Adam Lambert – Idolatry Interview

Entertainment Weekly’s Michael Slezak works his typical interview magic with Adam Lambert. Check it out.

  • star

I need there to be five more parts to this.

  • http://justaddbooks.blogspot.com/ maree

I agree! It was fantastic, but just not long enough. It felt more like they were just hanging out, than a Q and A. Tis my favourite interview so far, and I will (somewhat shamefully) admit that I will probably go back and watch it again. And then again. You know.
My favourite moment was the second part when Adam went “Shy?” … sigh ….. I thought I had fangirl love before …

  • jlc

I need there to be five more parts to this.

    Exactly!!

Slezak has got to be the best interviewer ever. I suppose its because he follows the show so closely and is very invested, but still. He’s so articulate and so is Adam which makes the interview so pleasing to listen to.

I do wish he would have addressed the “bottom 2′” night and asked Adam why he chose a “side”. Since Ryan missed the boat on that one, my last hope was Slezak.

I love Adam’s sense of humor and as far as I’m concerned, he and David Cook are the two coolest Idols ever–which is very intimidating because they are both way cooler than me! :cool1_tb:

After he interviews Kris, I really hope he does a “Kradam” interview–it would be the perfect icing on the Idolatry cake.

ETA: Thanks for posting all the vids this morning, MJ (Kris on Fallon, Kris & Adam “Us”, etc.)–a perfect way to enjoy my coffee this morn & start my day!

  • agathe.hb

my favorite moments were when he spoke about Simmons, and when he talked about his costume – that he got some part of it from the drag queen, smiling suggestively at the same time – he made similar face when he was talking about “top bunk bed” – he has wicked sense of humor :)

  • http://www.irish-wolfhounds.com Buderschnookie

    Perfection!

  • Lemon_C

M — “And you didn’t shy away from that at all…”
    A — “Shy? :-/”

ROFLMAO. Adam LamB is sassy and fearless. HA! Gotta love him.
He appears “softer” when he’s with Kris. no? At least I didn’t know he was so fierce.

  • http://stores.ebay.com/BookWomanBlues-Book-Nook Bobbi

Adam’s birth city was just the question/answer on Regis and Kelly’s trivia game today and the person they called got it right! So they’re off to St Lucia! He brings good luck to others, doesn’t he? ;)

  • ettacandy

Love this interview! LOVE IT! Adam is much more relaxed, here. I think we’re seeing more and more of his wicked sense of humor as the post-Idol days wear on. And he’s just so intelligent, and educated, about the business side. His analysis of what to do next, and why, was very interesting to hear. He is very aware of branding, marketing, etc. Much more than a pretty face, there! I’m impressed; I know Adam didn’t go to college but is very intelligent, and has taken the initiative to learn about business.

And also – Slezak should have a TV show. At minimum, he should teach TV personalities how to interview. He does a really good job, in every interview, in allowing each person to be themselves.

  • Tess

I think I’m finally understanding why I have such a fixation on Mr. Adam Lambert and why he appeals to me so much.

Adam GET’S IT. He knows that he isn’t every one’s cup of tea and he doesn’t care. He knows that he may be a hard pill for some to swallow and he doesn’t care. He knows he’s pretty savy, he knows he’s quick witted, he knows that there are people that think he is attractive, he knows he has talent, he knows that he’s smart. And the knowing isn’t an egotistical thing…it’s a realistic thing. And since there is no false modesty about Adam the rest of us don’t feel uncomfortable.

What did Shakespeare say: (by way of Hamlet)
This above all: to thine own self be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man.

Adam as stupid and trite as this sounds and I will probably get a million verbal lashings…you are a prince.

  • Ellie2

Love that we’re seeing Adam’s sense of humor more now that the show is over. He is great with the sarcastic comment, always delivering it with that wicked smile. I loved his comment about Gene Simmons’s singing. LMAO! Slezak is so great at making people comfortable and just letting them talk. I agree with whoever said we need five more parts to this interview!

  • Valentin432

    Idolatry season 8 > Idolatry season 7.
Anoop, Matt, Allison and Adam interviews were all really enjoyable.

  • Sunn

Awesome! awesome! Awesome! Interview. Slezak is so good at putting the person in front of him at ease, today I saw a side of Adam I’ve never seen before… ” Adam the regular guy chatting with a friend”. We saw witty Adam, friendly Adam, confident Adam, analytical Adam, slightly cocky and yes even sarcastic with a definite bitchy edge that I absolutely love Adam ( the Gene Simmons remark) all ensconced in an innocently cherubic demeanor that is so very charming. Kudos to Michael Slezak for an amazing interview.

Adam, What can I say about Adam that has not been said by me and many other a million times? The word fabulous does not do him justice. He is, to me, awe inspiring.

  • honowoowoo

This was not only Slezak’s best interview, this was THE best post idol interview period! My gazillionth time watching this interview … never enough of Adam! An amazing young man! Thanks again mjs!

  • kate09

In the past few days, Adam has addressed, in his own clever way, Gene Simmons’ comments, the O’Reilly segment, & Clay Aiken’s comments & he’s done it all without seeming combative…he’s not pretending he doesn’t care – he really doesn’t, & that’s fabulous.

Great interview. I doubt in my lifetime I’ll see a performer so certain of who he is & what he wants & so able to handle the insanity that comes with fame. The icing on the cake is that he is so, so talented & he deserves every bit of fame & fortune that comes his way.

  • kate09

Oh & LOVED his glee over getting to sing “I wanna give you every inch of my love” on national TV.

I feel for the contestants on Idol next year b/c I fear they will be ‘not Adam.’

