe Hicks did it, but I never cared for Hicks anyway.

  • St.Lucia

Agreed, I actually wanted Tatiana to go through instead of Danny. :X

I was actually seriously hoping for that upset. I kept flipping back and forth and saw those two standing there and I thought wouldn’t it be nice….

Because CRAZY annoying I can take over disingenuous douchebag anyday!

  • gingerly

I feel I did give Danny a fair chance. I still like his voice. I just don’t happen to like his song choices so far nor do I like his actions. I actually like Tatiana’s voice but would never dream of voting for her either. So far, I haven’t voted but I’m delighted to see that Alexis got through…and for whoever mentioned it, she does look quite a bit like Dolly Parton sans the cartoon body.

  • longsong

Nothing like a nice, refreshing douche….

  • mclay

Was it just me, or did you guys see Simonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s expression?

I did. I thought he wasn’t very happy with Danny’s performance, but not sure what really was on his mind.

Did you also see Paula dancing while Danny singing and kind of awkwardly stopping/slowing down and looking toward Kara when his voice cracked again (it was the same last night) on the high notes? I think Paula’s love for him will soon fade away, too.

  • KrazeeK120

Next week, I want Nick/Norman to sing Weird Al’s “White and Nerdy.” That would make my LIFE. And I would vote endlessly for him.

**NO ONE**gave a hoot about Tat. Everyone rallied around Danny. There were a few cursory fake hugs from a couple of the girls after congratulating Danny.

Jackie Tohn, Casey Carleson and Stevie Wright all consoled her. In fact, Stevie was in the background while Danny was singing, right next to Tatiana and hugged her or turned around to speak with her at least twice. And I distinctly remember yesterday, after Stevie was ripped apart, seeing Tatiana greet her warmly and supportively. I’m sure she does get on their nerves but she’s a person too and snubbing is soooooooo high school.

  • miknge

Yay for Alexis Grace making it to the top 12!

Yup, most of them weren’t particularly considerate of her. But Danny (luck of the draw…sorry, man) was the one standing beside her for the results. It’s kind of an unwritten rule that it’s his role to console her. That’s just how it goes.

ETA: Also, most of them were out, too, so they also needed consoling (from the people who were in).

  • m5carolin

I’m so sad about Anoop! :( Hopefully he’ll be the wildcard pick. Seeing Michael and Carly made it a little better, I guess

I am already so nervous about next week. Matt and Adam are my two favorites, and I am from Matt’s hometown. Those two better get in, but then we have crazy Nick Mitchell…yikes.

I too am wondering about the morse code comments.

It’s going to be so tough for him with Adam in the group. Adam is a shoe in for sho.
I think Matt also has many fans or he doesn’t? He is going to need a killer performance to make it. I really hope he doesn’t screw up after that fantastic Hollywood week. Crossing fingers.

I am still surprised that Anoop didn’t go through. He had so much more fans than Michael IMO. Oh well. Let’s hope they choose Rickey or him for the wildcard.

  • Grammie Kari

If the wild card will end up bringing back one extra person from each original group, I hope for Anoop or Ricky from this one.

I felt sorry for Anoop because he has such a great fan support. Now, it is my understanding that the person next in votes behind the TOP 3 chosen whill be in the W/C round. I figure that would be the chance for Anoop to get in. This was the purpose of revealing the 20,000 vote difference, right?

I do hope Michael and Danny improve during the course of the competition. For me, neither has the stage persona and appeal of the TOP 6 guys from last year.

  • Madcap Jester

. . . pretty sure the morse code comments are sarcasm, guys. Although it would amuse me to no end if they were true. It would also explain why his sing-out (sing-in?) sucked – can’t be too easy trying to both sing and tap out Morse Code at once.

  • freakalweek

I think Danny deserves to be in the top 12 he is a very good singer, I think he will stop talking about his wife that passed on eventually, but alot of singers myself included uses life experiences to motivate and inspire them when they sing, so it is understandable that his wifes death has inspired him, now the picture may not have even been his idea, so you can’t really put the blame on him for something that he may not even be behind. As far as not hugging Tatiana, I don’t really blame him, she is a huge Drama Queen like Simon said, and if the tables had been turned she wouldn’t have given him the time of day and hugged him, and hopefully they don’t bring the drama queen back. I do agree though that Michael does not deserve to be in the top 12 and don’t understand how in the world he made it because he pretty much sucks. Well I hope everyones favorite makes it through.
    Blessed Be

Hicks is a real Southern Gentleman, an he was alway empathetic for those who lost. Most of the Idols are as they all have stressed together. This is the first elimination so I’ll give Danny a pass this time, but he needs to watch that. Next week will be a real test as there are more of my early favorites in group 2.

  • cay

Blah. I agree that neither Danny nor Michael has the talent or presence of top 12 last year. Everything about Danny has me turned off. I wish him well, and a great life, but I’d never cast a vote for him. I’ve never disliked a contestant as much as I do him. (And I even enjoyed Sanjaya’s run) (and imo Cook NEVER had the attitude Danny has)

But I LOVED Alexis. She’s my new love!

Week 3 seems a lock for Scott, Lil and Von. Week 2, I have no idea!! Matt G seems to be the front runner and he’s got the same smile that Michael Sarver has so I think he’ll do well across America. The girls could be strong. I hope it’s a much better week.

Last night, I wrote that there would be a “little more conversation” about Danny. Oh, I was right, but there will be more in regards to his religion.

  • erennick

My thoughts- I loved the group sing. I thought they sounded really good. I’m thrilled Alexis made it and she sounded great. I still like Danny and think he deserved to move on. I am more disappointed that Michael moved on over Anoop or Rickey. Michael will go out in 12th or 11th place, after Simon (who rallied the “nice guy” vote for him) crushes his spirit in the finals. AND- I can’t believe they didn’t even bring Brent, Anne Marie, or Stevie down to the center of the stage. Guess their chances for a wildcard spot are pretty non-existent.

That take on IÂ ´m yours was HORRIBLE… Archie sang it better with being able to heard himself… No Rickey… me sad… I don-t hate Danny but IÂ ´m not rooting for him… at this point I want someone to break on stage or something really amazing to happen ..

    Nevermind.

I almost deleted this. Petitions are a COMPLETE waste of time.

I CANNOT STAND DANNY GOKEY. OMG, I am more annoyed with him than Tatiana and Nathaniel combined. I don’t think I’ve ever been this peeved at an AI contestant before. Total douchebag.

  • bean99

I saw nothing wrong with Danny being excited he made the top 12 for a second before he hugged Tatiana. She was being her usual drama queen self through his whole song. This could be a long season for me around here being a Danny fan, lol. I was happy to see both Danny and Alexis (she was even better tonight) make the top 12 but totally bummed that Anoop didn’t. I hope he’s a lock for a wildcard spot. I really didn’t think Michael sounded like a finalist but he is a nice guy and this will really help him.

Loved seeing Michael and Carly. He looked really, really good. :wub_tb: Carly’s usually really pretty but hated her makeup tonight.

  • yeahyeahsure

Are instruments not allowed yet? When would they be allowed?

  • Grammie Kari

MJ, I thought I read else where, and then here that the TOP 4 vote getter will be in the Wild Card round including other choices. If I locate the article, I will quote it. Yes, TPTB are in control.

I think Alexis would have been just fine with the Season 7 girls, but Michael and Danny need more energy!

  • catdog

    Happy for Danny
    Can’t wait for Adam
    Hoping Ricky makes Wildcard

Can’t believe Michael Sarver beat out Anoop – there’s nothing special about Michael – sorry Sarver fans but come on – he’s not a better singer than Ricky or Anoop!!!

The posts above talking about Dannyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s morsecode. Is that sarcasm or is it fact? LOL. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m too upset to decipher snarky comments right now.

My comment was a joke, the person who originated that I can’t say for sure but I’m guessing a joke as well.

Then on Thursday, March 5, Fox will air a special “Wild Card” performance episode that will feature each semifinalist group’s highest remaining votegetter who didn’t already get to automatically advance to the finals will get a second chance to perform along with several additional semifinalists that the judges will select.

“They [will be able to] make that fourth show up to probably about nine or ten people, we haven’t quite decided yet,” Warwick explained.

After all the “Wild Card” semifinalists perform, the judges — not the show’s home viewers — will immediately select three of them to complete the season’s twelve finalists.

Warwick better keep to his word. But AI producers rarely do.

Taylor Hicks is on Fox5 News in New York. He’s in the studio, coming up at the end in their Idol gossip segment.

  • artimice

ahhh. i know casey was horrible yesterday.
but i really hope she getss to be in the wildcard.

she honestly picked a bad song for herself.

    yes shes not the best.
but she is decent. and that song didnt show what she was made of.

  • cookcricket

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d love to see Ricky Braddy and Anoop back for the wildcard.

ME TOO! Esp. Ricky! Number of wildcard group anyone? Bueller? Lol.

  • Grammie Kari

Petitions are a COMPLETE waste of time.

That’s right, but purchasing Anoop’s song off iTunes might influence TPTB. Regardless, I cannot imagine a TOP 12 without Anoop. He seems like such a sweet guy with a GOOD voice.

    Danny was a major disappointment.

  • artimice

does anyone else think casey carlson will be picked to be a wildcard by one of the judges?

    maybe kara? :help_tb:

  • ashes07

how come ryan kept saying “you will not be in the top 12″ because actually the rest of the contestants still have a chance at making the top 12 through the wild card right??

  • mclay

Hm, Fox5 News NY just said something interesting — what time exactly you perform on show might matter — yesterday, between 9:00-9:30 when Idol had the most viewers, the three performers were Casey, Michael and Ann Marie. Michael got through, it might have something to do with more people seeing his performance and him standing out in that slot time.

Hm…Does this undermine our ‘pimp’ spot theory a bit? Is singing last really best? Today, for example I was happy they ran the David-Carrie duet a little after 8:30 (I’m a DC fan, so viewed this as important promo). I was certain there wouldn’t be that many viewers at the beginning and the end of the show. But also, TPTB wanted to promote the AI Experience and look when they ran the ad.

  • yeahyeahsure

does anyone else think casey carlson will be picked to be a wildcard by one of the judges?

    maybe kara?

Doubt it. Kara dislikes the pretty girls who can outshine her.

  • artimice

Doubt it. Kara dislikes the pretty girls who can outshine her.

    ahaha.
    true truee.

but she did say last night that she had high hopes for casey. and she again mentioned the whole package.

ahh. poor casey. she was my idol. lol

  • mclay

edit: Stick to the subject. Season 8.

  • jz

I’m excited for next week’s group – especially Adam and Matt G. – here’s hoping they do much, much, much better than Group 1.

Man, if only we Anoop fans called in 20,000 more times…
Well, aNoop Dog will definitely be in the wildcard round, so on the bright side, he still has a chance!

  • http://www.myspace.com/swood1104 Sarah

As if I ever had any doubt, it’s official now that I do. not. like Danny Gokey, aka Lord Douchebag. I don’t think I’ve ever hated an AI contestant as much as I hate him. Ugh! Ugh, ugh, UGH!

Now I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think I can think of the words to describe what I think about it. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m frustrated that America is going to fall for this garbage(my sister included) hook line and sinker.

You and me both, sistah. All of my friends and coworkers are drooling as much as the judges. I’m so glad I have my mj’s peeps and chat buddies. I would go out of my mind if I didn’t.

Can’t wait to see Adam, Matt, Jesse, and Megan next week!!

Adam. One request. Please never, never, NEVER sing Celine, Babs, or Bette on AI. Or you can no longer be my tv boyfriend. Okay? Okay.

  • bean99

Casey wasn’t impressive at all last night and I don’t even remember her before the top 36. I doubt she’s in the running for a wildcard spot. There are a few girls in the next group that could be there or even get the 3rd highest spot. I’m sure Adam is a lock for some reason but I prefer Matt so hope he makes it. I just hope that neither Nathaniel nor Von make the top 12 in the 3rd group.

  • Madcap Jester

Yay, Anoop! -Pauler seal claps- Also, this means I have to worry less for Adam or Matt, because both of them are guaranteed at least top four (hopefully?). Or Adam at any rate, who I have desperately latched on to now that my first two favorites have been booted. I am not sold on Giraud yet. I really hope that Nick/Normund comes out with an actually funny performance, instead of just singing something in a weirdly affected way, because we need at least one of the crazies in our top 12!

Because that sounds oh so much more dramatic than running through the wild card nonsense on every person.

  • Niall

From group one, I think Anoop and Tatiana as wildcard candidates is a foregone conclusion. After them I think perhaps Stevie Wright, Ricky Braddy and/or Ann Marie Boskovich. Given how this show wants to have “types,” if Matt Giraud makes it through group 2 I’d almost bet they’ll skip over Ricky. I can’t see them both in the top 12.

i agree. to me casey wanst impressive at all last night.
she was good in her auidtion. kind of did show that she may do well later.
they never showed her during hollywood week. which was a totally bummer.
at this point. i dont know who they may call into the wildcard.

how is that going to work? is every judge going to pick 3 each. whick will make 12 wildcard people. then from that. they are gonna pick 3 to go into the final round?

    is that all correct?

  • holeighannie

I’ve looked into this Kris Allen guy and I really like what I’ve heard, but I’m afraid he’s going to have no chance against all those big namers in next week’s group. Hopefully one of the judges is a fan! That being said, next week looks like it will be much more entertaining than this one. I hope this next group knows how to pick songs for themselves.

  • chicksineggz

Hm… was gonna try to stay out of the Danny wildfire since I don’t love or hate him as others here do, but maybe I’ll just put in my 2 cents as a somewhat unbiased perspective, I guess. I’m not rooting for him cuz he doesn’t do it for me musically, but I’m also giving him the benefit of the doubt. The photo was tacky but his friend was the one who showed it, and even if it had his okay, I’m thinking it’s more bad judgment than a blatant play for sympathy. You know how people have good luck charms for performances, sports, etc. I don’t think he’s being disingenuous when he’s said he was doing this for his wife, and her memory is what motivates him. Creepy as that is to me, and gross as it makes me feel to see it on TV, everyone deals with grief differently, and I’ll just look away rather than judge. As for his reaction to being safe, I do wish he looked a bit more gracious, but I think it’s hard for the contestants to realize how they might come off on camera at first, besides which, Tatiana was SO ANNOYING. Okay, that’s all.

Oh, on another note, where the heck is the house band? Am I missing something? Is this old news?

  • t2

Alexis Grace earned her seat, and it didn’t hurt that the other women were horrible. For the guys, performance order was sooooooo crucial. IMO if Anoop and Michael Sarver’s order were changed, Anoop stays and Sarver goes. I love both, so this was hard for me.

At least next week we won’t have the !!Gokey!! show and maybe I can find some love for my show again — cuz I surely hated this week.

Taylor Hicks is on Fox5 News in New York. Heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s in the studio, coming up at the end in their Idol gossip segment.

  • Lys

Huh?? Matt and Ricky are waaaay different.

Yeah. Last night, Ricky sounded like a watered-down version of Clay, while Matt has that soulful, raspy sound… Plus, Matt’s a pretty strong musician, and we’ve yet to see Ricky’s skills at either arranging a song or playing an instrument. So yeah, I don’t really see that many similarities, lol.

I’m glad Danny got in over Tatiana. I’m not even gonna pretend I wanted her in the Top 12. Hopefully she’s not a wildcard. Please, please, please, please, please…..

what part of the show did the group song happen?

    im a west coaster.

and i wanna be able to recordd casey.
    soo anyone knoww?

  • MaryS-NJ

Yup, most of them werenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t particularly considerate of her. But Danny (luck of the drawà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦sorry, man) was the one standing beside her for the results. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s kind of an unwritten rule that ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s his role to console her. Thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s just how it goes.

ETA: Also, most of them were out, too, so they also needed consoling (from the people who were in).

Danny’s – is kind of damned if does, damned if he doesn’t in that place. If he celebrates his making the top 12 before consoling the drama queen he’s a douche. If he consoled the drama queen first, then it risks becoming all. about. her. – again.

I guess Tatiana’s potential for histrionics disturbs me more than Danny’s belated consolation of her. And yes, I recall the scorn heaped on a certain past season winner who expressed his celebration loudly upon making the top 12. It didn’t stop me from liking him either.

