Welcome to Judges’ Houses…

Robbie Williams makes his entrance

Will this audition get Sam Bailey to the live shows?

Nicholas McDonald gets everyone emotional

Tonight, Over 25’s perform for Sharon Osbourne and Robbie Williams and the Boys perform for Louis Walsh, Nicole Appleton, Shane Filan and Sinitta.

Tonight The X Factor goes global! The boys travel to Saint Tropez (France) and the overs travel to Los Angeles, CA. The Overs arrive to a mansion that is apparently Sharon’s REAL home. Her guest judge is no other than Robbie Williams. He behaves like a God meeting mere mortals.

SAM BAILEY – I Have Nothing – Whitney Houston
What a song choice. The first part seems a bit weak, but then she starts belting and somehow pulls through. Robbie doesn’t know where Sam fits.

LORNA SIMPSON – If I Were a Boy – Beyonce
Pretty solid. Sharon worries about her stage presence.

SHELLEY SMITH – Girl on Fire – Alicia Keys
It’s okay. The song doesn’t really work in acoustic setting.

ZOE DEVLIN – Fix You – Coldplay
Ugh, she is getting the fodder edit – talking over singing. Sharon says Zoe has a quirky voice and good image, but isn’t sure people want to hear her sing big songs on Saturday night with that voice.

ANDREA MAGEE – High and Dry – Radiohead
Andrea plays a flute and sings. Hits some strange notes at the end. Ups. She is an artist, but that note …

JOSEPH WHELAN – I’ll Stand by You – The Pretenders
The rocker finally goes out of his comfort zone. Robbie remembers him from last year.
Okay performance. A bit shouty at the end. Robbie doesn’t know Joseph will go?

Evening. Sharon and Robbie deliberate by the fire.

The boys arrive in St Tropez. They meet Louis on a yacht where he gives them a peep talk. Back at the villa, Louis introduces Shane Filan, Nicole Appleton and Sinitta.

LUKE FRIEND – Cannonball – Damien Rice
Luke really wants to get through. His performance is a bit shake-y. Nerves.

SAM CALLAHAN – We are Young – .FUN
These acoustic performances are really pointless. Sam somehow gets through the song. Nicole thinks he has star quality. Sinitta could see him in a boyband.

PAUL AKISTER – Last Request – Paolo Nutini
Vocally he blows Luke and Sam away.
Shane and Louis love his voice. Nicole says there is something missing.

GILES POTTER – You’re Beautiful – James Blunt
“Fodder” edit. Hits some bad notes. The judges think he is cute. But they don’t think the vocals were good.

RYAN MATHIE – Just Give me a Reason – Pink
Fodder edit.

NICHOLAS MCDONALD – If You’re Not the One – Daniel Beddingfield
Good vocal. I think Paul is the only boy that sings better than him. Starts crying at the end. Shane gets emotional. Louis says Nicholas ticks many boxes for him.

Evening. Louis says he loves 4 people. He shows the other footage from arena auditions. Louis mentions a great singer that isn’t a star and won’t make people vote … I guess that is his reasoning for ditching Paul.

LA. Moment of truth.

Sam Bailey – Through to the live shows!

Andrea Magee – Going home!

Zoe Devlin – Going home!

Lorna Simpson – Through to the live shows!

Joseph Whelan – Going home!

Shelley Smith – Through to the live shows!

Saint Tropez. Moment of truth.

Sam Callahan – Through to the live shows!

Giles Potter – Going home!

Ryan Mathie – Going home!

Luke Friend – Through to the live shows!

Paul Akister – Going home!

Nicholas McDonald – Through to the live shows!

The overs and the boys return to UK. They break the news to family and friends at the airport or at home. I think we saw everyone meet their families … except for Andrea Magee and Paul Akister. Hmmm.

Louis on the boys: ‘Why I chose Luke, Nicholas and Sam’

Tonight, Louis faced his toughest decision yet. He had to pick just three boys at Judges’ Houses to take through to the live shows – and he chose Luke Friend, Sam Callahan and Nicholas McDonald. But even tough-as-a-cookie Louis had tears in his eyes as he sent his other boys home – especially the ‘soulful’ Paul Akister. Frankly, it was a blub-fest all round.

Louis tells us: “There was one person I had to let go – Paul, and I changed my mind constantly about him. He had an amazing voice, but he didn’t have the stage presence. In the end, I had to consider that.

“I think in a year’s time, he will have that and he will be brilliant – but I didn’t want to put him through and him to get voted off in week one or week two.

“I told him my reasons and that it was the right thing for him. But it really was the hardest thing to say.”

With Paul heading home, Louis now has to focus his mentoring efforts on Luke, Sam and Nicholas – and he admits, he’s got some serious competition when it comes to the other categories.

“I think Nicole has got three great girls and Sharon’s act, Sam Bailey, is amazing. Gary’s new girl group are great too. It’s not going to be easy for the boys.

“I chose Luke because he is different – he’s original, he spends all his time listening to music and he’s in it for the music. I find Nicholas to be a very honest singer, he’s very sweet and his voice is genuinely great but he has to work on his confidence.

“Sam’s attitude is incredible and he wants to get out there, pull out the stops and perform. He’s full of energy and that will get him far. But it’s all about song choices now and constantly performing under pressure – whoever is most successful will have to deal with that.”

Crikey, talk about a big build up – the live shows are going to be huge.

Tune in tomorrow at 7.10pm on ITV to see who will be facing the music with Luke, Sam and Nicholas.

The divas have it! Sam, Shelley and Lorna make it into Sharon’s final three while Louis picks Luke, Nicholas and Sam for the X Factor live shows
In the first part of Judges’ Houses, Louis Walsh and Sharon Osbourne were tasked with selecting their final three in each of the Boys and the Overs categories of The X Factor.

‘I know how much it means to him’: Shane Filan breaks down in tears after Nicholas performs at X Factor Judges’ Houses
We’re used to seeing tears during the Judges’ Houses stage of The X Factor, but it’s not usually the celebrity guest helpers who show their emotions.

Shane Filan, 34, was overcome with empathy for Nicholas McDonald after his audition, that he was reduced to tears in front of the cameras.

With Louis Walsh, Sinitta and Nicole Appleton by his side, the former Westlife star said: ‘It’s so hard to watch… I know exactly how he feels.’

Which meant more than a few happy and sad tears were shed by the twelve hopefuls who put everything into their performances at their respective mentors homes.

But in the end it was Shelley Smith, Sam Bailey and Lorna Simpson of the over 25s and Luke Friend, Nicholas McDonald and Sam Callahan who would be heading through to the live shows.

Hope they didn’t run out of tissues! The tears were falling left right and centre as X Factor rejects Joseph, Paul and Zoe were sent home
Every year the tear count gets higher on the X Factor, and this 2013 competition was no different.

And in the running for the most tearful reject at Judges Houses was Over 25s Joseph Whelan, Zoe Devlin and Boys hopefuls Paul Akister and Ryan Mathie.

As they found out they would not be going through to the X Factor live shows, the three couldn’t contain their emotions in Saturday nights episode.