  • Ellie2

You know, for all the people who have ragged on Adam (Perez, I’m looking at you) for “not coming out of the closet,” I give you all Adam’s post-Idol interviews, but specifically this one with Slezak. Adam isn’t ashamed of who he is and he’s not hiding a damn thing. I doubt the boy’s been in the closet a single day of his life. But he’s also not going to give people the satisfaction of defining himself with three words (“I am gay”). I say, more power to you, Adam!

  • mahrikka

What a perfect way to start the morning. I know my smile will last through the work day as I remember bits and parts of this interview. Win, win for both Adam and Michael. Thank you, MJ, Adam and Michael!

  • unique28v

Thats awesome that Adam encouraged Kris to do heartless. He really is a good person with a good heart.

This interview was really good. I love the fact that Adam is so “if you don’t like it buy his album instead”. LOL Its so rare to find people nowadays that love themselves for who they are.

I have such a good vibe about his album. Its going to be great!!

  • kate09

Ellie2 – You’re right…Adam is not trying to hide anything. He threw in the comment about the drag queen all on his own! I think he gets a kick out of the media (& Perez, whose mission in life is to ‘out’ people it seems) running around trying to catch him saying “I am gay.” Adam is clearly comfortable with who he is, & that’s all that matters.

  • unique28v

Adam GETà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢S IT. He knows that he isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t every oneà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s cup of tea and he doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t care. He knows that he may be a hard pill for some to swallow and he doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t care. And the knowing isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t an egotistical thingà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a realistic thing.

    YES!!

  • kate09

Also, I sometimes watch O’Reilly but I must say I lost some respect for him when he did the segment on Adam. I am certain O’Reilly doesn’t watch Idol & I also thought it was odd that he showed the pics, but cut them off so you couldn’t actually see the kissing. Weird. Like Adam said, the two ladies dismissed the idea that the pics should have any effect on Adam’s Idol run…not sure which two were on w/O’Reilly that night, but they’re all pretty conservative. I am sure Adam has the same effect on them that he does on most all women :)

  • abbysee

I love Adam Lambert. He’s so smart, so quick, so shy, lol! He is just such a joy to watch. I think everyone needs a little Adam in their lives. I will come back and watch all five parts of this again. Classic Slezak as well. I didn’t really fall for him until this season, but it’s been a pleasure to get to know these contestants through Michael’s eyes. I love that he is a fan of the show and not too cool for the room.

I am glad to see that Adam isn’t full of himself, and that he knows that he is an acquired taste. I mean my first reaction was that he was either crazy mad, or crazy talented. So glad to find out it’s a hilarious mix of both.

As for the closet crap, my brother was gay. He never came out because he was never in. If people wonder about Adam, I guess they are waiting for an invitation to a party that is already going on. Missed the boat, catch the next one maybe? I also love that Adam is exploding the myth of the swishy, girly, gay guy. He’s flirty, sexy, and unambiguously MALE. That is why women are attracted to him, and it’s nothing new to him.

His ;parents must be very proud of him. He’s such a well rounded human being. I love how he was embraced by most of the group, and how he embraced them. He put out some good karma. And we all know Adam’s mojo is powerful.

  • saga

Seems Perez is really after Adam lately. He comes off a bit childish… (Perez that is)

  • Ladybug

    ^What abbysee said.

    And.

Unquestionably the BEST Adam interview. Period. Case closed.

Remarks above, and what Adam said in the actual interview say it all.

    What a remarkable guy.

  • adamlover

and my adam obsession continues. not only is he one of the most talented singers, ever, but he just makes me smile from beginning to end.

it was a great interview, and i agree too short. but, i could watch him sing and talk for hours..his songs and interviews are always too short for me.

he knows who he is, what he wants, and i think he has the talent and the brains to accomplish whatever he sets his sights on.

  • ross

I also love that Adam is exploding the myth of the swishy, girly, gay guy. Heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s flirty, sexy, and unambiguously MALE. That is why women are attracted to him, and ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s nothing new to him.

Not sure why a swishy, girly gay guy can’t also be sexy (or flirty, for that matter). Just saying.

  • unique28v

I notice Adam verbally admitted he wants to go international. We’ve heard Simon say Adam could, but I don’t think he’s said it himself. He may be the first Idol contestant to have that in mind before going into the studio.

  • soccerboi

I cannot believe how much I love this guy. He doesn’t take himself too seriously and is really very funny. I still do not understand how he didn’t win but whatever.
This may be the best Idoltry video ever! Just outstanding!

I love that a drag queen got him his Kiss outfit…bwuhahahaha

  • unique28v

Seems Perez is really after Adam lately. He comes off a bit childishà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

Eh. Perez is just jealous. Adam isn’t behaving the way he wants him to so he’s pouting like a little 2 year old.

  • EllieA

Oh, and I love how he didn’t give a politically correct, “let’s try to please everybody,” answer when asked about Ring of Fire. He’s smart enough to know that the people who truly hated RoF probably aren’t going to become huge Adam Lambert fans so he’s not going to waste time trying to talk them into it. He is who he is, he gives the performances he wants to give, and he’s totally fine if not everybody loves it or gets it. Makes it all the sweeter for those of us who do.

  • downeast

    BEST.ADAM.INTERVIEW.EVER.

    Bravo, Slezak!!!!

It doesn’t bother me that he didn’t go Kradam. They’ve both had to talk about each other non-stop since results night, and I’m sure Slezak will extend the same courtesy to Kris.

  • lovecert

Yeah! to Adam getting the restaurant treatment from Slezak and Co.

  • misha

    ” I thought I had fangirl love before à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦”

This interview was fantastic! How lucky are we that he decided to audition for American Idol. Adam is not only an amazing enterianer, he is also quick witted, self assured, beautiful and very funny. Thank you MJ, this is something that I will swoon over time and again.