Yes, I’m interested in hearing him too. I have hopes of Matt Giraud and Jesse Langseth getting through next week. I’m wondering if each judge gets to choose a wild card from each group to make up 12 wild cards. Hopefully since Pauler mentioned Ricky Braddy early on that means she may pick him. I know there may be some surprises and someone may actually go back to the top 50 for wild card, but I’m wondering how many will actually be singing on wild card night, or if this is just not known at this point.

I’m soooo happy that Alexis got through. Happy that Michael Sarver got through because he seems to be such a good guy. I’m still trying to figure out how genuine Danny is. This is hard since I have never lost a spouse myself and don’t know how I would be under these circumstances, esp. if I had a goal in mind in memory of this person.

The saddest thing for me about tonight is that I missed the show because my local paper had it scheduled for 9-10pm EST.Ugh! Waiting for all vids.

  • kiyani_44

You have to look at this both ways. The second Tatiana was called down to the floor with Danny, she knew she was going home. She really should have kept it together, instead of sobbing down there the whole time having a panic attack. As usual she tried to make everything all about her, and Danny didn’t buy into it. He did not taper his emotions down to cater to poor drama queen Tatiana like everyone else. When his name was announced she should have gratiously smiled and hugged him, as any runner up would do. When Michael made it over Anoop, he celebrated and Anoop congratulated him.

edit: you need to read my guidelines before you post here again.

  • mclay

edit: And I’m serious as a heart attack about NOT wanting off topic stuff in these thread. I don’t want the show threads de-railed with past contestant stuff. Put your Taylor news in the headlines thread where it belongs, please.

    ETA: Sorry, MJ :)

  • Michelle

Oh. Well, at least Alexis got through.

Thanks widz for posting that article about the Wildcard round…still seems to me it’s just a free pass for TPTB to stack a full quarter of the Top 12 with their own choices, instead of it being purely by vote like before.

  • SpenserJ

I guess Tatianaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s potential for histrionics disturbs me more than Dannyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s belated consolation of her.

  • sparklesgirl2

I’ve got to think Anoop will get in via wild card. Has to. Right??

I think next week we’ll put through Matt G, Adam, and Jasmine. I love Megan Corkrey and even Mishavonna, I think, but Jasmine seems to be a chosen one. Simon in particular loves her. And America listened to Simon last night, right, when he said to pick up the phone and vote for Michael? Who knows.

I’d like to see Alex of the boys in week 3 get in. I like him immensely. I think he’s got a gorgeous voice! That week it should be two girls with him: Arianna and Felicia, maybe? Oh and LIL. Hopefully Felicia, and one of the other two!

I think it’s amusing that each semi-final week, we get a crazy: Tatiana first, then Nick/Normund, then Nathaniel. Except I actually like Nick/Normund…

  • http://everyopinion.blogspot.com Terrie

Danny Gokey is the new Chris Sligh. If any of you frequented the VFTW or TWoP boards during AI6, you remember exactly what I mean.

I so do not like this format. Looking ahead, I fear that Kai Kalama and Jesse Langseth will join Stephen Fowler in instant obscurity.

This could be the season that kills AI — and I blame Kara.

  • sma11ie

Did I miss something, what happened to the band??

  • tinawina

Look, I think Danny is a tad smug for my tastes, and kinda bland. But, he sang well last night and he deserved his spot. I don’t love the guy. But I can’t hate on him for having fans or hype around him, because he earned it. And I don’t want to be mad at him for being happy about it. But that’s just how I see it.

Wow. I totally missed that. thanks. Of course, unless they tell us who the next highest vote getter is (they did this week) weà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll never know.

    You’re welcome, MJ.

After a few hours of stressing about RL instead of Anoop (LOL), I’m confident that they will put Anoop through.

    1. Anoop brings in the College Demographic – the one demographic AI doesnt conquer (I knw, I know, dramatic. haha)

    2. Anoop is LOVED by the mainstream online media

    3. Anoop is just really likeable. It’s not because all the Asians are supporting him, or the ethnic are supporting him. The guy is just a totally cool person, and he’s witty. Haha.

I was already a bit curious when Ryan kept asking Anoop “Are you nervous?” and then when Sarver and Anoop was on stage, Ryan was like leaning a bit to Anoop – but then pulled himself back, with the “He’s tall” excuse.

Simon, Randy, Paula (sometimes)**..please if Anoop doesn’t get a wildcard from the producers – please pull for Anoop.

From now on, I only accept Idol as having 3 judges.
Kara just keeps on copying the person commenting before her. Just get Kara to comment first. Heh.

    ETA: LMAO, Grammie Kari.
Oh shoot, I lost all my points this week.
Oh yeah MJ, if Anoop gets through the Top 12 by wild card – the overall pick is still valid right?

Sorry if this is OT..my first time joining a pool..

I know the writer of this article keeps using the phrase “semifinalist” but since it’s not a direct quote from Ken, I’m still going to assume that they might possibly go back to the Top 50 or Hollywood to pick a wildcard. It’s been done before. (season 2)

  • tierbee

Man, it was hard to get online tonight. Out of the way, children of mine! I’m bummed about Anoop… hope he comes back for the wild card. That’s what I get for liking anyone this early… last year it took me a few weeks, I was only mildly interested early on.

I’m not hating Danny, though. He hugged Tatiana, that’s more than I’d want to do ;) . She needed to do a little Miss America wave when she was talking to the “people of America.” Poor crazy girl. She’s all… twitchy and stuff. Freaks me out. Stay gone, dammit. NO wildcard for her please?

    Hope next week is better!

  • Grammie Kari

So, things look hopeful for Anoop, and AI gets the drama it thrives on.

widz, good points. I really believe AI needs this young man on the tour!

I didn’t go to those boards then, so I’m not sure what the reference here is, but my impression of the two of them couldn’t be more different. Chris strikes me as a super nice guy who’s very warm and genuine with a good sense of humor (even if he did force that a little too much on the show). And, well, Danny doesn’t so much give off those same good vibes to me.

Of course since the judges get to pick three more finalists, the amount of manipulation going on is massive. Build Danny as the creepy CO and bring the true ringer in as your wildcard. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m sure thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s the plan.

That’s the plan. Hold back on Anoop, bring him in as a wildcard and the Idol drama begins. Gotta love it!

So, things look hopeful for Anoop, and AI gets the drama it thrives on.

American Idol is not good for your heart, y’all.
And my IT lecturer also said AI only brings a negative effect on my grades.

But do I stop from watching? NOOOO.
Well, I don’t think I’ll be watching Group B and C live online though, will probably watch your vids, MJ! Hee.

  • dbt

Oh, I hope Anoop was 4th and goes to the wildcard round. I’m from Chapel Hill (Anoop’s digs) and I can tell you … he’s been big news. Everyone will be crushed that he didn’t make it tonight. The local radio station featured a news blurb about him off and on all day — it included him singing, even. And they said that some of the downtown bars were full with people watching him on the jumbo tvs — as if it were a big game. Apparently he drew a big crowd of students.

I think he might get a lot of student and local votes. I feel badly now, that I didn’t take time to vote (although I wouldn’t have voted 20000 times!)

  • ashes07

do you guys know if contestants can play instruments this season??

  • http://myspace.com/saltwatercures pj

    Well, here’s my 2 cents, for what it’s worth. Probably… 2 cents.

Don’t like Danny. His singing was terrible tonight, too. I like the term Lord Douchebag. Seems fitting.

I like Chris Sligh. He made some mistakes, but he’s genuine. He’s also brave and an independent thinker. I see none of that in Lord Douchebag.

    I’m really liking Alexis.

I’m bummed about Anoop, but he’ll get in the top 12. If not, I’ll eat the cute hat Alexis wore tonight.

I think I have a girl crush on Alexis.

  • chicksineggz

From now on, I only accept Idol as having 3 judges.
Kara just keeps on copying the person commenting before her. Just get Kara to comment first. Heh.

    Seriously. Kara has been useless.

  • Llamakhan

I don’t know if any of you watch House, but Anoop totally reminds me of Kutner on that show. They have the same sense of humor. I can’t believe he didn’t make it!

  • http://myspace.com/saltwatercures pj

Kara has been better than Randy. Let’s go back to three judges and fire his ass. He’s been useless for years.

    ETA:

Thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s the plan. Hold back on Anoop, bring him in as a wildcard and the Idol drama begins. Gotta love it!

Danny won’t win. No doubt there’s a stealth chosen one. Is it Anoop? Maybe. Time will tell.

  • paradox19

    Hi MJ,

do you have the video of the Group 2′s “dance”?

  • lakerchristinee

I am so positive that Anoop will make the top 12. He does add a new dynamic to the show and he’s completely genuine. EVERYONE at my high school talks about him and he is the unanimous favorite along with Danny. I’m really not nervous at all because I know he’ll get through and we get to see another performance :) Unless he completely blows it, he’s a lock. Haha and I am typing this through tears…goodness, I love Anoop-dawg!

  • Lino

Yeah. Anoop always reminds me of Kutner too.

  • SpenserJ

Kara has been better than Randy. Letà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s go back to three judges and fire his ass. Heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s been useless for years.

Amen sister. Randy strings sounds together, throws in a few of his Randyisms and makes no sense. At least I understand Kara’s point, which is waaay more interesting than Randy’s nonsense. And of course, Paula still makes no sense and never says something that hasn’t already been said. I’ll keep Kara and lose either of those 2 maroons.

    1. Anoop brings in the College Demographic – the one demographic AI doesnt conquer (I knw, I know, dramatic. haha)

    2. Anoop is LOVED by the mainstream online media

    3. Anoop is just really likeable. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not because all the Asians are supporting him, or the ethnic are supporting him. The guy is just a totally cool person, and heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s witty. Haha.

IÂ ´m in the demographic… and IÂ ´m a lot of time on line … and Anoop only made me want to turn off my tv…

  • cookcricket

Chris is a regular poster over at VFTW. They love him over there.

Yeah Chris! Now this is what I mean by genuine from what I’ve seen of Chris! He’s the real deal!

  • lakerchristinee

Totally agree with you widz. He’s just someone different who stands out. Different look and different sound…all of my indian friends are compelled to watch because of him. Also that and they see much promise in him, unlike Sanjaya, hahahaha. I’m not hating on Sanjaya or anything but thank goodness for Anoop!

  • oceana

I think they will do something like this: Bring back 12 people, let them sing, the viewing audience votes, results the next night. That’s kind of what they did in the past. But by now, the previous 7 seasons all run together in my mind so I don’t really remember what they did.

Tonight was much better than last night. It was exciting that 3 people are in the top 12 now. The past couple of years they took too long getting to the top 12.

I don’t judge Kara based on one night. I like her, she’s got a lot to give, of course it’s hard to break in and get your legs under you. She’ll find her niche.

I absolutely hated it when Danny’s friend held up a picture of his wife and pointed his finger up to heaven. Ridiculous manipulation. I don’t care for Danny. That “heroes” song was too corny and melodramatic.

It was great to see Michael Johns and Carly. They looked good – nice to see Carly dress up. They made the utmost out of their 5 minutes. It’s a huge opportunity for them to remind people of their existence and hawk MJ’s new cd. They did well.

I hope Stevie and Ricky are in the wild card show …

  • BetterChicken

I remember seeing Danny hug Tatiana and she pushed him away I think it was right before he sang…but I could be wrong.Sorry but I agree I wouldn’t of hugged her neither.I like Danny but DAMN did his friends REALLY have to flash the pic of his wife..that was to much..I only wanted Danny through because I thought he was a good singer but I’m really rooting for Adam and Kai.

I really thought that Carly’s make up made her look like a corpse her eyebrows were to dark and her eye shadow was yucky.

This change sucks Ricky and Anoop deserved a second chance.Hopefully they come back in wildcard.

Ugh next week will be a nightmare my faves are Adam and Kai..I was hoping they would be separate groups this sucks!

  • http://myspace.com/saltwatercures pj

I’m not convinced of Anoop’s fanbase yet. He didn’t make top two boys this week. Granted, his performance wasn’t great, either. He did nothing to set himself apart. I hope he gets the wildcard. I’d like to see what he can do.

  • abbysee

I am upset that Anoop didn’t make it as I think he was better than Michael Sarver. I am sorry, but Michael on stage is like a bull in a china shop. Awkward, ungainly, and out of place. He will not go far.

I expect to see Anoop perform on the wildcard show. I am hoping for Rickey cause I think that he would best be that little contestant who could come from obscurity and lay down some performances.

It was unfair to put Tatiana on stage last with Danny. First off she knew she was dead in the water, without a doubt. They just wanted some drama. As far as I am concerned she behaved as badly as Danny at the end. She was not the only one going home yet she was the only one looking as though she was going to lose her shit and commit murder and mayhem on stage. She needs to remember that the sun does not rise and set for her.

Danny was a bit of an ass for not even pretending to be a considerate human being. He could have at least faked some concern. If he knows what is good for him he will tell his relatives to stop with the pity party already. Seriously, you can say that he didn’t tell them to do it, but these idiots have to be reading the blogs, so they know the perception that a segment of the public is getting about him, so he really needs to stop because it will come back to haunt him. I mean it got him where he is now he needs to just let his voice, which is a good solid one, do the speaking for him. Enough is enough.

I will not vote for him once if the next time I see him, HE or one of his friends or family mentions his loss. If the producers do it, it’s out of his control. If he does it, I will think he really is a prick and a douchebag.

  • ashes07

does anybody hear want Taylor Vaifanua to make it?? i think shes really good :)
    i hope she goes far

  • ashes07

    here*
    sorry lol

  • lakerchristinee

Regarding Anoop’s fanbase, he has the biggest group of the season with almost 11,000 people on facebook. Danny has quite the number of groups with 3,000 in the biggest one, i believe. It seems to me that everyone picks up the voting in the top 10.

Is dialidol really accurate? Even though this was 2 years ago, I distinctly remember Melinda being #1 on Top 3 night, yet she was eliminated–thus, I did not vote for her thinking that she was safe. Did I just look at my computer screen wrong or can someone conjure up that night?

  • http://widyatarina.wordpress.com widz

Anoop only made me want to turn off my tvà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

Well I never said that everyone in the demographic likes/will like him – but from what I’ve seen – he has even managed to get Duke support and he’s from UNC (who are rivals with Duke)..I think that says a LOT about Anoop.

Anyway, Paula and Randy seriously needs to take Public Speaking lessons – I always feel uncomfortable listening/watching them speak. Heh.

The thing is, I’d like Paula and Randy to stay as judges, cos they do have valipd opinions (sometimes) and brings in interesting perspectives (sometimes). They just need to focus on how to elaborate their thoughts more..

  • oceana

Danny was a bit of an ass for not even pretending to be a considerate human being. He could have at least faked some concern. If he knows what is good for him he will tell his relatives to stop with the pity party already.

    I totally agree.

  • tralalara

So I guess no one even noticed that Michael and Carly came in at the wrong time at one point and were off time until the next chorus. I promise they did. They covered it well though.

And I know this isn’t a popular opinion but Randy Jackson is the only actual musician judging. I almost always agree with him and, scary I know, but I usually “get” him.
Sorry, just had to say it.

  • IdolFanatic

As for his reaction to being safe, I do wish he looked a bit more gracious, but I think ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s hard for the contestants to realize how they might come off on camera at first, besides which, Tatiana was SO ANNOYING. Okay, thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s all.

Dannyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s – is kind of damned if does, damned if he doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t in that place. If he celebrates his making the top 12 before consoling the drama queen heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a douche. If he consoled the drama queen first, then it risks becoming all. about. her. – again.

YEP! To both of you :) Seriously, just cause he didn’t buy into all her bullcrap doesn’t make him evil….LOL! Man, it cracks me up how it’s all about poor Tatiana now.

  • jpfan

I don’t really get the Anoop love. He just sounds typical boyband to me. And he picked a terrible song to sing.

  • dcismyfav

I so don’t get the Danny hate. Did you see how he looked into Tatiana’s eyes when she said she didn’t know how she felt? It was heartwarming – he felt for her and he showed it with his eyes – they both looked so nervous and emotional with the whole waiting thing. And Danny did hug her. I don’t have any favorites yet, but I will say that Danny has a really nice rasp to his voice and can really deliver a song.

