In this new interview with Adam Lambert from Lyndsey Parker of Yahoo music, Adam talks about how he loves to push people’s buttons, the gay thing, and how happy he was to make it far enough in the competition to perform in the Nokia theater.

As far as the upcoming tour, he describes some of his hot outfits and is excited to sing cool songs like “Starlight” by Muse.

Adam is writing a lot on his new album and insists that 19 is giving him the freedom to be himself. He wants the record to be “lyrically something I can relate to…that makes a statement but doesn’t preach.” He says it’s a balancing act between “the rock sound and the electro-pop sound.”

“As long as there’s hard guitars on top of an electro-beat, I think it’s blending two styles in a very cool way,” says Adam.

One of the best interviews with Adam. Both Lyndsey and Adam rock!Intelligent questions and, as usual, a very articulate and fun Adam.
    Go Adam!!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/nokking nokking

this is probably my most favorite interview of Adam. A lot of good questions, not repeated ones like the Comcast Live Chat. A lot of music discussion too, I like. :biggrin_wp:

Thank you MJ for putting this up.

  • linsav

This is a great interview by both Lyndsey and Adam. It’s refreshing to have great, intelligent questions for Adam to answer in his always entertainingly witty was.

And I just want to add that I loved seeing the shirt unsnapped so much cause it made up for it being plaid!

  • lambkin

Wow. You know, I’m not really one to usually jump on the hyperbole bandwagon when it comes to post-idol success. Realistically, things just don’t always pan out like they could and most idols don’t end up being as big as their talent should dictate. That being said, Adam is really giving me hope. I’m starting to feel like a perfect storm is brewing that will allow him to have success at least at the level of say, Daughtry if not Kelly or Carrie (or dare we dream, even bigger?).

He’s so smart, level headed, articulate, and strategic about his career having been on the sidelines of “the biz” for so many years. That will bode incredibly well for him, I think. Add to the mix a voice that is unbelievably versatile, a unique style, a penchant for making people talk, and the buzz already surrounding him and now we’re really talking. Finally, consider the current music scene with acts like Mika, Katy Perry, and Lady Gaga dominating with their quirky uniqueness and futuristic-y sounds, the fact that Adam can also potentially spread into film/TV/broadway, and I’m really beginning to be hopeful that he is one idol who can actually make it. Oh, and hotdamn-gorgeousness is a contributing factor too of course (how could I forget that?!).

I’m a superfan, and I would rather be realistic and pleasantly surprised than ambitious and let down, but darnit if the boy isn’t really really starting to ramp my hopes up.

  • GeminiDolly

I can hear this man talk all day and night. Great stuff.

  • linsav

lambkin I hear you. Every time Adam says “Things happen when they are supposed to”, etc., I really believe that this is his time. He is so special, I don’t know how else to say it without gushing.

Loved, loved the interview. I’m guessing the mild dig at Danny (as the other frontrunner) confirms he’s the one that he had issues with. Really happy that Kris and Adam were the last two standing.

However, he looks as if he’s wearing Kris’ shirt. It’s obviously a few sizes too small and since he’s sitting, the man boobs are in full force!

  • HotHotHot

Adam really is very smart about the way he is handling all the media and fuss going on around him. I’m really impressed and can’t wait to buy his LEGITIMATE music. Boycott the Hi-Fi crap!

  • GeminiDolly

Im a dork, but I really enjoyed when he started busting out RED ONE! ha

However, he looks as if heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s wearing Krisà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ shirt. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s obviously a few sizes too small and since heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s sitting, the man boobs are in full force!

I never thought I would be attracted to a “plaid” shirt but just now changed my mind, lol. Strange tho, although he wears it extremely well, it just doesn’t fit his Glambert image. Kudos to Adam for doing and wearing whatever-the-hell he wants! :blink_tb:

BTW: I will not be buying “On With the Show” or “Want” unless it is officially endorsed by Adam, which seems highly unlikely!!!

  • http://www.last.fm/user/RemusL/ RemusL

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m guessing the mild dig at Danny (as the other frontrunner) confirms heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s the one that he had issues with.

I think that conclusion is a stretch. There was no dig. Danny and Adam were the two early frontrunners. Adam was simply stating what most viewers already knew anyway.

  • lizardino

Yippee! You posted it! I’ve actually watched it twice already — LOL. Such a fangirl.

I really enjoyed this interview, especially because Lyndsey Parker asked great questions that haven’t all been asked before. This is an interview by an industry professional to another professional — how refreshing!

