Adam Lambert fans looking for new information on his upcoming album release found some in the latest issue of Rolling Stone.

The print edition mentions a song from the upcoming album–appropriately titled “Strut”–co-written by Idol’s Kara DioGuardi:

He also reunited with Idol judge, Kara DioGuardi to pen “Strut”, a Depeche Mode-meets-Queen self-empowerment anthem that highlights Lambert’s range. “I love that stuff that makes you feel sexy, puts you in a good mood,” he says. “The song is supposed to be a confidence booster. The message is ‘be yourself. Let it all hang out.’”

Sounds like it could be the perfect first single, doesn’t it? I’ll look at the glass as half full and assume the latest from Kara is a “Sober” (Pink) rather than a “No Boundaries”…

The yet-to-be-named album comes out November 24th.

Don’t think we can get a snippet of it until Kris LLWD is released.

Sober and Beautiful ( edited to say i meant Ain’t No Other Man) are the only songs out of what? A bazillion that she has written that were any good. And they are kind of on the sappy love ballad side. Pink can inject testosterone into anything, though.

I doubt that she all of a sudden pulled a Queen meets DM rock anthem out of her sad bastard songwriting ass.

The only things she has written for guys has been for the likes of Ryan Cabrerra and that song by Nickelback clones Theory Of A Deadman.

  • mgk

Sober and Beautiful are the only songs out of what? A bazillion that she has written that were any good. And they are kind of on the sappy love ballad side. Pink can inject testesterone into anything, though.

I agree and Sober is really only good because of Pink. I’m still freaking out a little about Adam and Kara writing a song together. Kara’s songs seem so bland, for the most part. Adam’s songs are interesting, but don’t always make sense.

You know how two unattractive people can have a really beautiful child? I’m pretty much hoping for the song equivalent of that.

  • https://twitter.com/draddee Sunn

I love Sober, but I’m still scarred from NoBO.

Kara better NOT feck this up.

A Depeche Mode / T Rex song. I still can’t imaging how that would sound. I lurve DM and enjoy TR, but together? I don’t have the musical imagination to workout whether that would be good or bad.

I love Dates and I love Lamb, but dates and lamb together (a Moroccan dish classic) leave me gagging. Yet Dates covered with beef bacon are strangely delicious. So, as far as the song goes, it could go either way.

This post reads like it could have been written by Scott. Ha

    ETA:

Queen not T Rex, ignore what I said above.

In the case of Queen/Depeche Mode I know exactly what it will sound like… Early Muse. Yay!!!

I just wish it wasn’t Kara, that woman couldn’t write a Depeche Mode song to save her life.

Where did I get the T Rex reference from? Was it Kevin Rudolph?

  • selena

When I first heard the name “strut”, I thought yes… this is going to be awesome. Then I heard Kara co-wrote and it immediately felt like…oh no…

So, once my excitement fell, I will still be on the alert for its release.

  • leome

I doubt that she all of a sudden pulled a Queen meets DM rock anthem out of her sad bastard songwriting ass.

I just don’t see how that will happen. But I remember last year around this time either RS or Blender (not sure now but I’m almost sure it was RS) had an article about Cook’s record, and they said Come Back To Me sounded like a U2 song. Now… imagine people’s surprise when we got to hear Come Back To Me. lol

I’m not familiar with T.Rex, but I don’t like Goldfrapp. I remember seeing them live years ago opening for Coldplay and just not into that. They had an hit song that was ok, but I don’t even remember it much.

  • alaadam

OMG! To see ADAM strut his stuff in a video to a sexy strutting song is just more than I can take this morning. The title itself is sexy! Oooo La La! Can’t wait to hear it and see him again :)

  • sr4mjc

Kara has much to prove after NoBo, I hope they worked their ass off for this song.

Strut – just like the walk down the staircase for Feeling Good, love it.

and he can wear the flaming headress!

Adam, I love you, don’t ever change.

  • suebrody

I don’t know how to survive till this single (or snippet) is released…seriously.

Adam gave the thumbs up to NoBo on Idol b/c he HAD to. (I’m sure he was thinking, Gah, this is the first time Randy thought I was pitchy, cause I was, and I’m so glad I can stop singing b/c I’m tired…) But you know, Kara has a pretty good track record and she is a HUGE Adam fan, so let’s hope they worked well together. One interesting thing, tho, is that he said in one interview (they are all jumbled up now; maybe the one with Lyndsey) that 2010′s track was more of a classic rock anthem, and that the others were more…not. Okay, I’m just confused at this point.

I am going to reserve judgment even more than with Kris’s snippet b/c we haven’t got one yet, heh. But I LOVE Depeche Mode, so I will simply cross my fingers and wait, wait, wait.

ETA: Thanks, sr4mjc. I thought I had seen every Adam clip, but apparently not. Gah. So much for getting work done yet again. ;)

  • glamatheart

Ah Kara, you have the power to instill fear in the hearts of so many :-)
And yes Sunn, I too am irrevocably scarred by NoBo. But I am an optimist by nature and I love the title ‘Strut’ for Adam, so I am holding onto the hope that they have somehow created magic and this will be incredible. Did I mention that I am an optimist…LOL

ETA: Yes, thank you, sr4mjc. That was great. I remember the first time I saw the CTF video. I watched it 500x in a row, I swear. Ah, good times, good times… Love the new (to me) stuff in the beginning.

  • beehiway

I like that this new song highlights Adam’s range and if this is his first single, it seems so appropriate for Adam that the message is ‘be yourself.’

I will think that the glass is more than half full. With Adam involved in the writing and then singing it… I’m pretty sure I am going to like it.

Can’t wait for the promo tours and to see him perform it over and over on the late night and early morning shows.

That was funny, really funny. I had a horrible visual of her doing exactly that. Not so funny.

I love the title Strut, but I am so worried about Kara’s abilities, thinking SonofNoBo, and it’s a leetle beet skeery!

  • sr4mjc

Can’t take credit, found it over on ONTD_AI. Just happy to share!

Seriously, this guy made to the finals on Idol. I love it!! VMAs in the future, this must happen!

Sober and Beautiful are the only songs out of what? A bazillion that she has written that were any good.

I’d add Kelly’s “Walk Away” and “I Do Not Hook Up” along with Christina’s “Ain’t No Other Man” to that list. Also, Jessie James “Wanted” is really good. Of course, it’s all subjective. I’m not a tween, so I’m not interested in the music she’s written for Miley or Hillary Duff. And I’m not into adult contemporary ballads, so I’ll pass on what she’s written for Celine Dion and Clay Aiken. And I’m not into country, so I’m not a good judge of what she’s written for Carrie Underwood or Rascal Flatts.

We’ll just have to see. It sounds like “Strut” is definitely the first single, though. I’m imagining a “Walk Away” vibe.

  • Q3

    sr4mjc

….and he can wear the flaming headress!

Adam, I love you, don’t ever change.

Thanks for posting that link! I haven’t watched that for a while and it is so amazing to see that Adam really hasn’t changed!

Regarding the song, “Strut”, I love the description of “Depeche Mode-meets-Queen self-empowerment anthem”. Forget the song, I can’t wait for the music video!

And, even though Kara hasn’t written much for male vocalists, she has written a few great songs for vocalists with Adam’s vocal range. So, I will keep an open mind.

  • mgk

mgk- I didn’t understand the part where you said Adam’s songs don’t make sense? Do you mean his song choices on the show?

I just meant his pre-Idol songs were interesting and had good beats, but the lyrics were a little odd. “Bendy Bendy, Bangy Bangy” comes to mind, as well as “Oh My Ra”.

Either way, here’s hoping for that beautiful baby

Definitely! It sounds like “Strut” won’t have Kara’s usual mellow vibe, so I’m hopeful.

  • Studio57

    I love the title Strut

Every time I hear it, I think of the song by Bob Seger.

“I just meant his pre-Idol songs were interesting and had good beats, but the lyrics were a little odd. ‘Bendy Bendy, Bangy Bangy’ comes to mind, as well as ‘Oh My Ra’ . ”

Oh, lol- I wasn’t a big fan of that either. But Crawl Thru Fire gives me hope!

  • beehiway

Thank you for the video sr4mjc! Wow, I think I love him more if that is possible. How does he do that whole playful little kid attitude then pull off those very sexy hot song sets?

  • Q3

I doubt that she all of a sudden pulled a Queen meets DM rock anthem out of her sad bastard songwriting ass.

She co-wrote the song with Adam. IF Adam came up with the musical concept, tempo, etc. and Kara the lyrics, and he had a great producer (RedOne???) then this could be a hot song. Just dreaming, but OK until we have to face reality, I’ll stay on the positive side. I got a chance of being right!

Also, I can’t imagine that Adam would mention it if it was drek — like NoBo.

  • windmills

“And I’m not into country, so I’m not a good judge of what she’s written for Carrie Underwood or Rascal Flatts. ”

Here’s the song she wrote for Rascal Flatts on their album, they’ve written with her again since then.

    It’s called ‘Once’

She cowrote a couple songs with Carrie Underwood and others that’ll be on Carrie’s album. One’s apparently a catchy uptempo called Undo It and the other’s a ballad called Mama’s Song. Carrie sang them live last Saturday for a taping but there’ve been no leaks, just a couple reports from fans about the songs.

  • https://twitter.com/draddee Sunn

    A flaming headress is subtle

    You needed exclamation points there.

When he said “it’ll be subtle” on the vid I LMAO’d. And I don’t mean laughed my ass off, I mean actually yelled LMAO! (too much blogging)

I believe she also wrote Cobra Starships “Good Girls Gone Bad” (which is a HUGE hit right now). Let’s not judge Kara only on “No Boundaries”

As for “Strut” is concerned. I’m imagining a glam rock version of “Bootylicious” myself.

  • beehiway

Okay (holding up hands, preparing for cyber tomatoes)

I agree No Boundaries on finals week was not Adam at his best. He even mentioned after the finale that he wished he could have had more time to prepare for that song. But being the coronation song I don’t think he could have changed much. Just practiced the delivery more.

But the sudio version is not that bad IMO.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vokM1z8on5g

He sings it with a lot of heart and the vocals are great. Yea some of the lyrics are cheesy but not all of the lines. I actually like this one:
“What if today is as good as it gets, don’t know where the future’s headed, (but) nothing’s going to bring me down”

Call me the sappy one or whatever, or just biased. I listen to all of the studio versions regularly.

  • joyceanna

hmmm “Strut” as long as Adams’s wears those lycra pants, I’m all good!

Just thinking..Will his 1st single be released 1st or the theme song for 2012? Time frame? In October?

  • Studio57

I’ll stay on the positive side. I got a chance of being right!

Sorry, didn’t mean to sound like a Debby Downer, lol. I am kind of the opposite in that I like to keep my expectations extremely low in order to be pleasantly suprised :)

Snuffles- I’ll give you Ain’t No Other Man, that was a good one. I like Kelly’s songs but it’s the same way I feel about Cobra Starship’s. I used the word “bubblegum” yesterday and got attacked for it, but I meant it in the way that they are quick hits that lose their flavor pretty quickly. Sorry to any Kelly fans, but those are the very definitions of “pop music” for me. I’d like his first hit to be something substantial.

  • http://www.irish-wolfhounds.com Buderschnookie

    I’m not familiar with T.Rex

    Oh honey- go get familiar!
One of the very first Glam originals Marc Bolan and T Rex were a funky rock/boogie/folk/dance band that was simply fun. Marc was sexually androgynous in a hippie sort of way, but added a bit of glitter to his face and just exploded.

Yet another of the “died way too soon” rock stars.
I have a blessedly complete hoard of bootleg performances and when he was on he was astounding!

    Check this.
    And this.
    And this.
    And this.

  • fearbear

Ugh I really hope Kara is nowhere near Adam’s first single.I have no faith in that woman’s skills AT ALL. He’s worked with RedOne, Sam Sparro and Max Martin and he will release a Kara Diogagi penned song as his first single? PLEASE NO.

  • https://twitter.com/draddee Sunn

We’ll just have to see. It sounds like ‘Strut’ is definitely the first single, though. I’m imagining a ‘Walk Away’ vibe.

If it’s anything like Walk Away, I think I might F*@*!$# BURST in frustration.
That song is pure DRECK. The thought of it is frelling depressing.

I don’t know what to expect, I just know I don’t want anything like that song.

    ETA:

Besides, Walk Away is not Depeche Mode meets Queen, that is fo sure. Which makes me feel a little more secure in the notion that it wont be anything like it.

Here is a full list of Kara’s work

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kara_DioGuardi_songwriting_and_production_discography

She’s written a lot of good stuff. Looks like she produced “Good Girls Gone Bad”.

  • Studio57

Chipmunk! LMAO! Yep, this is where they all went!

Buderschnookie- I forgot all about the song “20th Century Boy”! Now THAT is what i am hoping for from Adam. That song is so timeless! I totally get what Adam WANTS to do, just like I got what he was trying to do with BTBW, he just needs that right combination of people with him that know it too.

  • jaimej40

I’ll save my judgement on Kara’s songwriting skills as far as this song goes, but how about Adam Lambert working with Martin Gore? That would be pretty cool…

  • sr4mjc

20th Century Boy is a fantastic song. Now we need a 21st century interpretation for Adam.

Yep, I’m getting what Adam wants, I just hope there are writers that can help.

  • Mitla96

    Kara Dioguardi…..(((shudder!)))

I keep reading that Kara is this great songwriter and talent, but she comes off as so dumb in her written comments and in person. I’ll keep my trust in Adam’s decisions now that stuff (I hope!) can’t be foisted on him.

Speaking of trusting in Adam’s decisions…
sr4mjc -thanks for the clip! It satisfied my horrible Adam withdrawal symptoms, for this day at least!

  • lola

I cannot understand why some Adam fans always tend to put a negative vibe on his album or first single. We haven’t heard anything yet and all are still speculations. We don’t even understand what Adam means when he speaks of what his album will be like. I agree we just want to lower our expectations but why can’t we be like Kris fans….just be happy that he is coming out with an album. On Kara, I hope she will redeem herself (it’s just one song that she was criticized and I don’t think it was that bad. It’s more of Kris not having that range to carry NoBo). But I’m still counting more on Adam’s voice than the music that’s why I’m going to buy his albumS irregardless.

LOL!! Well, I LIKE “Walk Away.” It’s one of the few songs from Breakaway I could tolerate. I don’t mean it’s going to be exactly like it, but I’m thinking the sassy attitude, the staccato beat, the “up yours” vibe. Eh. We’ll see.

But, honestly, guys, if you’re waiting for Adam’s first single to change the face of pop music, you’re going to be sorely disappointed. My hope is that he and Kris have nice, tidy little hits on this first go around.

  • Studio57

lola- I think all Adam fans are happy that he is coming out with an album. Guessing what his album is going to be like is fun, but to say that it is going to be the end all be all of albums without hearing it first is just blind devotion. Especially with Kara anywhere near the vicinity.

  • 4evrmomof4

Hi everyone!! Long time lurker, never posted-did do twittering from Bridgeport concert, though.

Did use the TREX mention to get me to post for the 1st time!

When I was 13, TREX was my 1st concert experience!! I FOREVER remembered the boots and white trenchcoat he wore in that concert. My dad was with me and said those boots gave him nightmares! LOVED Marc Bolan!

My 1st look at Adam Lambert came when I learned he was in top 50 from Mj’s, of course. It was Crawl Thru Fire. I nearly fainted!! BTW, I was the one in the 1st Dish of Salt interview who asked Adam if he would ever perform Crawl Thru Fire live.

There were Mark Bolan’s platform glitter boots and white trenchcoat on this gorgeous man with the killer voice!

I was so freakin’ hooked right there.

    ‘BangaGong” by TREX was awesome!

Although never posted before, all you guys feel like family!

  • Studio57

4evermom- Welcome! I delurked this year too, and after seeing, what? Around 700 people on here for that last concert the other night I am willing to bet more lurkers are itching to come out, lol.

Come out, come out, wherever you are! This is where the fun begins, for me, for you. The album, the movie song. No more covers, we finally get to see what he’s got. I’m excited. Sure I think Kara sucks but it’s just one song out of 24 he has to pick from.

  • https://twitter.com/draddee Sunn

But, honestly, guys, if you’re waiting for Adam’s first single to change the face of pop music, you’re going to be sorely disappointed.

No one said that. Personally I just want decent music that will sell. Walk Away may have sold, but it doesn’t fall under my definition of decent music.

I want songs, regardless of genre, that have musical quality. Of Kara’s songs Sober is one, Beautiful is by another writer all together, I don’t think that’s too much to ask for.
Depeche Mode/Queen does seem like a pipe dream though, given that this is an AI album, and the song is written by fearsome Dioguardi.

Until the song comes out, I’ll just return to my mantra: Please god, let it be a Black Swan.

  • lola

I understand Studio 57. I don’t expect his first album or single to be spectacular. I just want a decent album that will continually amaze me with his range of voice and I just hope his songwriters really made use of Adam’s only instrument.

  • alison8701

  • suebrody

    Welcome, 4evrmomof4!!!