And I gotta tell you, I spent the first three or four weeks defending David Cook from all of those people that were hating on him in a similar manner.

Could you be reading more into a small gesture than is really there?

And just one more thing – Tatiana is way too aware of the camera. She is always fixing her hair and it is very annoying.

  • jammasta

Ugh, Danny, I like you and all, but it seems you got a bit TOO competitive with that ending. I mean, sure, it would’ve been fun to just shoot down Tatiana right there, but not in that way…. Meh, he’ll still get my vote.

Next week, I’m looking forward to Matt Giraud, Jasmine Murray, Megan Corkrey, and Nick Mitchell. Adam Lambert is okay, but he is “hateably” androgynous and is probably second only to Danny in fan pimping. I don’t really want Adam to get very far, but he might deserve one of those spots.

Next week will have better singers, but I’m really waiting for Lil Rounds.

  • Paula

I remember seeing Danny hug Tatiana and she pushed him away I think it was right before he sangà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦but I could be wrong.Sorry but I agree I wouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t of hugged her neither.

BBBBOOOOOO SIMON!! I call SHENANIGINS!!!! :tongue2_tb:

The only, and I mean ONLY, reason Michael made it into the top 12 is cause
Simon has a damn-big-ass-mouth! How is he going to say Michael’s performance wasn’t that good, but he deserved a second chance. What made Michael so special that he deserved a second chance and no else did?? This is blatant pimping and determental to my viewership (dammit, I knew I shouldn’t have started watching this show, cuz all the TPTB manipulations would eventually piss me off, I just never thought it would happen during the first performance show).

JD Fortune’s version of The Letter is 100 times better than that remake Michael and Carly are singing. :wink_ee:

    I EFF’N HATE THIS YEAR’S FORMAT!!!!! :furious_tb:

If this was actually about talent, Ricky would have been a shoe-in; he was the BEST of the night. Anoop also should have made it. Damn, are we sure these 3 weren’t the worst and are actually being voted off? Cuz, Dang It (tm Archie), they sound like CRAP!!

This sucks and I need to CHILL-OUT!

OOOOHHHHH, I Love these dance-off snippets they show at the end…..I’m totally on Nick/Norman’s bandwagon….I have renewed hope for next week….Good Lookin Out Idol.

    Peace Out Y’all & Poke Smot :smoke_tb:

  • Qzar99

I don’t like Danny. It’s not because he seemed like an ass tonight, because he didn’t. It’s because I don’t like to be manipulated by the producers. The 3 judges were just way too far up his booty last night for what was not that great of a performance. I think they need to get rid of the judges altogether once America starts voting. They can leave Simon up there, because so far, he’s the only one that speaks the truth.

  • http://myspace.com/saltwatercures pj

Sorry, just had to say it.

Say it. We love all sorts of opinions. I don’t think the fact that he plays bass makes him more of a musician than “Open Toes” Kara. I’m guessing she plays some instruments, too. Nor does it make the bias he brings to the table any less annoying to me.

  • CRB

Danny hugged Tatiana, Ryan just had to give him that wee little push in the small of the back a la Kat McPhee & Daughtry to make it happen.

I actually can’t hate on Danny for a delayed embrace. I still think he is over pimped, Hero was over rated (a poor song choice too) but he has a pretty damn good voice. Still it is too early for the Idol to emerge so I think he’ll end up flaming out before the confetti falls.

  • Niall

Alexis has reminded me of somebody ever since the chair episode and now I’ve figured it out. Anybody remember Josie Bissett from Melrose Place? She played Jane and had pretty much the same haircut and facial features. Gah, I am so glad I finally made the connection; it was driving me up a wall.

At this stage of the game in Season 6, folks really liked Chris. He fell out of favor later, at TWOP mostly.

Chris is a regular poster over at VFTW. They love him over there.

Until Chris gave his “Hi, Dave!” shout-out, VFTW treated him like an overstuffed pinata every bit as much as TWoP. The shout-out was a dare because they thought he was too “fake” to actually do it. I like clever snark as much as anyone, but as a Sligh fan from day one I had to put on my flameproof jammies every time I ventured into either site.

I’m so glad Chris was invited to the WDW event and his career is doing well. Isn’t that the best revenge?

ETA: Don’t y’all remember when Chris talked back to Simon after his very first performance during top 24 week and then apologized at the next opportunity? The backslash began immediately.

  • BootStar

Ack! That group number was atrocious. Embarrassingly awful. What were they thinking? “Kid Bop Sings Jason Mraz”? Just NO!

And I love me some Carly and Michael, but I did not think they came across all that great tonight, and it seemed kinda cheezy that they reprised that number from last season. Talk about an afterthought.

Did Carly just get her teeth done by the guy who did Elliott’s? Her face looked so swollen I almost didn’t recognize her. I hope she isn’t “fixing” herself. She was beautiful the way she was. I don’t like the new look at all.

They really have to have Anoop back as a wildcard, because 20,000 votes isn’t even statistically significant is it?

Danny Go-Quick-Ley is my new name for that guy. He sounded like ass tonight and acted like a bigger one. He actually made me feel sorry for Tatiana! She may be annoying as hell, but she’s mentally ill. He couldn’t be just a teenie bit gracious to her? And was he really surprised? He’s never heard of Dial Idol?

Poor Ricky. I hope to God they bring him back. :blink_tb:

  • cheese

I’m officially bored with disliking Danny already. At least he’s off my TV for three weeks (although I will expect closeups of him in the audience while the fodder sings next week). I don’t even care about the photo of the wife or the not hugging Tatiana. I don’t like the so-so singing and the pimping for the so-so singing. Alexis wiped the floor with Danny and Michael tonight. I think Michael will finish in the Chikezie spot.

Speaking of fodder, I’ll be the lone voice over here rooting for Kai to somehow do well enough to make the wildcard since I thought his voice was gorgeous in his audition. I wish he were in group 3, which looks just dire. Maybe adorable Alex will make it.

Best parts of the night: Group 2′s dorky dancing (omg Normund!) and hubby thinking that Carly and Michael were season 8 semifinal losers – he wondered why they weren’t sitting on the couches with the others. Hee.

  • NOLA

Anybody that knows me, knows I never care for the female contestants. Don’t get me wrong. I am for Anoop…all the way; but that little Alexis is fabulous. She just might take it this season.

  • IdolFanatic

I’m glad Danny’s being honest about his feelings instead of being fake. Yeah perhaps he coulda been a tad more sweet to poor little drama queen I suppose, but seriously, I think his reaction could’ve been much worse.

The shout out happened pretty early in the season. If people were hating on Chris over at VFTW, it was a very small window of time. The intense TWOP hate didn’t start until later–mostly some silly bullshit that started with the blaker girls over there.

Except for TWOP, maybe–and like I said, that was later in the season–there was never the the level of hatred for Chris that I see for Danny.

Stephen Wright? That’s wrong. It’s Stephen Fowler. I have yet to see who made the mistake between MJS and Kara. It’s bad enough he shares the same name as the worst husband in Wife Swap history.

  • Tatiana

    Blah, I hate Lord Douchebag!

Here’s the thing…if his performance was as amazing as the judges made it out to be, people would want to re-watch it over and over, and it would get instant buzz and high views on YouTube. I remember Archie’s “Imagine” had over a million views within days (that particular vid has long been pulled). Cook’s “Billie Jean” had huge views too. Gokey’s only has 50K so far. I have a feeling Adam Lambert is going to pull out amazing, over-the-top performances that get people talking.

I agree though that the likely winner is probably someone completely under the radar at this point…they like to make it look like they “came out of nowhere”, when it’s staged all along. Ahh reality tv!

Yes, totally I love Melrose Place, lol. Alexis does look like Josie, with the pale skin and red lipstick and petite figure.

Ok Anoop will be back and I am on the don’t care for Danny bandwagon. He sang horribly tonight too. I miss Tatiana already, lol. She is just too entertaining to not have. I rather have Tatiana than Michael, lol. Michael will make top 12 and that’s it.

Next week is going to be rough, I am hoping that Matt G. and Adam makes it. Yeah Adam wears too much makeup. I know he is trying to cover up all his blemishes but really, he looks weird. As for girl, I don’t care, can’t Norman be the third girl? lol….I love Norman….:)

  • CRB

Carly got her teeth done for sure. Her face looked rounder, perhaps she put some of that pre-Idols Live weight loss back on, who knows. That performance was definitely an afterthought, supposedly Warrick cooked it up and called Johns last Sunday, so it clearly wasn’t as good as the finale last year…no doubt about that. Micheal Johns was off in a couple of parts of that song, he dropped a couple of lines straight away out of one verse, I’ve watched the other one to death and it was pretty glaring to me. Still, when Idol calls you’ve definitely got to go.

I’m hoping the next group of contestants aren’t quite as nervous because half the performances last night were karaoke bar bad.

  • stelladallas

I’ve always hated how insincere contestants are with their concern and crocodile tears over another contestant being booted off. In reality, I’m sure they don’t give a frog’s fat ass and are just glad that they get to stay in the game. Are they really on AI to cheer on someone else? Also, they will all soon learn when the camera is on them so they can show the proper amount of fake concern.

  • abbysee

I don’t hate Danny. If he picks better songs and sings them well he has a chance of winning my vote. In the end it’s still all about the voice. His ain’t bad. I just am not over the moon about him. He is easy to screw with though. He makes it so easy. It’s working for him so far.

  • sparklesgirl2

cheese, I too love Kai, and Alex! I’d love to see both make the top 12, but alas, I doubt either will.

Perhaps they’ve set up group 3 so that ringer Von or Scott can get in? I like Scott’s backstory, but I don’t think his voice is strong enough to be in the top 12… I actually don’t hate Von as much as most people do, but I don’t really care to see him in the top 12.

I think Melinda may have been an early #1 on top 3 night, but it quickly faded. I spent the entire night texting on one phone and calling on my boyfriend’s for her… I even got an unlimited text plan just so I could go for her. I literally cried when she got the boot, even though DialIdol had me convinced she would go home. :( Sorry, off topic, but I wanted to respond to whoever asked about that, because believe me, that night is burned in my mind…

    LOLOLOLOL.

Ugh, I still cannot stand Danny the Douche. If he is destined by TPTB to be in the finals, then this is going to be one boring season coz I’ve seen rocks with more stage presence and star quality than him.

  • SoulmateCT

I don’t really have a dog in this hunt as it relates to Danny Gokey but here are some fairly neutral observations.

My first thought when the picture flashed was that the person holding it was probably his brother in law (dead wife’s brother). I don’t know that he is but it was my initial thought.

My next thought after reading all the negatives here was surprise. I’ve never lost a spouse but I am married, and can only imagine the pain you go through. The only thing worse would be to lose a child. Because of this, I’ll hold back some judgement on behavior just like I would take into consideration someone’s youth, etc.

My final thought when I heard the WOO was I turned to my kids and said “he’d better watch that or he’ll come across like an *sshat (ok, I didn’t say *sshat cause my youngest is only 11 but I can’t remember my substitution, lol)

My final final thought (lol) Tatiana is crazier than a bag of squirrels.

    That is all. (smile)

  • SpenserJ

That performance was a little weird to me too. And, speaking of pimpage…. it must be nice to still receive the pimping even after your season has ended LOL.

He actually made me feel sorry for Tatiana!

You’re a good person. I’m not sure if I could feel bad for her even if there was some kind of industrial accident on stage and she lost an eyeball right there in front of us.

Amen! Though I do think that some of them really do feel sad if it is someone they are friends with. I really think if say Jamar had made it through to the Top 36 and it came down to both he and Danny, I have a feeling Danny would’ve been feeling more sad and concerned for his friend. I guess his reaction came off as classless to some but he already had many targets on his back so pretty much every little move he makes now is going to dissected and analyzed down to the nth degree. Funny how people get upset and question and criticize modesty like with Archie last year and Melinda the year before that, but then when they exhibit more confidence, it gets lambasted. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t when you’re on a show like Idol.

  • http://myspace.com/saltwatercures pj

Yes, it works both ways. It’s okay for Danny to be arrogant, but not Blake Lewis, I guess. Blake actually was well behaved on the show. But speak his mind after? The horrors!

I really don’t object to Danny’s behavior on the show tonight. Mostly the over-pimping for his singing this week. You’ll note that I even said he had a nice enough voice in the past. He’s totally turned me off, though.

  • sparklesgirl2

I would just like to say, perhaps as others have already, that I wish Michael and Carly had sung something other than what they did at the finale last year. I love them, but some new material please!

  • Mike67

I think the show sorta set up the three rounds to isolate all the people they defintely want in the Top 12:

    Round 1
Alexis and Danny (Michael should not have been 3..Ricky deserved it)

    Round 2
Jasmine and Adam (alot of guy talent here Kris, Matt, and Matt)

    Round 3
Lil and Scott (agree that Scott’s story is huge for him but his singing is ehhh)
    * I think Arianna and Taylor will be strong here too, Ju’Not for the guys (weakest guy group is 3)

I am pulling for Felicia Barton to get into the Top 12 but she has 3 strong girls to compete against in round 3 (above). Wish she would have been in Group 1 which now looks to have been the weakest of the bunch.

    We’ll see…

    Thanks,
    Mike

  • cookcricket

Yeah, I agree with some others. I like Kara and think Randy is nothing more than a corporate 19 soundbox.

Love the vids I’ve seen so far! Alexis, girl, you’re good! Michael, I like you! Still waiting to see Danny’s moment. LOL.

Thanks mj for alllllllll you do for us!

Fingers crossed for Anoop Dawg, esp. knowing there is a lot of love out there for him! He should be in there! I haven’t ever been a fan, but admit he’s got A LOT to offer.

Ricky come back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111 (LOL, my first 111.)

  • stelladallas

Amen! Though I do think that some of them really do feel sad if it is someone they are friends with.

I agree, and especially as the season goes on, I’m sure many really will become friends. But at this stage in the game, I don’t see how anyone could be that attached, especially to an alienating, crazy woman.

  • movin2thabeet

I, too, have finally disembarked from the Gokey train. Not as vehemently as some of you. I just don’t think his voice is all that, and his character has been increasingly turning me off. Tragedy happens. Blessings happen. How a person handles it all defines us.

I am very unhappy that Michael got in over Anoop Dawg. Michael seems like a nice guy but I don’t think his voice is that incredible, nor is he really star quality. And Anoop…very well might be. All I can say is if Anoop isn’t at least in the wildcard round, the show will lose alot of folks.

I actually didn’t think any of the performances tonight were that great. Michael and Carly especially so. Michael had a hard time finding the beat and Carly, eh. I’m wondering if the band setup this year makes it hard for the performers to sync up with them.

Next week’s lineup has me worried. I want Adam in that Top 12 but the fact that Michael got 20,000 more votes than Anoop this week makes me less than confident now. No matter how well Adam sings, there will be a portion of America that will never vote for him based on his look, one that many of us really dig. And there does seem like some other contenders next week. Many of whom we’ve seen so little of. I also happen to have a soft spot for NickNorm and I’m looking forward to what Kai is going to bring. And that’s just the guys!

Again, as it needs repeating, this format stinks. It gives TPTB too much power, and puts the elimination cart before the horse, before many of the contestants even get a chance to show what they can bring. So far, given two weak shows in a row, and Hollywood Week higher on the drama than the actual talent, I’m giving AI no more than a ‘C’ grade, with much, much room for improvement. You’d think that after 7 years, they would have a clue about what works and what doesn’t. And speaking of…the new judge, Kara? She isn’t adding much of anything to the equation IMO. And in this economy, making the decision to add to the payroll for minimal return? Not such a smart idea. Just sayin’.

I don’t know if it was set up to have Alexis be in the top 12. I think she kind of surprised everyone. I bet the producers were gunning for Ann Marie, but Alexis proved herself and she was rewarded with votes. This is when Idol does what it’s supposed to do well – when people like Alexis come out with a great performance and win people over that way.

