Last night’s snooze-inducing Aspen auditions produced NO Top 24 contestants. And of the rest of the cites left to air, only Houston and (5) and Portland (1) produced semi-finalists.  Pittsburgh had the highest number – Nine Top 24 contestants! (Aw. I’m so proud of my hometown).

Larc posted  a breakdown from TIP and Idol Forums.  Pulling it from comments:

VIA TIP

Charleston, South Carolina/Savannah, Georgia (7)
Brielle Von Hugel
Chelsea Sorrell
Colton Dixon
Elise Testone
Jeremy Rosado
Phillip Phillips, Jr.
Shannon Magrane

Denver, Colorado/Aspen, Colorado (0)

East Rutherford, New Jersey (0)

Houston, Texas/Galveston, Texas (5)
Baylie Brown
Hollie Cavanagh
Jen Hirsh
Joshua Ledet
Skylar Laine

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (9)
Aaron Marcellus Sanders
Adam Brock
Chase Likens
Creighton Fraker
Dante/Heejun Han
Eben Christian Franckewitz
Erika Van Pelt
Hallie Day
Reed Grimm

Portland, Oregon (1)
Haley Johnsen

Saint Louis, Missouri (0)

San Diego, California (2)
DeAndre Brackensick
Jessica Sanchez

There were no audition cities in AI10 with nobody in the Top 24. Austin, TX, had only one and that was Casey Abrams. But each of the other cities had at least three.

Three audition cities produced no semifinalists? Fail. How hard is it to find at least 1 semifinalist in each city?

They should combine at least two of this cities that have no one in the Top 24 in one episode only, and complete the remaining auditions episodes with ´´the best of the rest“.

Yep, last night’s episode was for the most part a bore for sure.   It’s interesting to see the top 24 broken down by audition city.  It is interesting to not see anyone advance to the 24 from either Denver/Aspen auditions or St. Louis.

Yay mj!  I would be proud too.  :)

I would be more excited about the # of finalist coming out of the Pittsburgh auditions (growing up nearby and going to school there) if someone actually came from that area.

The only one I remember from the entire Pgh audition that was even close was that farm girl…and she was from Ohio. I can’t even remember her name to know if she made it as a finalist.

ETA: Aaron Sanders is from Teaneck, NJ and it would’ve been easier for him to go to East Rutherford. I’ve noticed quite a few contestants that auditioned in locations farther from where they are from. Curious.

It’s not Creighton; it’s Colton.  Should take a while to get used to that, I guess.

  • hcpoirot

Nigel should make more Hollywood round episodes and less boring untalented audition episodes like tonight Aspen city. Bad choice. wasting my 45 minutes.

    Wow, it’s so lopsided.

I have to admit I’m a bit disappointed that only one person made it from the Portland auditions (that’s my hometown).

So Colton’s sister didn’t make top 24 ???that whole thing is really rotten….he isn’t that great……hope he gets voted off real soon, maybe he’ll be able to have a relationship w/his sister !!! that’s more important in the long run..

Very surprised no one made it from the NJ auditions. All that talent in neighboring NYC? Are people with real talent no longer bothering with Idol because the past few winners haven’t had much mainstream success?

  • Anonymous

Unless she’s packing something extra in her slacks, she didn’t lose a spot to him, so it’d be pretty petty on her part if she held it against him.  In Hollywood, she was mainly in competition with the other girls to get into the semi’s.

Interesting data.  I’d be curious as to how old each is.

  • http://twitter.com/Sassycatz Sassycatz

But isn’t this data kind of meaningless since those who audition don’t necessarily hail from the place at which they audition. Some even follow the Idol circus from one city to the next, hoping they’ll get a “yes.” I remember, in Season 7, Brooke White and Kristy Lee Cook both auditioned in Philadelphia and they were from Arizona and Oregon, respectively.

“But isn’t this data kind of meaningless since those who audition don’t necessarily hail from the place at which they audition.”

Exactly, Sassycatz. My fav isn’t actually from Omaha, either. *snerk*

So, Not just “kind of” meaningless – it doesn’t mean anything at all about the audition city…or where people with talent (or without) are local to. Now, if someone wants to make a spreadsheet to see where the auditioners are really from – and then break it down to the Top 24, or the Top 10/11/12, that at least would be real data – but I have no idea what it would prove, since the producers are still chosing for types in all those preliminary auditions…not city of origin.

Pretty poor regional representation. Wonder if it’s really lack of talent that showed up or if it was the producers and judges having off days picking.

Not surprised at CO. What we saw was quite underwhelming.

I see this as a good sign. In every type of television contests, the aim is to have contestants that are geologically varying to promote the home town/home state/certain part of the country -pride and this way promote viewer loyalty. Only that we know that when it’s a talent contest, and when there are only 24 slots, choosing the contestants with their geographical origins factored in would only produce a weaker talent pool.

That the number of sexes must be even is already a hindrance, that they decided to overlook the unwritten rule of forwarding at lest one contestant from every city through Hollywood is great.

Hm. If I would’ve known this I prbly would’ve skipped the Aspen episode. Major snoozefest. I’ll definitely skipped the NJ episode. I watch Portland only because I love “Portlandia”. lol

Side-note: San Diego ep wasn’t that great either. I wonder why that didn’t show Deandre or Jessica’s auditions?

IKR? Even Puerto Rico in S8, which was allegedly the biggest FAIL in Idol history, produced two (Kendall & Jorge).

  • http://twitter.com/ScottyHaleyFan Maria Romeo

Well tonight looks like a good epidsode.  All the others to come arn’t even worth watching with no one in the top 24 :/

  • garlandk77

At this point, there are six in the top 24 who did not appear in the audition shows.

Will there be a “best of the rest” audition show this year to fix this? Didn’t Idol do this before?

    Charleston/Savannah
    ___Brielle Von Hugel
    ___Chelsea Sorrell
    ___Jeremy Rosado

    Pittsburgh
    ___Adam Brock

    San Diego
    ___DeAndre Brackensick
    ___Jessica Sanchez

Of course, your idea is excellent; however, not everyone follows forums and such like we do!  I hope there is a “best of the rest”.  Those that I am interested in have not been featured yet, although they were seen for 1 second.

  • http://twitter.com/KariannHart Kariann Hart

Cathy, do we really know that it wasn’t a set up.  Do we know that Idol did not ask his sister to look upset or resentful?  Colton seems to already have a solid fan base.

  • http://twitter.com/KariannHart Kariann Hart

That’s exactly what I was thinking.  Those are two contestants I am really interested in.  Idol better show the audtions of everyone of the TOP 24.  I would like to know the songs they chose!