I think Adam’s first song will be less bombastic than Crawl Thru Fire, hee hee. Since (cause I got it wrong the 1st time, sorry), the 2010 song will be a ballad, this one will be more uptempo (duh, name Strut, heh). Not sure if that means it will sound like I Do Not Hook Up (but I doubt it; speaking of bubblegum…) or more dance/funk. That is what I am hoping for, tho that is not Depeche Mode (unless it’s a remix).

I’m just excited, and of course we don’t know if that’s the first song that will be released, right? He might just have mentioned it b/c ppl know who Kara is, for good or bad. ;)

  • 4evrmomof4

We really have to have faith that Adam stays true to himself, as he has so far.

Com’on, whether we like Kara’s writing skills or not, it is Adam’s voice after all, and just imagine the music video possibilities with Adam ‘Strutting” unfiltered on MTV!!

BTW, know I have really lost me mind, just broke down & bought the Adam Rolling Stone cover poster online today! I am so hopeless(and the object of incessant teasing from my 3 adult kids!)

  • Studio57

lola- i have said it before and i mean it. If Adam’s first song/album sucks, to me it will be the fault of 19E. Here you have THIS VOICE that comes around once in a lifetime, and if they fuck it up, I’m gonna have to hurt someone, lol. It would be like having a strativarius and using it to play Weird Al Yankovich covers.

  • Truthiness

But, honestly, guys, if you’re waiting for Adam’s first single to change the face of pop music, you’re going to be sorely disappointed. My hope is that he and Kris have nice, tidy little hits on this first go around.

Yeah, my only hope is for some modest respect financially. I don’t expect him to change the face of music. I expect that his record with 19Evil will be bland and commerical, in whatever genre or combinations of them he does, and I hope to just like 2 songs on it, if I’m lucky 3. And I just hope it does okay commercially. I don’t need or expect some MEGA hit. The music industry is NOT doing well and the economy sucks, so it’s best to keep those things in mind, to my mind.

What’s more I think that Adam has a much tougher road to be successful on the radio than Kris. And a much higher potential of crash and burn. sigh.

And Kris’s song and it’s being a cover version and being safe, radio friendly, blandy stuff has just reinforced that we can’t expect too much from the 19 machine. Adam certainly isn’t going to be immune to the Blandising!Machine 5000 no matter what he or anyone else says.

I definately see why people are apprehensive with Kara after NOBO. I’m with beehiway-it wasn’t that bad. If it would have been Adam’s (and I’m glad it wasn’t) he wouldn’t have dropped it on tour! He would have sold the hell out of that song. It’s not “Imagine”, but neither are the words to Kris’s new single that Michael Slezak is drooling over. A song doesn’t have to be lyrically earth shattering to be a hit.

Also, the article doesn’t say “Strut” is Adam’s 1st single. Isn’t Kara writing for Kris and Allison also?

On a completely shallow note…I love the Love Drug T-shirt. It’s my favorite!

  • Susan M.

OMG!!! That Zodiac video is hysterical. I was going to try to resist watching it at work, but after everyone’s comments, I decided to risk it. I have my lips totally pressed together and was biting the inside of my cheek not to laugh out loud. And I still had to cover most of it up with other windows.

He is too freakin’ adorable!! But Adam, please don’t torch the pretty. Get a special-effects artist to make some fake flames for you or something.

Wow. This is going to be a wild ride.

I don’t see Adam fans putting a negative vibe on things at all. At the most I see worry over Kara and a tendency to judge her entire career by NoBo alone. For all we know she was brought in on the eleventh hour to fix the damn thing that 19 was already committed to. She’s done plenty of great work.

I also think that many of us do understand the style he wants to do- I can’t for the life of me see what is so hard to understand about a dance/rock/electronica vibe with the odd big ballad thrown in, all with a common denominator of Adam’s voice.

I think most of us are very optimistic.
He hasn’t let us down, not once not ever. It will be outrageous and fun and successful and those few that are worried will soon be looking back on any doubts with a “could you believe we were even worried?” vibe.
This is just pre-album angst because as Idol fans we like drama. And I mean that in the nicest way- it is what fans do. We fret. And hyperventilate, and rave, then angst again.
I am leaving it up to Adam and his team.
I know I will like whatever he does, and I know what he does will be fabulous. Always has been, always will be.

Seriously, I’m super excited about the album, but I’m anxious as well. Kara’s name just pushed me a little more towards the anxious part of the emotional equation.

^^^^^All of this! I couldn’t have said it better. I think that 19E feel like they have a gold mine with Adam, and while he may not have final say in things, there is no doubt in my mind that he has input. If he’s not confident that something will work, I can’t see them forcing it on him.

I get the whole dance/rock/electronica vibe – I enjoy a lot of that music already, as separate genres and with a few bands that already fuse them together. It suits him perfectly. I’m very excited and not a bit worried.

Aloha! Good Morning! I have not slept and it is morning and yet I managed to stay away from this blog all night and now I regret it.

    Okay.

Why are we assuming Strut is Adam’s first single? He mentioned it in an interview but other than that there’sno indication it’ll be first– or even if it made the cut!

Also.. I think his first single will be with Red One.
Hello!… 6 songs produced by Red One? Red One most famous of them all? Red One= Lady Gaga?

    Kara= NoBo?

    puleeze.

And I’m not saying this because I haven’t slept.

  • tiger92

I just hope his songwriters really made use of Adam’s only instrument.

Unfortunately, Kris’s songwriters seem to be making use of only ONE instrument also.(no guitar playing on album) I would say Adam’s “only” instrument beats the hell out of some others who have two or three. Personality, charisma and performance style also count as instruments in this very visual world of music. I’d say Adam has at least four instruments that are extraoidinary!

  • adamaloha

And I laughed hysterically at the CTF video. Hair tantrum. Adam pouting. OTT Zodiac guys telling Adam flaming hair is OTT.

And I’m not saying all this because I haven’t slept.

    I’m with you, Buderschnookie!
Adam has navigated this whole rise to fame with fierce aplomb. He’s managed to quell all those folks who would have homogenized a lesser gawd. He’s done it his way, and I’ve loved that way. I do not expect to be disappointed at all, but I do revel in a little angst now and again. It’s my nature.

  • IDonn0

    Ok I’m de-lurking finally..LOL I feel like a Klingon de-cloaking or something.. hehe

Adam Lambert will NEVER fit into a genre. He reminds me of a 21st century Elvis meets Freddy Mercury. We couldn’t pidgeon hole them either. He has told us time and time again to expect eclectic and thats what his album and career will be.

His soaring voice with amazing inflections will cary him through. I don’t love all of Elvis’ music, but I like it all and just LOVE a lot of it. Freddy did the same for me with his talents. There will be OTT stuff right along side some stripped down beauty.

Be patient my friends, because Adam Lambert is going to take us on a ride like none we have experinced before. He is a unique and one of a kind entertainer and I for one just can’t wait for the ride :)

  • lola

I’m with you studio57. I really hope that 19E won’t waste Adam’s talent. And yes, we have been waiting to hear that kind of voice again and we’ve waited long enough.

    Good morning adamaloha;

Why are we assuming Strut is Adam’s first single? He mentioned it in an interview but other than that there’sno indication it’ll be first’“ or even if it made the cut!

I’m not sure. I think it’s because he mentioned it to RS, and it’s the only song title we have so far. One might think that there’s a good chance of it being his first single, and that the name mention might be an early test of the excitement metre in the market.

It’s all speculation at this point, but it keeps us talking.

  • Mary102

OK – my thoughts – love the title, and think it fits Adam like a glove – you can already see the vid/performance for it ;-)

In fact, the name reminds me of “Let’s Dance” – and Adam did say that the Bowie Medley was kind of indicative of where the album was going (that and SL) – so I can see it borrowing from that, which would be a-ok with me :-)

As for Depeche Mode meets Queen – me likey! I LOVE both – and DM’s Enjoy the Silence is one of my all time fav songs! They also fit in that same Tears For Fears (re the original MW – not at all like the one Adam performed), and Duran Duran mold – songs with great techno beats.

Also, I think it’s unfair to judge just based on Kara’s NoBo – to be sure – that song was made of fail, but then, she wasn’t the ONLY one working on it (didn’t it have, like 5 co-writers?) and AI coronation songs usually suck big time (even the “good” ones). Plus, I think Kara LOVES Adam, LOVES working with him, and that the two of them have a lot of great positive energy together to put into this. I can see it being a really great collaboration.

  • rowenaaine

Well, if they’re testing the market by floating the name out there, count me IN. I love the idea of something called “Strut” as Adam’s first single. The name is perfectly suited to the way he performs and conjures up all kinds of pretty. Kara’s involvement is causing some of us pause, but nonetheless, the concept as Adam has described it to RS is on point with who he is. Let ‘er rip, um, I mean LEAK asap.

  • Studio57

BTW, know I have really lost me mind, just broke down & bought the Adam Rolling Stone cover poster online today! I am so hopeless(and the object of incessant teasing from my 3 adult kids!)

Did you all know you can have posters made at Walmart for 10 bucks? A friend of a friend took front row pics of Adam at one of the concerts and got one made. The freckles, the belt buckle, and yes, the whole shebang can not be appreciated fully unless it’s poster sized. Just thought I’d share.

  • adamaloha

Sunn: It’s all speculation at this point, but it keeps us talking.

Okay. I’m all for that. Thanks for calming me down.

I love the title Strut. But I’ve listened to a bunch of Kara’s songs and I have to say I like very few of them. Someone above said if the singer’s strong that carries her songs– I think that’s exactly right.
I liked Pink but not the song.
That rascal Flatts song “Once” was rather trademark Kara– lots of lyrics, nothing memorable.
Ain’t No Other Man I liked. Ditto Beautiful. Christina Aguilera made them work but they were also good songs.
Can’t really say I’m impressed with that many others,.
But it’s all opinion and taste, isn’t it?

  • Mary102

    Ok I’m de-lurking finally..LOL I feel like a Klingon de-cloaking or something.. hehe

Which means we really have NOTHING to worry about, then ;-)

And I’d rank Adam up there with Christina Aguilera – in terms of powerhouse vocals, and I LOVE “Ain’t no other man” – he could kill songs like that just like her with that voice of his!

Still flailing (in my head) at the Zodiac video.
    LMAO!!!!!

    Back to main topic —
If you asked me 1 year ago if I would ever become semi-obsessed over a contestant on American Idol and followed through 52 concerts on the AI Tour, I would have laughed at you. But somehow Adam’s managed to change all that.

I think Adam has some crazy ass creative ideas in his head just needing the right environment to develop (cue in Zodiac video). So far he’s been getting away with most of the stuff ‘typical’ idol contestants have never gotten away with, e.g. stage lighting, fog, ott makeup, performing Whole Lotta Love. While he says that all contestants needed to do was ask for those things, we’ve seen how that didn’t seem to work out with Megan’s outfit, or Danny’s boots. There’s probably an element of PR and charisma that helped him get away with it.

As for Adam’s album, I’ve decided I’m not going to worry about it until it drops on us (nothing I can do anyway to change the outcome of the music). In fact, because he can be so OTT, maybe the final outcome between him and RCA would be somewhere in the middle (cue in Crawl Thru Fire vid) — not so OTT that regular peeps can’t get it (hello Zodiac!), yet edgy enough to break him away from the typical idol music output path.

I think that in the end, if he can make a shitty song like NoBo sound good (yes I actually like his version of NoBo), I think he can get away with a lot of things. I have actually friends, not invested in him as much as me, love the song when it was being played frequently on the radios because of his incredible voice. So in the end, I think as long as the final product doesn’t mask up his beautiful voice, it’s probably going to be at least decent-good if not amazing.

Positive thinking (and wow that came across as kinda rambly)

Nahh… I’d love it if Adam had a great song to sing and didn’t HAVE to save it with his voice. Ideal world… you know. Wish upon a star…
I like Pink but would not buy that song…. I WILL buy Adam’s, though. Need to support our boy!

  • hwc

    Kara DioGaurdi? Strut?

I think I found a short line from one of the verses:

“A strut, a piece of wood, cut and milled to 2 inches by 4 inches, but to length and nailed into the framing if a house for support and I am feeling overwhelming emotions of anthemic empowerment comparable in some ways to scaling the highest mountains or fording the deepest streams.”

Catchy, isn’t it? You should hear the rest of the verse. With lyrics like Kara D writes, who needs melody? Oh well, it’ll save hard disc space when I delete this one from iTunes.

  • jill16

I love the title! Adam struttin’ his stuff……Yah! Kara will never live down her NoBo song. But I’m optimistic, it could be good….maybe.

So you’re not looking for “Want – part 2″ ;-) ? I completely understand – it would be really really nice to have just a really strong, good song, made even better by Adam – though he can save “so-so” songs, imo. However, even he would struggle to save complete “drek” – if you get my drift.

WRT “Ain’t No Other Man” – that falls in the category, imo, of being a great song, catchy, fun, but it probably wouldn’t sound as good if not sung by a strong singer – it really suits Christina very very well. Here’s hoping Kara, knowing Adam’s abilities as she does, is able to suit his voice and really use it to it’s full potential.

Just one some thing — Adam did not say this was his single, it might be and it might just be a track from his album. I bet that we hear about a different song that is Adam’s album single after Kris’ single is released.

I’m not skerrd. I just want to hear new music soon!

If the music is typical 19 bland dreck, he’ll still sing the crap out of it. And at least the live shows will be visually entertaining!

Adam hasn’t dissappointed me yet. So I really don’t care what he puts out on his album — ballads, dance, rock anthems, even country — I’m pretty sure that I’ll like it. But I really want the videos. And can someone point me to the line to buy Adam solo concert tickets?!! Because I’m there.

Buderschnookie: Oh honey- go get familiar!
One of the very first Glam originals Marc Bolan and T Rex were a funky rock/boogie/folk/dance band that was simply fun. Marc was sexually androgynous in a hippie sort of way, but added a bit of glitter to his face and just exploded.

If Adam gets people to rediscover T. Rex, it will be a great thing!

Even better, I love that he specifically mentioned T. Rex and Depeche Mode as influences for his album. That give me a real glimmer of hope that we might get a rock edge on some of his music.

But, honestly, guys, if you’re waiting for Adam’s first single to change the face of pop music, you’re going to be sorely disappointed. My hope is that he and Kris have nice, tidy little hits on this first go around.

There is not one comment about Adam “changing the face of pop music” on this thread — why this “caution”? I just want some fun party music and some sexy songs — and I so far Adam has continued to bring us fun, entertaining, sexy music. I don’t I’ll be disappointed with his album, but if I am disappointed, I will still be an Adam fan and wait for the second album.

OMG, my heart is beating 1000 a second. I am so excited about anything related Adam ´s new songs. When I read “Kara” I was a bit apprehensive, but then, like Mary said, she was not the only author of NOBO. Also, I like Depeche Mode and love Queen, so my apprehension lessened. “Strut” reminded me of the entrance of Feeling Good, and also the transition from Life on Mars to Fame when he walks towards the center of the stage.

I say to myself, no worries, Adam ´s multiple talents will overshadow any non-deserving song they might impose on him.

So, I am ready for some more Adam.

Happy times coming for sure :-)

Kara?! Ga. I went through the wiki list. (Thanks snuffles!) I didn’t recognize the vast majority of them. Of the six I did  :

“Sober” = least favorite Pink song ever
“Rich Girl” (Gwen/Eve) = catchy but never could get over the whole “Fiddler on the Roof” thing
“Pieces of Me” (A.Simpson)= catchy but pure fluff
“The Real Thing” (Bo) = ok, yes, I liked
    “Ain’t No Other Man” (C.Aguilera) = liked
“Good Girls Go Bad” (C.Starship/L.Meester) = love
“I Do Not Hook Up” (K.Clarkson) = freaking adore.

That’s four songs I like to varying degrees and two songs I love out of a credit list of ~200+.

    SERIOUS trepidation here….

He hasn’t let us down, not once not ever. It will be outrageous and fun and successful and those few that are worried will soon be looking back on any doubts with a ‘could you believe we were even worried?’ vibe.

For me he blew “One,” on the show, just blew it because the studio version rocked and he had done that, that would have been great. And the choice of “Cryin’”? Sure it was a last minute choice because he was going to do a One Republic song, Kara and Randy gave a One Republic song to Kris, yadda, but as far as a song choice goes, not great to me. So yeah, Adam has “let me down,” musically. Which is fine, by the way. No artist I have liked was perfect all the time.

I cannot understand why some Adam fans always tend to put a negative vibe on his album or first single. We haven’t heard anything yet and all are still speculations. We don’t even understand what Adam means when he speaks of what album will be like. I agree we just want to lower our expectations but why can’t we be like Kris fans’ ¦.just be happy that he is coming out with an album.

What you call negative, I call realistic. Tomato, tomahtoe, different strokes n’all. For me it’s realistic to know that the music industry is down 30% in profits over last year. It’s realistic to know that the economy is worse than it was last year. It’s realistic for me to know that history of music created by AI idols on their first records, has a really high amount of suckitude in them. It’s realistic for me know that electronica music I love, typically hasn’t done well here in the US. It’s realistic for me to know that there hasn’t been a lot (any) successful dance/pop stars in the US lately. And for me (for you) creating these incredibly high expectations is actually more damaging to Adam than more what are to me, more realistic ones. But that’s just my take on it. YMMV, clearly.