  • cmom

Ok – since I am on the West Coast and I didn’t look in here earlier to see what happened, I just finished reading all these posts. My main thoughts were that Simon looked unhappy at the end with the three that were there (don’t know whether he was having second thoughts after hearing their singing again or which one or what). Another was disappointment that Anoop was cut and hope he comes back. The last thing was that I was looking forward to a funny/good group song and the only thing that kept running through my head during the group song was that it compared so poorly with simply hearing Archuleta singing I’m Yours for that radio station a couple weeks ago when he couldn’t even hear his own voice.

  • IdolFanatic

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

I guess his reaction came off as classless to some but he already had many targets on his back so pretty much every little move he makes now is going to dissected and analyzed down to the nth degree.

That’s really a generalization. Let’s stick to dissecting the Idols, not the motives of other posters on this board.

Funny how people get upset and question and criticize modesty like with Archie last year and Melinda the year before that, but then when they exhibit more confidence, it gets lambasted. Damned if you do, damned if you donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t when youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re on a show like Idol.Funny how people get upset and question and criticize modesty like with Archie last year and Melinda the year before that, but then when they exhibit more confidence, it gets lambasted. Again, more over-generalizing about the way people feel and their motives. Lets stick to discussing the Idols.

  • http://myspace.com/saltwatercures pj

How did you pull Blake into this? Where did that come from?

You pulled Archie into the mix. I thought we were talking about the perception of Idol personalities, real or not. No?

Sligh has also been mentioned. My apologies to MJ if this is off topic.

  • stelladallas

I like Anoop, but how cool would it be if he was asked to come back for wildcard round, but he tells AI to buzz off because he’s decided to stay in school? LOL Also, I hope RICKY will be chosen for one of the wildcards.

  • hardkandy

How did you pull Blake into this? Where did that come from?

Probably the same place you pulled out David Archuleta and Melinda Doolittle from ;)

For me, there’s a difference between being confident and being a douche. Danny falls into the latter category.

  • bjames

i’m already over danny. ricky and anne marie are (probably) gone and the rest of my favorites are being grouped into next week, with the exception of felicia barton. this season has major suckage potential.

  • undercooked

Hi, sorry, whats TWOP? I know, complete rookie.

  • IdolFanatic

You pulled Archie into the mix. I thought we were talking about the perception of Idol personalities, real or not. No?

Yeah. I just had never mentioned Blake on the show or off the show in this thread and it seemed you were implying that I had said something about Blake’s actions after the show. I guess I misunderstood. My apologies.

  • Diana

I don’t hate Danny, I just think he’s been way overpraised by the judges. He also comes off a bit holier-than-thou. I even thought he was overrated compared to his friend Jamal (maybe he’ll get another shot in the wildcard round?).

It seems to be more about the back story this year (see: Michael Sarver).

I’m looking forward to Nick/Normund and, of course, Adam.

  • http://everyopinion.blogspot.com Terrie

Maybe we need to have a pool to predict the word o’ the day here at MJ’s on AI show nights. For this week, Tuesday’s was “pimp” and Wednesday’s is “douche.” The correct answer would include variations on the words, such as pimpage, pimped, douchebag, etc.

I’m betting that next Tuesday, after Adam’s top 36 debut, the word o’ the day will be “shout.” Any takers for “glam” or “hair”?

Man, the lengths we have to go to, to make this season fun.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

Sligh has also been mentioned. My apologies to MJ if this is off topic.

Yeah. I can see where this conversation is heading and I don’t like it. LOL. Let’s get back to discussing last night’s show.

  • AC

Front runners never win, that’s why Danny has no chance. America loves an underdog- that’s why I think anyone who gets a wildcard might become a favorite. they also have 1 more performance than everyone else. That same theory applies to Felicia Barton and why she has a big chance.

As far as Danny’s singing, it’s just okay to me and i can’t imagine what type of album he would make (and that would actually sell!)

  • http://everyopinion.blogspot.com Terrie

Hi, sorry, whats TWOP? I know, complete rookie.

    Television Without Pity.

  • 2dogs

Micheal Johns was off in a couple of parts of that song, he dropped a couple of lines straight away out of one verse

i noticed this too. I actually think he did that intentionally to catch up with the runaway band.

This was a disappointing episode for me. I gained a little love for Alexis, but everything else was a net fail. Hope things improve.

  • Hoppy

I am hardly a huge Danny fan and have no motive to defend him, but I’m actually surprised to the reaction to what happened tonight! The “picture” was held up so quickly, I couldn’t have even told you what it was of if I didn’t read it here. (At least on the West Coast it was.) And Danny DID hug Tatiana, so, uhh… what? Was it the classiest reaction ever? Probably not. But did it make him look like a smug jerk? Not in my living room. He was up there with one of the wackiest contestants in history, so of course it was going to be 10 kinds of awkward. Not to mention that the floor director was probably saying “HURRY UP AND SING” because they were running out of time.

Sooooo, yeah, I just don’t see the big deal. Just my opinion!

Though I am wondering if he’s already got a Lenscrafters endorsement deal. ;)

  • IdolFanatic

Front runners never win, thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s why Danny has no chance.

I think the winners of seasons 3 and 4 say otherwise.

Though I am wondering if heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s already got a Lenscrafters endorsement deal. ;)

    :lol_tb:

  • dcisluv

I swear to GOD almighty that I will vote for ANYONE else a thousand times before I let Danny Gokey win this effing show.

    He is EVIL.

    I’m sure of it.

  • http://everyopinion.blogspot.com Terrie

Though I am wondering if heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s already got a Lenscrafters endorsement deal. ;)

Or Ace Hardware. Maybe Danny had the same premonition as SpenserJ about an industrial accident taking out a contestant’s eyeball.

  • undercooked

I agree with 2dogs. The band is all over the place. This doesn’t seem like the same band as last year asI remember them being pretty good. Are these the second stringers, and they bring out the real band when the top 12 perform?

  • IdolFanatic

An observation I made is the reactions of other contestants when Danny was singing. A lot of smiles and seemingly genuine happiness for him as they all completely ignored the drama queen, except poor Stevie was cornered by her a bit. I don’t know…I just get this vibe that the other contestants seem to really like Danny, so I’m thinking he can’t be all that bad. Usually you can sense how well liked a person is and that to me, says something about who they really are. Just a thought. Only time will tell if this plays out down the road I guess.

  • Grammie Kari

Idle thoughts…. Alexis did a better job singing tonight than Carly did.

Wouldn’t it be great if Anoop is invited to attend the Academy Awards on Sunday? Most know “Slum Dog Millionaire” was filmed entirely in India.

I doubt that either Danny or Michael would have made it into the TOP 12 using the TOP 24 format.

  • http://myspace.com/saltwatercures pj

Yeah. I can see where this conversation is heading and I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t like it. LOL. Letà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s get back to discussing last nightà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s show

Sorry. I love playing devil’s advocate, yet I knew the writing was on the wall for that. :devil_tb:

Wouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t it be great if Anoop is invited to attend the Academy Awards on Sunday? Most know à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Slum Dog Millionaireà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ was filmed entirely in India.

Huh? Only if Anoop had a song on the soundtrack. I don’t think he does.

  • prop joe

it must be nice to still receive the pimping even after your season has ended LOL

If only TPTB would be just as nice to other ex-contestants and their fans right? Sure sucks when they’re not eh LOL.

That performance was definitely an afterthought, supposedly Warrick cooked it up and called Johns last Sunday, so it clearly wasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t as good as the finale last yearà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦no doubt about that.

I agree. Not much time to jam for new material either. (I wish they had reprised their Ellen duets instead though). But I am relieved Michael didn’t choke on that performance, missed lyrics and a bit of nerves and all. It wasn’t as great as their other duets but it’s not bad exposure for them both.

Oh yeah, top 12, yay. So far I’m only psyched to see Normund.

  • cookcricket

Okay, finally saw the Tatiana/Danny show down. LOL. I am so trying to be objective here since I liked Danny from the beginning and after reading the comments here I thought I would absolutely hate his reaction. Um, I KNOW pretension because I’ve lived it in the past and it sucks! I want real!

So, having said that, I’m still actually up in the air about Danny! His response wasn’t as bad as I expected and I “felt” his singing was real. I don’t always trust my own feelings though. So that leaves me up in the air.

I’m not on a bandwagon about this guy, I’m just trying to figure out if he’s real or not. I do think he has some star qualities about him, so I guess for now, I’m in ‘wait and see’ mode.

mj, thank you SO MUCH for posting everything!!!!! I truly believe you’re the real thing and that’s no lie! Thank you!

P.S. I felt sad for Tatiana, drama queen and all I think she meant it when she said she was jsut humbled to be there.

  • hypertwink

    I love this from TWoP:

Tonight the Role of Danny Gokey Will Be Played By Jesus of Nazareth :lol_tb:

  • IdolFanatic

I just re-watched the ending and never once did he actually move AWAY from the drama queen. When she touched his arm, he stood there and did not reach back, but perhaps that was due to nerves and just wanting to get on with it already….whatever. He looked sympathetic toward her when Ryan asked her to speak about how she was feeling too. And as for rolling his eyes before the break and saying he just wanted to find out in response to Ryan, he pretty much was echoing the thoughts that I and probably many others were having at the same moment. I was practically screaming at Ryan to get on with it already. I probably would’ve bitch slapped Ryan and then Tatiana myself – LOL!

Did you notice how everyone ran right up to hug and congratulate Danny and hardly any of them even noticed the drama queen? The ones that did hug her barely touched her, then quickly moved away. It is interesting to notice such things in the background for me at least. She clearly does not inspire them to want to comfort her. I think she’s probably as fake as they get.

  • IdolFanatic

I think she meant it when she said she was jsut humbled to be there.

I wanted to believe her but I just couldn’t. I think she’s saying what she thinks others want to hear.

  • hardkandy

I think sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s saying what she thinks others want to hear.

I’d like to think Tatiana is that smart but alas, I just don’t think she is. And I want to hate her but I can’t – she’s batshit crazy but I really don’t get a meanspirited vibe from her, like at all. And she’s definitely not as calculating and insincere as Danny the douche.

Totally unpopular opinion but if it came down to her and Danny, I’d want her in the top 12. She’s just more sincere to me. And she has more stage presence too. But reading this whole thread, I don’t think this is a very unpopular opinion after all.

But oh well, on a side note… Anoop better make it through wild card.

  • artimice

    Casey Carlson for Wildcard.

I want her to pick a great song and redeem herselff!

  • Michelle

    Nah, Casey’s done.

Ugh, I’m starting to resent that I even put any emotional energy into caring one way or another about Danny. I’ll chalk up my eagerness to hate on him, on the fact that I *always* find these early rounds incredibly boring and am probably just trying to inject some interest into it for myself. Please, Week 2, be interesting!!!

I hate Adam’s voice from what I’ve heard so far but I will admit. He was purdy in that preview clip. And that would be awesome if it did come down to Adam vs. Danny.

  • CRB

Tatiana is an actress who can sing.

What she is doing is essentially playing herself as an American Idol contestant. What I find so interesting is that the Hollywood and Audition edits were rather slanted into telling the story of an egomaniac lunatic-fringe type of character, who was very hard to like, but the reality is that she is just a very emotional and fairly confident and talented performer.

I find myself enjoying this new, real-time Tatiana more than the one previously created in the editing room. I loved her reigning it in despite the judges goading yesterday. I’m hoping that the wild card will be used to keep her in the cast. The entertainment shows are calling her “this years Sanjaya” but to me that is just about 180 degrees out of whack. In fact, I think on tour she just might be a real charmer.

Casey Carlson laid an ostrich-size egg with her performance of Every Little Thing (S)He Does Is Magic. Watch that about four times in a row and just laugh your ass off. Seriously, that was an EPIC – Crocodile Rock type failure. On the bright side, she will be remembered and it’s entertaining. Wasting a wild card spot on her would be a travesty.

  • http://youtube.com/user/ConcertCameraCat Sparkles

Do Danny fans have to call themselves Douchetards now? Or Douchmates? The Douche Patrol?
Whatever. I just want him to make the top 10 so the tour comes to Milwaukee & I won’t have to drive to Chicago to see them. I know that’s totally self serving but I hate all those damn tolls!

  • AC

I think they were more happy that tatiana did not go through, rather than danny making it.

anyways, i think anoop’s reaction was more endearing when he didn’t make it (which would make his fans love him even more). he is definitely going to make it to top 12,, unless he chooses another song like angel of mine!

I was wondering why they didn’t play instruments either but maybe they were playing it safe? I think only Jason Castro played an instrument the first time last week? i think jackie tohn had a better chance with a guitar in her hand than her dancing. i thought carly did really well but the hair extension story was kinda weird. they both looked good too.

  • IdolFanatic

And sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s definitely not as calculating and insincere as Danny the douche.

Disagree. If he was calculating I doubt he would be reacting so in the moment like he does…did he really think too hard about his “Woo!” tonight and waiting two extra seconds to hug the drama queen? Doubtful. It all seems very in the moment and not one bit calculating to me. If he was, he would be censoring his every move much more to come off as more charming than he apparently does to many. Calculating is harder to get upset by I think because it’s harder to pick up on. Reacting without censoring is much easier to hate on.

  • hardkandy

^^Not in that moment, no. But his continuous exploitation of his wife’s memory and those comments he made after his performance of Hero about how it’s for those people going through tough/tragic times or whatever the dreck he said… it ‘s all so calculated and insincere to me.
But nevermind me, I’m already so jaded when it comes to this guy. It’ll be very hard to change my opinion that he’s a phony, calculating, slimy douchebag ;)

  • seattle_girl

I’d bet some real dollars that Ricky and Anoop both actually make it through the Wild Card and into the Top 12 ~ UNLESS Anoop performs another “Angel” then he’s toast. Doesn’t leave much room for anyone else in the Top 12, I suspect.

I’ll be danged if Alexis didn’t outperform everybody from both nights. That was pretty freaking good. And GrammieKari had an interesting point, I think maybe Alexis did sound better than Carly. Ouch.

This west coaster was also expecting to be outraged over Danny’s behavior, but I didn’t see anything too bad. Sure the ‘Woo’ could have been reined in, but he wasn’t an ass by any stretch. Nice hug for Tatiana. I’m good. That said though, I NEVER like TCO. I’m liking Danny for now, but I’m sure that I’ll find a new fave OR the judges will change their focus. That’s just the way I roll (yep, I was a Jason fan). It won’t stay in synch long.

Here’s hoping Kris Allen can have a shining moment next week (and Felicia the following week!). Who am I kidding? I’m hoping for ANYONE to shine after this dismal showing. I’m not convinced Adam is a shoo-in, he’ll have to avoid the drama and keep the glam toned down for middle america to vote for him.

  • Layla

Group number was utterly atrocious!!! My gawd that was a hot mess!!!

Yeah Alexis….she’s my fave so far and looking forward to hearing more from her…she has a very current look and she can sing her ass off!

Michael over Anoop? A real shame but hI have no doubt that Anoop will make it through on the wild card provided he picks a great song and KILLS it.

Danny…he dd hug that crazy bitch but he was in the moment. He was no more into himself than Tatiana was…did she congratulate him? No…she was into herself as usual. Hope her crazy dramtatically boring ass is not chosen for the w/c round. Her histronics are becoming predictable and boring.

Danny’s voice is nice…but I hope he gets away fom the bland Christian insprirational shit…and lets his lovely late wife rest in peace.

  • Layla

…oh and Carly and Michael John’s performance was really dated. They looked and sounded like two has-beens trying to make a comeback.

Cook and carrie’s snippet was the best thing in the whole show.

  • freakalweek

I wish everyone would cut Danny a break for just a little while just to see how he plays out, I think he will grow and his wife will just be in his heart and not out in the publics eye for much longer, just try to walk a mile in his shoes and try and feel what it would feel like to lose someone you really love. Now Tatiana I can see ragging on her because everyone else even the 16 year girl had more class than her, Tatiana cried the whole time acting like she was the only one that got cut. Everyone else had class and clapped and danced while the others sang but not Tatiana she just cried and glared. I hope she doesn’t come back as a wild card and if anything I think she has ruined her chance as coming back for a wild card just by the way she acted. And as far as her plea to America to keep her dream alive was just pathetic, everyone has dreams and especially in the music business there are millions that have that dream. I think she also ruined her chance at even being picked up by some label too because everyone hates a drama queen and someone who is hard to work with. I don’t think anyone has to worry about Anoop the judges will bring him back as a wild card, he is a great singer with a great personality so he will be back, I can’t almost bet you on that one, so Anoop fans don’t worry he will be back.
    Blessed Be :bye_tb:

  • prop joe

Cook and carrieà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s snippet was the best thing in the whole show.