  • Thea

I also love that Adam is exploding the myth of the swishy, girly, gay guy. Heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s flirty, sexy, and unambiguously MALE. That is why women are attracted to him, and ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s nothing new to him.

Yes, well said. I find it fascinating that this particular human being (Adam) has this rediculous sex appeal on EVERYONE, men and women alike. Straight men feel his sexiness, and women, albeit well aware of having no chance, still swoon over him. It’s a very rare quality, and it has to do with charisma, personality, and the sexiness of his music. Amazing. It sure will help in making him a superstar.

  • Pixie Baker

I so enjoyed this! I watched early this morning and I still have a smile on my face.
He certainly covered about everything….every conspiracy theory….every speculation…and boy were we really off base on so many levels. We have spent countless hours discussing things that really are not true. I guess he reads the blogs…he even rolled his eyes several times! I LOVED it!
I hope the world is at his finger tips now…somehow I think it is!

  • mandalay

Since Adam wants his album to include many different styles of music AND since he’s been told he could sing the phone book and sound good.

Album title: Adam Lambert Does the Phone Book – lol

  • Thea

I notice Adam verbally admitted he wants to go international. Weà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve heard Simon say Adam could, but I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s said it himself. He may be the first Idol contestant to have that in mind before going into the studio.

Eh, eh, eh… the boy is smart. Why limiting yourself to the US when you can rule the world? Real superstars are global.
Plus, I sometimes smile when I hear this kind of comment, as if going international required very different qualities. Yes, some acts are more “local” than others. For example, you’ll never be able to sell much country music outside the US. But rock?!? Rock is global!
Most of the best music crosses borders very easily… we are much more similar to each other than people seem to realize. *insert here a “Kradam style” world peace symbol*

  • suebrody

That was a terrific interview (you go, Slezak!) I, too, could have listened to five more segments and not been bored (because he wasn’t boxed in, which was refreshing). Adam held nothing back. He was totally honest (“I’m an artist AND an entrepreneur), and I don’t know if I have ever heard an Idol say that before (strategist–yes; entrepreneur, no). He knew what he wanted to do, he knew this was a platform, and he did his thing. He is so talented that he could be incredibly creative and bold and enough of the public would be interested or entertained (or some much more–me!) that he could take risks that no Idol has probably been. My sister called me this morning to tell me Adam was on The Today Show, as did a friend–heh heh, I was already taping it–and she said, Well, if he had done Mad World more often, he might have won. Which shows that she doesn’t get it, and Adam probably doesn’t care. He can show so many sides of his artistic vision that he will continue to do so because he he has the talent and the charisma. And the fact that he is accepted internationally pretty much says it all. This guy is going to be a superstar, and I glad we get to be along for the journey. Kudos, Adam!

  • hwc

Don’t forget that Adam made the Zodiac Show connections when they were touring together in a European touring show of Hair. Two of his band members in Citizen Vein were in Madonna’s band for the Confessions world tour. And, he has some connections to Euro techno mix producers. I think he understands that his act will play better outside the US. And, if he didn’t understand that before the American Idol voting, he certainly does now.

  • calimari

I just have to say that the more I watch the interviews the more I love Adam. I mean, he’s been the one to watch all season for me, but just as a person – he really is ALL THAT. Gotta whole lot of love for him…

  • unique28v

Eh, eh, ehà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ the boy is smart. Why limiting yourself to the US when you can rule the world? Real superstars are global.

Of course Adam is smart. I never said he wasn’t. LOL The point I was making is that Adam is the first idol contestant (in my opinion) who is going to actively try to be an international star. I think he should!

  • Ellie2

I think he understands that his act will play better outside the US

That implies, to me, that his “act” won’t play as well within the United States and I totally disagree. I think Adam is going to be huge here AND globally. That’s the definition of superstar and I 100% believe Adam is going to be one.

  • lbisandypaws2

Fantastic interview! Adam is so real, so talented, so exciting, and so positive! I had the opportunity to see him in NYC on Tuesday in a very small setting at Fox. He lights up a room and has that star magnetism. On top of all of that, he is gorgeous! I am a married mother of 2 and a grandmother. He is a great role model for us all! My 3 year old granddaughter saw my picture with Adam. His hand was over my shoulder and she noticed his nail polish. She wondered why he was wearing nail polish. I told her that some men wear nail polish and that it was o.k. if they did. Wow, I didn’t know Adam would be helping me teach values to my grandchildren! Beautiful person, Adam, and wonderful interview by Michael Slezak. Can we love Adam any more??

  • JazzRocks

I didn’t think I could love him any more than I did on the show. But guess what. The more I see & hear him the more respect and admiration (and yes, love) I have for him. He just has it all. What a super-great interview!

  • glamadamfan

I love, love, love this guy, Adam Lambert. This is the very best interview ever and I’m beaming having watched it. Adam’s so unabashedly cute, self-confident, innocent, and sexy all wrapped up into one that comes across so well. I’ve personally never seen anyone capable of pulling this off before, but it’s just who he is, so he’s being true to himself, not acting. He knowingly makes little hints about his sexuality and what the media has been yakking about without giving a thing away and just teasing all of them. His comment about “Did you hear him [Gene Simmons] sing on the show?” was awesome. He was saying Gene couldn’t sing, but then he took back control by saying “He was great.” How incredibly brilliant. He knows he made that KISS performance and outsang those guys by a mile, but he doesn’t want to come across as smug. He totally took Slezak aback when he asked the question, leaving him flustered, then answered the question before Slezak could respond, in a way that Slezak was not prepared for. What a master of the situation Adam truly is. I could watch him talk, move, and listen to him sing for hours and I’d never be bored. He is able to push things right to the edge, but bring them back because he’s such a genuinely nice person. Other people could learn a lot about how to be interviewed by watching Adam. Bravo Slezak for the best interview ever.