It’s not that I don’t get being excited, it’s just that I personally don’t believe that being hopeful about things, also means you ignore the precedent of AI records or ignore the state of the economy as a whole and the music industry in particular and even more particular, in genres that Adam wants to go into.

Eh, I’m not going to slit my wrists from the angst of it all, but I don’t have a problem with having worries and reservations about Adam’s album doing well in the US. I mean I’ll still buy it, but I’m a fantard, not everyone is like me. Luckily for the world as a whole.

Seeing that Zodiac video, I can see he is a showman and I can imagine what his tour will be like.

I imagine that his show will be like a revue or a Broadway show – with the same stage set, set list, choreography, costume changes, and special effects. I can imagine many types of venues but theaters, especially casino theaters seem very appropriate.

Will he have an audience that goes to more than 1 show? more than 10? more than 20?

    What do you imagine?

And as far as angsting over the first single- we tend to forget that Adam has the unusual good fortune to be releasing two songs at nearly the same time- the 2012 track will be out there as well. And while it will not be on his CD (as per Adam) if it hits it will certainly bring him to a larger audience.
    Double the chances of success.

I’m skeerd!!!! I want so much for Adam to do well. He has so much talent. I’m hoping that since the Zodiac show was a few years back that he has grown since and won’t be so OTT. He wants to be succesful, so I think it has to rein it in some. OTFT can come later. I want so much for him to establish himself. I am keeping fingers, toes and everything crossed that he comes out the gate running and winning the race. Kris has a hit on his hands – I am just so hoping Adam gets one too. Maybe I’m a worrywort, but I had such a knot in my stomach last nite, after hearing Kris – I wanted so much to have a snippet from Adam and be able to revel also because I think Kris is going to rake it in. Personally not enamored with generic music. Patience I guess!!!

  • ravengirl

I agree with beehiway. Adam’s NoBo studio version was strong and vibrant, and I loved it. Hated the song initially, but hearing that studio version and blotting out some of the cheesy lyrics made me realize that Adam can perform the hell out of just about any song if given the chance.
Oh drats, the song is back in my head. Not a terrible thing, but I’m supposed to be writing.

  • suebrody

I love Christina Aguilera. In some ways, she is the female Adam (attractive, powerful, gorgeous voice, strong performer). So if I like *her* and I like *her* songs and some of them were written by Kara and this one is written by Kara, there’s a good chance I will like it. It won’t be NoBo part deux, I would bet good money on it.

And I bought Want and NoBo (studio; no way in hell would I buy performance, sorry, ick, and not his fault). If it’s Adam, I’m buying it. (As I’ve said before, the ONLY song of his I do not like is IICHY, both studio and performance, tho I have both of them, and I may be the only one who feels this way.)

I think Madonna and Britney shows are similar in intensity – choreography, costume changes, etc. And they’re held in arenas. Pink is doing Cirque Du Soleil type acrobatics on her tour, and she’s just sold out Madison Square Garden. So, that’s kind of what I imagine.

Thanks adamaloha, don’t know how I missed that! Never get sick of stuff like this:

That made the performance by runner-up Adam Lambert the grand finale of the show. To say he didn’t disappoint would be the mother of all understatements. Lambert was electrifying – the energy he generated on stage could barely be contained in the venue, which seats 10,000. I can’t imagine how Allen or anyone else could have followed him and not appeared diminished. Lambert is a super-nova. This guy knows what it takes to be an entertainer. Maybe Idol should have signed him as the fourth judge!)

Sue Brody- i bought Want. Can’t help it, i actually like it. Nothing could make me buy Nobo though.

Rowenaaine: I am with you. When I saw Pink and Gaga perform on the MTV awards all i could think of was how a performance by Adam would fit right in there. That was the best awards show in a long, long time. Don’t get me wrong, i am a rocker at heart, but there is nothing like a good stage show.

Welcome, IDonnoO to our loving, dys-fun-ctional family!

    I loved this:
“Be patient my friends, because Adam Lambert is going to take us on a ride like none we have experinced before. He is a unique and one of a kind entertainer and I for one just can’t wait for the ride ”

because I agree. We are along for the ride. I think whatever he does is going to surprise and thrill us because that’s who he is. We can count on upbeat, sexy fun from him and him giving us something we don’t even know we want. If Kara is involved in the mix, well, maybe he’ll help her achieve a new level of accomplishment. I actually like his version of No Boundaries, at least the studio version. I notice that I do not push the “forward to the next song” button when it comes up and I’m singing along to it, so I guess that tells the story.

It’s good to be an Adam fan and I think it’s going to stay good for many years to come. WoooHoooo!! Can’t wait for the new music!

  • Tara

I didn’t notice Cheeks. Had to go back and look. Nice catch!

  • weese

If Kara has a decent song in her I’d be surprised and I highly doubt she could pull off two. Poor Adam, poor Kris. I think she owes Kris big time, however, and should put all effort and inspiration into his.

  • HoppersSkippersMiners

Studio57: I have said it before and i mean it.

    HEE!! Best quote evah!!

sidewalkstory: I keep going back to the CTF docu vid. Adam just cracks me up.

You guys didn’t notice Cheeks at 3:37

Yep, I did. LOL at Adam being too OTT for the Zodiac show (subtle flames indeed!). The future as an Adam fan will be interesting to say the least *straps self in for the ride*.

Strut sounds like a perfect title for Adam, but I’ll reserve judgment until I actually hear the song :)

  • maturin

I like Sober a lot, but I wonder how much of a role DeGuaridi had. The interviews summarized in wikipedia all have Pink writing the original song. In some of these cases, the “pro” song writers brought in to add fanciness don’t actually contribute a lot.

Kinda hoping that might be the case for Adam, too. He says nice things about Kara, but he did not look fooled by NoBo. I’m sure he’d take evasive action from anything too heinous.

He is a unique and one of a kind entertainer and I for one just can’t wait for the ride

I’m glad you came out of lurk-mode. Great post.

Has anyone ever seen the likes of Adam from the AI show — Yet we were just backing out of the driveway. Has there ever been an AI concert like this summer – We were just warming up the car drving down the street. We “ain’t seen nothing yet” from Adam. We are going to take a spin on the freeway for a long, long ride.

I can hardly contain myself thinking about where we are going.

  • adamaloha

Studio57 (love your name!) You’re welcome.
have to go check out Cheeks…

I would like to see his first CD titled: Absolute.Perfect in quality or nature. Complete, pure. Not limited by restrictions.

  • HoppersSkippersMiners

Studio57: Did you all know you can have posters made at Walmart for 10 bucks? A friend of a friend took front row pics of Adam at one of the concerts and got one made. The freckles, the belt buckle, and yes, the whole shebang can not be appreciated fully unless it’s poster sized. Just thought I’d share.

Really?!!! Thanks for the info!!

  • http://www.irish-wolfhounds.com Buderschnookie

I’m hoping that since the Zodiac show was a few years back that he has grown since and won’t be so OTT.

Crawl Through Fire was filmed 9/9/08- barely a year ago.

I agreed with the HuffBO article cause I was there in Bridgeport sitting with GaGaLambert, who I hope will attend the solo show with me, cause she was awesome! It sounded like the roof was gonna blow off the place when he was on!

The poster was only $5.95 plus 1st class mail costs!!! So excited (hangs head in shame-last poster was David Cassidy when I was 12!!)

Lambert’s biggest challenge is finding someone in his camp who he trusts to be his advisor on limits and creative choices, like an author who needs the discipline of a trusted editor.

  • Studio57

Hoppers ( can I call you HSM?) You are welcome- Sams Club does them too, you would not even imagine how good they come out. If you have a high res photo, you will not be disappointed.

  • Mary102

‘Strut’ reminded me of the entrance of Feeling Good, and also the transition from Life on Mars to Fame when he walks towards the center of the stage.

Don’t forget the “jacket strip” :-) Oh yeah, good moment for me, for you…

For me he blew ‘One,’ on the show, just blew it because the studio version rocked and he had done that, that would have been great. And the choice of ‘Cryin” ?

LOL – I mostly blame Simon for “One” (imo not the best song choice, though studio version is very pretty) and tptb (1:30 song snippet can never do it justice) – but I digress…

Way to keep us grounded, Truthiness, I agree that you have to take EVERYTHING (including many factors completely outside of Adam’s control) into consideration for this.

I’m afraid you’re right. Adam does have a tendency to go overboard. What if his hair had caught on fire– MJ, anyone? It would have had life-altering consequenses. Not to mention it would have looked ridiculous.

And–uuhhh– in that CTF vid– was Cheeks one of the crotch grabbers at the end?

Welcome, IDonn0! Glad you came out of the shadows. :)

BestAI – love your analogy of backing out of the driveway, heading down the street and going for a spin on the freeway! That’s exactly it.

Studio57, your strativarius quote is priceless! And although I didn’t see the MTV awards live, I played back Gaga and Pink performances the next day and thought Adam could pull off equally OTT visuals (though I’d rather he keep his feet on the ground and not cover the pretty with fake blood). I think back to Madonna’s “Like a Virgin” performance when she came out dressed like Marie Antoinette and sashayed around. Costumes and dancers are definitely in Adam’s future.

austinmidwife, ravengirl, beehiway, I too liked Adam’s studio version of NoBo. It failed miserably live for both Adam and Kris but I think would have worked if Adam had had more time to rehearse it. I think he could have pulled it off on the tour if it had been his coronation song.

maturin, AGREED. If Kara’s latest contribution was heinous, I think Adam would graciously play it down – not mention it to RS as a point of discussion.

I’m not gonna worry about Kara – it’s all positive thinking just like Adam’s personal attitude. The album is going to be siiiiick!!!! right? Who’s with me? !!!!

  • Mary102

I for one just LOVE Adam’s positivity about the whole thing! That really is his attitude on life, isn’t it? He always seems to be ready for a party, all smiles and energy :-) Even when he’s sick (literally sick, not figuratively siiiick ;-) )!

That’s a great combination for the kind of album he seems to want to produce. We’re not looking for an emo-angsty downer of an album (though, I thought it interesting he mentioned being against this, since MW is very very emo-angsty – and he was drawn to that song on AI – and of course does it so well.) Still, Adam wants to have a party with this album (especially the first single). I’m all for that!

I think, good album or just ok, he’ll be BRILLIANT on the media rounds selling it (just lots of energy and enthusiasm – which will hopefully hook more of the unconverted)

I agree with that statement. But I also believe that when it comes to videos and live performances financial considerations will be the greatest motivator to tone it down. The fact is, OTT costs money. Lady Gaga is on record as saying that she spends every cent of her profits on her costumes, videos and stage sets. She said it on Friday Night With Jonathan Ross when she guested a couple of months ago.

  • 4evrmomof4

With you, rowenaaine. Just think, if Kara’s song sucks, we have 11 more songs from some of the best producers in the business.

All Adam needs to do is perform live, on a national stage, big award shows, etc & everyone forgets about the sucky Kara song.

BTW, Kara has a lot to live down as well. Idol acted like she got re-signed because of her awareness of Adam’s talent. Ya really think she would chance screwing it up with a sucky song?! She is going to be very careful she does not get blamed for Adam’s album tanking.

Also, saw a rerun of the Christine Aguilera story the other day and it was insane that Britney was signed b4 her because no one new how the market that gorgeous girl with the incredible voice.

It really does remind you of Adam’s journey as well. Would love to see them duet!!

    Add me to this list.

  • sidewalkstory

I like Adam’s studio version of NoBo. It may have been too wordy for a live perf w/o practice, but it’s sounds good when Adam sings the studio version.

And I loved “One” and “Cryin”, both live and studio. The only mistake I think Adam made was that he needed catchier tunes for the middle-of-the-road voters. The vocals on both were excellent. I was crying after “One” along with his mom.

  • 4evrmomof4

Loved all of his studio versions, except Tracks of my Tears- missed the beautiful falsetto interpretation.

Loved NOBO studio and Change is Gonna Come (however like the Zodiac Show one even better ’cause Adam’s OTT personality comes thru!!), but Feeling Good live and studio versions are really vocal masterclass!

  • Cate

Welcome to the de-lurkers and Klingon de-cloakers!

I THOUGHT that was Cheeks by Adam’s butt!!! I knew I’d find something here if my eyes weren’t deceiving me.

I liked the studio NoBo, too. Agree that we’re not gonna have any input with his album, and choose to keep the faith in our Glittery Alien.

  • rowenaaine

Mary102, one of the things that keeps me drawn to Adam (aside from the vocals, the charm, the pretty, the…wait, where was I?) is his fierce positive attitude. I’m a big believer that we are what we *believe* we are and can achieve whatever we choose to focus our energy on. From what Adam has said so far in interviews, it seems that he has been singularly focused on his goals once he “accepted” who he was and went on the road with the “Hair” touring company. I love (or is that flove) that he is so centered and calm whenever he is out in public, but gets visibly energized and excited when talking about his music or his performances. He just seems so genuine.

4evrmomof4 – YES a duet with Xtina would be amazing. Can you imagine the two of them one-upping each other on the vocal runs? And you’re right – Kara has a lot to prove right now after the hype of getting resigned on AI, and probably to herself as well. But since Adam counts her as a friend (back when she presented him with the Young Hollywood award), they must have chemistry together.

Whoa, so glad to see other Adam fans admitting to liking the studio NoBo (Squirrely, Mary102, sidewalkstory – duly added to the list). I thought I was the only one who didn’t hate it. I played it to death in my car the day of the AI finale, imagining Adam singing it that night after his (ahem) win, tears of joy streaming down his face at “there are no boundr-aaaaays.” Yeah, corny. (facepalm)

  • Q3

I really like IICHY — although I know a lot of Adam fans really don’t like that performance. But I don’t really like Adam’s performance of “Crying” — which Adam really wanted to sing. IMO it was not very Adamized — and his most karoake performance.

I’m not gonna worry about Kara ‘“ it’s all positive thinking just like Adam’s personal attitude. The album is going to be siiiiick!!!! right? Who’s with me? !!!!

    I AM!!

I worried that Adam wouldn’t win Idol, and he didn’t win the vote but it didn’t matter.

I worried a little that there might be a backlash to his RS Coming Out article, but it jsut made him a bigger star.

I read comments about Adam not getting a good reception in “the South” or from “Middle America” during the Idols Live tour, but he was without doubt the most popular and best reviewed performer — across the country.

Day after day, Adam has continued to be himself and disarm the haters, charm the doubters, and bring us a string of amazing, fun, sexy performances. So how could Kara derail all this by co-wrting one song?

Adam said “It is a sonic dress-up party”. To rewrite the famous Bette Davis line “Fasten your seatbelts, it’s going to be a bumpy night wild, wild time!”

My plan, is to enjoy the excitment, hope for the best, and trust that Adam will bring the same joy, positive energy and fire to his new album that he has given us in everything else!

Love that the new Zodiac Show Crawl Thru Fire video has uncensored Adam now that the AI show is over! Please release more of this people! It’s a glimpse of what we’ll see post AI of Fierce!Adam!

I remember when Carmit, Scarlett and the other guy were interviewed while Adam was on the show and they told that “fire headress” story! But I didn’t realize that he was fighting so hard for his creative idea! I think they gave him great advice and he looked hott the way he was.

I think it’s also great how his CTF outfit was a Skingraft jacket (with tails!) and Cheeks is one of the dancers on stage and one of the crotchgrabbers! Kinda a full circle moment…

  • sidewalkstory

I’ve been thinking about the song title “Strut”. I hope this isn’t his first single. I think there will be too many gay jokes if it is.

  • Susan M.

    @Buderschnookie,

I’m totally behind because geez, my job actually demands work (IKR?) when there is crucial Adam to discuss.

But I am so all about your entire post!!!

I have NEVER been able to do the “temper expectations and you won’t be disappointed” thing. I’m just not wired that way. I get invested and excited and hope with all my heart. But I’ve survived more letdowns in this lifetime than I can count and I’ll survive many, many more (hopefully).

Telling myself not to get my hopes up is an exercise in futility. If I’m committed, my hopes are up, but that’s fine. I trust Adam completely.

And count me as another who does listen to NoBo as part of my CD rotation. Yes, it’s cheesy as hell, but the boy sells it and what the hell, I’m buying.

  • Heart

Now that I think about that Zodiac!Adam, I think that Adam was smart to show us NoMakeup!Adam during the AI audition and use his voice and natural charm to hook us in as an AI audience. Then slowly get wilder and wilder until the “conservative” AI fans are used to Glam!Sexy!Wild!Adam at the end of the concert tour!

The people who aren’t used to the Glam!Sexy!Wild!Adam might get freaked out, like my mom who saw a TV news clip of him doing his slinky sexy moves from Fame and thought he was wierd and disgusting. She couldn’t listen to his voice because of the visual (which I think what happened to a lot of people during Ring of Fire. I was mesmerized, but some people were disgusted.)

Anyway, I told my mom that she’s entitled to her opinion, but she’s not exactly the demographic that he’s going for. My mom is definitely more into the Josh Groban type (voice and lookwise).

Age has nothing to do with it, I know! I met an Adam fan black family who was an 80 woman, her 40 something son, and 9 year old grandson at my concert.