Meh for me then, still meh for me now.

Getting a glimpse of that though made me think again that Gokey reminds me of Cook. Not that they look or sound alike, I just see Cook in Gokey. Though the Top Idol blog kinda nailed it for me by saying Gokey has the David Cook Lemon Squint when he sings. That’s probably it.

  • Grammie Kari

I also hope Tatiana is not invited back for the Wild Card round.

I believe we will be seeing Michael, Alexis, and Danny sitting in the silver chairs next week as they add three new ones.

No, pj, Anoop didn’t sing in “Slum Dog Millionaire” – I was just thinking about some connections he could make. I think with the outrage over Anoop not making it this time, the judges would be nutty not to select him for the TOP 12. He seems like a geniunely nice guy who is also very intelligent.

  • Layla

Nah..Cook in Gokey ? okay I didn’t mean that like it sounded LOL

Two completely different singers with polar opposite vibes.

  • hardkandy

Two completely different singers with polar opposite vibes.

Definitely… I don’t think I can compare any past contestant to Danny though. this guy gives me the creeps like no other.

  • geekygirl

Youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re a good person. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not sure if I could feel bad for her even if there was some kind of industrial accident on stage and she lost an eyeball right there in front of us

:lol_tb: SpenserJ! I am glad she is gone. I had a good giggle on the scary board reading a thread on what would happen when she got eliminated, there were mentions of needing to be tasered or a SWAT team.

The results were pretty predictable, and if the 4th highest vote getter is the wildcard then that has to be Anoop. I can’t see any of the girls getting the 4th highest, not even psycho with the VFTW support.

Please bring back Ricky Braddy! This format sucks, he had a fantastic performance and we only just got to know him! I’d like to see more.

And I wouldn’t bother wasting hate energy towards Danny, he won’t last. Don’t think I’ve ever seen the tide turn so quickly on a chosen one before!

  • flicker

It seems like every aspect of this show is ham-fisted and ill-advised this year. From overplaying the drama at the expense of showing the singers, to the horrible new format, to the glitches in production.

I never thought I’d say this, but BRING BACK NIGEL! I’d happily take his manipulation, if it meant there would be a firmer hand on the helm.

This show has become almost unwatchable.

  • geekygirl

I just watched all the clips and Danny did hug Tatianna?!? He did it with more conviction than most of the other contestants so not sure why all the hate. It is pretty obvious from all the body language how everyone feels about her. She made for good television for the producers, I wouldn’t be surprised if they brought her back.

And Alexis Grace’s father is Meatloaf???

  • BlankSlate

Thanks SO much for the clips, MJ. I didn’t get to see the show tonight. You brought it on back home for us. My gratitude.

Not feeling a thing for GokeyMan. Not a whit.

Alexis reminds me of a younger Dolly Parton. I think she’s got something going on there. Her parents are Good TV. That dad should get a lot of attention. But her voice blows any of the others in her group of 12 away so without much fanfare in the pre-Live shows, she’s doing okay.

Michael Sarver IS Josh Gracin. I am convinced that you will never see those 2 in the same room. I did not like Simon’s obvious call to arms to make sure this man is in the top 12. I hate when the audience does the orchestrated, fake standing-on-feet thing as if Sarver’s first half-note compelled them to rise up on command. Noooooo. He is awful. Nothing there to see. Not sure why he was an automatic top 12 because there is no way he is better than any of the better singers in the remaining 24 contestants. That last second move to put him on this week’s show was an obvious marketing thing. The producers wanted him in top 12. End of story.

I am fairly certain we have not seen the end of Tatiana. And you know… in the end, she sort of earned a few appealing points in her favor… Don’t know what it is but she makes you watch her… I think she’s Wild Card material. Brought back for entertainment value. (This could apply to Norman Gentle or.. Headband Boy as well.. I forget his name right now.)

Not feeling high hopes yet for Season 8. That “friend” holding up the photo of Mrs. Gokey made me ill. I’m feeling manipulated and that is so not a good thing. Danny, you’re using up your lifelines very, very quickly…. (And your voice does not warrant the adulation so… don’t get too comfortable up there.)

  • jersey

I’m obviously in the minority here but I like Michael Sarver. I hated the song he chose but I loved his audition – and in his sing off with Matt B. he was definitely the winner. I’m willing to hold out hope for his come back performance. I don’t think he’ll win, and he may be one of the first two boots, but I actually like him more than Anoop – who I also like.

    Danny does nothing for me.

Alexis was better than all of them, however. I’ve never had a girl favorite; I generally prefer male voices. That may change this year, though.

  • BootStar

Randy says he was pleased with last night. Kara also thought it was a good show.

Can we utilize some of the lie-detection techniques we’re learning on the show that follows, Lie To Me? Because if Randy and Kara really believe this, they’re more deluded than poor Tatiana.

  • MaryS-NJ

Speaking of fodder, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll be the lone voice over here rooting for Kai to somehow do well enough to make the wildcard since I thought his voice was gorgeous in his audition. I wish he were in group 3, which looks just dire.

I like Kai too. He’s my Eye-Candy Idol so far this season and I liked his audition. He’s probably got no chance of winning but I’ll gladly enjoy his presence for as long as he’s there.

I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t hate Danny. If he picks better songs and sings them well he has a chance of winning my vote. In the end ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s still all about the voice. His ainà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t bad. I just am not over the moon about him. He is easy to screw with though. He makes it so easy. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s working for him so far.

Yeah, this. I like Danny. I’m not heavily invested but so far he’s one of my favorite male singers this season. Ultimately, it comes down to the voice, the ability to perform and the ability to keep from cracking under the pressure. I’m taking a wait-and-see. There are two more groups to go yet and I haven’t picked a pony for the season yet.

  • BlankSlate

Michael Sarver also reminds me of another AI -stereotype: The Country Schlub. They had it with Sundance Head. (Just typing that name cracks me up.) And remember freaky Scott Savol? (I always picturing him throwing a chair at his wife when his name comes up.) Sarver has that husky, windbreaker-jacket look that reeks of all the past good ol boys from seasons past that have no rhythm or screen appeal.

  • Pixie Baker

Wow, I am really surprised about the reaction of many to Danny Gokey last night. I personally thought he looked very nervous and not comfortable at all when he was waiting for the results. I guess for many he looked rude….my take was that he was really spaced out because of nerves. I am a little uncomfortable with the reference to his wife’s death but it seems like it is very fresh on his heart and it takes time for someone to not have that consume your every thought. For me, this does not seem as a ploy….just a honest reaction going on with him and his family. Right now it is defining him…..very normal when a tragedy happens…………………Pix

  • t2

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m officially bored with disliking Danny already. At least heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s off my TV for three weeks (although I will expect closeups of him in the audience while the fodder sings next week). I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t even care about the photo of the wife or the not hugging Tatiana. I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t like the so-so singing and the pimping for the so-so singing. Alexis wiped the floor with Danny and Michael tonight. I think Michael will finish in the Chikezie spot.

    Cheese, yeah this.

I was so disgusted by the manipulations the Tuesday and Wednesday, that I couldn’t even enjoy the “Happy Dance” of the next group. Maybe this season will have to end at Hollywood for me.

If Anoop and Sarver had changed positions in the line-up, Anoop goes through. Being smack in the middle is the kiss of death in the beginning rounds. Good on little Alexis (the one sole bright spot this week) for actually WINNING her seat.

Keep an eye on performance order next week. With this format, it’s all about performance order.

Here’s hoping that little Kris Allen can do enough to get in the Wild Card show. I have a feeling he’s the overlooked talent this year.

I’m not tuning in for the !!Gokey!! show, so at least I have the next two-three weeks of peace and quiet.

p.s. Dear ai PTB, this is how you lose viewers. Extreme and over-the-top pimping of contestants at the expense of all other contestants. Really, just ends up ticking off the viewers…

  • SparklesATL

edit: we aren’t fighting season 7 fan wars here. sorry.

  • BootStar

Just for the record, I don’t hate Danny.

Unfortunately for Danny, his backstory is being overplayed, and a lot of folks out there have had bad experiences with overzealous evangelical types and, like it or not, the information about his church is out there. The bad comes with the good. I don’t doubt his sincerity, that he believes that good can come from the tragedy of his wife’s death, and that his being on Idol is part of some higher divine calling, but what folks like Danny don’t realize is that for a lot of Americans, including many of those of faith, this personalized relationship with God thing is outright offensive. It borders on blasphemous. Add to that that he’s not that great and that he’s allowing TPTB to manipulate his backstory, and he’s playing with fire. If he ends up a shock-boot, he’ll find a way to incorporate that into his story, too, and that’s fine, but please don’t tell me it was “God’s will.” Just because something happened doesn’t make it God’s will.

And I’m sorry, but I think what they’re doing to Tatiana is bordering on abuse. She’s mentally unhinged if she’s not playing a character up there. They’re treating her like a human pinata, and I find it repugnant after what happened with that sad Paula woman (no, not that one!).

  • savgal

Agree with everyone who said Simon had a sour look on his face last night. Noticed he was not even watching Michael and Carly during their duet, but was half-turned away from them. Only time he showed any hint of a smile was when adorable Alexis found out she had made it through, and he did clap along with the other judges. IMO he is not thrilled so far, and I respect how he said on Tues. night to Danny that he is not buying all the hype yet.
Re: Danny’s reactions, OTOH I LOVED how Michael Sarver and Anoop stood there with their arms around each other’s shoulders, and Michael fell to his knees at the announcement. Personally think Anoop’s voice is better overall, and since someone kindly pointed out that the next highest vote-getter will be in WC, I feel so much better, knowing he still has a shot. I think Simon has a place in his heart for Michael because he sees him as the potential male Carrie Underwood. Certain men who would never vote in a million years would pick up the phone for a guy like Michael, I bet.
Re: comparing Danny with Sligh — Does Danny write music? Sligh’s new song that Rascal Flatts just put out is awesome. So excited for him!!!

  • sillypraguer

I just watched Alexis’ performance again – yes, amazing. And I love Ricky Braddy. His reaction when Ryan says Alexis is in the top 12 is so cute. He’s really happy for her. Nice guy.

  • t2

Does anyone else remember what Alexis sang in her audition?

And for anyone else who is interested, here’s my other theory. Without all of the !!Gokey!! pimping that the ai PTB have done this year, Anoop and Michael Sarver get through to the next round, with Ricky Braddy the Wild Card pick.

  • ParticleHustler

I thought it was great that the producers tried to set up Tatiana for a meltdown, and even though it didn’t happen, she still came off as a babbling, self-absorbed, incoherent character. Anyone notice how many times she got caught staring into the monitor and fixing her hair before the announcement? It was like she was transfixed on the image of herself on TV or something. I also thought it was awesome how long Danny celebrated as Tatiana stood next to him and cried before he acknowledged her. Sorry Tat, last night was for the winners, not for the sympathy everyone should be showing ONE of the NINE losers – some of whom will likely get another shot at making it anyway.

Still don’t know why the vote-off eps can’t be 30 minutes. What a waste of time. Glad I recorded it and skipped through all the junk.

  • jpfan

Last night had nothing to do with Tatiana. She was there for the drama with no chance of going anywhere. However, Danny should have smiled at her, taken her hand etc. It would have made him look like a good guy. He’ll be in the spotlight for weeks. So in the end, Tatiana ended up as sympathetic and he really hurt himself on the show. Which is pretty ironic.

    edit: season 7 is over.

  • http://www.myspace.com/swood1104 Sarah

And that would be awesome if it did come down to Adam vs. Danny.

Hahaha, I would love that. I would vote for Adam until my fingers bled. On 3 phones. Hah.

Better yet, I want to be a fly on the wall in that mansion if by some odd twist of fate, Adam, Nate, Von, Tatiana, and Nick/Normund actually all make the top 12. Because Danny has a better bitchface than most of the girls and I bet all of those people would drive him crazy. Hahahahah.

I seem to recall a past winner who every time he pulled out his guitar reminded everyone that he had a dying brother, and as the end of the show drew near, the big buzz was that the brother was flying out – with nurse in tow – on his deathbed to see his brother perform.

David Cook NEVER ONCE said anything about his brother on the show. Ryan gave him opportunity after opportunity to talk about it and he never did. I will give you that People and Access Hollywood or whoever covered his brother’s trip to Hollywood, but that’s maybe a few million people TOPS who knew that it was happening. It is NOT THE SAME THING as 25 million people being smacked in the face time after time on the show with clips of Danny proposing to his wife, someone holding up a picture in the audience, etc etc etc.

I had to TELL people at my work and in my family about David Cook’s sick brother because they don’t read the blogs and boards or read People online or watch Access Hollywood. But all they have to do to know about Danny’s dead wife is tune in to AI. COMPLETELY different situations.

And now I will shut up because I know mj doesn’t want these threads to devolve into comparing stuff like that, but comments like this have been driving me crazy because they are just not similar. AT ALL.

Oh yeah, I finally figured out who Casey Carlson was reminding me of on Tuesday night. To me, she looks a tad bit like Lacey Schwimmer. There was a point when she scrunched her face up right before they went into her intro package that I thought looked just like Lacey.

  • SpenserJ

Or Ace Hardware. Maybe Danny had the same premonition as SpenserJ about an industrial accident taking out a contestantà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s eyeball.

LOL – that made me giggle. I’m a demented human being.

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m obviously in the minority here but I like Michael Sarver. I hated the song he chose but I loved his audition – and in his sing off with Matt B. he was definitely the winner. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m willing to hold out hope for his come back performance.

Nope, you’re not alone at all. And, since he apparently got more votes from the viewers at home than about 9 of these other people – we can’t be the only ones.

LOL, Michael appeels to my screen. I don’t really see the similarities to these people, but i get the point. For me, Michael has a great voice – he may not have picked the best song this week – and he sure shouldn’t dance too much – but I do like the voice and that’s why I voted for him. I’ll just say that Michael has a better voice than both Sundance and Josh. And, while he may be a big husky guy – he’s not a rotund mutant like Scott Savol.

Also – I think it might have been a phone that Scott hurled at his girlfriend, but I’m not sure I remember the true weapon correctly. Plus, I totally forgot that dude even existed until right now LOL.

  • thedingoateyobaby

Gokey is just a temporary distraction imo. He’s toast once the others get a chance and its a long season. He’s a piece of talent amid a whole host of talent this year and he doesnt have much of a personality as far as I can see.

I hope Anoop makes it in the wild card round and next week I will be dialing my pretty little fingers off for Nick. God knows I need some entertainment in my television life and just a good voice wont do it.

    >>I want a new drug
One that won’t make me sick
One that won’t make me crash my car
Or make me feel three feet thick>>

Go Huey! I mean Nick! I mean Normannnnn!!!!!

PS—-if Nick is absolutely terrible, if he shows no sign of talent next week then I wont vote but I dont think that will happen and the judges will have a cow or two when he gets through. That in itself is worth it.

  • BlankSlate

Spenser: You’re right. Scott allegedly tossed a phone. Maybe our parents were right: cell phones and wireless phones cause PROBLEMS.

It’s wrong that I feel this nauseous about GokeyMan. Or should we call him OkeyGokey? Perhaps HokeyGokey?

Maybe he should have honored his wife by NOT competing. In my faith, we have a mourning period that lasts a year. Going out for AI would be during this time of mourning would be, well, not nice.

Cook never made an issue of his brother’s illness. Never held up photos of Adam hooked up to chemo. Methinks GokeyMan would do that in a heartbeat if he thought it would help. “Woooh!”

I don’t get why AI is pushing him to the extent they are I’ve heard kids in bad high school musicals sing better than he does.

And word to the wise: drop the Elton John glasses, Gokey. You are not this year’s Word Nerd.