I also liked that it wasn’t really edited down. It is nice to actually see Adam’s thought process at work, and gives new insight into him and the way he thinks. Also, her squeal at the end was a hoot.

  • ruskimom

Don’t worry about what you’re hearing. Take heart in what you’re not hearing. There’s a whole lot of people in the industry that want Adam to succeed. He’s walking a tightrope to the A-list, and doing a damn good job at it…But he has to make the walk himself…they can’t help him…The tour, and this demo work, is nothing to them. He’s already been told to keep his eyes on the prize…and their silence is the focus he needs to make it.

LOL! I busted out with him and my daughter looked at me with surprise then she said “How did you know? I thought she was singing Red Wine, too.”

  • attorney.glambert

This is an excellent interview with a lot of new material. I too enjoyed the fact Lyndsey did not seem to over edit it. Thanks for posting MJ!

  • brin

Great interview from Lyndsey, a lot of talk about the music, he sounds so excited to be working with RedOne, that seems like a great collaboration that I hope leads to some fantastic tracks and can’t wait to hear what other collaborators he will be doing songs with. I love his interviews, so witty, charming and articulate.

The jacket, with the spikes and detachable tails….too funny, I bet it will be smashing.

Do we know his whole tour set list yet? I know we have heard Starlight, Bowie Medley, Mad World….I haven’t seen the other 1/2 confirmed yet unless the Slow Ride duet counts as one of them.

  • Rusalka

It’s been a strange, intense week for Adam fans. All that drama made me appreciate this interview even more; a welcome break from popcorn munching/chewing my fingernails.

The more I see of Adam-behind-the-scenes, the more I realize that I just plain LIKE him. There’s a lot to admire beyond his obvious confidence and gift of self expression.

He’s been amazingly adaptable to pressure *ahem Susan Boyle ahem* and he seems perfectly at home in the pressure-cooker atmosphere. Yet he comes across as completely human–and BLESS him for not wanting to give a boring PC interview!

  • SparklesATL

“I beat the other front runner”

    BOOM! POW! Take that Gokey!

Hey Gokey’s family, say what you will about Adam, but just remember he beat “the other front funner” AKA Gokey.

  • born2bevil

:wub_tb: :wub_tb: Adam looks good! He must have lost some weight :wub_tb:

  • Anastasia72071

Another fantastic interview. I’ve never really paid attention to singers/actors before this, so I’m not a good judge of how well the average celebrity comes across in interviews, but Adam strikes me as one of the most straightforward, open and honest people *ever* – and he does it without seeming overbearing, self-centred, dull and/or totally obnoxious (*cough*Gene Simmons*cough*).

I also love the plaid shirt – a complete departure from the “flash” part of his image; it sort of tones down his natural OTT-ness and makes him less of the Glittery Alien from Planet Fierce and more the Guy Next Door, more approachable (and by that I mean, if you saw him wearing a plaid shirt looking all casual, you might not be intimidated to go talk to him, but if you saw him all decked out in his leather and sparkles, you’d probably just stand there in awe with your jaw on the floor [I know I would]. LOL). He’s got at least one other shirt of that sort, which he wore during a couple of his AI Confessionals (black and royal blue check – almost looked flannel).

…Can’t wait to see the new leather coat!!

It’s good to watch Adam so calm and composed in the middle of the press turmoil about him.
And yessssssssss to non PC interviews. I love that he comes across down to earth and articulate whilst able to make the occasional controversial statement!

  • honowoowoo

zombini: exactly! Something about this young man … how can you NOT like him?? mjs, more Adam … never enough!!

By the way, for all Oahu Adam fans … Walmart (Keamoku) just got in the Rolling Stone issue today!! Finally!!!

  • lizardino

After watching parts of the interview again, I have to say that the idea of AI auditions at Burning Man is something I would pay good money to see, although I agree with Adam that you would have to show it on Public Access or pay cable (because it would be at least R rated.) If you’re not familiar with the counter-cultural event that is Burning Man, go to their website or look them up. It will be entertaining, I promise you.

Maybe I would pay good money just to see Paula, Simon and Randy at Burning Man…hee. Somehow, I think Kara would fit in pretty well. And OMG, Ryan–just the thought completely cracks me up!

That’s Adam’s shirt. He wore it early on in the AI run. You can see it in the “who are they” vid clip preceding “Black Or White”. you can also see him wearing it in a clip of “I will Remember You” Ford commercial.