I know whatever he picks as his first single will be awesome! He’s lucky that he’ll have the ClassicRock song and DancePop song out at the same time to appease a wide range of musical taste!

Completely OT (or, maybe not) – sitting in a meeting and the presenter picks up the mic stand and moves it aside. A silly grin spreads across my face – remembering the good times this summer and eagerly awaiting the good times yet to come. I’m in this for the long haul!

  • mgk

Trying to stay positive about the Adam/Kara collab. Adam should know better than anyone what he wants his music to sound like, and would probably feel secure enough with Kara to really give his input. It might allow for a true collaboration. Plus, in an argument, he can always bring up NoBo and have an automatic win.

  • rowenaaine

    Sonic dress-up party FTW!!!!

Q3, I so agree. Worrying did nothing to change outcomes – and he came through all of those challenges you listed:
Runner-up on Idol = bad good!
    RS cover = overexposure star!
Reception across US = boos and intolerance popular & critical success!

“Worry is the interest we pay on a debt we may not owe.”

sidewalkstory, not gonna worry (see above) about gay ANYTHING. People that don’t like Adam or don’t approve of his lifestyle will find something to rip on NO MATTER WHAT. They’ll find the rudest things in the most innocuous of titles, so why not just go out and STRUT???

  • twinkle

“Feeling Good” is my favorite studio recording of Adam’s and anytime someone is in the car with me when it comes on, the only way i can explain what it does to me is to say that it makes me want to STRUT. so i LOVE LOVE LOVE the idea of a song titled STRUT that is supposed to make you feel sexy and let it all hang out.

  • Studio57

4evrmom- Feeling Good has got to be THE technically best studio version when it comes to vocals. Has anyone ever even TIED to sing along with that song? It’s almost impossible.

Tracks Of My Tears ( live, have the Itunes video) will always be my favorite of all time, with Mad World live a close second.

Q3- my 12 year old LOVES IICHY which I think is so odd, because it’s so ….torchy? never thought my JoBros loving daughter would like Adam, but she dumped Anoop as soon as he sang Mad World, lol.

  • Truthiness

I too liked Adam’s studio version of NoBo. It failed miserably live for both Adam and Kris but I think would have worked if Adam had had more time to rehearse it.

It also didn’t do well commercially. Yes it wasn’t the coronation song, promotion, etc., but it didn’t move a lot of units in iTunes or whatever. So again, the voice of Adam alone isn’t going to help him commercially. Which is why it’s prudent to consider that Adam is going to need some help with good songs, not going to OTT in them and in other things. That Crawl Through Fire shows why he needs a good editor. Adam does not always have great instincts and that was only a year ago. So I hope that in his collaborations, he is listening to them.

Which is why it is potentially troubling for Adam to be working with someone like Kara, because while I’m sure he knew that NoBo sucked, hopefully it will go beyond that with him, when working with her. Considering that while she can do some good stuff, she can also do total dreck and if Adam is in his dreck and/or OTT mode, not a good combination.

That said, I would love to hear a combination between Depeche Mode and Queen…somehow.

Oh and I loved the live version of IICHY and loathed the cheesy ’80s power ballad studio version. I have hope that nothing he produces for his album will sound like that, or his version of NoBo.

I agreed with the HuffBO article cause I was there in Bridgeport sitting with GaGaLambert, who I hope will attend the solo show with me, cause she was awesome!

4evrmomof4, so you finally delurked! Good for you. Of course, let’s go see Adam’s solo show.

I fully agree with Ed Martin in HuPo concerning Adam’s performance in Bridgeport, “To say he didn’t disappoint would be the mother of all understatements.” It was the third time I’d seen Adam this summer and what impressed me most was how much more relaxed, smiling and spontaneous he seemed in B’port compared to the first show I saw at the beginning of August in Uniondale. I’ve really enjoyed every performance I’ve seen of his, but emo hair + ‘woooommmmannnnnn” + extra side mic straddling in Albany was my favorite WLL. Smiling just thinking about it :)

It sounded like the roof was gonna blow off the place when he [Adam] was on!

I’d describe it as the escalating rumble heard just before an epic storm or hurricane. Not only was it ear-splittingly loud, but it also vibrated right through you.

Adam = Strut. That works for me. Kara better not screw this one up. After all, she called him a “Rock Gawd.” Wouldn’t want to be her if she disappointed the Exalted Ruler of Planet Fierce or his loyal subjects. That said, I’m confident that Adam will fight for his creative vision to be fulfilled.

Loved the new Zodiac YT of Crawl Through Fire with commentary. I wonder if in his creative process Adam ever names his character(s)/ persona(s)? Who might his Alpha CTF or WLL alter ego be?

How many more days for his CD and solo tour? Can’t come soon enough for me.

  • glamatheart

‘Feeling Good’ is my favorite studio recording of Adam’s

Yep. In fact, when I wanted to introduce people to Adam I would give them two tracks to listen to back to back “Mad World” and then “Feeling Good.” I think those two sum up what Adam can do and how his voice can move you in such very different ways. You go through a full range of emotions with those two songs.

That’s why I’m excited about the two songs that are going to be released soon. A ballad and hopefully an up tempo number (Strut). I’m not saying they are going to be as fantastic as MW and FG but I hope they can show off Adam’s versatility in the same way.

But sorry, sadly even Adam can’t save NoBo for me. I hate it.

ETA: I should mention that before those two performances, I would listen to “Come Home” and then CTF. Same effect.

  • IDonn0

What do you make of all the sexiness talk? Just curious.

In a word? “Liberating” for me. I LOVE sexy as most do, however enjoying it watching another male hasn’t been an exceptable thing. I have come to realize that sexy is a personal feeling. Why spend time analyzing who made you feel that way, just enjoy it for what it is.

  • Squirrely

I have come to realize that sexy is a personal feeling. Why spend time analyzing who made you feel that way, just enjoy it for what it is.

Exactly! That is exactly what Adam has been trying to convey. I love hearing this from a straight male point of view.

    favorite Adam songs.

I love OTT Adam, but intimate!Adam makes my heart pound.

  • beehiway

I agree with you Heart. Do they have any more videos they have been waiting to release?! Bring them on. I think the extended CTF was uploaded to youtube day after tour ended. And did someone mention this already, another Jacket stripped off. LOL I love how he is so coy in the interviews saying something like ‘its just so hot I had to remove it’

  • 4evrmomof4

GaGaGlambert, got so excited to finally hear a title of a new song, that I couldn’t help but de-lurk!!!
Just hoping that his solo tour comes close enough to CT that I don’t have to spend a fortune on plane fare, child care and hotel rooms!!! Let’s see where I can see Adam’s upcoming concert & not pay for hotel rooms…..I have a daughter & her husband who lives in Seattle, a son and his wife who live in Phoenix, an ex-husband & his wife in Florida(Ah, maybe not there!), uncle in Orlando, cousin in DC…….wow, I really need to save up for tickets!!!

What do you make of all the sexiness talk? Just curious.

In a word? ‘Liberating’ for me. I LOVE sexy as most do, however enjoying it watching another male hasn’t been an exceptable thing. I have come to realize that sexy is a personal feeling. Why spend time analyzing who made you feel that way, just enjoy it for what it is.

    I think I luv you.. :)

    Sexy is sexy..

  • rowenaaine

IDonn0, you made me laugh out loud with your “But why do I move one finger just enough to peek?” LOVE IT!! Thank you for sharing that with us! Hope you stick around here to enjoy the craziness. :)

I’ll raise my hand for loving the studio version of “Feeling Good” the best. It tops MW for me. I also love the studio versions of “One” and “ACIGC” (though I loved live ACIGC from Idol and pre-Idol as well – that song just works for him period).

And I would so drive up to Bridgeport to see Adam and hang with 4evrmomof4 and Gagaglambert. And you need to come down here and see him at MSG or Nassau Colliseum on the solo tour! (OK, maybe it will be the Hammerstein Ballroom first.)

  • Mary102

Whoa, so glad to see other Adam fans admitting to liking the studio NoBo (Squirrely, Mary102, sidewalkstory ‘“ duly added to the list). I thought I was the only one who didn’t hate it. I played it to death in my car the day of the AI finale, imagining Adam singing it that night after his (ahem) win, tears of joy streaming down his face at ‘there are no boundr-aaaaays.’ Yeah, corny. (facepalm)

    Aww – don’t make me cry :-)

Completely OT (or, maybe not) ‘“ sitting in a meeting and the presenter picks up the mic stand and moves it aside. A silly grin spreads across my face ‘“

OMGz – if someone did this in a meeting, I’m so the person to COMPLETELY lose it and start laughing/getting giddy just thinking of, ahem, certain stage moves I’ve seen recently ;-)

    Re Adam’s studio/live versions:

I actually really like BOTH the live and studio of TOMT – in part because we got 2 excellent, and very different versions (like 2 for the price of one). But of couse the live one is Adam at his best, imo.

Liked the live IICHY, but thought the arrangement of the studio one was no good (too dated) – not Adam’s fault imo (stupid ptb rushing through production with canned instrumentation)

I was actually down on Adam during Top 3 week – Simon and ptb screwed him over with “One” (Adam and U2, imo, do not go together). And “Cryin” was not a very bold choice, especially considering Kris’s bold choice that week. It was his chance to take another big risk, but he chose not to (for whatever reason, chief among them being lack of time).

He has such an extensive repertoire, though, he could have pulled a lot of stuff out of his bag of tricks (a good choice, for me, would have been “Crazy” by Gnarls Barkley – in an understated way – he’s done it before, sounded great, and it would have been “unexpected”, etc.)

    But I digress (sorry!)

  • adamaloha

I love “one”– both his live and studio versions. For me, the song gained an added measure of poignancy after I watched Bono and U2′s Berlin video of the song– it is basically about a gay man begging for love and acceptance from his father.
Am I the only one who didn’t know that?

    U2 One.. Berlin

It just occurred to me that Queen meets Depeche Mode, though it sounds like early Muse to me, might also be something along the vein of this song by IAMX:

  • tiger92

Which is why it is potentially troubling for Adam to be working with someone like Kara, because while I’m sure he knew that NoBo sucked, hopefully it will go beyond that with him, when working with her. Considering that while she can do some good stuff, she can also do total dreck and if Adam is in his dreck and/or OTT mode, not a good combination.

Wouldn’t there be record producers and the RCA label looking over Adam’s single and album? I don’t think they are going to let Kara and Adam decide what his 1st single is going to be. Who knows if Kara’s song will even make the album. If it is actually the 1st single, there must be consensus from several music execs.,producers,etc. that it is the right move.
RCA and Jive must have some confidence in Kara or she wouldn’t be writing for both Adam AND Kris. At this point, I don’t think Kris or Adam are calling the shots.

  • 4evrmomof4

rowenaaine, I am so there at MSG or Nassau Colliseum (Hammerstein Ballroom works, too)

Let’s hope we get to hear some new music from Adam sooner rather than later!

I have ripped the audio from every you-tube performance & copied to CD and still am clambering for new Adam music. If it is Strut, or something else, or Time for Miracles, fine with me, just let us listen to SOMETHING new!!!

  • Squirrely

Totally random but a duet of Adam and Christina A. singing ‘I Would Do Anything for Love’ over the top but would be fun.

  • Mary102

Oh, and talking favs of Adam’s performances, no particular order, but they would be:

    MW
    TOMT
    FG
    WLL
    ACIGC
    BoW
Satisfaction (one of his most under-appreciated, imo)

But I love the different moods of each song – including the party/techno vibe (not to mention, “shock value” – as in, he actually DID that song?!) of ones like PTFM.

I’ll save my judgement on Kara’s songwriting skills as far as this song goes, but how about Adam Lambert working with Martin Gore? That would be pretty cool’ ¦

OMFG! Hell yes or how about a writing session with Dave Gahn who has turned into quite the songwriter. His first songwriting contribution to a Depeche Mode album was nominated or a Grammy for Best Dance Record “Suffer Well.” Adam mentioned dance, electronica, guitar – all in this one.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QN-paWxINlQ

I saw DM last month at the Hollywood Bowl and I could imagine in the future Adam being frakking seneraded like Martin was during “Someone” with so much love and appreciation from the audience. Hell, we sang along to every song!

    Sounds GREAT! to me :)

Kara and “Strut”. NoBo was written for Danny(my opinion), but if Adam could have had the time to truly make it his own it would have been better. Also a better production would have helped. “Strut” conjures up thoughts of a peacock to me and we all know that that just isn’t our Adam.

  • Truthiness

Hey guys just so we don’t get in trouble, I don’t know that talking about Adam’s work on the show is relevant to this thread, beyond references to his possible recordings going forward, i.e. this song and/or his album, which is the point of this thread. And in that vein let me say that even given the previous studios on the show, thankfully that will be different from his recordings going forward. Better production and equipment, more time, better producers, now he just needs some good songs for that. *fingers crossed*

Although I know that Adam said he’s worked with Kara in the past for NoBo and that she was very helpful, what was he going to say? ‘thanks for trying to help me in singing your sucky song which is possibly the suckiest suck in the history of AI coronations songs…and that’s saying something! So yeah, thanks for the advice and help, Kara.’ Hopefully with this “Strut,” song Adam won’t have to be lying about how great it was to work with Kara or how great her song is.

ETA: I do like IAMX, so Adam making a few songs that sound like that, would be great, but not sure how successful he could be in the US though. Man, we suck sometimes.

Sunn- IAMX is another group Adam has mentioned. Liking them-can see a little bit of Soft Cell influence?

The only Soft Cell song I’m familiar with is Tainted Love, so I’m not a very good judge of their music or whether they’re an influence on IAMX.

  • suebrody

I like IAMX a LOT. I like Depeche Mode, Joy Division, and the Cure, so it makes sense that this sort of eerie kind of feel would work well. I don’t know Soft Cell (except Tainted Love, LOL). That might be why I love the studio version of MW (oh, and One as well…it’s the way the song SHOULD have sounded Top 3 except it was chopped up and stuff–Slezak was right). It’s so floaty…okay, I don’t know the adjectives, but it was intense. I like brooding and moody with some electronica thrown in.

I still contend that the lyrics to NoBo are cheesy, tho somewhat catchy. HOWEVER–ACIGC is inspiring without being cheesy. Too bad *that* couldn’t have been his (almost) coronation song.

I don’t care right now, tho. I just want to hear the damn track! ;)

ETA: I only mention his S8 songs as examples of the kind of music I would like to hear from him. I grew to love Starlight (and am now a huge Muse fan). I always liked RoF b/c it wasn’t wailed but just in your face intense. (I doubt there will be much wailing on the album, heh). I don’t know if he will record anything like that. I suspect Strut won’t be like that. I am trying to think of what Strut will sound like (still). And I hope it’s in the Christina Aguilera vein, which, as noted, is certainly possible. I just can’t see Adam’s first release being a shiny, happy pop song.

  • pjd

Like others, I’m just excited to hear anything NEW from Adam!

One thing I am wondering about is will they be able to capture Adam’s voice on this single/album? So far, nothing truly does that – it’s like the recording equipment or microphones or something just don’t get that full depth/timbre that his voice has. I know the AI recordings were rush jobs and probably none of the pre-AI stuff used state of the art equipment. Certainly, everything recorded for AI or in a studio is much better than the homevideo sound we get from UC videos or the tour – but I still felt when I heard him live (even with rather iffy arena sound) that there was so much more to his voice than what I had heard in the recordings. Is there hope that they will really capture his voice?

  • Ladyguard

What’s more I think that Adam has a much tougher road to be successful on the radio than Kris. And a much higher potential of crash and burn. sigh.

I hope this is not the case because from what I heard of Kris’s new song, I don’t like it. Please, please give Adam a better first song.

  • 4evrmomof4

    pjd, that is very concerning.
I could not believe how amazingly different-richness of tone, depth, etc his voice was live, even with bandzilla and terrible arena sound than on tv, and on all of the idol and pre-idol recordings thus far. It is almost as if recording ‘reins in’ his voice’s true beauty….

  • https://twitter.com/draddee Sunn

Is there hope that they will really capture his voice?

I don’t think so. It’s like an Opera singer’s voice. No matter how good the recording is, it just doesn’t compare with a live performance. Something is lost in a recording, not sure what it is, I just know it’s not there. And the finer the voice the more is lost.

  • pjd

Yes! – that is what I was trying to say ;) Obviously, we all love and listen to the recordings we have, but I am so hoping that taking a little more time (I know it’s still rushed, but at least it’s not like during the show) will allow them to get closer to “the real thing”. However, I know nothing about recording and electronics (I’m trained as a mechanical engineer & in computer science – TOTALLY different fields!) so I don’t know if I’m wishing for the moon or not.

  • Natasha

I can’t imagine anything more Adam-ish than Strut. He mentioned the song, although not the title, in an interview before the tour and sounded very excited about it. The only thing that gives me pause is Kara, for obvious reasons.

  • Truthiness

I hope this is not the case because from what I heard of Kris’s new song, I don’t like it. Please, please give Adam a better first song.

Well better doesn’t necessarily equal success on the radio and/or album sales. And I do think that Kris has a very good chance of success with that song for the radio and maybe boosting album sales.