  • ParticleHustler

I think the story about Cook’s brother came out, on air, eventually, but I do seem to recall him making an effort not to bring it up, even when his brother came to watch one of the April performances. I think what’s happened with Gokey is typical TV producer-mania – find one story that seems to resonate with people and go out of your way to find another, then jam it down everyone’s throats. TV producers are all the same, whether it’s a successful style of sitcom or drama, or reality TV in general, or what – they are all conditioned to be reactive to what people seem to like and then keep feeding us the same things, to the point of overkill.

I think Gokey and his friends are just going along with what the producers are asking for, and it will be up to him/them to scale it back once he returns in a couple of weeks. Given the backlash, he’d be stupid not to see that it could work against him.

  • KrazeeK120

::Waves to jersey and Spense:: I like Michael too!! I like him an Anoop about equally at this point…I thought Anoop really disappointed on Tuesday. But I have faith that he will get a wild card spot, so I’m not too worried.

Also, I thought Alexis did even better last night than she did on Tuesday! Wow she is good…I think she could be one to watch.

Lastly, I think the pool went from way too easy to way too hard. You have to correctly choose all 3 who advance to get all the points! I think you should have to choose 2 of them or something. Also, I hate bonus questions that are complete chance like…who gets told they are moving on first, a guy or a girl? Or, how many people will be told that they didn’t make it before someone is told that they do? And I NEVER get those types of questions right!!!! /rant

edit: stick to topic. Season 8

  • Lu

Well I’m kind of over the whole Danny’s backstory story. I just think he’s a nerdie looking guy with a decent voice. I have yet to figure out why 3/4 of the judges think he’s spectacular. A lot of idol backstories have been used. Danny is certainly not the first. But it doesn’t really matter to me. It’s all about the singing now and he’s just meh to me.

  • Suzanne

Ryan Seacrest must hate this new procedure. It’s so tedious to say no to 3/4 of the people. By two weeks from now he’s just going to be saying “you didn’t make it; thanks for comin’ out.” as if all the people did was go to one local audition.

The lack of suspense was shocking. They should have put Alexis through then Danny and had it come down to Michael or Tatiana. I get why they did the Michael/Anoop thing–b/c people who don’t check dialidol probably did feel a little suspense during that 90 seconds of the show. But Michael/Tatiana probably would have given the audience the same suspense at the end, and AI would have heightened the chance for a Tatiana melt down b/c she undoubtedly knew that she wasn’t going thru when it was her and Danny.

Sad–only a couple of people comforted Tatiana, and even they had to push themselves to do it. The group really did not like her at all, but they bonded well with each other.

I’m over the family in the lounge and Danny’s backstory.

  • bean99

And I love me some Carly and Michael, but I did not think they came across all that great tonight, and it seemed kinda cheezy that they reprised that number from last season. Talk about an afterthought.

Apparently they were just asked to do this on Sunday and they had to negotiate with the producers what song they’d do so they very well may have been told to do “The Letter” again, BootStar. I’d have liked to hear something else but there may not have been time to rehearse a new song.

I don’t know if the Danny backlash we see here is happening in the general public. Everyone I know likes him and certainly won’t be worrying about whether he dissed Tatiana. It was pretty obvious to me that the producers were hoping for drama by pairing him with her because we all knew he was the pick. For people like Tatiana it’s all about them and as someone pointed out, there were 8 others also going home.

I do think Anoop will be in the wildcard but it’s up in the air whether the judges will pick him as one of the 3. I really hope so but so much depends who doesn’t get in from the other 2 groups. My guess is they’ll pick 2 guys and 1 girl but you never know.

  • Suzanne

Michael’s re-sing: not good. He’s just a big ol’ guy who’s cute because he can sing a little. Like Matt Rogers (is that his name? The guy from season 3, came in 11th?). When it gets down to 12, Michael is not going to be competitive at all.

Danny’s re-sing: only decent. He wasn’t doing his best at all. I like his tone. I hope he stops picking sappy songs (hope you dance/hero).

Alexis’s re-sing: excellent. And she had the best song choice. A top 10 that’s not oversung and not in most karaoke libraries. For the young gal she is, she seems pretty savvy to the strategy of AI. Looking forward to more.

  • Dr. Tracey

    Perhaps HokeyGokey?

LMAO! Danny Hokey-Gokey. That’s a way better hypen than Paula’s.

The “boys” that AI are pushing, most notably Danny, Adam, Michael, Scott, etc. may be in danger of being over-hyped. Alexis’ sing out last night was even better and she outsang Michael and Dokey. The dynamics are interesting this year. They may oversaturate the hype around the boys while a few stealth girls make a less manufactured splash based on their talent, not their camera time and back story.

  • BlankSlate

Thanks — MaryS. Well, Alexis surely can sang. If they really wanted suspense, they should have had Alexis and Tatiana as the final two and then have Alexis close the show. Warwick has all but put his hand under !!Gokey!!’s (try this with Jazz Hands) butt and carried him to the chairs.

  • BlankSlate

Ouch. True. It’s the style that’s irksome in its Pinball Wizard comes to American Idol look that is in need of a refresher course.

  • calimari

I agree that Sarver represents the “regular working dude w/ country potential” that they always seem to have for likeability. I knew the top 3 would go this way w/ the tossup being between Sarver & Anoop, and that could have gone either way. I liked Anoop at the audition but he’s failed to be anything more than just another good voice in the sea to me, although I realize he has a lot of fans pulling for him. I do think they will save a wildcard for him so I’m not really worried about him.

The show dynamic would have been better if they did not do Danny/Tatiana last, against each other, giving Danny the pimp spot again because everyone knew there was no competition between those two. They should have done Tatiana vs. Alexis last – because those were the only 2 girls who performed last night – Alexis really well and Tatiana decently. And because of Tatiana being so polarizing, that would have been more suspenseful that perhaps Tat would have overcome Alexis.

I like Danny fine. I like his glasses. I like that he seems to have many pairs of glasses. I expect him to be a “shocking elimination” around 5th or 6th place.

It was nice to see Michael Johns looking quite hot in that retro 60′s suit – Carly can ease up on the eyeliner. Why did they sing that song? They did that on the finale. You mean to tell me that their first return to the Idol stage 9 months later all they could think to do is the same thing they did last time? Way to show growth.

I don;t think Ricky Braddy will be a wildcard pick ( although he certainly deserves a spot ! ) . There will only be three wildcard picks and I can already guarantee that Anoop gets one of them – possibly Jamar will get another . Then there is a possible for Ann Marie – there will be so many other ” favorites” not chosen in the other two groups that will need wildcards .
Altough Ricky outsang just about , if not ALL in his group , because we saw nothing of him at all prior to 2 nights ago , we will forget all about him as the producers intended.
I hope he makes it big – he is mucho talented .

Well I am holding out for a WOW moment and so far no one has delivered one so far .I am holding out hope for next week .
I knew Danny ,Alexis ,and Michael were in to the top 12 .
I never have been a fan of female singing so Alexis bugs me with her hair ,outfit and bad makeup .
Not on the Danny wagon either he is ok but I think there are others better.
I like Michael he seems down to earth .
Cannot wait till Wednesday (oh why do they make us wait even longer ?
Anyway ones for me to watch are
Matt.G,Kris Allen ,Kai ,and maybe even Matt B .
Don’t care for Adam he seems to OTT for my liking .

OH and where are those instruments ?Crossing fingers for a piano something from Matt G .

Oh Ricky was ok but its hard for me to be objective when he sings a song that someone else sang kind of better (Elliott )

Any news yet on who will sing next week on the elemination show ?
It be cool since they had Michael & Caryl come back who I think left 7 & 6 if they could bring back say 5&4 from last year for a singing duet .

edited out the season 7 stuff

I find the Danny backlash here interesting. I hated the way the producers shoved Danny’s dead wife in our face from the very beginning, and I hate watching it continue on my TV, but I won’t go so far as to hate Danny himself for it. Do I wish he hadn’t brought her up for the producers to use right off the bat? Sure, but he did, and now a lot of it is now out of his hands. IMO, DC’s situation was different because A) Adam’s still alive and B) not his wife. DC and his family were able to make a family decision beforehand to keep the whole situation out of the media because a sick brother who lives in another state is a lot easier to keep on the DL than a dead wife. I cut Danny quite a bit more slack because that is heavy heavy shit and you don’t get over that in a few years, much less a few months. Someone upthread said Danny needed to stop the pity party, and I just had to stop and think– wow, if my spouse just died, you better believe damn well I’m entitled to be sad/angry/confused/etc. without someone telling me it’s a pity party! I can’t even presume to understand what he must be going through, and how he’s dealing with this. The closest person in the world to him just died, and he’s going through an intense experience chasing his dream for her sake, in her memory– so I imagine “trotting her out” just feels natural to him. To his credit, Ryan baited him on Tuesday, asking what (who) he was envisioning when singing Hero, and he didn’t say Sophia, but made it a bit more vague. That said, I really wished he didn’t make the decision to go on the show– I think it was ill-advised TBH. Jacob the TWOP recapper made a really good point after Tuesday’s show and said it much better, so I’ll quote him:

Gokey talks about how believe in your dreams or whatever, and will of course be singing “Hero” by Mariah Carey, because his dead wife needs to keep inspiring people. And I don’t think all this is him being yucky or insincere or disingenuous, I think this is him just completely dunking the entire dead-wife thing, maybe even consciously, by focusing on this crap instead. … I’m not sure what the difference is between going on this show and getting a huge drinking problem is, for Danny, at this point, and mostly I think he should have been talked out of going on this show by the people that love him. …[My] gut says that there are plenty of people in Danny Gokey’s life who should have told him to allow himself to grieve rather than piling even more incredible stress onto an already top-heavy portion, who did not. And maybe they tried, and maybe he talked them out of it, and he’s an adult, but it just doesn’t seem very loving to let him go off chasing the white whale a month after her death, regardless of what he wants, or thinks he wants.

Point is, I see Gokey and I feel pity for him, not hate. Still not voting though.

If Anoop and Sarver had changed positions in the line-up, Anoop goes through. Being smack in the middle is the kiss of death in the beginning rounds. Good on little Alexis (the one sole bright spot this week) for actually WINNING her seat.

Keep an eye on performance order next week. With this format, ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s all about performance order.

Performance order can come into play when contestants are close. It really doesn’t matter if you knock it out of the park. Alexis sang 3rd. She was in the first quarter of the show. She was in a forgettable spot. She made you remember her by performing well.

Meanwhile, IMO, Anoop and Sarver came in with a lot of previous exposure and built in fan base (Anoop probably had the larger share) and both of them had a middling night. Anoop sang 6th (the exact same spot in the order that Archie/Brooke sang last year and Jordin/Nick sang two years ago during the first semi-final round of 12) while Michael sang 8th (last two years, that slot went to Kady, Luke, Sanjaya and Haley). I don’t think that the producers gifted Michael with the better spot. They both sang in the middle of the pack. Sometimes, it helps to sing before or after singers that tank (makes you look better), but these two got to sing between Stevie, Casey and Anne Marie, so I’m sure they both got the advantage from that one.

Anoop didn’t bring it on Tuesday. I’m sure he’ll get another chance. I’m not going to blame the producers for him not making it.

And Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m sorry, but I think what theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re doing to Tatiana is bordering on abuse. Sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s mentally unhinged if sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not playing a character up there. Theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re treating her like a human pinata, and I find it repugnant after what happened with that sad Paula woman (no, not that one!).

I have to agree. She annoys me to no end, but they are setting her up for these kinds of melt-downs and I don’t enjoy watching unhinged people being tormented. I do not find it amusing. The producers are being mega-jerks. I still cannot believe they pulled that stupid room move trick during Hollywood.

On the other hand, I don’t really have a problem with Danny’s reaction. From the early descriptions, I thought I’d see him grab the card of Ryan’s hand, spike it to the ground and do an end-zone dance while taunting Tatiana for being a LOSER. He did a brief celebration for winning and gave her a hug. I don’t think people have to apologize for winning. And after watching his friend (the guy from Hollywood) and somebody as good as Anoop get cut, he may have actually thought he might lose too. Certainly, AI does have surprises and it wasn’t like he was paired up against Casey. Tatiana actually did well last night.

That said, I’m not a fan of either Tatiana or Danny. I like Ricky and Alexis so far. I’m waiting to see what happens next week, but I suggest that even the “fan favourites” bring it next week. This new format doesn’t give one a lot of chances to stumble.

  • bean99

I think they’ll pick whoever they like and won’t be constricted by groups or even if they’re in the top 36 like Mj said, BlankSlate.

I like Danny’s glasses but then I work at an Optometrists so I’m used to people having several pair of glasses. If it works for you then go for it. I like him better with them.

I’m surprised how many liked Ricky Braddy. I thought he was a good singer but it was a forgetable performance for someone who should have worked harder given he hadn’t had much screen time if at all. I know Paula will be pulling for him getting a wildcard spot but am not sure he’ll get one.

Slezak wrote a song! I hope it’s ok to post this here…

“It’s official, everyone! Season 8 of American Idol is going to be nothing short of miraculous. Sick folks will be healed at the end of each and every results show. The economy will get rescued during a special Wall Street-themed edition of ”Idol Gives Back.” Randy Jackson will become articulate and concise before the beginning of April. And we’ll have one person to thank: The Robert Downey Jr. look-alike who, based on a single live performance, has been labeled ”the redeemer” and ”the hero” (of season 8 or the planet, it remains to be seen), has been envisioned playing ”sold-out arenas,” and has been charged by no less a social commentator than Kara DioGuardi with the tall order of ”giving us all hope.”
And because it is useless à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ no! in fact it is strictly verboten to resist him à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ I have written a song for this very special contestant, set to the tune of Mariah Carey’s ”Hero.” Please give it a listen, or better yet, sing along:

There’s a hero, if you look in the pimp slot
He’s the dude that Kara says can give us hope.
Will he survive? Ryan sure does like to tease us.
He’s the bespectacled Jesus, of season 8.

    When Danny Gokey comes along,
The magic lighting gets turned on.
    Then loving close-ups, they arrive,
And you know he will survive.

And just like that Anoop is gone.
He should have picked a better song.
And it becomes as clear as day,
    The producers got their way.”

For about 2 seconds, I thought she was going to pass out. She sort of swayed back and forth.

So can we have Slezak’s song for the next group number? Please? I can already picture the choreography. Hokey-gokey up on a platform – bathed in white light with a halo effect. Each contestant singing a line then bowing to the anointed one…………………………..

This. I love me some “Noop dawg, but as someone with good pre-semis exposure and a growing fanbase, he was all set up to sail into the finals with a good performance. But instead, he underwhelmed. That’s on him.

I am glad Alexis made it. I really want to see where she goes from here. I am not amused by Sarver. Would have preferred Ricky, but thems the brakes. I am ready for next weeks crew! That group seems to have quite a few good ones.

The elimination show was just last night. I’ll be pretty surprised if Danny rep among the general public doesn’t takes a dip. The Idol media seems to a have a pretty negative take on him already. Good news for him- he’ll vanish for three weeks so he’s got time to repair the damage.

I’m betting if he’d gone toward the end (after the trainwreck in the middle) it would have seemed a lot less forgettable. I’m usually not one to buy into the whole performance placement business, but I think in Ricky’s case it did come into play. His wasn’t the best performance ever, but IMO it was better than Danny’s.

  • calimari

OOh – wanted to add – I loved that Danny standing next to Tatiana – he kept his hands behind his back. No holding hands with that nutcase, no comforting her and telling her it’s OK. Totally cracked me up. At the end, he did give her a little hug, but still.

I noticed during his sing out everyone else was smiling & singing, but Tat was crying as if her situation was unique. I did think everyone handled themselves quite well with the bad news, though. And it was sort of refreshing to have the better singers do the singouts, happy, vs. the worst singers trying to do a singout through tears.

  • janerazor

I need Danny and his dead wife off my TV, like, yesterday, because that backstory is starting to smell bad. There’s just something creepy and calculated about Danny…something in his face…a facade of blessed melancholy penciled in on top of a cold and stony blandness. I should have known it from the first “Oh, I hate talking about this” during his audition, but I gave him a pass then. Cuz, hey, his wife had just died.

Alexis was good last night, but I recall hating her audition. I’m wondering if she’s going to be one of those burn-out fast contestants a la Stephanie Edwards (who totally killed with “How Come U Don’t Call Me Anymore”) or Ramiele Malubay (“You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me”). I think Alexis did that particular song well, but I’m thinking maybe she just made a really, really good song choice for herself. I’m not sold on her vocal chops.