  • stoplurking

    Tess, I so agree:

Adam GETà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢S IT. He knows that he isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t every oneà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s cup of tea and he doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t care. He knows that he may be a hard pill for some to swallow and he doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t care. He knows heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s pretty savy, he knows heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s quick witted, he knows that there are people that think he is attractive, he knows he has talent, he knows that heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s smart. And since there is no false modesty about Adam the rest of us donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t feel uncomfortable.

I love this interview and I wanted it to go on for a lot longer!

  • smokeyvera

I love reading the threads and see many of you comment over and over again. Definitely a great family and gives me a lot of chuckles. But I notice that ELEPHANT1212 always seems to know stuff that nobody else does. Many have asked the question, who are you? I have come to the conclusion, based on the interview with Adam where he says there is an elephant in the room, and pink to boot, that Adam is ELEPHANT1212, first/second place. Kris even said he knew Slezak and Idolatry and mj. Who would pass this info onto him except Adam. Adam also seems to understand the power he has on everyone. If it’s not Adam, then it is someone close to Adam passing info. The most recent being him at being at Hair and now RS magazine after gaga. Has Elephant1212 identified him/herself?

  • SpenserJ

    that Adam is ELEPHANT1212,

For the last week, Kris and Adam have probably been operating on 3 hours sleep per night. I do not think the post-AI press tour, etc. would allow time for Adam to be doing much internet posting.

  • cwg509

Kudos to Slezak. I think this is the closest we have gotten to really knowing Adam. He seemed totally relaxed, forthright, and honest about everything, and showed more of the sly sense of humor that was missing on the show. He’s absolutely seen and read most of what is out there on the internet (and past Idolatry videos= love!) I love how he tries to say nice things about people whenever possible, but is not afraid to put down the haters in the most sneakily subversive way. That takes skill!

He’s smart, knowledgeable, focused, and savvy about his career options now. It’s going to be awesome for him.

and he’ll have fantastic outfits in his really cool house in LA

  • http://myspace.com/susanatfox sumidol

Perfection, you said it Buder. I cannot put into words just how amazing Adam is to listen to, sing or speak, he does both well. Loved the “shy” Me? Awwww I am so glad that AI brought this guy to us this year. Interviewers dream, I have not seen any other Idol contestant who can hold a candle to him in the interviewing department, none.

  • unique28v

That implies, to me, that his à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“actà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ wonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t play as well within the United States and I totally disagree. I think Adam is going to be huge here AND globally. Thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s the definition of superstar and I 100% believe Adam is going to be one.

Yes. I think he will be big here too. The crowds and interviewers react to him. Even Michael Slezak looks at Adam in awe and as he said Adam for the most part wasn’t his cup of tea.

Adam’s “A Change is Gonna Come” is the number 1 single in Canada right now so he’s on his way to being a global superstar.

  • mar

I LOVE Slezak for this. He brought out soo many new things to love about Adam… his media and business savvy in particular impressed me.
The Johnny Cash comment was SPOT ON and the Gene Simmons comeback was soo subtle and witty.
I love that he’s not giving any bland, overly diplomatic answers as a lot of Idol alumns do. And I love how self-aware he is (“I’m a little ridiculous”! LOL)
He really has EVERYTHING going for him.

  • unique28v

You know what? I think Elephant might be legit, and Adam will be on the cover of RS. For those of you who have twitter, look what Ryan Seacrest just twittered:

RyanSeacrest: What up adam and kris! crushing it on the today show! Btw adam will address the sexuality speculation soon. They are both superstars!

  • Tess

Btw adam will address the sexuality speculation soon.

This just cracks me up!!! I guess there are a lot of people who aren’t satisfied until someone in the mystery novel says: “And the killer is”. All of Adam’s clues have been so friggin obvious….the man is an open book about everything.

  • Thea

How funny would it be if he “came out” saying he’s straight as an arrow?!? LOL that would be hilarious.
The thing is: no one really cares! No one I know anyway… ;)

  • stoplurking

I also love that he mentioned that he’s also a businessman, he needs to make money as this is his job. I like that he’s smart about that.

The whole he should come out already is pretty funny to me since he’s never been in. But it seems like most people need the whole magazine cover and a tagline, “I’m gay”. I hope that in the future a singer/actor/etc’s sexual orientation isn’t such a big issue anymore.

  • mishebe

This is the Best interview with Adam. Loved it. mishelle

  • kate09

I hope when/if Adam ‘addresses’ the sexuality issue, he basically says what he’s said all along…I know who I am, I am comfortable & happy with myself, so stop pestering me…

I would also love it if he said he was straight…that would drive the media bonkers!

  • hwc

That implies, to me, that his à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“actà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ wonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t play as well within the United States

We already know that from the voting. I’ve watched enough Idol to know that, like his style or not, Adam is the most dominant contestant in the history of American Idol. The fact that he lost, and lost big according to some reports, strongly suggests that his act doesn’t play well with large segments of the American market. This doesn’t mean that Adam can’t enjoy some success in the US market, but I think he’s smart to target an international audience.

  • unique28v

How funny would it be if he à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“came outà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ saying heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s straight as an arrow?!?

Thats what my mom and I said. I would laugh my socks off… literally…. LOL

  • hwc

Btw adam will address the sexuality speculation soon.

Seacrest needs to twitter again and let us know when HE is going to “address the sexuality speculation”.

  • season8fan

Announcing his sexuality in Rolling Stone is another entrepreneurial move. I bet he’ll get paid the big bucks for that interview! My question is how can he say he didn’t see this as a competition yet but so strategic? Is that just to appeal to his likability?