But my point is that the music Adam wants to make, the more electronica stuff, hasn’t really done well in the US. Though some dance/pop certainly has, but bands like Goldfrapp, who I think are great and are referenced in this article, haven’t done well commerically in the US. And TRex was popular many decades before, though one could certainly make the argument that their style of music has been carried on in different bands for years.

And trying to do different kinds of genres together, or use different kinds of styles, is certainly riskier than just creating some safe song that has a mildly good hook in it, and is fairly catchy. So that’s why I think that Adam is a riskier bet, than Kris is commerically.

Though yeah, I do hope for music I like more from Adam than that song for Kris (though I am waiting to really reserve judgement until I hear the whole song).

True … but I do have some classical recordings of opera singers (mostly singing oratorio, not opera as I’m not that big a fan of opera) that are pretty darn good. Not as good a live, but closer to capturing that richness than the AI studio tracks are to capturing Adam’s voice. Can I at least hope for better than we’ve had yet, but not perfect?

  • Q3

Cate: I was curious about the racial mix at the concerts, but no one has said much and Lil didn’t have a lot of posters on the AI boards. Glad to hear there was some diversity in attendance, including all the mentions of the gay fans.

I saw the Memphis concert. Memphis is Lil’s hometown. The Memphis metroarea (MSA) is 44% African American, and the concert area (Western TN, Mississippi, Arkansas, Northern AL and Lousianna) is also about 40% African American. My estimate is that the Memphis concert audience was over 95% white.

Sunn: I don’t think so. It’s like an Opera singer’s voice. No matter how good the recording is, it just doesn’t compare with a live performance….And the finer the voice the more is lost.

Hmm….well I don’t know. I’ve been to many an opera (I have a family member who’s an opera singer so I get free dress rehersal tickets), and I have a lot of classical recordings. Now, I will admit the vast majority of my classical collection is still on vinyl (yes, I already stated above I’m a geek. Deal. Plus a lot of it was inherited, I’m not that old. Deal twice.) so there may be analog versus digital recording considerations, but I have NOT found a QUALITY issue with recorded operatic-type voices. There may be an AMBIANCE issue, but that’s not the fault of the recording.

Ergo, as long as the production values are upheld, I have faith that Adam’s voice will be heard. That said, I might be tempted to spring for vinyl (there was a rumor that they were going to have limited vinyl??!!) versus CD.

I remember the first time I heard Dame Kiri Te Kanawa sing in Capriccio – My parents had countless recording of her she was their favorite prima donna – I got chills from hearing her voice live, it was like nothing I had heard before. That was in 1990 or 91, and we had recording of her in both Vinyl and CD.

BTW: If it were eligible, I think the studio version of FG should get a Grammy. It’s stellar.

I suppose that I should not be surprised that Adam mentioned T. Rex, but I still am. T. Rex never really brokethru in the US and were really most influencial in the early 70′s. But I am thrilled that Adam did mention T. Rex. Mark Bolan and T. Rex were heavily influenced by early Rock & Roll artists and their music always retained the strong guitar and beat of raw Rock. That “realness” has been lost in a lot of the 21st century post/neo glam music — buried under layers of computer enhancement and programmed beats. So if Adam picks up just the slightest bit of this raw, real music, I will be thrilled. But I am certain that he will at least give us the party attitude that T. Rex put in everything they did.

Adam seems to be really knowledgable about popular music and he is really working with some of the best current producers. I think that he is focused on making a radio-friendly, commercially successful album.

IMO the biggest difference between British/Euro Electronica and US Electro and Electronic Dance, is that the American music has much stronger Hip Hop and House influences. The #1 song in the US is an electro party song:

Black Eyed Peas I Gotta Feeling HD

And I would love to hear Adam cover “I Gotta Feeling”.

Finally, no matter what, I am not expecting Adam to do “futuristic disco” or a lot of “classic rock”. So two fears of mine have been eliminated.

  • saga

4evrmom- Feeling Good has got to be THE technically best studio version when it comes to vocals. Has anyone ever even TIED to sing along with that song? It’s almost impossible.

Huh. Well, I will admit that I’ve never heard the SAME operatic voice both recorded and live. I will also say that the turntable is located in a small room with paneling so there’s a really sweet level of reverb (full, but no over-echo). [shrugs helplessly] May be the reason for my perceptions.

Honestly, operatic staging draws me in with its excitement, but if my eyes were closed, I often like the recordings just as well if not better. (Aided by the fact that at home I’m wearing far comfier clothes than I would at the Kennedy Center) :-)

I think it is a pretty safe bet that “Time for Miracles” will be a classic rock anthem, and not sexy or offensive at all. We know that Meatloaf’s band played the music — so it’s a rock song, that’s that they do.

I bet his album single does push the boundaries a bit, and might be a bit much for some people. For all we know, his first single isn’t even recorded yet. But if it is “Strut”, it doesn’t sound like a “self-empowerment, let it all hang out” song could offend that many people.

You have all the musical knowledge you need. You know what you like. Much of Adams sexuality is visual so the music will not reveal that much of it. As I said in an earlier post “sexy is a personal thing” so enjoy his new album “as I know you will” and if by chance it makes you feel sexy then good for you.

I am also a bit worry about his performance style. I think he may be too ‘sexual’ for a lot of people.

Sex sells. Sorry, but it does. Watch the VMA awards. Every time I turn on the radio I hear Katy Perry, BEP, or Lady GaGa. Heck, go watch the video or VMA performance of “Single Ladies”.

If someone would have told us that Adam was going to molest the mic stand, play with sex toys, thrust and grab at his crotch, and do slinky body rolls at the American Idol Summer Tour…what would we have thought? Oh no! The AI audience isn’t going to like it. Well, they ate it up and asked for more! 90% of the reviewers, representing areas from coast to coast, gave his set rave reviews.

I’m thinking Adam will fit in fine with what’s hot right now. I’m not worried about him or his judgement. He was smart enough to give the AI audience “what they wanted, even if they didn’t know it”. They know now.

I love stuff that makes you feel sexy, that puts you in a good mood……The message is “Be yourself. Let it all hang out “-Adam Lambert

Hi everyone quite an interesting conversation you have here.

Adam’s sexy can be disquieting to the uninitiated, and to those who are not sure how to manage their feelings and reactions. To most it is appealing because it is interesting and evokes a feel good response.

But sexy is an integral part of being human .The frenzy of the drums in an African tribal offering, or the mellow hum of the cicada’s can both be very sexy. Very stimulating.

The best part of what Adam is saying is that he is provoking us to think. I think it is the test of the strength of his artistic capabilities. Being provocative is a huge part of being an artist.

So whatever music he will put out there, it will be stimulating. And whether you sizzle in it or not – will then be the story of another 40 page thread.

As for me- I am open to all possibilities from Adam. I really do not need to worry about anything. He has already proven for me ,that he knows his own art. Matisse and Chagall did not paint because they were worrying about whether their art will be liked . They had to release their inner joy.
This is it for me. Just waiting for Adam to release what his current joy is .
And I plan to revel in that .

Much agreed. In fact, while I expect his album over all to have a sexy and very positive empowering vibe, I also expect at least one song that contains quite explicit/over the top lyrics that go right up to and perhaps over the line with regard to what radios will play.

His album might contain the uncensored version but there could be a more censored radio version. It will create buzz for him in the media and get people talking.

I’ll be surprised if his album doesn’t include at least one “controversial” song.

After all, didn’t he say that one of his favorite songs by somebody out there was “Kiss and Swallow”? Lyrically, something like that would cause some buzz, to say the least.

If there is no such song, I’ll blame his label.

    Love CTF!!!

But…interestingly…I saw beginning of vid of ACIGC from Zodiac Show, and I couldn’t watch it. Adam looked kind of freakish to me (I like OTT to a point–CTF is about as far as I go, to be honest), but more than that, he was…I don’t know what he was doing, but when I think about how beautifully he sang it on Idol, and how powerful it was, and was in studio as well, this just seemed off to me. Maybe it was an anthem at Zodiac, but I took it as more of one when he was in his white suit, singing, extolling, pronouncing that A Change Is Gonna Come. And I know that’s a bit much, BUT that’s how I felt when he sang it. My eyes welled up. I also jumped up and down and watched him sing it at least 50 times. It’s in my top five in my Adam Nano Collection. So ironically, he’s dressed in black for Zodiac and it was off for me.

So…I want a mix of songs, of course, but my hope is that we will get our Starlight, our MW, our ACIGC and our FG!!!! And of course our Bowie. I think we will, if TPTB and time allots it.

I like GaGa but I cannot STAND to watch her in concert (gagging during VMAs). OTOH, I was transfixed by Muse and was digging Green Day (2012, anyone?!). So I hope we get the latter two and not the former, but I hope I’ll like whatever we get. Let’s just get it already!!!

One more parting thought before I go home to the family . . .

The original ACIGC from the Zodiac Show highlights just how much Adam has improved in the past five years. That performance almost worked . . . but not quite. I loved it because it’s Adam, but if you look at the performance more objectively, it’s like his voice is too big for the lyrics, and he doesn’t have total control of his instrument.

He sounds like this much younger kid with this amazing but completely untamed voice literally bursting outside the boundaries of the song. He had much better vocal control of ACIGC by the time he performed it live on AI. Plus, the outfit, while fabulous in the first performance, didn’t quite work (not that there weren’t things to like about it, haha).

When he performs CTF, however, the costuming is spot on fabulous. I think that he has a much better sense of who he is as a performer by CTF.

And I would so drive up to Bridgeport to see Adam and hang with 4evrmomof4 and Gagaglambert. And you need to come down here and see him at MSG or Nassau Coliseum on the solo tour! (OK, maybe it will be the Hammerstein Ballroom first.)

Rowenaaine, MSG & Hammerstein are close to where I am and Nassau Coliseum about the same as Bridgeport to drive. My two cents worth is that Adam perform at the Beacon Theatre in NYC. It’s a beautifully restored venue, has great acoustics and hosts lots of iconic acts.

4evrmomof4 I could not believe how amazingly different-richness of tone, depth, etc his voice was live’ ¦ than on tv, and on all of the idol and pre-idol recordings thus far. It is almost as if recording ‘reins in’ his voice’s true beauty’ ¦.

pjd: Is there hope that [the record label/recording equipment] will really capture his voice?’ ¦

Sunn: I don’t think so…No matter how good the recording is, it just doesn’t compare with a live performance’ ¦.And the finer the voice the more is lost.

Strut or whatever Adam’s first single is must be radio friendly. His album will need to satisfy existing fans, but he has to cultivate a fan base well beyond that.

While I understand the issues raised about the differences in his voice live vs. a recording, it’s relative. There are lots of successful artists whose voices are marginal at best, but that’s one thing he and we don’t have to worry about. I do agree with Sunn that recordings cannot compare to a live performance. However, there are those who will never hear or see him perform live and they probably will have no idea or care what we are talking about. If the majority of us here were fans before we heard him sing live, I am confident that newbies will be too.

pjd: Is there hope that [the record label/recording equipment] will really capture his voice?’ ¦

As long as they don’t kill his voice with autotune I am happy, noticed it on the little snippet from Kris’ song.

I agree completely. And Adam has said similar things himself.

Plus, I think that he has improved since the start of Idol. His vocal skill was there all the time, but I think that during the tour, he actually started to become more sophisticated vocally. Just compare the first WLL, Starlight and Bowie to the end of tour performances. He really got forced to stop relying on his big high notes and focus more on controling his vocal improvisations.

And, although I think he started the tour with the ability to control the entire arena — he really got even better as the tour went on. More confident and comfortable on stage.

  • HoppersSkippersMiners

pjd: I bet she [the EE] would understand the subtleties of microphones and recording equipment!

[laugh] Not necessarily! Sound engineering is a really weirdly specialized field. I used to mix sound for on-campus bands as an undergrad. And, while I admit that I can solder broken microphone cables and lug amps with the best of them (ok, not the bass cabinets, but those suckers are HEAVY), the guys who were really into the sound waveforms, etc really spoke their own language.

OT aside: As for girls in engineering programs: when I started in the late 80′s there were hardly any (I think there was ONE in the entire CivE Dept. Now, my ChemE dept is 50/50. Still less in EE, MechE, etc. but its really strange – in a good way! – how much things have changed.

Adam explained this Zodiac Show performance in the LA Times four-part article he did in early August. It was his response to the producers of The Ten Commandments.

    http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/americanidoltracker/2009/08/adam-lambert-the-ultimate-interview-part-two.html

” ¦I was in love with being a rock star and I was going to rehearsal with nail polish on and eyeliner from the night before, and the director came up to me and said, ‘Could you take all that off?’ and I asked, ‘Why?’ He told me, ‘The producers are a little uncomfortable with it. They don’t really get it,’ and I said, ‘But we’re not in costume yet. Why does it matter?’ He said, ‘They feel like you’re supposed to be the leader of the Hebrew army by the end of this and they’re really uncomfortable with the way it looks.’ And I told him, ‘This is theater. This is a pop musical. What … is your problem?’

“I changed a lyric in it [ACIGC]. Instead of ‘I’m afraid to die,’ I sang, ‘I don’t see what’s wrong with a little glitter around my eyes,’ because I wanted the song to be about what I was dealing with on ‘The Ten Commandments,’ this weird, ignorant, ‘Why are you wearing nail polish?’ Like this weird discrimination because I was expressing myself and having people feel uncomfortable with that and then everything tying into my sexuality and just being alternative in any way and wanting the song to be about that. It’s interesting that that came full circle with ‘Idol.’ Really weird and the same issues. Maybe more far-reaching this time and less personal.”

Uh oh, *peers around cautiously* anthrogeek, are you there?

Actually, suebrody, I know what you mean. I didn’t watch the Zodiac ACIGC for quite some time because I heard it was really OTT, but then I was chastised quite soundly for not giving a chance and I went back.

The thing with that performance, and I do credit anthrogeek and others for this, is that it is so empowering and the absolute indication of his ferocity. How he can be that OTT and still be alpha male in the process is just another indication of the endless parade of dizzying contradictions that are Adam.

And is just part of what make him so powerfully compelling.

  • Truthiness

Strut or whatever Adam’s first single is must be radio friendly. His album will need to satisfy existing fans, but he has to cultivate a fan base well beyond that.

Agreed! Which is why today after listening again to BOP’s “I Gotta Feeling,” I feel that there will be some autotuning on some of Adam’s vocals for at least some of his songs, maybe the same song will have some autotune and some unfettered Adam. I was just reminded after listening to that snippet of Kris’s, that really, it’s going to really, f’reals be blandized. I mean I knew it intellectually, warned about it constantly in Cassandra like fashion (or so it feels sometimes), but I guess I still was hopeful despite my best efforts, because Kris’s song (while I’m sure will be hugely successful) depressed me with how bland and overprocessed it was. Sorry Slezak, not impressed with the song thus far in avoiding those things. So I can totally see 19Evil autotuning Adam’s voice to fit more into the existing radio market, like they did to Kris. sigh of sadness.

Come Home, Feeling Good (studio), MW (studio), I Just Love You: favorite Adam songs.

I, like you, love “Come Home” and “I Just Love You”. I hope Adam will put them in a CD some day. I don’t think people, outside of those who go on the web, have heard Adam sing these two songs. The public needs to know this side of Adam’s amazing talent.

To further the discussion of Adam and his live versus past/future recordings…..

I heard Adam at the Verizon Center in DC. And, while I knew Adam was incredible, the sound in the Verizon Center was, IMO, simply awful. Based on the recaps, there were lots of people who adored the set, but I was in front of the freak’n sound board and they couldn’t get it right. I enjoyed the overall show, really. But I, for one, was bitterly disappointed at how Adam’s set sounded. Am I used to the Kennedy Center and Wolftrap? Yep. Did I think the Verizon Center was going to match those places? No. Did I think the sound quality was going to be *that* amazingly bad. Hell no. Which is why I’ve been snarking at the tour sound guys throughout the threads.

Was any one else here at the Verizon Center in DC? I pretty sure luv was, but (sorry, hon) I’m going to discount her opinion just this once because it was her first concert and she doesn’t have a basis for comparison. Its why I didn’t write a recap. I couldn’t come up with a nice way of saying that the sound worked better for Sarver than it did for Adam.

The point I’m trying to make is that “live” does not NECESSARILY sound better than recorded, even for a voice like Adam’s. That said, production values ARE VITALLY important. IMO, that’s why David Cook’s recordings suck royally as compared to his live performances. The production to his songs is…flat, for lack of a better term. For Adam, I’m just crossing my fingers that the production values are high enough to get across most of his vocal quality.

[grin to Sunn] Doesn’t need to be as good as his live performance under ideal situations. Just close.

ETA: [grin] Yes, luv, I moved the comment you just responded to immediately above to down here. You’re not losing your mind. I just thought my other post was too long and the intra-post topics weren’t related enough.

God, could you imagine what would have happened if that crazy backup singer would have hijacked either one of those?

*shakes fist in air* “Damn you Crazy back-up singer”!

The only tough part is the last high note’ ¦

That’s what I’m talking about saga! It’s right up there with More Than A Feeling when he sings that last “walking awwwwwaaaaaaaaaaaayyyy” I think I timed it once and it was 18 seconds, lol. Can’t get through either one without coughing up a lung.