I like Michael well enough (“big and cute” is how my daughter described him, lol), but I was pulling for Anoop, who I think is a better singer. Well, if/when Anoop makes the wild card round, I’m sure he will be able to pull out a good performance and leap into the top-12.

It annoys me to no end that in a top-24 format, Anoop would have easily made it into the top-12 and someone like Michael–engaging but not a lot of steam vocally–would have probably struggled to string together 3 performances good enough to put him into the top-12.

Snarky Slezak and a bunch OCD posters online do not equal the general public. There’s no damage to repair as I see it. Yes, he needs to be more careful, but he’s far from having any damage to clean up at this point among genera viewers.

I don’t want to keep having to remind people to stay on topic.

Posts that reference old seasons for no good reason–except to start fan wars–are going to be edited and deleted. Posters who deep breaking the rules are going to find their posts in moderation.

This is Season 8. Stick to the topic please. Only reference past seasons if you are making a very specific point about something that happened on the Idol stage.

    Thank you.

But Michael didn’t either. Of the two, I thought Anoop was better. YMMV of course.

I think Michael was helped by Simon’s “call to arms”–when he asked viewers to give him a second chance.

Having said that–the vote was close enough, no doubt Anoop will be a wild card.

  • DahKay

Gosh… I really didn’t like how Anne Marie, Brent and Stevie were told that they weren’t through… Like they were less important or something. I hope Anne Marie and Anoop have a chance in the Wild Card Show!

I like the 3 ones that are going to the Top 12… Although I’d like it better if Anoop was there instead of Michael (and I’m not an Asoop fan!)

For next week, I’d like to see; TOP MALE: Adam Lambert TOP FEMALE: Megan Corkrey and NEXT TOP VOTED: Kai Kalama, but I don’t know why I’ve got the feeling that it’s going to be Adam, Jasmine and Nick Mitchell.

I do think Danny needs to be more careful though so as not to let the tide that has begun here spill over into the general viewership who donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t do the online thing.

Be careful about what? I guess I don’t understand the criticism directed at Danny. Is it b/c he was so far ahead on DialIdol? You know. people might be voting for him b/c of his story, but maybe not. I personally thought he and Alexis had the best performances on Tuesday and I voted for both of them.

Regarding the debate as to whether Danny should be in the competition at all, given that his wife died w/in the past year, shouldn’t he do whatever he thinks is best? Hey, if this American Idol thing is filling his hours and his days with something to think about and work on that isn’t depair, sadness, or lonliness, then I think that’s got to be some good therapy for him.

I think Danny’s talented and I’m looking forward to more. I hope he makes real efforts to pick non-sentimental, non-sappy songs, and I do think that he looks better without the glasses–but Elvis Costello probably looks better without his glasses too.

  • jpfan

I’m not piling on Danny and his rep anymore but I actually took a look at the scary boards after the show. There are def alot of negative comments about his behavior last night. Anyway, he’s yesterday’s news for a month (I think).

  • Suzanne

But Michael didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t either. Of the two, I thought Anoop was better.

Yeah–I agree. But to me, it’s kind of splitting hairs. I have no desire to see either of those performances again. Anoop has the ability to be much better than he was on Tuesday; Michael probably can only be slightly better. Anoop’s more talented, but on the night, I thought they were both competitively mediocre.

  • Suzanne

About next week–I’m pretty excited. There are a lot of really talented people going next week. I hope they pick interesting songs.

  • ShariG

First, I just want to say thank you to MJ for these great videos. I have to work on Wednesday nights this spring and it is so nice to be able to come home and read and then as soon as possible watch the videos of the results show. They are great quality videos and I can’t believe how fast they are posted. Thank you very much.

The other thing I would like to say is that I love that we don’t all agree on this website and that we can, for the most part, respectfully disagree. I thought Danny rocked. He is by far my favorite of the guys at this stage of the competition. I don’t think it is his fault if AI is chosing to “Pimp” him and I think he deserves the spotlight.

I was sorry that Ricky didn’t make it through because he didn’t get enough exposure during Hollywood and actually did a great job on Tuesday night, in my opinion. Alexis was fantastic. She is my favorite girl and really brought it on Tuesday night and I think sounded even better during the results show. She’s kind of a Janis Joplin/Kelly Clarkson cross. Michael has the likeability quality. He’s a good singer, maybe not great, but good. I was hoping he would advance because I don’t think his song choice Tuesday did him justice.

I really hope that “America”, as they say, does not get turned off to Danny because AI has chosen to put him in the spotlight. He has talent and seems like a really nice guy and we have just started to see what he can do. He hasn’t yet had the voice coach and the performance coach, and the dresser and the hair people. I agree with those who say enough of the wife reminders. I can empathize, but now I hope he and AI focus on his performances.

I honestly hope to never again get as outrageoulsy committed to a performer as I did David Cook last season. It was brutal every single week worrying about whether he would make it throug. But, I am rooting for Danny at this stage of the competition. He’s my favorite of this top 12 followed by Alexis. I think they got it right with this top three.

  • IdolFanatic

What is all this about the 4th highest vote getter coming back for the Wildcard? Aren’t they still going to have choose fill 9 more Wildcard slots to equal another group of 12?

  • IdolFanatic

I am glad Michael made it…I liked him way better than Anoop this week. But whatever. Anoop WILL make via the Wildcard, so his fans need not despair. And hey, they get to see him perform again before he makes the Top 12…not a bad deal. Simon’s comment may have had some influence, but I think it still would’ve turned out the same way.

I actually thought Anoop was better too. But still, his “better” was just OK. If he had been good, Simon’s call-to-arms wouldn’t have mattered IMO.

If he doesn’t get a wildcard spot though, I’ll be pissed.

About next weekà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m pretty excited. There are a lot of really talented people going next week. I hope they pick interesting songs.

Me too! There are at least 6 of them I am really curious about. I just hope they don’t choke like this week’s crew. And please, can somebody pull out an instrument, sing in a non-bombastic style, change up a song, ANYTHING? I feel like I’m in a time warp and we jumped back to season 2. Yeesh.

  • cheese

Anoop was my favorite of Group 1, but he’ll get another chance. Actually looking at who’s in Group 3 and the schedule, I doubt that any of the bottom 8 in the group will even be called back for the Wild Card. The person who comes in 4th has all of 20 hours to prepare for the Thursday wildcard show. No wonder it’s so stacked with fodder.

I really hope that someone plays an instrument next week – if they’re not letting them use instruments in the semis for some reason, that’s just lame (although I guess Stephen implied that they couldn’t since he mentioned he was more comfortable at the piano). At the very least, I would expect to see Kai, Matt and Jesse play.

  • janerazor

    Forgot to add:
Jackie was pulling seriously weird faces during the group sing. It was like she was a drunk frat boy doing gross-out sex faces for his buddies’ amusement. I could almost here the “bla-la-la-la-la” rolling off her tongue.

    Edited to add:
I thought Carly had one too many sets of hair extensions in. Her head looked lumpy.

  • Kirsten

But Michael didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t either. Of the two, I thought Anoop was better. YMMV of course.

I didn’t claim that Michael brought it. I said I thought he had a middling performance. But, if Anoop had brought it, he would have made the finals, IMO. It’s not the producer’s fault he’s not in it yet.

I don’t think that Idol is a simple linear equation (ax b=c). I think the mathematics is very complex.

I think that Anoop is not in the finals for the following reasons:
    1) He had a middling performance that did not stand out to the casual viewers. If you weren’t already invested in him or remembered him from previous rounds, his performance just didn’t stand out.
    2) He picked a slow song that didn’t have any “WOW” moments. If he’d had amazing vocals, it may have helped. Michael picked a better known song (IMO) and it had a faster tempo. Those songs are shown to yield better results in the semis (if things are close).
    3) Ricky sang better than Anoop (IMO). I think that Ricky and Anoop might appeal to the same audience (good singers, kind of riffing, Elliott Yamin-ish style). Ricky had no fan base coming in (he might has well been dropped in by a UFO), so he had to steal votes from somebody. Plus, casual voters who like that kind of singer might have thrown their votes to Ricky instead of Anoop.
    4) People thought Anoop was a shoe in and didn’t vote.
    5) Anoop underperformed more than Michael. Michael performed closer to his potential so his fans were less disappointed
    6) Danny sang better than Anoop (IMO). Danny and Anoop were both featured a fair bit, so some Idol fanatics who watched everything will like them both. Danny performed better (and last. Singing last always helps), so he got the bulk of those kind of votes.

I think in the end, Anoop only had his diehard fans voting for him and that’s what did him in. If he’d been at all impressive, he would have sailed into the finals. Michael had his diehard fans and Brent tanked so he (Michael) owned the the vote for people who like kind of country good-old boy. Michael didn’t win by much, so even a slightly improved Anoop (or slightly worse Ricky/Danny) and he would have made it in. Michael didn’t have to sing better than Anoop to make the finale.

The producers were not sand-bagging Anoop, IMO.

Simon is pretty plugged into what kind of fan bases, relative sizes of them, and it aids him in his uncanny ability to “say what America is thinking”. I mean his script is usually more reflective of reality than Paula’s or Randy’s, he isn’t making those quips up in real time.

  • s0x_prisoner

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d bet some real dollars that Ricky and Anoop both actually make it through the Wild Card and into the Top 12 ~ UNLESS Anoop performs another à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Angelà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ then heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s toast. Doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t leave much room for anyone else in the Top 12, I suspect.

I certainly hope so. Problem is, I feel the producers want to even out the girl/guy ratio in the Top 12, and since 2 guys will most likely make it out of Group 2, they would try to get at least 2 girls in through the wild card. I don’t know, just my opinion!

  • MJfan

it was nice to see MJ last night, but wish he would have sang the duet with Brooke instead, which I really love….
I also thought the last announced should have been Michael VS Anoop. The only drama of Danny VS Tat was if she was going to faint or smack him. I dont think she can handle a Wild Card loss, so hopefully we have seen the last of her, but I am sure the drama will return.
As of now, I am on the Gokey Express. I like him.
I do hope Ricky makes the Wild Card show…. god help me, I might have to rely on Paula to get it done… talk about scary

I agree, but it could be argued with the way they are pimping Danny, they are sand-bagging everyone else.

  • Jocelin

I don’t think the judges sandbagged Anoop at all. His song choice was not dynamic enough at all. It lacked moments to riff in a dramatic way. It lacked rhythmic variety and it was a song that couldn’t benefit from stagecraft or lighting. However, in hindsight, listening with ears only, his vocal produced the most current, commercial sound on that stage. It could have gone either way between Michael and Anoop. I thought Ricky had a good vocal too ( I put him second that night) but it was too old-fashioned.

Jacob the TWOP recapper made a really good point after Tuesdayà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s show and said it much better, so Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll quote him:

Gokey talks about how believe in your dreams or whatever, and will of course be singing à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Heroà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ by Mariah Carey, because his dead wife needs to keep inspiring people. And I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think all this is him being yucky or insincere or disingenuous, I think this is him just completely dunking the entire dead-wife thing, maybe even consciously, by focusing on this crap instead. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not sure what the difference is between going on this show and getting a huge drinking problem is, for Danny, at this point, and mostly I think he should have been talked out of going on this show by the people that love him. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦[My] gut says that there are plenty of people in Danny Gokeyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s life who should have told him to allow himself to grieve rather than piling even more incredible stress onto an already top-heavy portion, who did not. And maybe they tried, and maybe he talked them out of it, and heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s an adult, but it just doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t seem very loving to let him go off chasing the white whale a month after her death, regardless of what he wants, or thinks he wants.

This has been my take Danny. I think he did the audition in a somewhat spontaneous move and it it took a life of its own. It’s a form of denial that is unfortunately publicly displayed.

Anyways, I think Danny is a good singer with some potential who is going through and dealing with a horrific personal loss in a way that most people cannot comprehend.

He’s not my favorite but I’m not jumping on the hate wagon either.

    Food for thought…

Last year top 24, This year top 36. We had NO say on 12 people who didn’t make it into the top echelon last year…at least this year the voters have an opportunity to vote for their early favorites.

Last year 12 guys, 12 girls= 6 of each for top 12. This year, It could very well be 9&3 or 8&4 (if the wild card choices are at least 1 guy 1 girl). Gender doesn’t play as big a part this year.

Last year…bad sing on opening night and your OUT, no second chances for anyone. This year…all 9 who were eliminated last night still have a chance to get into top 12. And, don’t kid yourselves, the judges read the press and have their peeps peruse the internet. They know what contestants have made an impact on the fans, whether negative or positive. This could help the good singers who had a bad night or the good singers who didn’t get the opportunity to stir up the fans before they had their first sing. And TPTB want to keep people in the competition who will keep the viewers and voters coming back.

Last year theme night from the get-go, this year open choice. At least this allows the contestants to sink or swim based on their own perceived choice of what song, genre, style, whatever is best for them.

I’m one of those people who like change just because it shakes things up. I don’t think it is a bad idea to change the format. Indicating that Anoop lost by 20,000 votes will spur people to dial harder for their favorites..more votes more revenue for AI.

I might be the only one, but I was so not sweating Anoop missing the Top 12 because I’m that confident that he’ll be back as a wild card contestant.

Now, if that doesn’t happen, I’ll freak.

I agree that the biggest turn off for me is the “arrogance.”
I really hate it when AI contestants get a little…cough…full of themselves.

I think that’s the reason Danny is starting to get on my nerves.
I like confidence, but there is something about him that really irks me.
I’m not sure if it’s about his wife (RIP).

    Remember Taylor Hicks! He.Really.Got.On.My.Nerves.
I could never see that guy as an artist.

Dear AI Contestants-Don’t believe your own press until you have won the competition. There are a lot of past contestants that you never hear about & I’m sure they thought they were the next big thing. It’s a tough industry. It takes more than a sad story to make it.

Tatiana-You annoyed the …. out of me, but I believe you really have a passion for music. I don’t think she was in this to be an AI winner. I think she really loves to sing. Too bad you were ANNOYING as all ….!

    If Norman gets in…zzzzzzz

Wow what a horrendously boring show so far. Tuesday night was a huge suckfest. Sure there were a couple of good people, Alexis, Ricky, Danny was ok but no one blew me away. I saw no *star* quality from any of them so far.

Last night’s show was no better. I hate the new format & this year there is too much emphasis on the judges. How did Michael get through? His singing last night was horrible. Did they have to take *she who lost her marbles* to the psych ward afer the show? If she is not acting, they may want to tread carefully with that one.

The MJ/Carly retread I could have done without. Nothing newer?

I feel like the Grinch who stole Christmas with this comment, lol.

Bring on Adam, at least I know the boy can sing. I was sure hoping for someone to reach out and surprise me. No such luck so far.

Well, Jacob…’s recap for Wednesday’s show is titled How to Lose Friends & Alienate People:

Whom does Paula think “deserves” to go through? She’s not saying. “With this show it’s hard to say and now it’s going you know you can’t take anything for granted you have to vote vote vote for everyone that you love it’s tough. But you want me to answer. Danny.” He smiles, the crowd goes wild, and the ring on Tatiana’s finger begins to burn as cold as ice! Ryan holds out the envelope, and then pisses Danny off by kicking it to another break. He rolls his eyes like a manic freak, managing to make Tati look like a class act by comparison,

Tatiana immediately loses her ability to stand, not that Danny would notice since he’s too busy clapping and cheering for himself, and then she wanders the world hugging people at random and begging for attention. Which is still not as annoying as Danny’s oblivious, shitty behavior. Man, you gotta be some kind of douche to level the playing field between yourself and an assclown of that magnitude simply by acting like a jerk in ways a toddler would know to avoid. Danny sings and sings and sings, and Tatiana cries and cries and shakes and shivers, and then? And motherfucking then?

His posse-member or possibly brother-in-law holds a picture of Danny and his fucking dead wife up to the camera with like one single Indian Chief tear rolling down his face.

I will just never stop barfing.

  • Suzanne

I certainly hope so. Problem is, I feel the producers want to even out the girl/guy ratio in the Top 12, and since 2 guys will most likely make it out of Group 2, they would try to get at least 2 girls in through the wild card.

