According to FOX LA, backstage after last night’s Idol results show, Kara DioGuardi was in tears after Allison Iraheta’s elimination, Daughtry has a cameo, and mentor Slash endorses Adam Lambert for the win. Although he did twitter the following a few hours ago:

Alison didn’t deserve to be voted off AI so soon, she has amazing potential

The Top 3, Adam Lambert, Danny Gokey and Kris Allen are way excited for their hometown visits:

He was dead on with that comment, oh well life goes on, cant wait for next Tuesday! :thumbup_tb:

Of course Slash is going to endorse Adam, he is the only one besides Allison that fits the rock genre’. Danny and Kris appeared awkward in their mentoring sessions and I’m sure from his perspective they weren’t up to the rock week task. Each mentor has their opinion based on their expertise, means very little actually. And people aren’t voted off because they “deserve” to be, or vice versa. It becomes a popularity contest and the more devoted the fans are to one particular contestant determines their ultimate fate. Most years on AI, the best usually ends up winning, the order of the runners up is always bandied around for a difference of opinion, but in the end the public usually gets it right, history has told us.

  • Tess

but in the end the public usually gets it right, history has told us.

This would be so nice if it were truly true. The “public” is notorious for getting it totally wrong. And not just on AI.

I remember this former President of the United States who fits the “totally wrong” part…. Thus, sadly Tess is right.

I am speaking of AI, not politics. The public got it right with David Cook, it seems, Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Jordan over Blake for sure. Admittedly, they missed it with Hicks and Studdard, considering the successes of those voted off before them. And Fantasia has done pretty well. But it’s an arguable opinion, I admit that.

I hope they enjoy their homecomings. They could probably all use a boost right about now.

If you liked any of these three, if they entertained you the most on the show, then to that person the public got it right, who CARES what they make after the show – as long as they entertain us while they are on it, I dont vote for future potential but the here and now but thats just me

  • hicksaholic

AI is a performing, singing, entertaining, personality contest. All the winners are the ones that America thought deserved to win based on those criteria. If it was a contest to find the best recording artist there should be audio performances only and only certain “popular” genres featured on the show.

Sorry, I get a little touchy on the constant “America got it wrong” with Taylor.

  • jodeb

Allison went as far as she could go on a weirdly slanted boys year. I say weirdly because the idea of Michael Sarver beating out Alexis Grace for the tour is simply *weird* IMO.

Allison received no pre-hype before the actual beginning of the competiton. As a matter of fact, if not for the great work of MJ and her videos, we never would have even seen Allison’s auditon.

The girl has tremendous talent plus lots of guts to stand there and hear that she isn’t likeable from Simon and she has no personality again from Simon, and almost the worst, she was told to *BEG* from Simon. Maybe that works with dogs, Simon, but to tell that to a barely 17 year old sweet girl was repulsive. I guess the show might go down in ratings if Simon left, but since I’m neither a sadist or a masochist, I would welcome his chair being replaced.

Boo Simon, YOU ARE NOT LIKEABLE!!!!!

  • Allison

Allison was great, and I am not looking forward to next week and the inevitable Adam/Danny finale with any enthusiasm.

Allison went as far as she could go on a weirdly slanted boys year.

Maybe the public figgers that Adam can substitute as both?

  • AC

I always knew that Kara loved Allison since she always mentioned in interviews that she wanted to work with her. Also, she was the only judge who thought she could be in the finals and would stick up for her (like last week). The only person left who doesn’t have a judge backing them up is Kris! =( I really want my Kris/Adam finale! Kris is my favorite and I know he doesn’t have a chance against Adam but I still want those 2 in the end!

  • tommy

I did not mean to make this a referendum on Taylor Hicks. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, obviously. I respect those that are “Hickaholics”, I am not but that is cool. I was strictly speaking of professional verifiable success, which is measured in CD sales,or box office receipts, or ratings, etc. I am sure Taylor is happy and successful in his own right, and I am sure he has a long career ahead of him and he may be a smash someday – look at Jennifer Hudson, it took her a few years. And he definitely “deserved” to win, he got the most votes, that is the way that is measured.

I know that some people have wondered why Kara was crying after Allison was eliminated even though she never seemed to show her much love.

Don’t forget that we see only parts of it all. There is a lot more judge/performer contact that we don’t see. Many bootees have talked about how much advice Simon and the other judges have given them.

  • Victoria

I canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t figure out Kara crying behind stage after Allison was voted off. She never acted like she was a big fan did she?

I think she realized how much potential Allison has and was frustrated that she wasn’t tapping into all of it. IMO that’s why Kara didn’t come across as a huge supporter of Allison’s.

i always thought kara was allison’s biggest fan. i got the impression that kara herself has been itching to work with allison. seeing the clip in this video where kara says there’s a line of people in her industry dying to work with allison only makes me believe this more. kara thought allison was amazing.