  • KLI

And, although I think he started the tour with the ability to control the entire arena ‘” he really got even better.

This is why so many of us feel so excited about Adam’s career to come. He has so much potential, and he hasn’t even begun to reach it yet. When you look back on his earlier work, you can see how he has improved over the years by refining his voice and ability to express his art.

If you think about it, Adam hasn’t had many opportunities to test his potential prior to Idol. In most of his prior work, he was playing a role, not creating his own art. Likewise, he faced limits because of a lack of financial support, the right musicians to support him, or what not.

CTF must have been so exciting for him because he was able to have a significant amount of control over his artistic vision. In the video posted earlier with the backstory he talks about how he gets to be in charge of the visual presentation and engage in free expression. How liberating for somebody who had always played a role.

Similarly, appearing on AI must have been such a thrill, where he had a high quality band, the right lighting, and a choice of costumes.

Can’t wait to see what he does on the album with all the support he is getting now.

  • Sherena

Well, since Adam is co-penning the single with Kara, I am sure he will make sure it is not too wordy, or cheesy, or bland! After all, this is Adam lambert we are talking about. He is definitely not afraid to speak up. 19E might have a lot of say but I think kara respects him enough to listen to his ideas and scrap some that are out of line with what he wants. Not worried at all.

  • Q3

Adam has mentioned Linda Perry a few times and he mentioned her very recently. I take the recent mention of her as a good sign that at least Adam liked one of her songs.

OT aside: As for girls in engineering programs: when I started in the late 80′s there were hardly any (I think there was ONE in the entire CivE Dept. Now, my ChemE dept is 50/50. Still less in EE, MechE, etc. but its really strange ‘“ in a good way! ‘“ how much things have changed.

OT, but I can’t resist: I started college at a major state university in 1971 as the first, and only female civil engineering major. It was an interesting adventure — and I ended up in Statistics/Computer Science but completed 3 years of engineering as the only women. I only switched because there were no jobs for Civil Engineers in the mid-70′s (bad recession). Whole different world now! Thank goodness we’re made a lot of progress since then!

ETA: It would be like buying the New Coke. You don’t screw around with something that’s fine to begin with.

ETA– probably off topic. I’ll move itto the headlines thread,

  • Sherena

Well, since Adam is co-penning the single with Kara, I am sure he will make sure it is not too wordy, or cheesy, or bland!

It sure won’t be bland, but wordy and cheesy? Hmm. Idk if I trust Adam with that. He DOES say that he’s learned not to be so wordy since his first songwriting efforts. So I guess that leaves cheesy. I’m okay with cheesy though :) It’s a freakin dance song. Plus, subtlety is really not Adam’s thing (“Flames coming out of my fucking head!…it’s subtle!”)

I was hoping his first single would be RedOne or Ryan collab. I love Linda Perry’s ballads so I’m hoping he has one of those on his album, maybe as a third single? Kara has some good songs but in general her tunes tend to just build and build without a melody you can sink your teeth into. Some of them are good songs, but even then they’re not really my kind of song. I especially like pretty, melodious verses, which I think Ryan could do well, but not Kara.

Does this mention mean that Strut is definitely his first single? I’m leaning towards yes, and I’m HOPING that this means it’s a really, really good song. *crosses fingers* But I’m def. not as happy as I would have been if they’d announced it was a Ryan, Linda, or RedOne collab. But that’s okay. The title is glittery and awesome. *clings to pretty title*

ETA: NO AUTOTUNE EVER. Autotune kills vibrato and the subtleties of a singer’s tone. Both of those deaths would be tragic if they happened to Adam.

ETA2: Overanalysis aside, I’m as excited as hell right now.

  • Susan M.

Okay, gonna come clean here. I stopped watching AI midway through S6 and the likelihood that I’d start again seemed remote. In late February, after S8 started, I saw a picture of Adam with a sentence or two about him somewhere online. Directly to YouTube I went. I was positively mesmerized by his vocal prowess and persona. ‘Come Home’ and ‘I Just Love You’ made me a fan before I ever saw him sing a note AI.

While I agree that “the public needs to know this side of Adam’s amazing talent,” the question is, does he? My thought is sort of. If he includes a “Mad World” – ish ballad on his album, which seems likely, he does, to a degree. However, I don’t think his first album will have many like it. Perhaps later, as a more established artist, he will have the freedom to revisit some of those Upright Cabaret type songs more fully. Right now, we dont really know what he has in store for us. And I’m impatient as hell to find out.

  • Studio57

Is it on Rock Band? Which one? I have 1 and 2 and I swear it’s not on there. Is it one of those things where you have to unlock the Holy Grail ? They need to use that song for deep sea diving training or something, lol.

I think FG is under 17 seconds, doesn’t Diana DeGarmo still hold that damn record? They should just give it to Adam cuz he’s Adam :) and Diana is, well… Diana.

Oh, and to stay on topic: Kara D still sucks.

Okay I’m fessing up. First got my bachelor’s in Geology and Master’s in Geology and Geophysics. Went to work for a petroleum company and hated it. I went back to school and got a bachelor’s in Civil Engineering and then a Master’s Civil – Environmental Engineering. I got my first BS in 1970, first MS in 1971. Went back to school in 74 and finished in 1979. I was the only woman. Had a hard time finding a job – but I did. I stayed in engineering for 33 years and retired at 55 to become a first time mom of 2 adopted kids 7 and 13 who came from Ukraine. My biggest challenge being a mother and with a child who is ADHD with processing problems – but the most rewarding. Kara still sucks. Hope Strut is excellent.

Were you at the barricades by any chance? My husband, daughter and I waited there (in vain!) for a long time and talked to a lot of folks. They all said the same thing – Adam’s set was amazing, and yes it was despite the sound issues, but could you imagine him in a venue with great acoustics? Mind-blowing.

ETA: And I’m not talking about the helium effect because I honestly did not hear that at either venue. More of the tin can, too loud kind of thing. Sorry, I’m not sure how to word it. I know nothing about acoustics but I think I do know really crappy sound when I hear it.

DDD discusses the length of Adam’s note in FG as I remember. For some reason 17 seconds sticks out to me. That YT had a girl with a stopwatch in front of her TV.

Adam’s note length is 12.5, Diana’s was for 13.0. But I seriously doubt that Adam’s recording and singles will include anything like that, keeping on topic. In fact even his recorded Feelling Good cut the note, to mind wisely, a bit short. Which the song didn’t need, because his studio version of the song is the best of the season, I would argue. And if Adam can learn to, as he says he does, differentiate between a desire to go over the top vocally in live performances, but still keep a beautiful voice and tone, like he did in his FG studio, but scaled back from his live version…that would be very smart and could very well for him. As well as making some pretty music.

After browsing the headlines thread and watching the videos of the Idols before they get on the buses a zillion times, I don’t want to miss out on commenting on ACIGC from the Zodiac.

Perf’s like those of the Zodiac club, require active participation in the way that you must actually pay attention if you want to enjoy them. This is so unlike the easy listening that most have been accustomed to.

Once you really listen to what Adam is saying, everything else just flows.

Not that it really matters, but the author’s name is Michael Patrick Nelson, so I’m thinking it’s a guy.

See, this is what happens when I sneak-read articles when I’m supposed to be writing them. Maybe the headline about Hellen and Ellen made me think woman. Thanks! I don’t think I even looked at the byline.

This is it for me. Just waiting for Adam to release what his current joy is .
And I plan to revel in that .

WOW what a wonderfully, evocative statement, animated! Thank you for posting this. Lovely.

Truthiness, you have the right name, because that is the absolute Truth!

I think/hope that Adam is smart enough to listen to himself critically and to take advise from some of the great people he is working with. Then we have a shot at getting a really good song or two.

HoppersSkippersMiners: Was any one else here at the Verizon Center in DC?

glamatheart: I was there and you are absolutely right, the sound was atrocious…Were you at the barricades by any chance? My husband, daughter and I waited there (in vain!) for a long time and talked to a lot of folks. They all said the same thing ‘“ Adam’s set was amazing, and yes it was despite the sound issues, but could you imagine him in a venue with great acoustics?…I know nothing about acoustics but I think I do know really crappy sound when I hear it.

Hi glam! Missed the barracades, b/c heard at the venue that they weren’t going to allow them (?!) due to DC security (and I had brought my RollingStone and everything)! Guess they had them after all?

Sigh. But its THIS that I do worry about with recordings. We KNOW that Adam’s voice is spectacular. However, recordings need sufficient production values to let that shine through.

I keep coming back to David Cook. His recordings, IMO, simply do not augment his voice, and come off disappointingly bland. And he was the WINNER. My fingers and toes are crossed that they take enough time with Adam to avoid the easy processing route in order for his voice to come through properly.

And, carrying this further, its what worries me about Kara. Few of the songs I recognize: ‘Sober’ , ‘Rich Girl’ , ‘Pieces of Me’ , ‘The Real Thing’ , and even ‘Ain’t No Other Man’ aurally “pop” to me. YMMV. The only two (out of ~200+ songs) Kara songs to do that for me are ‘Good Girls Go Bad’ and ‘I Do Not Hook Up’ . That’s a 1% success on the Hoppers scale. Does not leave me with warm fuzzies. :-(

Sidewalkstory, I think you’ve hit on something here. Many of Adam’s performances require attentionn… and often are not fully appreciated unless they’re seen multiple times. There were several times during the season I did not “get” a performance– I was intrigued by ROF and it made me uncomfortable– in a good way– but it took several viewings for me to fall in love wih it.

Adam challenges all my senses, and what I see and hear is enhanced by what my emotions and brain are telling me. Even the sexuality is contingent on the the “Adam package” as a whole. He appeals to me on a physical level– but even more intellectually and spiritually.

When I listen to a Kris song– it’s pleasant.

Something sexy for everyone, a range of looks to not pin down the man who can chameleon into endless varieties of smoldering.

Been singing made up lyrics all day while out traveling. With some kind of ultra hooky, yet full of meaning, strut your stuff, don’t hold back sing-along-chorus for concerts. Assume nouveau funk back beat. Assume slither into your blood pulse baseline. Adam is all about the baseline. All throbbing under at least 3 of the 4,5, whatever it is octave range.

Strut is one-word perfection. The right song could be as pervasive as “Be All That You Can Be” in message. Kara may even redeem herself if they play this out with the full Lambert.

Gee, am I excited? Does this one thread have over 250 comments? And, of course, I am aware that they could also make as many bad moves as someone buying NoBo a vowel. But why not hope for a little while.

I also agree that you’ve hit on something here. Adam has a big voice, a big persona. He’s not background music. For today’s market and for today’s attention span, that might not be the best thing sales wise, but it makes ME happy.

  • Susan M.

I don’t know, this whole discussion is a tough call because obviously the vast majority of posters here REALLY know music (I don’t include myself in this other than I know what I like, but as far as being an aficionado, I consider myself lower-intermediate).

But here’s where we’re caught between a rock and a hard place because we know blanded-down dreck sells, otherwise we would have never heard of Miley Cyrus, the JoBros and half the blockbusting acts out there. Then we also know Adam has to sell to be able to proceed in this business and build the power to do what he wants musically and performance-wise.

However, if he is successful with their formulaic crap, then tptb will want him to stick with what works and we’re back to where we started.

So what’s the solution? I think tptb are attempting to walk that tightrope by hiring as many respectable hitmakers as they can to write and produce Adam’s album. Kara is dreck as far as we’re concerned, but the woman’s songs sell. She’s riding even higher right now with the success of “Sober,” which probably negates her epic fail with NoBo. (And again, not letter her off the hook, but she was one of a team of three for that song.)

I just have a very difficult time convincing myself that Adam cannot do something with anything he is given.

Trying to visualize him performing Strut. It’s been a long day.

  • FifthHouseSun

Adam Lambert will NEVER fit into a genre.

    May this be true always.

IMHO, for his first single, especially with the nice balancing anthem possibilities of “Time for Miracles”, if Adam goes with all out can’t stop thinking about the beat, dance in your car when you hear it route, while “singing his face off” he has served all “masters”. Especially if it has the “self-empowerment” angle in the lyrics.

There’s the commercial needs of great beat. (Sam Sparro, anyone?) There’s the fanbase needs of I Want to Hear That Voice. And there is the video dazzle to bring in the new fans.

If he goes too much echo, all over produced, too many layers of track it could be any auto-tune non singer, then he is in a genre: Pervasive Generic Garbage Genre.

But someone said wisely upthread, he’s never let us down, yet. It’s true, he made everything he could out of his tour set. Why would he stop now?

Really, what are the odds of this many female engineers all ending up on an AI blog at the same time? It’s not like we’re a really large demographic. Is there something about Adam that particular appeals to women engineers?

Also – what is with all of us ME’s who moved into computers? I always thought that was “weird” path that I took! :) (Although, my husband is also an ME who is now in IT!)

Maybe this ties into the idea that one most appreciates Adam when you really pay attention … he appeals to those who like to “think”?

I don’t know. Engineering was not a field that many women went into many years ago. It could be that we identify with the idea of being true to yourself and taking a risk and going with it even when people roll their eyes at your choices.

he appeals to those who like to ‘think’

He does. And he has said many times that he is always thinking.

But one of his attractions, which we hope is showcased in Strut and all his music (hey, staying on topic), is that he whisks up over-thinkers, gets them out of their head, satisfies their thinking needs with all that quality talent, and then just lets them feel. So people who think get to have the rare pleasure of not thinking at all. They just feel.

    Think of the possibilities!

Adam descending a series of staircases from all around the world, each time dressed for the location.

Great idea, Buderschnookie. This may be a wan hope, but I would really like him to stay away from too much costume at the beginning. Some, yes, wonderful. But has to be mixed with style setter and handsome as well. Because in the short attention span of the ever shrinking and poorly informed music press, costume will make him Lord GaGa. Like thousands of years of theatre notwithstanding, she invented all performance art and makeup. And once he gets labelled that, it’s going to be hard to get the “imitation” and “Male, me, too” off.

Got me thinking about the Mick Jagger template. But I think that Adam already has a signature move. It’s the “strut” we’ve seen in WLL, combined with a wide stance, shifting his weight from side to side with a few suggestive thrusts thrown in. Shows up in the CTF video at @2:15-2:27 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJAdPSsFUhQ. After watching it again, his physical performance seems almost conservative to what we’ve seen on the AI tour.

    Kara DioGaurdi? Strut?

I think I found a short line from one of the verses:

‘A strut, a piece of wood, cut and milled to 2 inches by 4 inches, but to length and nailed into the framing if a house for support and I am feeling overwhelming emotions of anthemic empowerment comparable in some ways to scaling the highest mountains or fording the deepest streams.’

Catchy, isn’t it? You should hear the rest of the verse. With lyrics like Kara D writes, who needs melody? Oh well, it’ll save hard disc space when I delete this one from iTunes.

LOL! I LOVE your dry sense of humour HWC!!! The scary part is you might not be too far off on the lyrics :)

I just bought Muse, The Resistance. Awesome! If you get it from iTunes, they have this new iTunes Library format where you get all kinds of cool stuff, like a trippy background, photos, videos(!), song list, and credits. So I am thinking, maybe Adam’s album will be in this format? In any case, I can absolutely see why Adam loves this band, and I hope he includes a few songs like The Resistance. Someday, I can see him doing a concept album, ala Radiohead. For now, having heard a Christina Aguilera track on mix 104.1, home of Kris passes we can’t have, I have decided that Adam’s Strut must sound like one of her tracks. I have a feeling it will. And I am loving these threads more and more because I am learning so much about music and artists I was not familiar with. Oh, and yeah, we get to discuss Adam or Kris as well. ;)

I knew about ‘Come Home’ (would have killed for that), but I never heard that he had put in a request for ‘Crazy.’ (Considering homicide for that too ‘ ¦).

As far as I know, he didn’t request this one – that was just me hoping he chose something (like this) that he HAD done, and done well in performance before – and that would have been a more “risky surprise” for the audience and judges to see than “Cryin”.

HoppersSkippers – I was at the Verizon, DC show – I noticed the helium effect on SL, but the rest of his set sounded good. I am usually VERY picky about music (I’m a classical musician), but I’ll admit when it comes to something like an Adam performance, there are other things that take up my attention ;-) However, I do remember being very attentive to his voice, because I do have such high standards for him, more than anyone else on the show, and I was still very very impressed.

Also, not sure if this was in the thread when it went on the subject of engineers and sound, but just a little tidbit about that:

digital format music (like cds, mp3s, etc) will never be as pure as the ACTUAL singing voice – it is a reproduction of only PARTS of the soundwave that make up a person’s voice when it is recorded. An album recording (vinyl) is the ACTUAL soundwave, in its entirety, on the medium, so it is the purest form you can get of the person’s actual voice. However, it is also much more volatile as a format (gets scratches very easily, etc.) So a perfect vinyl album, played for the first time, would be the best sound.

Not sure if this even came up – but I always thought this point was fascinating – and any engineers in the house may as well ;-)

  • readon

This may not be the popular opinion, but I hope there is a least a couple of weeks before any of Adam’s songs hit the internet or the airwaves. Let Kris savor the moment. It would be nice for him to have the spotlight without having to share it with Adam.

Also, I don’t want Adam linked to the hip with Kris anymore. It’s time for the professional paths to diverge.