A beautiful interview with a beautiful guy. I really have to find away to break this Adam addiction. It’s just not normal!!

  • http://tenuousatbest.blogspot.com imyourmom

I think he certainly did Hazelhel, but I don’t think he meant to be disrespectful, lol

Here’s Lindsey’s written piece to accompany the vid of the interview with Adam. She’s totally smitten with him, and is not afraid to exclaim it to the world: http://new.music.yahoo.com/blogs/realityrocks/243532/adam-lambert-the-reality-rocks-interview/

  • Ellie2

I think we saw the tour jacket in the 20/20 interview, didn’t we? I know when he was talking to the designer/stylist guy who was sort of flirting with him he was wearing a leather jacket with blue on it and it had tails. Anyone else remember that? Damn…just imagine if I used my observational powers for something that mattered instead of on my Adam obsession. Oh well…

  • wiccagirl2009

Wow!! Great interview. He is really intelligent and witty. He looks good too. Excited with the tour. :-)

  • Lexus

I love this interview. The way he conducts himself during interviews, how articulate he is….you’d really think he’s a seasoned veteran at all this stuff. So media savvy.

I love how he can always somehow so diplomatically snub his nose at those who have issue with him being ‘different’. I think he’s a force to be reckoned with – not a pushover whatsoever. This is definitely his time.

I still think it’s Sarver he has issues with. It was never so apparent to me as during the Larry King Live interview. COLD.

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m starting to feel like a perfect storm is brewing that will allow him to have success at least at the level of say, Daughtry if not Kelly or Carrie (or dare we dream, even bigger?).

I love how you phrased this Lambkin. I’ve long felt this way too. I suspect his success will surpass them all.

  • merrymary

I wish he would do “I kissed a girl” on tour…., that would be fun–maybe as an encore:)

  • TWI

That’s a very enjoyable interview – thanks for posting mj, I’d probably have missed it otherwise.

Adam seems so grounded. I hope that he’ll always remain so – once the BIG opportunities come rolling in – as they certainly will, during the next few years.
I’d bet on him staying sane and sensible in the midst of it all. Interesting times coming up!

  • Tess

It’s so odd that an OTT performer who gets my blood rushing just by walking out on a stage can calm me down when he turns on the charm and just talks (to me). I think I’ve spent more time going back over his “confessionals” and his other interviews than his actual singing (but then I play my self made CD in the car all the time).

Adam just seems so savvy and he just gets it. He has all the tools (Kris and Allison are blessed in the same way): likeability and common sense and street sense and innate intelligence and personal warmth and an interest in other people and the world around him. I just feel real lucky that I have found someone who (despite the occasional “wart”) keeps me interested, and hungry for more. I don’t think that Adam will ever bore me.

  • elw

Great interview, I love that it’s unedited…almost like we’re sitting in the room with Lyndsey and Adam. I also love that it was 14 minutes long! Those 3 and 4 minute interviews aren’t enough! Adam is the kind of guy you can just imagine being friends with, he’s so down to earth and funny!

  • star

I always thought Lady Gaga was singing “red wine” too, heh.

Fantastic interview! :wub_tb: LOL @ the suggestion of holding AI auditions at Burning Man.

  • mahrikka

Great interview! I read Lindseyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s accompanying article with a huge smile. I get so upset with revelations such as yesterday’s pre-Idol release album, but when I hear Adam in an interview, I realize he’s going to handle the bumps well and will have plenty of industry backing.

Lizardino, the vision of Ryan at Burning Man cracks me up too. LOL!

  • Truthiness

Did he just called Carrie Underwood the country bumpkin?

He was speaking about the show isn’t just about musical talent, that it’s also about the stories, like Carrie Underwood’s, where ‘a country bumpkin, who was sheltered and naive,’ yadda. Which is true that the show exaggerated her story about how very, very sheltered farm girl Carrie was, when in fact yes, while a genuine country girl, she wasn’t THAT sheltered. And we all know the show likes to find a story ‘hook,’ if you will, and than use that to label and sell people.

I will be a somewhat voice of dissent and say I liked, but didn’t love this interview from the interviewer side, I agree that Adam came across very well. But that’s because I felt that a lot of these questions had been asked. And funny that someone representing Yahoo, a search engine, was acting so suprised/shocked about Starlight, because the internet savvy have known about it, from places like this blog, since last Friday’s 20/20 interview. Maybe the interviewer needs to learn how to use teh Google. hee.