I think Kris and Danny will have the bigger turnouts at their homecomings. Smaller towns, people go in for that type of thing in smaller towns. San Diego prove me wrong, please. Seriously please. McPhee’s turn out in L.A made me extremely sad for her & she was not my horse in that race. Darn wish I could go to San Diego for Adam’s :down_tb:

  • Tess

I am trying so hard to come to terms with Adam’s going home party. By the time I was 8 years removed from the area where I grew up there wasn’t anyone around there that had known me. Besides, Adam’s “home town” is a suburban residential neighborhhod just off the interstate into San Diego. I know “going home” makes for good TV but heh California is California. Nobody walks the streets, nobody has front porches, you go to the big shopping malls or downtown SanDiego to shop or eat. Everything is a franchise, there isn’t any local burger shop where the locals “hang out”. Besides I don’t think either of his parents live in the same area anymore and of course Adam doesn’t.

At some point AI has to come to terms with the fact that the kid from small town middle America that goes to the big city and finds fame and fortune is, in reality, pretty far from the truth. Someday, someone on this show will have the balls to replace this archaic TV triteness. It was sad for Katherine and Syesha and really pretty lame for Jordin too. Somebody get a clue.

  • Suzanne

You know, this is such an odd season on AI. Such a polarized group of finalists.

People who are good, are great. People who are okay, are barely okay. The top 13 had 6 very talented people (Kris, Adam, Danny, Allison, Matt and Alexis) and 6 people who are far less talented (Jorge, Jasmine, Michael, Megan, Scott, Lil) . . . and Anoop kind of hovered between the two groups.

  • jericho

but heh California is California. Nobody walks the streets, nobody has front porches, you go to the big shopping malls or downtown SanDiego to shop or eat.

California is almost 800 miles long. There are many, many areas of California that are rural, “small town America”.

Regarding Adam’s home coming. Of the millions of viewers who watch AI, there will be thousands and thousands who will travel hundreds of miles to attend this event to get a glimpse of Adam. Hell, if I lived even remotely close enough I would go. I think you need not worry about the numbers of people who will attend.

  • StevenD

To me Allison (along with Adam) was the most exciting contestant that was on this year. She was the only teenager on the show that I thought was an actual performer as opposed to most of the kids that look like left overà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s from American Juniors. She has that amazing sound to her and she performed just as well if not better then most of the others.

I love Adam but heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s been great since the beginning with very little room to grow. Allison was exciting to watch because each week you could see the growth that she had in a way that reminded me of Kelly Clarkson. She was also exciting because she seemed like a real female rocker on Idol compared to someone that was just playing a part.

I think this season is officially over for me and look forward to what sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s going to be doing next.

  • Tess

Of the millions of viewers who watch AI, there will be thousands and thousands who will travel hundreds of miles to attend this event to get a glimpse of Adam.

Nope..ain’t going to happen. He’ll have a nice crowd (and don’t get me wrong I love Adam) but it won’t be anything like the frenzy the smaller hometown visits get. And having thousands of people only means its a spectacle it isn’t “truth”. I believe Adam is wildly popular but “his hometown” isn’t a hometown. He might be from there and he went to school there but it just isn’t a place where its all about community and “rooting for the homeboy”.
I’m just saying that IMHO these visits are really, really hokey and trite and for the most part have absolutely no basis in fact or reality. They just need to dissapear from being part of the Idol show.

  • Lisa

jericho I hope you are right, but I have been thinking along the same line of thought as Tess.

Yeah, I agree with this. “Hometown” means something different to the Midwest boys, no doubt about it.

Plus, I’m not sure, but isn’t Orange County sort of known for being fairly conservative? I suspect there’s a very good reason Adam chose to make his home elsewhere, and not just for the opportunities in LA.

Yeah, I know I live in California. This place is too sprawling. BUT it sounds like Adam is going to have a rocking show so that will bring people out. I think Adam will enjoy it as I think the kids at the high school will get a kick out of meeting him.

AND I do know that some people who were at the UPRIGHT CAFE event came from New Jersey, the Bay Area and even Guam. And everyone knew there was really no chance of seeing him. But now, with a chance of meeting him and watching a performance, who knows, this might be a huge turnout.

With no traffic, it’s about 2 and a half hours from Los Angeles to San Diego, so alot of people from LA can make the trip.

  • OhSoDevine

Its been a long time since I actually posted, but I am here reading every day….you all are exceptionally gifted posters!

I am not a fan of Danny at all, but do live in the Milwaukee area, so I thought I’d let you know what is planned so far. He will have the morning radio station junket and there will be a homecoming parade in downtown Milwaukee around the lunch hour. (Maybe the church members will be parading along with him with collection baskets….Dollars for Danny??)