  • Maria22

As far as Adam’s favorite studio songs, Mad World actually made me cry and the long note in Feeling Good is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever heard musically (as my husband reminds me every time i point it out to him – I know, I know, you’ve only made me listen to that a hundred times)… I’m not crazy about Crying but love the rest, including NoBo.

  • Maria22

…and my favorite Adam performance (after the 38 second thing and CTF) is Crazy at the Arts for life benefit, his dancing is unbelievably sexy, especially when he is sitting on the chair…

I can concur with this statement, I am an artist and drawing and painting is done for my enjoyment first then if others like it – it gives credit to what you are doing and keeps you going to try to keep growing and to keep trying things outside your comfort zone
growing up with creative people it is always the same with everyone, as an artist you are never satisfied and always want to do bigger and better things.

And I would love to hear Adam cover ‘I Gotta Feeling’ .

MAZEL TOV! (Sorry, just had to say it ;-) )

I am also a bit worry about his performance style. I think he may be too ‘sexual’ for a lot of people.

I agree with some other posters that much of what we HEAR on the radio from Adam will not really be too sexualized, at least no more than what is usually on the radio ;-) .

However, I expect it to be high energy, and that it will lend itself to being performed (at least some of the tracks) in a more sexual manner (think studio WLL vs live tour WLL ;-) ) The studio version has great soaring vocals, but is hardly too OTT sexual. Just my take.

  • Mary102

So is there a way for digital music to record all the parts of a voice like vinyl does, but it’s too expensive/troublesome to do, or is it just a limitation of the format that can’t be changed?

Not sure about the details, but I think it’s probably a matter of compression – digital format is so compact, easy to transfer, easy to manipulate, lots of data in a small space – and so by default it would lose all those properties if they didn’t try to “skip” parts when converting sound into digital format. But I’m not sure, completely. I bet sound engineers are working at perfecting it – and they’d probably need a new medium to store the data (one not currently in use – like chrystals or gases (there’s some science that’s trying to use these elements to transfer information – see quantum computers for more info ;-) ) But I digress.

And I would’ve loved Wicked Games and Come Home.

Ideal pairing for Adam that week would have been “Wicked Games” as a quiet, understated uber sexy song, and then a high powered rock song to contrast and end the show on an energetic note.

Hi–just checking the daily Adam news after a busy day at work and saw this fun thread. No, you’re NOT the only one! When there was that whole, “which song is he supposed to sing?” dilemma going on, I was soooooooo hoping that the real choice was “Wicked Games.” It’s so incredibly sexy. While I appreciated the symbolic attributes of “One” as they related to Adam, I really thought “Wicked Games” would have showcased both his voice and super sexiness. I’m liking the title “Strut,” though, for his upcoming release. If it’s selected for the CD, I can just picture the awesomely provocative video that could be created for it!

  • CindyM

I think this “they” would rather stay on this thread, thanks.

I also would have loved to hear Adam do Wicked Game. Chris Isaak was one of my favorites, saw him in a small theater here and he was awesome. Hi anthrogeek! and Mary102, ! anthro, I was evoking your power when a discussion of ACIGC Zodiac version came up. I had to admit my ignorance to it until you showed me the light.

As a lover of “One,” I was excited when he was supposed to sing it, but I also think the live performance was too rushed, but flove the studio version. I had kind of O.D.ed on Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Games,” so I wasn’t totally sold on that. In retrospect, I think Adam would have made it his bitch.

God if we added up all these “if only-ies” … well, a. there’s no point and b. he would have won which isn’t what was meant to happen. But he WILL be needing filler for his first tour, so hopefully he’ll consider all of the above.

If you mean Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Game” I hoped for that all Idol season. Adam would have killed with that song.

But I would have also loved to hear Adam sing the Doors “Light My Fire”, the Stones “Brown Sugar”, “Foxy Lady”, “Good Vibrations”, “I Want You To Want Me” (yes I know it was a Cheap Trick song but Adamize it and it’s a great song), Queen’s “I Want It All”, and I could go on and on.

And I still wish Adam had gotten to sing “Dream On” instead of Danny ruining it!!

  • anthrogeek

‘ ¦and my favorite Adam performance (after the 38 second thing and CTF) is Crazy at the Arts for life benefit, his dancing is unbelievably sexy, especially when he is sitting on the chair’ ¦

OK, I’ll bite. I always wanted to say this, but this performance always reminded me of Richard Simmons, and it’s hard to get past it whenever I watch it. There’s three reasons for that – 1) those red stretch pants and tank top are classic RS gear!; 2) his hair is kinda tall and, from what I understand, covered in some kind of gold body paint, but the poor quality and distance of the video just makes it look like a RS-colored do… er, don’t; 3) it’s got some kind of barefoot/aerobic exercise vibe to it. If any one of those 3 factors had been different, thoughts of RS would never have entered my mind! (The “tune in, drop out” part doesn’t even sound like Adam’s voice, although the song itself does).

OK, I said it! Ironically, when alison8701 (I think it was her) said something in a recent concert thread about him looking like RS when he did the Bowie claps, I totally disagree in every way! For me, it’s ONLY this video, and ONLY for the reasons mentioned above.

  • greeneyedlady

Wow, 300+ comments based on a song title-LOL! Are we obsessed much? And sorry, no I won’t be going to the Kris thread. Now that the concerts are over, I will probably only have a passive interest in what Kris is doing, tho’ I wish him all success. It’s Adam who is likely to break new ground and that makes me excited for the possibilities.
As for Adam’s songs, his soaring notes on the studio versions of ROF and FG kill me every time- I can feel his voice right in my heart, somehow…
And def wish we could have heard Crazy on the show- I’ve listenened to him sing it about 17 million times on the YouTube vids.
BTW it’s great to see the familiar “faces” on this thread :)

Hi anthrogeek! and Mary102, ! anthro, I was evoking your power when a discussion of ACIGC Zodiac version came up. I had to admit my ignorance to it until you showed me the light.

Ha! Really, Susan M?? I did not see that in any of the threads, but I’m glad you enjoyed that!! I love it myself, even though he does at the end practically wear himself out getting through it. Love the mic throw-down with ‘tude at the end, too.

  • cayman

I agree with you greeneyedlady, obsessed for sure. Also will not be visiting Kris thread or any other idol thread, Adam is to me the only “ONE”. I have to find some time to clean this house, I told husband that the tour was over and now back to normal, little did I know you guys would all be here and Adam would still win over dusting and laundry! The guy is an addiction I gladly cave into.

    Absolutely beautifully said :)

  • anthrogeek

The thing with that performance, and I do credit anthrogeek and others for this, is that it is so empowering and the absolute indication of his ferocity. How he can be that OTT and still be alpha male in the process is just another indication of the endless parade of dizzying contradictions that are Adam.

OK, I see you now, Susan M! Yes, I agree, when I first discovered these OTT Zodiac vids at the beginning of my Adam obsession when they were just coming to light, I was somewhat shocked and wanted to hide them from the world until he got thru Idol, but then the more I grew to admire him, I came to understand the full depth and breadth of his amazing talents and all this stuff became perfectly normal Adam. For every wild Zodiac vid there was a sensitive Upright vid to counter it, and as long as he never abandons all those diverse sides of his personality without ever giving his own personality over to caricature, I’ll accept anything he wants to give me! Strut, baby!

No freak show here – just the Adam show, with freak flag flyin’, and I’ll be right there with him for every step… er, strut!!

  • hwc

An album recording (vinyl) is the ACTUAL soundwave, in its entirety, on the medium, so it is the purest form you can get of the person’s actual voice. However, it is also much more volatile as a format (gets scratches very easily, etc.) So a perfect vinyl album, played for the first time, would be the best sound.

That’s not true. There are very serious limitations to the LP format. The very limited dynamic range, the low-frequency filtering required to keep the needle from jumping out of the groove, the limited high frequency response, the errors introduced by the pre-emphasis de-emphasis filitering of the RIAA curve, and — above all — the gross errors and resonances and microphonic feedback introduced by any mechanical transducer. All you have to do is listen to the wild variations from turntable to turntable, tonearm to tonearm, and cartridge to cartridge to know that this was technology that never approached absolute fidelity. And, yes, I know what I’m talking about. I’ve used the best turntables, tonearms, and cartridges ever made, incluing the Linn Sondek, Linn Tonearm, and Linn cartridge and this 200 pound monster, the Thorens Reference (only 100 ever made, I worked for the US importer).

    http://www.higherfi.com/exoticphono/thorens_reference.jpg

It’s fine to point to the limitations of the CD format, but to suggest that mechanical turnatables and vinyl records are even close to faithful musical reproduction is romantic wishful thinking. I have actually come to believe that dynamic range is the single most important characteristic for accurate musical reproduction — the difference between the loudest and softest sounds that can be reproduced. Vinyl was only capable of about 60 dB dynamic range. CDs about 80dB. Dolby Digital about 105 db. Dolby Digital is capable of incredible live music reproduction.

LOL! I went over there :-) In fact, I was the special 100th poster – and I gave a special shout out to LUV along with it (hey, us Adam fans gotta look out for each other ;-) )

But now back here (sorry, Kris, but like you, the new song is mostly safe, sweet, but ultimately too bland for my tastes). So, do we know yet whether the 2012 track will be coming out BEFORE the album single, or after. And when for each?

And I still wish Adam had gotten to sing ‘Dream On’ instead of Danny ruining it!!

Oh yes , I was so uggh with the way my favorite song was butchered. The following week when Adam sang Cryin (my other fave) , I was like jumping and screaming, Come on Adam show Danny how its done … and cheering when Adam showed how to do Aerosmith right.

And to think Adam wanted to do Cryin’ first instead of Satisfaction but did not get clearance. Wow if he did Cryin’ first , the gradual burn of my Adam obsession would have been instant spontaneous combustion. Wildfire.
Somehow with Adam , the right timing of things seem to happen . It was better how things unfolded.

On this note – I still think his first movie track (2012), and his first single ( Strut or whatever) will unfold to create the right stepping stones to further his career.

  • Mary102

I understand what you’re saying here.

For me, it’s an interesting relationship with Adam and his oeuvre of work. I don’t LOVE everything he has done, and in fact, I am just fine with criticizing a lot of it, and a lot of his choices (particularly of the more OTT variety). I do, however, greatly admire his response in the face of critics when he says he likes to shock, to surprise, to startle, and maybe even to anger. He wants to make a statement and have some people hate it, some people love it – at least they’re FEELING something for it (which I think, in a nutshell, encapsulates his run on idol – RoF may be the best example – you either loved it or hated it, but at least you felt something about it.)

WRT his Zodiac performances and how they may influence his future work ‘“ my take is that Adam will HAVE to compromise to sell records and make a successful career. He is no longer an obscure singer who pops up on youtube every now and then. I think, as others have noted, that he has already grown tremendously as an artist and performer, now making much more subtle, nuanced, and thoughtful decisions about his music (the tour definitely indicated that).

With the guidance of his label, who similarly want to sell records and make lots of money, I hope they’ll find that happy medium between letting Adam still be Adam, but attracting a much larger audience. And if he can bring that larger audience over into his world of OTT awesomeness and hyper-sexuality, well, that’s all the better :-)

Not sure about the details, but I think it’s probably a matter of compression ‘“ digital format is so compact, easy to transfer, easy to manipulate, lots of data in a small space ‘“ and so by default it would lose all those properties if they didn’t try to ‘skip’ parts when converting sound into digital format.

There is no compression in a CD. It’s an uncompressed, lossless digital audio stream of about 1400 kbps compared to a compressed MP3 ranging from 64 kpbs to 256 kbps.

The limitations of the CD format are it’s sampling rate (44khz) and 16 bit digital resolution. Dolby Digital samples at 48 khz and is capable of 24 bit resolution, although it uses a compression algorithm (actually similar to Apple iTunes) for smaller file sizes (and the ability to use it with broadcast TV — it’s the standard audio format for HDTV). There are DVD-audio discs with uncompressed 24 bit, 96khz sampling rate audio. That’s as close to perfect as you’ll ever hear.

Really, what are the odds of this many female engineers all ending up on an AI blog at the same time? It’s not like we’re a really large demographic. Is there something about Adam that particular appeals to women engineers?

I don’t know. Engineering was not a field that many women went into many years ago. It could be that we identify with the idea of being true to yourself and taking a risk and going with it even when people roll their eyes at your choices.

I am an attorney by training – left the practice a long time ago, it wasn’t what I was meant to do – seems to me that there are other mj posters who are not engineers but are trained in a profession.
Of course Adam appeals to us – we love thinking! as well as being those who were willing to go into relatively uncharted waters at the time and do what we wanted in spite of the times.

I will also say, though, that the poster above (sorry, I just don’t have the energy to scroll up and find it) who said that Adam took us out of ourselves to just experience and not think – ITA. I love anyone who can stop the brain madness and pull me back enough to just feel. That’s what really good sex is – no thoughts of anything else, just being in the moment, totally experiencing it, brain on “pause”.

And Adam can do that. Maybe that is what people meant when the term “adamgasm” was coined.

  • Mary102

    Oh, Mary102′ ¦. sigh’ ¦. you complete me’ ¦.

    Aww, LOL!

Can an Architect join this party…I seem to be outnumbered by all the engineers. And, I’ve had jury duty today and am trying to catch up on the thread and I can’t read as fast as you guys comment.

I think the mention of Strut was a nice way for Adam to control the “hate” (for want of a better term) that seemed to spew towards Kara after the NoBo fiasco. I think Adam is super loyal to people who have and are helping him out as he is testing the waters. So this was his way of letting people know that he harbors no ill will to Kara for her ill advised song.

It will be interesting to see if that song ends up on the album and if it makes it to a single release.

By his very nature Adam is just OTT as a regular guy. He sees the world through a rainbow of bright colors…nothing black and white in Adam’s world as far as I can tell.

As he moves forward I think we are going to see the “freak side” of Adam more and more, as he and his fans and his listening audience accepts that is who he is. And, interestingly enough, I don’t think I’ve read a single negative comment from anyone concerning his very “theatrical” make-up on the last tour show. More than anyone I’ve seen he can get away with it…probably because it doesn’t feminize him like that kind of make-up does for many men. And I’m not saying that Adam is a manly man…nope he embraces his feminine side too much for that and yet, for me, it is never off-putting in any way. Hilarious and overdone at times but it never makes me cringe.

Even though I am overly optimistic about Adam’s future, I do balance it with a hard dose of reality and an even heavier dose of 19 interference. But, for me, I think he will be successful, but probably not the biggest noise on radio. His bread and butter will definitely be his tours and his performances.

Sorry for the disjointed post….a boatload of aspirin after being cooped up in a courtroom all day.

Listening to Adam song’s and “Is anybody listening came up. This song made me think about the Brian May comment on “soaring vocals”. He has not sung like this in a long time. Imagine soaring vocals like this song with classic rock.

Also, the song that follows this in my playlist is “Sweet Disposition”, the Temper Trap. I believe that someone suggested that Adam’s sound could be like this. I don’t know if Adam’s sound will ever be like this, but I just want to thank the person that clued me in to this track. I love it.

Trust me, I know the analog/digital debate. I was on the front lines of that debate in it’s heyday in the 1980s. I was a sales manager and marketing manager for the US importer of one of the best turnatable brands in the world. Want me to argue the analog side? I can do that.

One of the things that really fueled the debate was the early days of simply taking old masters and transferring them to digital. The recording technology of the 1970s was so geared towards dealing with the limitation of vinyl that the masters sounded terrible — all the bass had to filtered out, audio compression applied reduce dynamic range, etc. Plus, there was a lot of learning to do on analog to digital and digital to analog converters, and so forth. A lot of myths grew up surrounding the bad sound of the first generation CDs, when the culprit really had more to do with llawed recordings.

Tess, re: your comments above regarding theatrical make-up, I totally agree and meant to include this earlier. At the beginning of this year if anyone had told me I’d soon find a gay guy wearing full eye make-up sexy as hell and still masculine I’d have said they were NUTS, but it’s true, it’s just the icing on the cake that is Adam, and I can’t imagine it, nor would I want it, any other way!

What’s causing this issue? Well, we’re not sure and apparently Twitter is not either. Twitter Platform Lead Alex Payne has already tweeted about the situation:

‘Many people in my timeline suddenly have default user icons. This is probably not intentional. I have inquired with colleagues.’

I learn WAY TOO MUCH on this blog. I tell you, it’s like going through a multi-discipline, entertaining-as-hell graduate-level program. I can relate to the engineers as a thinking woman, but I’m completely the other end of the spectrum. I went to film school in a screenwriting program. I haven’t had to take math since 10th grade. But as a journalist, I have to cover every subject under the sun and I’m so glad I’ve broadened my music industry base knowledge.

Very true. It’s his confidence and self-awareness, imo, that make it all so natural. Very few people could pull off what he does ‘“ but for him it just works.

THIS ^^^ And I was thinking about this on my long drive home from work. But I think the key is with Adam is his unabashed enthusiasm for EVERYTHING. He is such an amalgam of contradictions. With his fierce performance style, ridiculous talent and hair/makeup/nail polish/wardrobe predispositions, he seems like he would be a jaded, too cool for it all archetype. But he’s exactly the opposite. He’s a kid in a candy story about everything, as evidenced in the Zodiac vid.

