Here’s your post American Idol 12 Baton Rouge audition roundup! Once again, the winner of the blog poll is at odds with the number of viewers who watched the videos.

The winner of our blog poll is Paul Jolley with 32% of the vote.

Soulful singer, Burnell Taylor. is right behind him with 27 %.

But as far as number of hits for the videos I posted? My partner in crime, @Idolxfactor1 reports the sweet Charlie Askew was way ahead with 160K views as of this morning.

Megan Miller, the gal with the broken leg, is second with 28K and the adorable Maddie Assel was 3rd with 23k. The rest were all bunched together in the upper teens.

The American Idol judges poll held no surprises whatsoever. The event tempered and astute (NOT TO MENTION HOT), Keith Urban is far ahead with 43% of the vote.  Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey are running neck and neck with 27.18 and 27.51 of the votes, respectively. IT’S THE BARBZ VS THE LAMBS!  And poor Randy Jackson. Nobody likes him. He only garnered a paltry 2%.  I bet half of those are pity votes!

Paul made me squeal like a One Direction obsessed tween.  Sometimes a certain voice just GETS you. I heart him!

  • fuzzywuzzy

    Oh oh! lol

  • tucker davis

Listened to Paul do some other songs…he seems to have a good bit of experience with duets which should help him if he makes it to the live shows. But imo he’s no Charles Kelley. I didn’t see him play a guitar in any of the videos I saw…so he won’t make it to the finals. lol

Charlie’s adorbs.  He seemed pretty comfortable with the judges despite the self-professed social awkwardness.

And I liked what Mariah said about him.  When she’s not making it all about herself (“I can relate to your [fill in the emotion or characteristic here] because I went through that too”), she says some pretty astute things (“your presence in this competition has the possibility of really shaking things up”).  If she’d calm down a little, she could be the Yoda of the judges table.

I hope they can clear some Weezer or fun. songs for Charlie.  It would be cool if he sung “Teenage Dirtbag”

Haha! Randy continues to be useless.

That’s funny, I was thinking Charlie reminded me of Clay, with his skinny awkwardness and seemingly red hair.  Charlie seems more in touch with his musical self though.  Charlie was my favorite, I want to see him play his guitar.  Paul Jolley was good, but he sang country, so I don’t quite get the Clay/Josh Groban comparison.

There’s a little Clay in there.  Only in the sense he’s a skinny, geeky red-head from the South.  He’s got FAR greater make over potential than Clay ever did.  Plus, he seems to have WAAAY better taste in music than Clay ever did (or does now).  Clay’s taste was always for the grandma set.

But also like Clay, I think he’s got a stronger sense of self than he’s let on so far.

Charlie is the only interesting contestant so far, IMO.

  • Miz

I liked Megan Miller the most from last night. Great voice and personality.

  • IdolyEverAfter

I agree with your first paragraph, I think Charlie has much better taste than Clay (LOL, although that isn’t saying much).  I don’t see the Durbin social awkwardness, because Durbin’s was much more specific (I really liked James Durbin, fwiw, he’s awesome), I just see Charlie as a socially awkward penguin who will grow into himself.  Can’t wait to see what he can do with some WGWG singer-songwriter stuff, just to drive the whole Idol machine crazy!

  • CB40

You can conceivably have Charlie and Burnell both in the Top 24, and the singing Fireman is a lock for the Top 10.

As for Paul, he’s no different than an Andy Grammer type of singer to me.

I agree.  I don’t think Charlie’s awkwardness will be a lifelong thing.  He’ll grow out of it eventually. Music is his way of finding himself and his confidence.  Pretty soon that will transfer over to the rest of his life.

Charlie’s my choice for the night.  He and Kez Ban are the only two to intrigue me thus far.  Hope they both make it onto the show.  Too much same/old, same/old otherwise.

  • fuzzywuzzy

“We saw what Arkansas did for Kris Allen, I could see them rallying around another home boy if he makes the live voting rounds.”

Sssh! Kerry Kolsch may get an idea to write another book. lol

  • SullyD

I love Charlie too. Now that’s a tween I could get behind.

  • forwarddad

I must be in the Minority. I didn’t like Paul Jolley at all. Just another WG who sings pretty.

  • SullyD

What? I didn’t say anything about Paul, I was talking about Charlie Askew. Not a fan of Paul either.

  • tibitibis

Charlie and Burnell are the ones i found interesting, in that order , so i hope, specially for Charlie, the show will be ale to clear good  songs for him and will not ruin his chances in the process.

  • jumpstart4u

Personally, I’m still having trouble focusing on the contestants.  The pretty judge (KU) keeps distracting me!

There is so much talent this season.  The judges may have difficult choices to make, but imagine the great singing we’re going to hear!  WOW!