He is then scheduled to give a “free” concert at the Harley-Davidson stage at the Summerfest grounds and rumor has it that Rick Springfield may join him. Anyone attending the concert will receive a free Summerfest ticket (which is a valuable item in these parts)…..me thinks they want the camera shots to be full!

From there he will be heading to the Milwaukee Brewers/Chicago Cubs game to sing the national anthemn and throw out the first pitch. This series is always sold out so there will be quite a crowd.

Those seem to be the main things being reported in our local media. I, of course, wish I was on my way to San Diego to cheer on Mr. Lambert. Can’t wait to see the coverage of his homecoming!

  • panz

OhSoDevine, thanks for the info about Gokey’s hometown visit. I will have to make sure not to turn on the ballgame until after the anthem. I don’t want to hear him ruin anything else.

Maybe the Cub fans at the game will boo him.

I wonder about turnout in Milwaukee. It’s not exactly a small town, either.

  • Tess

Plus, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not sure, but isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t Orange County sort of known for being fairly conservative?

Rancho Penasquitos is actual a “bedroom residential community” just north of Miramar Air Force Base (made famous in Top Gun) in San Diego County. I can still remember when it was nothing more than rolling foothills…don’t know for sure but the area didn’t start getting built up until the early 70′s. I don’t really know if it is conservative or not, I’ll have to ask my nephew who goes to Poway Community College there. Since Adam was in a youth theater group in San Diego he probably really spent little time in his “hometown” since, unless you are into little league sports there aren’t a lot of other community activities. Unless you’ve lived or been exposed to this type of lifestyle it is very hard to explain.

Kids don’t play on the streets, their driven to a playground. People don’t walk their dogs, they take them to a dog park. There aren’t hangouts where neighbors congregate, you can live next door to someone for years and not know their names. People use their fenced (privacy) backyards and their patios, very few houses have porches. No one walks anywhere, you drive to the 7/11 which is on the corner. Everyone shops at HUGE grocery stores or even bigger warehouse stores, you get gas wherever you are when you run low. It’s a totally different lifestyle than small town, USA.

  • OhSoDevine

    Panz,

I have no idea about turnout. Danny’s brother works at our local FOX station so they appear to be providing much of the media coverage. I will check in tomorrow and let you know what they are showing.

Good idea about the game :)

Oh, and MJ….hello and how the heck are you? Still doing a fabulous job with the blog I see!!

I know, but I’m hoping for the best. He deserves a great homecoming, but San Diego is still a pretty big city. The small towns are usually the best at that kind of stuff because an AI homecoming for them is usually the biggest thing happening that day.

But he’s got some star power, so let’s hope he has a great day.

  • emieloo

I am soooo disappointed – I live in San Diego, but I won’t be able to make it out to see Adam tomorrow… I’m going to Dallas for my cousin’s wedding. :cry_tb:

How often is it that 1) an Idol is from your hometown, 2) you actually LIKE the Idol from your hometown, 3) the Idol from your hometown is your FAVORITE!!!, 4) the Idol from your hometown makes the Top 3, and 5) the homecoming just happens to be on the one weekend you’re going to be out of town – and you NEVER go out of town!

Sorry, I’ve just been having a little pity party ever since I found out Adam was coming here instead of LA.

  • weareallinnocent

Oh man, emieloo, that IS bad. I’d be sad too, in fact, I’m sad for you!

I hope you REALLY LOVE this cousin. LOL

  • primetimemom

    We’re compiling Adam’s schedule here:

    http://idolforums.com/index.php?showtopic=607914

  • Michelle

Rickey.org has schedules for all three homecomings. Kris’ schedule with more detail is up here.

I’m kind of surprised they didn’t have Adam’s homecoming somewhere in LA? There’s nowhere *in* Rancho Penasquitos to have a parade or anything like that. It’s a suburban bedroom community. But I’m not surprised the city of SD couldn’t get its shit together to do anything nice for Adam, the people running things are kind of lame.

FWIW San Diego is not quite as conservative as Orange County…not quite San Francisco either…somewhere in the middle. So I don’t see that the factor so much as, people are not that community-minded here.

Still, Danny is having his in Milwaukee and that is not really a “small town” either….but they’ve managed to pack some events into his visit. Hopefully as more deets come out on Adam’s visit there’ll be more events.

  • sweetie99v

I just read that Adam might be performing at a military base. That would be great if he could perform for the troops. That is something small town America can identify with… lol

  • Niall

I would love it if Adam performs for the troops. Besides it being a nice nod to our service men and women, there will be an underlying irony to the whole thing that is funny (in a sad way).

All right, I’m guessing that peeps are gonna be watching all these streams tomorrow to get us the judges’ choice songs that always are announced on the home visits?? Pretty please?? :)

I’d watch, but I’ll be at work – can’t watch live streams there. If I could, I would. Heh.