This was an incredible interview. Slezak asked the true questions that the fans want to know and you can tell Adam really enjoyed it. I am so glad that he didn’t have to talk about Kris and that he could just be himself.

  • hyelady47

couldn’t wait to see this interview. i was glad to see adam being so honest, truthful, and still humble. he didn’t seem to sugar coat his answers like so many other “hovering ai producers please give neutral answers” interviews.
thanx michael, but i thought your wonderful sidekick would’ve been there to drool over adam.
    great job.

  • kate09

hwc – LMAO about Seacrest. He has a major mancrush on Adam!

  • JP

I appreciate Adam’s intelligence and humor as much as his vocal ability. It’s pretty obvious to me what his sexual orientation is – why does he have to make a formal announcement? Are people really that blockheaded? I would think that there are enough people out there who don’t care if their favorite musicians are gay or straight that Adam will have a stellar career. I mean c’mon on. Gays are everywhere in the entertainment industry. What’s the big effin’ deal???

  • http://myspace.com/susanatfox sumidol

This doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t mean that Adam canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t enjoy some success in the US market, but I think heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s smart to target an international audience.”””

Um, no, this does not suggest he will not do well in the US, itunes sales say differently and not to start beating the dead horse again, who says and who cares how much he lost by? He will do well in the US and internationally, well, I sure think so.

  • Layla

Its official. I love Adam as much as love Cookie. Never saw that coming, but this interview just pushed it over the edge for me. And Slezak :clap_tb:

Wow! Just WOW! What an interview. I am almost struck dumb as to all kinds of awesome Adam is. He’s purty, intelligent, savvy, kind, bitchy, snarky, sexy, well-dressed and well-shod, witty, funny and just oh so freakin charming.

    Adam FTMFW!!!!

  • unique28v

I”m assuming this is the “Adam” thread so I should be safe to ask this question. lol did anyone see Adam on the Mike & Juliet Show this Morning??

  • Cheetara86

aww, I love the adison love…

I also love seeing his bitchy side come out, makes him even hotter.

  • Thea

Fashion moment: Adam, drop the white jacket already, we’ve seen too much of it. I know you have little time to change between interviews but still!

  • unique28v

My question is how can he say he didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t see this as a competition yet but so strategic? Is that just to appeal to his likability?

I think Adam looked at American Idol as an opportunity to expose himself to not only the public but to the industry who watches the show. Its like a big audition to the recording companies. The show has been on for 8 years now, and we all know that having the title isn’t enough to have a successful music career. Thats what I think Adam meant by that. He saw opportunity rather than “title”/competition.

  • mmb

Seriously — why does Adam have to “confirm” or comment on his sexuality? He is, obviously, unambiguously gay. I mean, everyone has seen that I have boobs, have been pregnant, etc. Do I have to confirm that I am a woman? He could not be more out in the open….

  • Tony

Adam makes for damn good interview. Very entertaining and insightful.

Still can’t stand him singing, though.

  • karenw

How funny would it be if he à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“came outà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ saying heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s straight as an arrow?!?

    lol … and a virgin.

That was a great interview, thanks for posting the link. He’s so charismatic. I love his honesty and how quick witted he is .. and I love his snark .. somehow he can get away with it and it comes across as funny and not bitchy in a nasty way.

  • sleeptalker

Love Slezak’s interviews. I feel like the show doesn’t give us the opportunity to know enough about the contestants’ personalities, so he helps bring them out. Look at how much people like Megan, Anoop, Matt, and especially Allison bloomed during the interviews. The same is true for Adam, and I REALLY hope the same goes for Kris.

Thought it was great that Adam talks about using his kinds of music for people to dance to and feel sexy. Adam is all about having fun and being who you are, and wants his music to bring that out in people as well.

Also, I’m expecting an electro-dance-pop mix of Boot Scoot Boogie on Adam’s album. ;)

  • karenw

That’s how I read it too. His strategy was to get himself the most exposure he could and to show people everything he could do (all the different sides of him as a performer) .. it wasn’t about him beating anyone or wanting to stay another week as that meant he was one step nearer to winning, it was about him being able to be there to have another week to show what else he can do.

  • moneeamin

I think Michael Slezak brings out the best in all the contestants. The questions are always carefully thought out and not at all what everyone else is asking. Adam comes across as intelligent and self-aware, much the way his performances did on the Idol stage. He is witty and sarcastic and I think the media is going to continue to eat it up as he moves towards his debut album.

  • weareallinnocent

This just cracks me up!!! I guess there are a lot of people who arenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t satisfied until someone in the mystery novel says: à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“And the killer isà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ .

    LMAO, I know, right?!

In RS, he should say, “I love people. All people. Not in a so-called godly or ungodly way, just love, although sometimes in the biblical way, as I too am human. I am who I am.” That should clear it up! :-)

Its official. I love Adam as much as love Cookie. Never saw that coming, but this interview just pushed it over the edge for me.

I’m so glad someone else admitted this. All along I’ve felt I loved them both the same, just differently. Sort of like a mom loves all her kids. But, in the back of my mind/heart, I’ve always held to the notion that Cook is special. And, he is. :-) But, so is Adam. And, hearing him talk, and his killer wit (and friendly daggers for his OTT detractors like Clay and Simmons) … yup over the edge. It’s so nice too to have two such witty, fun, talented men to watch and enjoy — one for each and every mood, David does alt, grunge, rock, and heart, and Adam can do those, along with everything else. LOL The bonus? Both wear guyliner!