  • clearone

M’thinks he borrowed one of Kris’s shirts for this interview! :biggrin_wp:

Great interview. Less focus on the sexuality and more on the music…..the way it should be!!!!

    !

  • suebrody

Great interview, and perfect timing considering the swirl around the leaked single and Hi-Fi’s statement…

Anyway, this was probably the most interesting interview I’ve read so far. Lindsey is such a fangirl, and yet asked well-informed questions instead of just being, the way I would have been :) I especially liked Lyndsey’s knowledge of Muse and their music (she was so happy he would be singing one of their songs!). It was fun to read, and it left me even more impressed with Adam and eager for the Tour and beyond.

Oh, and Adam looks hot in People Magazine. ;)

  • gingerly

Looks like Adam learned the art of buttoning his shirt from Simon only it’s squicky on Simon but not so much on Adam.

Looks like Adam learned the art of buttoning his shirt from Simon only ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s squicky on Simon but not so much on Adam.

TRUE!! BTW, love the word “squicky.” So many style things Adam does get a free freakin’ pass from me and this is yet another. Beginning of the season I was like, “Jewelry on guys? No.” With Adam? I’m totally fine with it. Copy that to cologne, snakeskin or platform boots, nail polish … all of them usually not my thing, but on Adam, I flove them!

Finally bought black nail polish yesterday (ramping up for concert) and did my hands and feet and I LOVE that too! Damn that glittery alien …

  • LisaE

Damnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦just imagine if I used my observational powers for something that mattered instead of on my Adam obsession.

    LOL! I’m with you.

My favorite part of the interview was when he was talking about the music. He’s over “vapid” lyrics. That intrigues me. Saying something without preaching. That’s all a fine line, but I’m interested to see what his point of view is going to be. I also appreciate that he keeps talking about “rock” and hard guitars. He can throw dance/electro in there as long as he keeps the rock and understands his strengths (hello voice!).

  • CCAdamFan

Apologies if this has been posted already…but I just came across the MOST amazing fan vid of Kradam to date. It beautifully illustrates their friendship. I miss seeing these boys on my tv every week.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xAtBKIuLRKg&feature=player_embedded

  • Natasha

This is a great interview now that I finally took the time to pay attention. I was caught up in the mess over this “single”.

It sounds like he’s excited about recording and has definite ideas about the direction he’s going in. It makes me more curious for his legitimate stuff. The tour jacket sounds cool and I have a feeling his set is going to be really something.

  • http://www.last.fm/user/RemusL/ RemusL

CCAdamFan, thanks for posting the link to that fantastic Kradam video montage. The video creator/editor must be a pro – it’s seriously that good.

  • Susan M.

CCAdamFan, I saw that in a previous thread, but thanks for posting again. It’s an EPIC Kradam video and makes me so happy that I tuned in and got caught up this season for the first time. I love those guys!!

  • Jayd

I had to watch this video twice. The first time, I was fixated on his chest. When it was done, it was like “Wah?” I didn’t hear half of what either one of them said. This is what it’s come to. :smile1_ee:

Thanks CCAdamFan, for the link. Great to get my Kradam fix for the week, er day.

  • CCAdamFan

Y’all are welcome! And don’t y’all just love the way it ends?

I LOVE the story of Kris and Adam’s friendship. As a Christian, I just love how Kris has disspelled the incorrect notion that all Christians are homophobe bigots. Of course they have their differences…but they found common ground and built a strong friendship.

We should all be so fortunate to have such friendships in our lives.

  • suebrody

*sigh* I could marry this man, except, no, I couldn’t. What is so great is that Lyndsey really *gets* him and we learn a lot about Adam as a result. When she she practically queals about Muse at the end, I can’t stop smiling. They can be BFF’s, and Michelle from Best Week Ever can join that trifecta. How much are we excited about his jacket for the tour with detachable tails? OH SO MUCH.

I don’t know if anyone has mentioned this, but Lyndsey has had to tweet at least three times that she DOES like Kris and that she ENJOYED interviewing him (even tho she wanted Adam to win, then Allison, and then Kris). It’s just her personal opinion, and I can’t imagine it will impact her interview with Kris that will be posted on Monday. I completely believe her, and I am looking forward to it.

“I beat the other front runner.” I could play that line OVER AND OVER AND OVER.

    KRADAM FTW