Yup–that is totally going to happen. The Judges evened out the ratio in Season 2 by their wildcard picks. Next week it will definitely be two guys and one girl through. Who knows about the next week, but by wildcard night, there will be 5 or possibly even 6 guys sitting in those 9 filled silver stools. To even it out, the judges will have to pick 2 or even all 3 as girls.

I don’t think that the show will give up Anoop. He’s just too different, and there’s really a lot of people in the US with middle eastern heritage who would love to see someone who kind of looks like them in the competition. (Anoop is talented; I’m just saying that diversity among the contestants helps to widen the audience.)

So maybe it’ll be 7 and 5? But it won’t be more guys than that. Did you see Canadian Idol last year? (Or Season 3 of AI?) Four people of the same gender at the end got kind of boring.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

The producers were not sand-bagging Anoop, IMO.

    I didn’t say that.

But, I think if Simon hadn’t urged fans to vote for Michael, Anoop might have been able to overcome the slim voting margin between them. I realize all sorts of subtle influences come into play here, but Simon has the last word, and yes I think what he says influences the vote one way or another.

However, I agree, if Anoop had hit one out of the park, he would have taken the spot.

  • SpenserJ

Because, really, what normal, everyday, working person could afford that many pairs of prescription glasses?

It’s probably easier if you have your own charity.

I might be the only one, but I was so not sweating Anoop missing the Top 12 because Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m that confident that heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll be back as a wild card contestant.

    Now, if that doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t happen, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll freak.

I’m in that boat with you. I’m looking forward to seeing Anoop on the wildcard show. I was disappointed in Anoops song choice, because he seems like such a fun person. Especially the fact that he pulled out My Prerogative in Hollywood. I guess I was expecting something a lot more fun, with a lot more personality with maybe some glory notes thrown in so he could show the viewers he could sing. So, my own personal disappointment stemmed from the fact that I like Anoop, and he bored me on Tuesday.

Bring on Adam, at least I know the boy can sing. I was sure hoping for someone to reach out and surprise me. No such luck so far.

I’m hoping very much that Adaminelli doesn’t screech at me when it’s his turn. And, since I’ve busted his chops so often, I do feel compelled to admit that he cracked me up in his little dance segment last night. It was a wee bit endearing.

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

I still think Anoop has a HUGE fan base. I also think Michael Sarver got through of the votes of more casual viewers – those who were “called to arms” by Simon Cowell.

Anoop is a popular contestant who is HUGELY popular on his college campus. That’s a target demographic for American Idol. I can’t see them letting him go.

Yupà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’that is totally going to happen.

I hope not. Maybe it’s just producer manipulation, but there seems to be more talented guys this year than girls.

Plus, in Season 3, they didn’t “even it out”. After the 4 semi-final rounds, they had 2 men (Mathew Rodgers (2) and John “Red” Stevens(4)) and 6 women (Fantasia & Diana (1), Camile (2), Latoya & Amy (3) and Jasmine (4)). The judges went on to pick 2 more women (Jennifer Hudson (Randy) and Leah Labelle (Paula)) and 1 man (George Huff (Simon)) in the wildard. JPL won the fan vote. That left us with 8 women and 4 men and the tour tanked. I think that TPTB have noticed that men are good for the tour and that “evening thing up” isn’t necessary. I think that the new semi-final format in Season 4 was to try to get more men in the finale because the big voiced singers tended to get all the spots (and women were more likely to be big voiced and wow the crowd in one night).

Note that back in Season 1-3, there was no gender equivalency imposed during the semi-final rounds (two women won in two of the four weeks in S3). I think that given the way TPTB have been doing things this year, I think that they want more men in the finale and imposed the top “gender” rules this week to make sure a few women got in. Despite Alexis being the performance of the night (IMO), I wouldn’t be surprised if Anoop beat her in the voting and would have made the final under the old rules.

Actually, I think Anoop will come out of this better than if he’d gotten into the finals with a sub-par performance. Nobody has a reason for hating on him for getting advanced when he didn’t deserve it. People are outraged he didn’t make it (always better to have people think you were booted too soon than to overstay your welcome). He’s fans have been given a kick in the pants to vote!vote!vote!. He gets another chance to sing and win fans. And I would be very, very surprised if he doesn’t get advanced in the wild card. Ryan made sure that he had lots of chances to appear likeable and memorable last night. I’m sure the producers suggested that he do that. They don’t feature people in a positive light for no reason.

Because, really, what normal, everyday, working person could afford that many pairs of prescription glasses?

People choose their own things to spend money on. I know a person who spends all her extra money travelling. Another person buys those shoes featured on Sex In the City (and they are like $600 a pair). Still another leases a new car every couple of years. Some people ski. Some people go clubbing every weekend (booze can be expensive and I’m thinking Danny doesn’t drink). Some people smoke. Some get manicures every couple of weeks. Maybe glasses are just his “thing” that he wastes money on?

  • TwigLA

I read the comments here before watching the show both nights. I fell asleep on the 2 hour show (yes, it was that boring) and was very happy that mj posted the videos here. Some were better than I expected, some worse, the bad were just bad.

Very happy that Alexis Grace was top female as she really performed very well and I like her look and sound. Visually, she reminds me of a young Debra Harry. I don’t see Dolly Parton there at all.
Alexis was one of my ‘ones to watch’ in the auditions. She was the only one to come close to wowing me on Tuesday.

Danny Gokey turns me off and I can’t quite put my finger on it. I find him to be an average singer and without the emotional manipulation, I doubt we’d pay too much attention to him. Plus Hero just screams Disney to me.

I like Michael Sarver and I’m happy for him to get a shot. He’s the Teamster vote, from my point of view. However, I think Ricky Bratton was far the best male vocalist on Tuesday and overall I think Anoop should have made the finals over Michael or Danny.

I can’t stand Tatiana, but I do feel bad at how they are exploiting her. I was glad to see her shut down the crazy on them … though she still seemed crazy to me, maybe even more so. It’s downright cruel. I don’t really expect her to get a wild card spot after last night.

I think this year they are really pandering to the VFTW crowd by giving them a wealth of bad to root for. The ‘if you can’t beat them, join them’ attitude.

I hate the repetition of back story on people. Do it for all or do for none. It sways the vote. Same with rerunning of auditions whether it’s a really good one or someone screwing up. If they screwed up that bad, why are they even in the 36?

I’m interested in how it all will play out. I’m really hoping Felicia Barton makes final 12. I’ll be happy with that.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

I don’t think the producers are worried about gender equality this year, or they would have imposed it from the top down like they did Seasons 4-7.

I think it’s likely there will be more boys than girls in this cast. The cast will resemble Season 3 (8 girls, 4 boys) but in reverse. And yes, the boys are the big draw on the tour.

  • savgal

Do you think they are going to pick one wild card contestant per group or could they take 1 from column A, two from column B, etc?

Someone earlier quoted an article that said the fourth top vote-getter of each group will be a wild card, plus any others that the judges decide to bring back, for a total of around ten or so. I think the poster said they would have their own elimination episode and we will then get to vote the top 3 wild cards into the final 12.
I was wondering if the judges will each get to pick a couple of their personal favorites, rather than voting on them among themselves. This could be someone like those that they defended at The Chair, as in saying “This was NOT unanimous”, when someone was told they were leaving. Would be kind of sweet if that judge’s pick went on to do really well in the show, giving them some braggin’ rights so they could say “nyah, nyah!” to the other judges.

  • primeminister

I think the poster said they would have their own elimination episode and we will then get to vote the top 3 wild cards into the final 12.

No, that is incorrect. We will not get to vote for the wild cards.

  • hcpoirot

Anoop place in top 12 thru Wild Card is not 100% . Cause if the result of 9 spots of top 12 are 6 boys and 3 girls. I bet the judges will pick 3 gilrs as wild card to balance out the boys.

Next week I bet two guys will move in to top 12 from group 2. That will be between Adam L, Matt G and Normund.

Group 3 will have Scott ( 1 spot) and battle between Von Smith and Drama queen Nathaniel.

The only way for the wild card boys to move into top 12 will be:

    1. The result of 3 groups will be at least 5 boys and 4 girls.

    or;

    2. The boys had to performed once in a lifetime performance in the wild card.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

Also: Just to clarify on the sandbagging issue.

There is no doubt in my mind that the producers want Anoop in their Top 12. He’s going to be advanced through the wild card, no doubt. I think they want both Michael and Anoop in the Top 12, So yes, I think Simon was trying to save Michael Tuesday night with his remarks, but not necessarily at the expense of any other contestant. Because, of course, there’s going to be that wildcard, and the judges will ultimately get to choose.

The wildcard will be very good for Anoop–but only if he performs well. If he doesn’t, and the judges advance him anyway, there could be some backlash. It will look like the worst kind of pimping.

  • CRB

The producers are going to have a little sideshow episode where they pretend to have a night of singing “competition” for the three wild cards. But rest assured they know exactly who they want in the cast and if they can get Micheal over Anoop in round one they will definitely get the people they want in the Top 12 and, much more importantly, on the Idols Live tour.

  • SpenserJ

Group 3 will have Scott ( 1 spot) and battle between Von Smith and Drama queen Nathaniel.

I actually think that group 3 is where we’ll get 2 girls through and 1 guy. I don’t know which guy it is, but I’m betting that Nathaniel is just too weird for the viewing audience, so I don’t think it’s him.

I think they’ve invested way too much screen time in Anoop for him not to be one of the judges 3 picks. I could be wrong, but I’m pretty confident that Anoop will wind up in the top 12.

ETA: Also, I think TPTB are probably aware at this point that Anoop would likely be a big draw on the tour.

So yes, I think Simon was trying to save Michael Tuesday night with his remarks, but not necessarily at the expense of any other contestant.

I think that’s highly likely. I’d also add that to me, Michael comes across on TV as pretty darn likable. And, I think in any TV talent contest, that counts for a lot. If this show was based soley on vocal ability, it would be on the radio.

So how does the Wild Card week work?

Do 12 people get to come back and sing again, with another 3 making it?

or do the judges just pick 3 people from the people who didnt make it?

I see the wild card show is Thursday March 6, but its only a hour long.. Obviously, another group of 12 isnt going to sing again.

I still don’t get the statement that Anoop has had screen time. I’ve watched and watched and counted and counted and he still has less screen time then 60% of the contestants.

I think that the “perception” is out there because most of us internet users have drunk from the youtube well. Also, the perception exists because he does make an impression on people. Isn’t that a good thing?

  • pmoran

according to the Idol TV schedule, the “wild card” show is only one hour. They’re going to have people sing AND pick the 3 wild cards in only one hour?

  • LK09

I really want ANoop to be in the Top 12. can someone PLEASE explain to me exactly how wild card round works? thanks so much!

I am on the fence about Anoop still, but I know there are many others who really want him. My husband, who watches AI but isn’t all that into it had some interesing insight. He pointed out that if the guys are very strong, we could possibly get 2 guys every week, so then Anoop will be out because of the 6 guys and 6 girls things…. So the best thing the Anoop fans could do is vote heavily for the third person to be a girl. That could be tricky trying to figure it out, but it was pretty obvious this week who the first two would be by how well they did and the judge pimping. The third person was the questionable one.

  • SpenserJ

I think that Anoop comes across very well and is a totally likable guy. Maybe I’m wrong about the screen time – it’s hard to tell who’s getting what on the Danny show these days. But, I haven’t watched any of the Youtube stuff.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

we could possibly get 2 guys every week, so then Anoop will be out because of the 6 guys and 6 girls things….

As we have been discussing here, there is no “6 guy 6 girl thing” this year. The gender balance could very well be unequal in this setup. In fact, I bet there will be more guys than girls. Just like in Season 3, where there were more girls. But it will be reversed this year.

  • juliec

Am always in this site but I seldom post and thought of chiming in today. Am not a fan of anyone this season but i still watch American Idol. I think people shld not judge Danny Gokey so hastily because its not easy dealing with grief. I know because I have to deal with it and its harder if its your spouse. I dont believe that he is being pimped either, maybe his voice really stands out “live” just like Archie last year. On the whole Tatiana thing, I think Danny was a bit awkward or a little lost on how to handle her because Tatiana was already trying to stay away from him and Ryan during that time and he eventually hugged her when Tatiana seemed to be okey with it. Also, pls don t take it against him that Idol is mentioning his wife, its not his fault and I believe you dont have to pity vote, you can vote for him if he performed well. Based on the first group, no one really was great and I think Danny just stood out more because nobody else did not even Anoop really stood out.

  • IdolFanatic

For the girls that have yet to sing, I really hoping that Felicia, Kristen, and Mishavona all make good impressions. Love their voices!

  • LK09

Thanks MJ. I have not had time to read every comment in this thread, so I missed that. That bodes well for Anoop.

    Ok,
forgetting about my preference for Anoop, or anyone else for that matter.

Does anyone know how the wild card show is going to work?

its only one show, and its only a one hour show and at the end of it the final 3 finalists are going to be revealed.

ARe people selected going to have to sing again? cant imagine a lot of singers and selections in just a one time, one hour show.

  • savgal

Hereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s what Ken Warwick, American Idol executive producer, says about the process:

à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“The fourth from those three shows will go through and then the judges can add to it, anybody they like that they thought maybe they knew was better and was just off form. Maybe they picked the wrong song. Whatever reason they choose, they can make that fourth show up to probably about nine or ten people, I havenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t quite decided yet. And then, they will decide who the final three will be.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

Thanks, primeminister, I stand corrected — we do NOT get to vote for the wild card, the judges do.
So, I still am wondering how they “decide” about the final three. Wouldn’t it stink to think you are out, then get called back for the wild card, only to be told yet AGAIN, very arbitrarily, that you are out? Will there be some more sing-offs? And if it is two judges vs. two judges, I assume Simon get veto power again?

I am all for 8 guys 4 girls Top 12, and 8 guys 2 girls Top 10 on the AI Tour. I can’t imagine TPTB not liking that possibility. either. Last year I thought at least 70 % of the concert goers were female fans cheering on the guys. Most of the girls were used as potty breaks, refreshment breaks, etc.

  • yf7184

ETA: Also, I am thinking Anoop on top 3 (and therefor Anoop Home Coming) is HUGELY a good thing! He’ll go back to UNC, and the students go nuts! That’s a total win scenario for TPTB, IMHO.

  • hypertwink

Take out the backstory, and Gokey is not that great. If he doesn’t improve and goes on to win, Ai might have a big problem selling him to the public.

  • s0x_prisoner

I actually think that group 3 is where weà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll get 2 girls through and 1 guy. I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t know which guy it is, but Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m betting that Nathaniel is just too weird for the viewing audience, so I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s him.

Yeah, I agree. The girls in Group 3 are strong, and the guys aren’t as good, imo.

Felicia Barton, Arianna Afsar, Kristen McNamara, Lil Rounds, Kendall Beard, Taylor Vaifanua. That’s pretty tough competition.

  • cay

I think Anoop’s status is up to what happens in the final two rounds. What if Kris (whose fanbase is quickly growing), Kai (appeals to Sarver audience) and/or Normand make it through? What if Scott and/or Von is left out of third round?

Unless they flounder terribly, I think they will pick Matt and Adam from the wildcard round first. (And they’d have to do just terrible b/c they were fine with giving Michael Sarver a second chance).

Of all the guys left, I think they’d take Anoop over Scott, Von, Ricky, Kris but MAYBE (haven’t seen them perform) not Adam and Matt. I also think it will only be 7 guys.

If Adam and Matt are the two picked next week I think Anoop can rest easy that he’s in. But anything can happen. I’m actually excited to hear some girls and I like the girls on tour. If Anoop makes top 12, I think he’ll continue into the top 10.

  • lakerchristinee

I’m liking Anoop in the wildcard. I am confident that he’ll give an awesome upbeat performance that people can soak up and also replay his Angel of Mine in their head. This way, we’ll see him right before the Top 12 show, which will be fantastic instead of going 2 empty weeks without a peek at him.

MJ, I hate to have three posts in a row, but I wanted to tell the West Coast peeps that Anoop’s performance was highlighted on Ellen’s Show this morning AND she is upset that he was eliminated.