Oh and some of my fav parts of this interview — the looks he gives at various times. His eyes tell it all, imo! Go Adam~

  • kijico3

BEST INTERVIEW EVER!! someone help me please….there are beds to be made, laundry to be washed, dishes in the sink, a dirty kitchen floor to be scrubbed, yada yada, and I can’t tear myself away from the awesomeness that is Adam!!!!!

  • Dr. Tracey

I want more dammit, 5 segments wasn’t enough.
One of the best Idolatry’s this season.

  • SpenserJ

All of Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s clues have been so friggin obviousà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.the man is an open book about everything.

So true. I’m not sure what people are waiting for. Should he start every interview off with “Hi, I’m Gay”? I don’t know what closet people think he’s hiding in, unless it’s the one with all of his “costumes”, “outfits” and “exciting jackets” he’s always talking about.

Not to mention of course that it really has nothing to do with what an audience can expect from him or the kind of music he’ll make. So, I really just don’t think it’s a relevant topic for his post-AI tv appearances.

  • Ellie2

This just cracks me up!!! I guess there are a lot of people who arenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t satisfied until someone in the mystery novel says: à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“And the killer isà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ . I think Adam finds it hilarious, too. You know he has to be cracking up about it. How much more obvious can he make it? Do people REALLY still have a question about this? Do they live under rocks? Are they mentally challenged? Do they need him to draw them a diagram? What?

Does anyone know – in Canada is the itunes chart the same thing as in the U.S. – i.e. is it a North American chart?

Someone mentioned the Change is going to come is #1 in Canada – which chart??

  • anna in vegas

Totally agree karenw. Week after week I watched just to see what other type music he could knock out than the week before. I had previously given up on Idol this year until my daughter told me i “just had to see this great singer” who had just performed Satisfaction. I watched the following week and voila, here I am with the rest of you, lol.

  • SpenserJ

Someone mentioned the Change is going to come is #1 in Canada – which chart??

The link is in that post at the top of this page (page 2). Interestingly, Kris’s “What’s Going On” is also number 2. So, they have the top 2 singles spots on this chart. It looks to be a Canada only Soundscan chart. But, I do not know much about this kind of stuff.

  • http://www.irish-wolfhounds.com Buderschnookie

So true. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not sure what people are waiting for. Should he start every interview off with à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Hi, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m Gayà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ?

At some point I think he should.

Every damn interview, meeting, sound bite, phone call, and room entrance. Wear the t-shirt and rock the rainbow socks for good measure.

At some point the world will collectively yell “we don’t give a crap” and then at that point it might finally be over.
    :rolleyes_tb:

  • iluvai

This interview was fantastic!!!! But I’m glad that there aren’t 5 more parts, because I need my life back. Ha ha!!!! The clips of Adam’s performances were great– brought me right back to those moments. Adam is the most amazing performer and singer and he is so funny too!!!! Adam just do your thing baby! You are amazing..

  • kate09

    Ellie2 – I would like him to draw me a diagram…tee hee

I would prefer him to say nothing, b/c he shouldn’t have to & in a way I feel like if he does, the media wins…like they smoked him out of the closet. However, he’s really never been in a closet & this whole upheaval over him shows that as a society, we’re all pretty much still in jr. high.

Whatever, as long as my insane need for all things Adam continues to be met, I’m cool.

  • weareallinnocent

Thea, Thea: Just finished watching Adam on Mike & Juliet and he was wearing his black Cavalli with white shirt/black tie and looked absolutely fabulous! I also like him in the white, just about anything. You must admit he was the most fashionable contestant ever on Idol? (Should I not mention anything about Kris’ ever-constant white v-neck tee shirts, lol)

Hehe! That’s a perfect analogy (and also fits how I watched the last few weeks of the show – coming to this blog first on Tuesdays and Wednesdays before actually watching the show, ‘cuz I couldn’t wait to find out what happened). I too think Adam has been totally obvious, without actually saying The Words. I knew the first time I saw him on the show. Maybe I just have a good Gaydar but I thought it was so obvious, so it’s been really amusing to me all these weeks reading the “OMG what?! Are you serious??” and “No WAY!” comments. At any rate, it’s totally irrelevant to me – all I care about is his fantastic voice, how amazing he is as an entertainer, and how fun, mature and savvy he comes across in interviews. I’ve borrowed/stolen a comment I saw on ‘tube, whenever I see him looking particularly fabulous: “Well hel-LO, PACKAGE!” rofl :lol_tb:

  • downeast

You must admit he was the most fashionable contestant ever on Idol?

Also, may I just say…clearly one of the hottest, if not THE hottest. Cookie is a great singer, great guy and a smart one…and of course YMMV, but he always looked like my high school English teacher to me.

    But Adam…OMG.

  • JenG

He’s hilarious. Like the dude’s singing or not, he’s seems to be a really good person.

I would totally love to see the outtakes from this interview. I bet they’re amazing!

  • JenG

Fashion moment: Adam, drop the white jacket already, weà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve seen too much of it. I know you have little time to change between interviews but still!

That’s because they’re taping interviews and show spots in advance, this was probably shot on Mon/Tue. I’m pretty sure their days are non-stop. There’s no way Kris and Adam are paying any attention to when which interviews end up on air.

And nobody, but the few thousand of us who are watching every single interview that comes out, probably even notices.

  • BootStar

I loved Idolatry last year, but this year’s was just in a different league. Can the EW folks start producing Idol? They do a MUCH better job editing, and their staff is vastly more entertaining than Idol’s.

I said it in an earlier thread, but Adam is just so impressively comfortable in his own skin. What is not to love about this guy? As somebody said up-thread, the word “fabulous” doesn’t do him justice.

LOL! Yeah, right after I wrote that I thought, “Hmmm…well maybe a diagram would be a good idea. Or better yet, close-up photographs.” Honestly, my mind is just stuck in the Adam-gutter.