  • TKat

Well I have to agree with the comments that it’s difficult to have a “hometown event” if you are from the LA-San Diego corrider. I lived in the LA area twice and it’s not like anyplace else in the US. If Adam was from almost anywhere else in CA, it would be different. And, now that I live in small town Mississippi where very little happens, I know that he would get more people here than in San Diego. No one would miss it — and I think they would have a school holiday.

Well I hope that the turnout is huge and that San Diegans come out in droves for Adam.

  • OutlandoGirl

Has anyone noticed that Kris and Danny seem to be dressing more and more like they shop at Farm Supply?? I guess they are trying to cater to the Country voters who haven’t had anyone to support for weeks.

Though I will give Kris props – I saw a pic on another site that showed Kris with his thumbnail painted black (to support Adam, is my guess) on Rock Night.

  • Chipmunk

  • http://everyopinion.blogspot.com Terrie

My perception is that Adam’s fanbase online and in greater SoCal is much larger and more rabid than Kat McPhee’s was. I strongly suspect that many Glambert fans will drive however long and far is necessary to cheer Adam on.

As a SoCal native and longtime resident of Orange County, I can assure you that San Diego and the OC are similar and similarly tolerant. Both have several thriving gay communities (Sunset Beach and Laguna Beach are two in Orange County and the historic Gaslamp district in San Diego is another). Sumidol, you can explain the San Diego area better than I can.

I work in the education industry in Orange County and I have to tell you that almost every heterosexual male co-worker I know aged 40-65 is a huge fan of Adam. I’m talking blue collar, white collar, every collar of the rainbow. Some were Carrie Underwood fans, some Kelly Clarkson fans, some Daughtry fans, some fans of all three, some are new AI fans. Sure, most of them still vote the straight Republican ticket, but they all think Adam is the best thing to happen to music in a long time.

Hold on here, some of what you describe is true, but not every neighborhood in San Diego is that “sterile”.
I was born and raised and still live in San Diego. I have lived all over the county (the Beaches, La Mesa, North County, etc ) and it is much more diverse than the picture you paint.
Where I live now they do walk their dogs, kids do play in the streets and we can walk to a local restaurant… True about the fenced backyards (thank God, I love my privacy) but my neighbors are friendly and we have monthly block parties in the summer. The individual communities within San Diego have their own local flavor and well, I just gotta stick-up for the home town!

    .

Where Adam grew up, though is probably more like you describe.
That said I sure hope Adam draws a huge crowd!
Wish I could go, but I have a training session at work that can’t be missed.

    Go Adam!

As much as I dislike Danny’s singing, I had a shock yesterday. I learned that my brother and his wife just started watching Idol this year. And lo and behold, my ultra-liberal brother likes Danny the best. His wife likes Kris. My sister likes Allison. Nobody likes Adam the best. I guess Adam’s not the favorite among some mid-westerners. I was always the most progressive in my family, what can I say. I got a chuckle out of it. My brother didn’t know that Danny’s a fundamentalist, that kind of changed his mind about him. I told him he should check out mj’s and other blogs to know the real AI story, lol. They think the judges are funny. They are neophytes (and unjaded) when it comes to AI.

I have my fingers crossed for Adam today.

I lived in Carmel Mountain Ranch (across I-15 from Penasquitos and in the same school district, Poway Unified) for five years in the early 90s and, yes, it’s sterile, but I walked my dog every day for 45 minutes (relentlessly perfect weather, how can you not?), and my DH (who grew up in LA) and I (who grew up in Philly) used to LOL at how such a big city could make such a big deal out of “small town” news. (They would regularly interrupt prime time television to let us know the Chargers had arrived at the airport or have a big news story about a pig that was loose on some farm–yes, lots of farms in San Diego County, a huge, and hugely-diverse county.) Also, unless it was rush hour, it seemed EVERYTHING was just 30 minutes away via the freeways.

At least when I lived there, more than a decade ago, San Diego was like a giant small city. David Cook got a fantastic turnout in Kansas City and in Blue Springs, where he grew up, which I imagine to be a bedroom community too. I’d venture that San Diego has more in common in a lot of ways with Kansas City than L.A. My next door neighbor in San Diego was from Kansas City, my boss was from Indiana, and we knew lots of folks from Chicago originally.

The DH and I always joked that the caucasian population of San Diego could be pretty well described as the “midwest picked up and moved to the beach.” I know I’d be in attendance at one of his events if I still lived there.

Hmmm, don’t know if the troops would appreciate Adam, don’t send him there right now. Personally, I think they might prefer Allison, but she’s a little young, in my opinion, to be going on tour in a war zone.

OOps, didn’t read that blog well enough about the military base then automatically jumped to conclusions that it was in Iraq. Guess my first thought is of Iraq, as my grandson is there. Sorry about that er-roar.
