American Idol 9 Top 4 Results – Recap Roundup

‘American Idol’: On the scene for Top 4 results, plus shrieking girls, crying babies, and edible neckties

Tween girls of the Idoldome, could you please explain your rationale behind shrieking? I understand that you’re quite excited about seeing Lee DeWyze in the flesh, and that by shrieking, you increase the odds of Lee spotting you, falling desperately in love, and marrying you that night by about 0.000003 percent. (Well, technically zero percent since you’re underage, but for you, Lee could wait forever). But, still, y’all could have given me and my ears a heads up beforehand. Anyhow, judging by the aural measurements I conducted at last night’s results show, I’m starting to wonder if the tide has turned in favor of Lee.

‘American Idol’ recap: Film schooled

Let’s face it, after last night’s results show that sent one of season 9’s most polarizing contestants packing, everyone has a hole in his or her Idol heart for one reason or another.

First, you have the nostalgic group, the ones who wept at the sight of our past contestants in the montage video of hometown visits, while simultaneously crying out, ”Why, God? Why!?” A few in this group probably couldn’t help but crack a hint of a smile when Fantasia belted a rendition of ”Bittersweet” with enough vitality to reach into the depths of our dark souls and shed a little light, or when Daughtry’s voice once again echoed off the walls of the Idoldome with power unheard of for most (if not all) of season 9.

Big Mike finishes in 4th place

“American Idol” wound up with an unsurprising result on Wednesday, but don’t worry about the ratings … Ryan Seacrest and the gang wrung every ounce of suspense possible out of the evening anyway.

Michael Lynche got kicked off, earning him a fourth-place finish and sending him home just short of his goal, which was a top-three finish that would allow him to show off before his hometown AT&T store. Seriously, “Idol” fans, that’s just mean. The man didn’t ask to win, just a chance to get into a parade in St. Petersburg, Fla. Was that too much to ask?

‘American Idol’ offers up a difficult goodbye

Some “American Idol” contestants are harder to say goodbye to than others. In addition to performances by Fantasia, Daughtry and Bon Jovi, Wednesday night’s elimination show brought a tough farewell.

Let’s face it, by this time we have a pretty good sense of what’s at stake for each of the remaining “Idol” contestants. We know how bad they want it. We have a sense of why they want it. We even know how hard they’ll work and how much they’ll sacrifice to get it.

Michael Lynche Sent Packing On ‘American Idol’

This week on “American Idol, ” the final four tackled the songs of the silver screen, and somewhat fittingly, Wednesday night’s (May 12) elimination show was a dramatic ride, one that kept the audience guessing until the last moment.

Most assumed front-runners Lee Dewyze and Crystal Bowersox would make it through to the top three, especially following their much-praised duet on “Falling Slowly” (from the Oscar-winning “Once”). Knowing this, “Idol” producers left both hopefuls in the lurch, instead revealing that Casey James — who, once again, seemed to be the favorite to be sent packing after he plucked his way through a version of “Mrs. Robinson” — would be moving on to next week’s show.

‘American Idol’ Brings Its Roster Down To Three

Tonight’s episode of ‘American Idol‘ was all about bringing people together. Chris Daughtry came back to perform his new single, and Season Three winner Fantasia did the same with hers; the families of the four remaining hopefuls gathered onstage as the eliminations wore on. All well and good, but at the end of the night, it was time to cast off one person, and the identity of said eliminee was pretty unsurprising, when all was said and done.

‘Idol’ Top 4 Results: Little Drama During Movie Week

I’m going to be honest here. I just haven’t been that emotionally invested in this season of “American Idol.” Sure, I’ve had my favorites, but they all went home long ago. So I was beginning to think I could literally have someone blindfold me and spin me around, pin-the-donkey-style, and I’d just randomly point to any of the remaining top four and be happy with any of them winning this season. Well, that’s what I thought, anyway. But on Wednesday’s top four results show, when it came down to Crystal Bowersox, Lee DeWyze, and Michael Lynche (after Casey James was the first contestant to advance to the top three), I experienced those old familiar heart palpitations and stomach rumblings I always feel at this crucial point of the season. Could it be? Was it possible that a frontrunner like Lee or Crystal might not make to the finale after all?

In Memoriam: American Idol’s Michael Lynche

The American Idol audience is getting a hold on this “Vote out the right contestant, please” idea. Two weeks in a row, we’ve watched the correct troubadour saunter back to an awaiting womb — last week jiving fetus Aaron Kelly crawled back into the one he calls home, and and this week Michael Lynche was forced to acknowledge his wife and their newborn. Tough luck. After the jump, we reflect on Michael Lynche’s legacy with a fast funeral where Kara DioGuardi’s tears don’t seem as embarrassing.

Mike, Casey, Mike, Casey …

For a week based on “Songs of the Cinema, ” there wasn’t a whole lot of suspense on last night’s “Idol” results show. The judges have been setting us up for a Crystal-Lee showdown for a while now and I can’t imagine a world where that wouldn’t happen. Then again, before I couldn’t imagine a world without Siobhan in the Top 3 — or Alex Lambert or Lilly Scott — so what do I know?

Regardless of this season’s past “Idol Shockers, ” it didn’t take a genius to figure out whose numbers were up. Though the Magic 8 Ball told me to “ask again later, ” everything from the blogs to the Farmers’ Almanac said that it was either Mike or Casey’s time to go.

AI9 Top 4 Results: And the Razzie goes to…

37 million votes were cast (the most of the season)…Fantasia is here…so is Daughtry and Bon Jovi. Oh, and your American Idol Top 4 will become 3. Will the results after last night’s lukewarm Songs of the Cinema festivities be any surprise? Mustering up enthusiasm for this show has become as difficult as Lee DeWyze singing do-rei-me-fa-sol-la-ti-do on key. What? No movie song medley to warm our hearts? Not happening, because tonight’s show kicks off with the Moppet of Beelzebub Justin Bieber.

“American Idol” recap: So long, Big Mike!

Wednesday night’s “American Idol Elimination Show” reduced the contestant field from a dismal four to a dismal three. The suspense was (not) palpable.

For all those naysayers who criticized those of us who, despite reason, logic or sanity, have continued to watch this disaster of a season, they should know that we are not alone. 37 million votes were cast Tuesday night, the highest number of votes cast this season in one night. Millions of people can’t be that stupid, can they? Never mind. It was a rhetorical question.

American Idol Recap: Daughtry Shows That Fourth Place Ain’t So Bad

Last night American Idol cut one more contestant and we found out who (out of Crystal, Lee, Mike, and Casey) earned next week’s enviable top three slots. Why is top three so much better than top four? Obviously, it’s because the third-place finalist can at least say they earned “bronze, ” whereas fourth place has no alloy popularly associated with it. And you don’t want to tell your kids that back in the day you took home the aluminum at American Idol.

Before getting to the eliminations results, third-season champ Fantasia Barrino returned to the Idol stage to perform her new single “Bittersweet.” She’s usually great, but you could tell something was off from the moment you saw her hair: It was so locked into place it resembled one of those plastic hairpieces you slap on Lego people.