  • isisdagmar

“Even Michael Slezak looks at Adam in awe and as he said Adam for the most part wasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t his cup of tea.”

He actually completely changed his tune on that after Tracks of My Tears–after that, he was hoping for an Adam/Allison final two, and Kris, Allison, and Adam were his favorites.

I love his honesty and how quick witted he is .. and I love his snark .. somehow he can get away with it and it comes across as funny and not bitchy in a nasty way.

Isn’t that great?! I think it’s because if he says something a little snippy or sarcastic, it is followed by laughter, which takes the sting out of the comment. I do the same thing – I have a tendency to be very sarcastic at times; one of my oldest friends pointed out once that I was the only person he knew who could shred someone with sarcasm, but because I burst into laughter immediately afterwards, the person is unable to get mad because it’s evident that there is no malice behind the comments.

kate09, that was a fabulous interview!! Today is too good. First we get the fantastic Slezak video interview and then the bestweek print one! Adam was hilarious in the bestweek one, too, and oh man, I want the tour to be over so he can dish. I’m glad he just flat out admitted there were people he didn’t get along with in the house. And that RS cover is so a reality. Squeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

P.S. Holy crap on her steering him towards the Kradam slash. You know he’s going to go read it. God…Kris will just *die* when he gets wind of it. LMAO!

The change is gonna come was a great song with a great message plus I got to wear a cool tie

  • cookmerized

what has happened to me? i promised, swore, nearly bet the kids’ lives on the fact that I wouldn’t become a crazy fan again this season. Cookie took all I had last year and I had nothing left for this year’s group. Fast forward 5 months and I’m on my second hour of watching Adam videos. That Slezak stuff was pure brilliance. Best Idolatry ever. I love Adam. And that Best Week Ever recap captures the very best of Adam. He’s smart, well spoken, funny, modest, sexy, sensitive. I want to hang out with him. And Cookie. I feel so conflicted.

  • star

Thanks for the link to the Best Week Ever interview! He’s so lying about the Kradam fanfic though. Neil supposedly emailed him some, lol.

  • kate09

star – I would pay money to hear Adam & Kris discuss the Kradam stuff…don’t know how much of it they’ve had time to read, but their reaction to it would be priceless. I bet they think it’s awesome (& yes, a little weird, but still awesome).

  • unique28v

I never heard of best week ever but that was great. I’ll have to catch the tv interview tomorrow might.

  • jpfan

Not that it’s a big deal but “Change is Going to Come” is nowhere near the top of the iTunes Canada chart. Maybe it charted high right after the finale but that bounce is gone. Other Adam and Kris songs are doing fine but neither has the #1 spot.

  • LaTasha

I’m still fangirling over the fact that he actually used the word ‘nebulous’ in an interview…

  • IdolThoughts

After seeing this and TBWE interview…I just want to curl up on the couch with Adam…put on a face mask, paint our nails and giggle all night long. He is so much fun…so funny…so smart and brave. I just love his humor and his savvy, snarkiness. Brilliant. I want to be his BFF…where can I get an application?

  • erinnthered

    Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m still fangirling over the fact that he actually used the word à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹nebulousà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ in an interviewà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

Not exactly fangirling here, but I always freak out a little when someone says something in an interview that I was thinking. Especially if they use the same words/ wording. That was a very nebulous theme week indeed. I’m happy to hear his explanation of PTFMWB, and I respect the choice a lot more, but I still believe it was the wrong one. His mileage clearly varies, but for that I love him.

Great interview! He’s a very articulate and down to Earth guy. This also give me both gives me more hope and increases my trepidation for his album. I’m hoping he does go in that Ghostland Observatory/ MGMT direction, and it sounds like that’s what he’s intending. I’m worried about all this talk of multiple genres on one album. It doesn’t work. Ever.

He should find the direction he’s feeling at the moment and run with it. Use another direction on the next one, but sampler style albums aren’t good. You can have a couple of good singles off of them, but the album sales always go flat fast. People do still like to just listen to a CD all the way through. Don’t encourage people to skip songs. If he really like to put on a show, give a whole show on the album instead of just a bunch of one-acts.

I dunno about that. In Adam’s case, I think it *would/will* work. If anyone can make it happen, Adam can. I am convinced of this because I’ve been listening to my ‘tube playlist (which contains everything from “Is Anybody Listening” to a dance remix of “Mad World” to his Citizen Vein tracks) every day for about two months now (on ‘random’), and I love the variety. I for one have been fervently crossing my fingers from day one, that his album is a mixture of styles and genres. Or, it should be a box set of at least 4 discs – one CD for each genre. That would work for me too.

Oh and some of my fav parts of this interview à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ the looks he gives at various times. His eyes tell it all, imo!

OMG, I know. I often have to rewind and watch parts again to catch the look on the others’ faces because I’m concentrating on watching him. His facial expressions are priceless. The look he had on his face with the “I like the top” interview and the look with the “Did you hear [Gene Simmons] on the show? He was great.” had me ROLLING. I FLOVE the snarky, bitchy side of Adam. Like someone else said, he manages to be snarky while still being witty. And that’s priceless.

As pj said earlier, I’d love to hear his snark when the cameras AREN’T rolling. Heh. Adam, will you be my bff?? :)

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m worried about all this talk of multiple genres on one album. It doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t work. Ever.

Yeah, I agree with this. I can see having a little bit of a different sound to each song, kind of, like Kelly’s “All I Ever Wanted” (which imo, is fantastic and both star and I have been saying for ages that he should make that type of record), but it all needs to fit and be cohesive. Not that every song needs to be an all out, balls-to-the-wall rock song, or that every song need to be a sensitive ballad. There’s definitely room for both. But it needs to be cohesive. Jumping from funk, to rock, to sensitive emo guy, to electronic, to whatever can make for a disjointed album. And like you said… yield a couple of hit singles but not sell the album as a whole.