That’s what’s so freakin’ endearing. He lights up like Times Square when he talks about anything that excites him. What soul on the planet is so jaded that they are not moved by that? THIS is what is going to make him a game-changer.

Lady GaGa: No one knows anything about her and that’s the mystique she wants to portray. Okay, fine. But Adam can be every bit as fierce on stage, but once he’s done, he has that infectious enthusiasm that could melt stone.

  • Teri63

I totally know what you mean. When I found out about the cellcast of the very first concert in Portland(?), I remember telling my family that I would listen to that one show, but that I didn’t expect I’d be following along on each and every one. Well, around the same time, I discovered MJ’s and quickly learned how much fun combining the visual with the auditory could be. To summarize, I think I only missed about five concerts total. It was a great (albeit domestically unproductive) summer, and, with this first word of a possible song on Adam’s new album, I’m expecting the fall and winter will also prove to be exciting.

    Mary:

LOL. Have no fear. I love vintage cars, vintage motorcycles, and vintage audio! A lot of my favorite new artists regularly release their stuff on collector’s edition vinyl.

BTW, the rap on CDs is that they only take a “snapshot” of the waveform 44,000 times per second, in the same way that digital photograph in a high quality fashion magazine is really just 300 dots (or pixels) per inch. So, a CD is a “connect the dots” drawing with just 44,000 dots for each second of music. Analog is a continuous waveform instread of a connect the dots picture. It doesn’t necessarily bear any resemblence to the original peformance (it can’t), but it is continuous.

[snerk] As long as he doesn’t scramble his brains like Cocker, he’ll be doing well.

  • Mary102

I totally know what you mean. When I found out about the cellcast of the very first concert in Portland(?), I remember telling my family that I would listen to that one show, but that I didn’t expect I’d be following along on each and every one.

LOL! That was SO me all summer. I had so many things I was planning to do this summer – read more books, write some…how did none of that get done? Oh, that’s right – following idol like a new religion. Or maybe more appropriately following Adam like a new religion – you know we’re practically one step away from it already ;-)

Yes – I love this explanation of him! He really is so many different things at once, and fully embracing each one. His tour set was incredibly diverse, channeling all those different moods and styles, and yet he pulled each one off with such conviction, passion, and confidence that each one just jumped off the stage and grabbed the audience. He had that ability.

Going back to the album, I think that’s why we’ve had so many debates about what his album might bring. It sounds like Adam is definitely working toward a very unified feel (he’s constantly repeating the dance, fun, sexy vibe of it) – but at the same time, you know we’re going to get bits of other influences as well, simply because he himself seems to be drawn to and excited by so many (the old classic rock, the new electro-dance style, etc.)

  • Susan M.

Way to lay on the guilt trip, Maria22! Now I feel horrible, and can only hope that, since you’re the only one who commented, it escaped notice enough to not leave a trail of scarred eyeballs in its wake!

Not exactly. But then again, I’ve always had a tough time reconciling the “Crazy” Adam. I think it’s mainly the blond hair. He just looks soooo different. The wardrobe is yes, effeminate and OTT in the context of AI. He looks like a completely different person, but there’s no mistaking his voice.

I hope I can beat back the Simmons imagery. I think I can. I was feeling it a little when Alison first said it about Bowie, but I got over it because I truly don’t find the move aerobic instructor-y. And believe me, I’ve taken my fair share of aerobics classes.

  • sidewalkstory

I will never let the though of Richard S get in my head while I am watching Adam. What is in my head about that video is when he waves his arm 3 times and says you, you, you. That is what is in my head. yesssss.

The bare feet thing — have you never seen modern dance? And the more Adam has off, the better. I had a boyfriend when I was young that used to love to rub feet before we fell asleep. It’s a sweet remembrance. So Richard S does not = bare feet either.

  • Mary102

BTW, the rap on CDs is that they only take a ‘snapshot’ of the waveform 44,000 times per second, in the same way that digital photograph in a high quality fashion magazine is really just 300 dots (or pixels) per inch. So, a CD is a ‘connect the dots’ drawing with just 44,000 dots for each second of music. Analog is a continuous waveform instread of a connect the dots picture. It doesn’t necessarily bear any resemblence to the original peformance (it can’t), but it is continuous.

hwc, you know, in a way, I think we were actually saying similar things (albeit mine was a much more dumbed down, less technical version ;-) ) because this sounds very similar to what I was originally thinking – that is, that analog is capturing MORE soundwave than the chunks of it that digital is recording, but, for all intents and purposes, digital is still often preferred because:

    1. Analog degrades easily
    2. Analog requires more expensive/sophisticated equipment to take full advantage of the recording
    3. Human ears can’t really hear the “missing chunks” in the digital sound.

So, yeah – I only read once about the analog vs digital issue – and that is the extent of the knowledge I have – everything else was pure conjecture.

But if you wanna talk classical music or accounting, I’m all over that ;-)

  • tiger92

    1) those red stretch pants and tank top are classic RS gear!;

Oh honey, RS did not look ANYTHING like Adam did in those pants!

Luv: Sorry, already did my wish the other guy good luck in the 1st thread. (with the 20 sec. snippet) Now that damn “Macarena” song is stuck in my head. I posted in support of the “no one will know it’s a cover” discussion. That’s all the energy I have for Kris.

Strangely, I care more about what Danny and Michael are going to do. I’m not planning on buying their cds as I’m not into country music right now. They won me over during the tour, so I’m just curious about what their future holds. Allison is someone I’m watching also.

No freak show here-just the Adam show, with freak flag flyin’, and I’ll be right there, with him for every step,…er strut!

And don’t forget to add with the ‘freak flag flyin’”….a ‘flaming headdress’!!

I was wondering if the final concert thread is official retired now? I can’t seem to find it.

  • anthrogeek

think it’s mainly the blond hair. He just looks soooo different.

Yeah, I thought it was blond for awhile, but then read somewhere that he was covered in gold body makeup/glitter or something, which extended into his hair. Makes sense because I don’t recall ever seeing any photos of his hair that color around that time period (all other blond pics were much earlier). It’s just hard to see the gold because of the confluence of distance, harsh lighting, and overexposure, all resulting in loss of detail in the videos. I have not seen any close-up photos of this outift (“getup”?), either, and haven’t been able to verify.

  • HoppersSkippersMiners

    Musing while digesting comments…

hwc: I have actually come to believe that dynamic range is the single most important characteristic for accurate musical reproduction ‘” the difference between the loudest and softest sounds that can be reproduced. Vinyl was only capable of about 60 dB dynamic range. CDs about 80dB. Dolby Digital about 105 db. Dolby Digital is capable of incredible live music reproduction.

I believe the Dolby Digital part – hell any really good movie theater shows the awesomeness of that format. However, one of the things that always annoyed me about CDs IS the paltriness of the dynamic range. Most of my CD recordings come out more dynamically flat to my ears vs the stuff I have on vinyl.

Although that may come down to the difference in the types of music I have on vinyl vs cd…. Maybe also differences in current versus older production values? Slate had a very interesting article a number of months back on how modern classical recordings have changed as compared to a few decades ago…

I’m just messing with you ‘anthrogeek’ all is forgiven, those chair moves in the video are soooo sexy, having taken lots and lots of dance classes in years past, I LOVE how smooth he is (the chair, the arm ‘you, and you and you’) even covered with gold powder and wearing sweat pants…Hmm….time to watch the video again to make sure….

  • http://www.wholisticbirthways.net austinmidwife

I said I was going to stay away, but I just couldn’t. I’m so seriously, happily addicted to this compelling human being that is Adam, that all I have to do is see a little blurb on him, and I’m off!!

anthrogeek and mary, I just love you two and pretty much agree with about everything ya’ll say, so I won’t repeat it all or re-word what you have said. Except for the RS comparison over the “Crazy” performance…yeah, sigh, I see it too. Oh well, his voice makes up for it.

I saw, for the first time today, his Zodiac Show Change is Gonna Come performance thanks to one of you ladies. I loved it!! All those feathers and glitter! And that Crawl Through Fire vid with the conversations about lighting his hair on fire. Hee! Too good.

So yeah, I kept hoping that with the end of tour I would get things done around here, but alas, now I find a thread totally devoted to Adam, on mj’s with my favorite cyber-space friends. This is too tempting to resist.

And I have no intention of commenting on Kris’s threads. I think his fans have heard quite enough from us.

Wow! You’re right, anthrogeek! That’s one of the things that didn’t make sense to me, but I couldn’t put my finger on it. It didn’t seem all that old, but when did he have a chance to grow his hair out so completely? It did give me some indication of what he looks like with his natural hair color.

Yes ‘“ I love this explanation of him! He really is so many different things at once, and fully embracing each one. Mary102, I wrote a similar post on a site before I discovered MJ’s. As I recall, someone was asking what was so sexy about Adam and I said it was all his contradictions that somehow make perfect sense. I don’t remember exactly what it was, but the gist was:

He’s young and old. He’s dark and light. He’s male and female. He’s fiercely confident, yet profoundly vulnerable. He’s exceptionally talented, yet has had to work for everything he has. He’s classically trained, yet avant garde. He’s in your face, but disarmingly polite. He’s otherworldly, yet down to earth … I could totally go on, but you get the idea.

Oh my, I leave for awhile and Richard Simmons arrives. WTF?!

I almost hate to admit this but I actually know Richard Simmons, and although he is very nice, he is nothing like Adam. I mean there is NO similarity. NONE. These two people do not belong in the same sentence.

And if someone knows an aerobics instructor who is like Adam, please point me in that direction. It might inspire me to work out more.

  • http://www.wholisticbirthways.net austinmidwife

So I posted this over at Little Angie’s re-cap, but that thread is already very quiet and I wanted to share this here because, well, i just wanted to so here it is:

I do feel like Adam brought in viewers who never watch AI. Over and over and over, from people on this blog, people on other sites, comments made after certain articles, I read people’s shock and surprise at themselves that they were actually watching this cheesy show and really loving it. Loving Adam, even though it was just because they happened to turn on the TV when they were ironing, or sick in bed, or just killing time and caught Adam singing and they just felt compelled to watch.

I think we saw between 50-100 people de-lurk on this site alone on the last concert night and over the last two days, almost all of them Adam fans. It’s just crazy really! What is it about him that is so compelling? I guess we’ll find out when his album drops if he remains compelling, or if it was just his voice on all those wonderful songs that strike those familiar chords in us that has been so compelling.

I believe it is him, his voice, his intensity that takes us to that place of passion within ourselves that makes us so happy, so willing to sacrifice time to comment on a blog, hunt the internet for information, miss sleep for the first concert video of the night, stay up late to opine on a cool blog with a bunch of fun people.”

And I am noticing tonight that it seems that this is what we are talking about and trying to define for ourselves.

Plus, we’re all jonesing for new music, now!

The reason I asked if the thread was still open was because flashus was going to post on it today the name of the Freddie Mercury biography talking about songs Freddie wrote before he died if he could locate it. So please let me know ‘flashus’ if you happen to be on this thread. Thanks.

Sorry MJ if I’m off topic.

Nope, just a big picture or I’d bring it over. Go to the Adam Without Pity site. Then go to the main board-a couple of pages back. (pg. 48)

    http://adamwithoutpity.com/index.php

Oh, THAT one! Funny, I saw that for the first time in one of those miscellaneous videos someone made and wondered what it was from. This, and the Zodiac thing, must have occurred when he already knew he made it to Idol, even though Hollywood Week hadn’t happened yet. I swear he’s so freakin’ creative, coming up with all these costume ideas! I can never come up with anything to save my life from witches and goblins!

Also, when he’s “topless” (sounds more appropriate than “shirtless”), he seems to have the physique of a 12-year old boy… hey, just sayin’! I don’t make the news, I just report it!

  • LindaG23

I have been trying to catch up with this thread and haven’t gotten all the way through but I just wanted to add my name to the engineering women, petroleum class of ’80 and there were only two of us. Maybe Adam appeals to us because of his power and confidence or it could be as straightforward as he sings the hell out a song. Anyway going back upthread to catch up…

  • anthrogeek

Adam will never be so follicly (how do you spell that?) challenged that he’ll need a REAL bad perm to compensate.

True, that is, as long as we keep him AWAY from the Flaming Headresses!!!!! No Michael Jackson accidents allowed or encouraged!

  • Susan M.

@austinmidwife, you’re right. Of course, the long-timers will tell us it’s always this way, but I have a hard time believing it’s THIS major. But no point debating it, time will tell.

Well, I’ll find out soon enough. I may have to go (sort of) cold turkey this weekend. I’ll be in *sigh* Adam’s hometown and am booked solid. I’m taking my sister and she already thinks I’m a little crazy (doesn’t know WHAT she’s missing) and a friend who (swear) said Scott was her favorite this season on AI.*shakes head*

I don’t know what we’ll have to talk about … j/k, they’re a lot of fun, but c’mon, how can they possibly be oblivious to all the conversation fodder that is Adam?

  • Q3

Plus, we’re all jonesing for new music, now!

You bet! I feel like Luv with her timeclock — counting down the days until we get new Adam music. 3 or 4 weeks more!! Will I survive? I guess so. I guess it will fly by and then we should finally get album promo appearances!!

And these little teases of info aren’t making it any easier. The RS article inspired me to go back and listen to a lot of T. Rex and Depeche Mode, which just makes me want this album even more. It’s a vicious, vicious cycle!!

  • anthrogeek

I don’t know WHAT we’ll have to talk about ‘ ¦ j/k, they’re a lot of fun, but c’mon, how can they possibly be oblivious to all the conversation fodder that is Adam?

Wow. Well, Susan M, all I can say is that this weekend you’ll be in our hearts and prayers and when real life becomes unbearable and you start to view your once-loved sister and friend as ignorant louts representative of the Great Unwashed, we’ll welcome you back with open arms….

“I don’t know WHAT we’ll have to talk about ‘ ¦ j/k, they’re a lot of fun, but c’mon, how can they possibly be oblivious to all the conversation fodder that is Adam?”

Has your sister seen the videos? I’d start her slow, you know TOMT, then Satisfaction, MW. this is what I have doing from time to time. I’ll have a good friend over and casually mention this great new singer and suddenly my laptop is open and I carefully select Adam videos from my iTunes and You Tube collection and start the show. It’s been fairly successful.

Well, Adam is inspirational. In search of something that can quell the aching for a powerful soulful intense performance that might remind me of Adam( or take my mind off him), I have delved into my Zeppelin collection, Queen, Guns n Roses, listening to a little Muse, Kelly C and Melissa Etheridge. It’s the passion I’m after, I guess.

  • Bowie1

Well, good night all……..as she fades away mumbling ‘I won’t let Richard Simmons imagery into my head, I won’t let Richard Simmons imagery into my head’!

  • Susan M.

Has your sister seen the videos? I’d start her slow, you know TOMT, then Satisfaction, MW. this is what I have doing from time to time.

Believe me, I’ve tried. I sent her a bunch of links about 3/4 of the way through the season and she was excited to watch, but then didn’t get around to it. And I tried to get her to play them while I was there, but she was doing a hundred other things and said, “Oh just cue them up and I’ll watch in the morning.” Which I did and she said the page wasn’t there when she looked. I was beginning to sense some resistance.

BUT I have more tricks in my arsenal. I’m driving and I have my Adam CD at the ready. She’s a sucker for JCS, so I’ll just casually put on “Heaven on Their Minds” and the Temple of Arts version of “The Prayer” comes right after. If she’s not hooked by then, I’m at a loss … I love her to death, but she has almost NO interest in pop culture. Do. Not. Get.

ETA: Well, need to get to bed. Hi and bye, adamaloha, who I’m guessing we’ll be seeing soon. I’ll check back when my 3:00 a.m. insomnia kicks in.

I see it, too. That can’t be coincidence. I’m fearing they’re shutting down their twitters. Boo!

Don’t despair, I’m reading comments that it’s not just them. There are a bunch of people who lost their twitter pictures’ ¦some kind of twitter glitch. It’s weird, because of you look at Kris’s page and who he is following, Adam’s twitter picture shows up’ ¦not a birdie.

Twitter did some kind of upgrade today, adding more art work to decorate your pages with, and are tightening the rules and trying to get a lid on the “spam” stuff. I got an email regarding that today. But, I think it caused some sort of glitch and like some people my home page need to be set back to the original pics.

So, hoping that is the reason and that Adam will still send out his tweets (his are never twats).

  • anthrogeek

In search of something that can quell the aching for a powerful soulful intense performance that might remind me of Adam( or take my mind off him),

I can’t listen to anyone else right now because I just want him to reinterpret everything for me. Actually, my favorite genres are classic R&B and ol’ skool funk, which he doesn’t really do, but a lot of the songs from the show that I never would have voluntarily listened to he made fresh and new for me (Born to be Wild?? Uh, no, been there, didn’t wanna do it again until he made me hear it for the “first” time).

That’s why I have great hope for his new stuff. Songs that might have been bland or tame sung by anyone else will be Adamized to within an inch of their lives, and whatever may be lacking in the recorded versions will be more than compensated for in subsequent “live”/TV performances!