Honestly, the way he’s described it so far makes me think of Lady Gaga meets P!nk meets Katy Perry meets Kelly Clarkson… but in male form. Which is actually the kind of album I’ve been saying all along that he needs to make. (Not kidding! Go back and find my posts! lol ;))

Also, Slezak = love. His interviews with the contestants this season have been fantastic. As others have said, he really brings out the best in them and his questions are well thought out and really get some great responses… and the things we WANT to hear. I don’t always agree with him on the show and everything, but I do like his writing and enjoy reading him every week. Idolatry this season has been fantastic. Especially these last few weeks.

(also, shout out to Kristen Baldwin, who is fucking fantastic and the sole reason I will be watching The Bachelorette this summer, just so I can read her snarky and fabulous recaps. Heh.)

  • IdolThoughts

Actually multiple genres in one album is done all the time… Muse, White Stripes, Beck, Kings of Leon…they all put out records with different sounding songs on them. I totally think that he could pull it off. He has already demonstrated that he can sing different genres…isn’t that what Idol is all about? ;-) I can’t wait to hear and see what he puts out. Yay!

Thanks EW.com /Slezak for the great and very insightful interview. All of us out here in Asia are enjoying reading and knowing more about Adam.

Isn’t it great that someone so talented can also be so intelligent and so focused on the business side of the industry. When a career is managed in a clever entrepreneurial way , this results in excellent brand merchandising. This is good to know because this will usually translates into longevity. And we really would like to have a long term music experience with Adam Lambert.

Here is something we also read about Adam : From an article written by Steve Friess of Las Vegas Weekly dated May 28.

” But, says you, Lambert didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t even win the competition.

Except he did. Lambert lost not because he doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t have star quality but because he already has too much. This is an unusual figure, a performer of great ambition and artistry and shtick. Unusual figures are by definition polarizing. Others who would never have won popularity contests: Madonna, Amy Winehouse and David Bowie.

The only surprise, then, is that someone this challenging amassed as big a following as he had to be a finalist. Kris may have won the election last week, but Adam netted far more devotees. ”

Steve Friess , Las Vegas Weekly May 28

And thanks to MJSBIGBLOG : Many of us here who are working in Asia ( our network of friends are in Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Philippines, Shanghai ) do not normally go into the blogs. But we found this blog and commend you for your coverage of very worthy entertainment news development. And we also commend you for your wrap ups. A credible voice for us. We have high respect for your opinions. Even if sometimes we do not agree.

Congratulations. Thank you very much. I think this discussion about American Idol Season 8 is over for us . We are moving on to focus on the respective career of our selected artist.

As Adam says in Idolatry – if you do not like it, go buy the other guys’ music.

    Hey Adam we bought yours.

[barney voice]Haaaaave you met Ghostland Observatory?[/barney voice]

Also, Slezak = love. His interviews with the contestants this season have been fantastic. As others have said, he really brings out the best in them and his questions are well thought out and really get some great responsesà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ and the things we WANT to hear. I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t always agree with him on the show and everything, but I do like his writing and enjoy reading him every week. Idolatry this season has been fantastic. Especially these last few weeks.

    This.

Well, Slezak and I have been on the same page pretty much this season, but that’s not always the case. Whatever his opinion, what you said here is always true!

For those of you with computer know-how, is there a way for me to download the Idolatry interview to my ipod. Yes, I’m that much of a fantard….

For those who enjoyed Slezaks videos, check out this new blog up at EW:

Adam Lambert: A role model? Really?

This guy Markovitz is getting slammed BIG time over this article.

Slezak really does the best interviews with the Idol contestants and it’s because he gets it!!!! Adam does great interviews and he is intelligent and it reflects in these interviews. My fave interviews so far have been Anoop,Allison, and Adam’s. Then again they were my favorites on the show also. Anoop and Adam are intelligent and diplomatic and Allison is just way too cute and full of life!

I don’t get this hype around Adam’s sexuality. He is an amazing artist and thats all that matters!!

Btw I found it interesting that he said there is someone in the house he didnt get along with…my guess is Gokey..

  • GlamGirlLee

Snarky BE______TCH! Bring out the glam claws my Adam boy! The likes of Clay, Gene should think twice before attacking this boy’s vocals. Heh.

  • listen

Finally got a chance to listen to all five parts, and I LOVED IT. Just a really solid interview: made me laugh, smile, sigh, shake my head, laugh out loud, giggle, and so on and so forth…

Adam, what more can we say about you or to you or for you, except you have us all just waiting in anticipation for what comes next.

Really looking forward to your album. :thumbup_tb:

I just luv Adam for his confidence which you don’t always see in a new artist. His remark “go buy the other guy’s album” and “I am nice! I AM – yeah!”

He will go far with this confidence, his glorious talent, his business knowledge, adorable good looks, etc. and we are all lucky to be here for his ride. :surrender_tb:

Hello? His friendster page states that he’s an “openly gay man.” Is anyone really shocked? He is a beautiful, precious man and I adore him! His profile states at that time he was in a relationship with that Brad guy and he said he was really happy. I hope he finds true love again.

I have read the comments of Adam’s brother and I think that he really did not get along with Sarver,
somebody has mentioned somwhere, maybe here, that during the Larry King interview, when Sarver was talking, Adam never turned around….

  • missmisty

That’s true, he didn’t. I got the impression he didn’t care much for Scott, either.

    negativeneil.com is Adam’s brother’s website.

  • agathe.hb
