X Factor UK Headlines for 12/22/13

Sam Bailey gets Christmas #1, sells only 149K copies of Skyscraper. Second lowest X Factor winner’s single debut! She will support Beyonce on ONLY 1 UK tour date.

X Factor winner Sam Bailey could release her album as early as March 2014
X Factor winner Sam Bailey is to begin working on her album next month and it is hoped it will be in the shops by the end of March – the fastest turnaround since the ITV talent show began.

Record bosses are hoping it will be ready for Mother’s Day, on the final weekend of that month, to capitalise on her popularity following her win last night.

The star has now signed a deal with show boss Simon Cowell’s company Syco as part of her prize for triumphing in the contest and she had already issued a digital version of her single Skyscraper.

A spokesman for Syco said: “Sam Bailey is to sign to Syco Music after securing more than a million votes to win the X Factor.

“Sam, 36, will go into the recording studio next month to begin recording her debut album.”

Spending months away from home, working hard on The X Factor, seems to have taken its toll on Sam Bailey’s ten-year marriage.

The 36-year-old, who was crowned the show’s winner on Sunday evening, hopes to use her time off over the festive period to rekindle her relationship with husband Craig, she has told The Sun.

‘It’s been tough. Craig has held the fort for so long… but he wants me back now. I’ve got all of Christmas off. That’s going to bring it back up to what it was,’ she said.

That’s her goal! Sam Bailey performs first gig since winning X Factor at a football ground… and finally spends time with her beloved family
She’s just been crowned the winner of X Factor 2013 and on Tuesday, Sam Bailey was back to doing what she does best as she performed her first gig since the final on Sunday.

The stunning star performed on the pitch in the rain at the Capital One Cup quarter-final between Leicester City and Manchester City on Tuesday.

Sam is a huge fan of the sport and lives locally in Leicester Forest East, so no doubt it was an honour for her to perform at her hometown club’s King Power stadium at half-time.

‘She’s a fat mum in a jumpsuit’: Outspoken Katie Hopkins slams Sam Bailey following X Factor triumph
Her vitriolic outbursts have already led to a heated TV debate with Peaches Geldof, and now Katie Hopkins has taken aim at another unsuspecting victim – X Factor winner Sam Bailey.

The former Apprentice UK contestant was one of millions to watch Sam win a one-sided head-to-head with Scottish teen Nicholas McDonald on the final of the show on Sunday night.

But while many championed the former prison warden for a series of consistent performances last weekend – amongst them a stirring duet with Nicole Scherzinger – Katie has waded in with a string of insults.

‘She’s not going to bring me down’: Sam Bailey stands tall after media meanie Katie Hopkins calls her a ‘fat mum in a jumpsuit’
Sam Bailey’s riding high after her X Factor win on Sunday and it seems even mean jibes from media meanie Katie Hopkins won’t even get her down.

The singer said: ‘If [Hopkins] wants to go round slating people then that’s her prerogative; if that’s what she likes doing then that’s fine. It’s not gonna bring me down.’

Former reality TV contestant Katie Hopkins wrote in her column for Best: ‘The X Factor 2013 has ended in a painful showdown between a fat mum in a jumpsuit and a small boy in whatever his mum laid out for him on his bed.’

Finally! Sam Bailey eventually hears from new boss Simon Cowell THREE days after winning X Factor in ‘surreal’ phone call
She might have been left wondering whether it had all been a dream, as X Factor winner Sam Bailey still hadn’t received that call from new boss Simon Cowell three days after winning the competition.

Although on Wednesday she could breathe a sigh of relief as Simon did finally call, even calling the singer a ‘babe’.

In an interview with The Mirror the X Factor winner Sam called the phone call with Simon a ‘surreal’ experience.

X Factor’s Sam Bailey will miss almost all of Beyonce’s tour dates
X Factor winner Sam Bailey won’t be appearing alongside Beyonce for most of next year’s tour.

It was revealed in the run to the weekend’s final last week that this year’s champ would support Beyonce on the UK leg of her new tour next Spring.

But it seems that no one on The X Factor actually thought the idea through that much, as the Beyonce tour clashes with the X Factor live tour.

For example, when Beyonce is playing the O2 on March 1, the X Factor tour is hundreds of miles away in Glasgow.

It means that Sam will barely be appearing with Beyonce, with priority being given to the X Factor’s live stage show when dates clash.

Sam Bailey: Can the X Factor winner last beyond the show?
We’re just going to say it: this year’s X Factor wasn’t a golden year. By that, we mean there was no Leona, no Olly, no Alexandra, Little Mix or even a Wagner or Jedward. With the exception of Tamera Foster – who has all the components of a brilliant popstar but hasn’t quite worked out how they fit together yet – there wasn’t a whole lot to get excited about with this year’s lineup.

But it would be cruel to label the winner Sam Bailey as the best of a bad bunch. She does, without question, have a fantastic voice that was able to cope with the tired and limiting themes it was hit with each week; including disco, songs from films and, worst of all, ‘Best of X Factor’. From week one, she was the act you could depend on for a great vocal performance and as such the only one worth tuning in for.

But she didn’t enter The Voice. She entered (and won) a show where the voice is just part of the package. Where looks, personality and ‘star quality’ are also vital components of what it means to have the X Factor. And in Sam’s case, the only trait she’s missing is the star quality bit – the thing that can’t be taught, PR’d or phoned in with glossy production. So what are her chances at a long-term career post-show?

An Xmas treat for X Factor winner Sam Bailey
SAM Bailey says the best thing about winning X Factor will be spending Christmas Day with her kids instead of prison inmates.

The former prison officer, 36, said: “I’ve worked Christmas Day for the last three years so it’s amazing to be able to spend it this year as a family.

“I would normally have to leave about 11am and wouldn’t get back until about 9.15pm.

“So this year I’m going to make the most of opening the presents with the kids and eating Christmas dinner with the family that the hubby will cook.”

In previous years Sam and husband Craig Pearson have had to scrimp and save to treat Brooke, eight, and Tommy, four, to presents.

I felt betrayed by Louis and Gary never liked me: X Factor loser Nicholas McDonald hits out at judges
The X Factor runner-up Nicholas McDonald has criticised judges Gary Barlow and Louis Walsh over their treatment of him in the final.

The 17-year-old has accused Take That singer Barlow of ‘not liking’ him after he was the only one of the four judges to refuse him a standing ovation for his performance.

The Scots schoolboy was also ‘disappointed’ by his own mentor, after Walsh urged viewers to vote for his rival, winner Sam Bailey.

The judges’ actions were met with fury by family and fans of the singer, known as Nicky, with his mother Eileen branding them unprofessional.

However Nicholas said he was not disappointed to have lost out to 36-year-old prison officer Sam Bailey, because it means he will be able to return home to Scotland for Christmas.

One Direction 2014 tour will top $1 billion
ONE Direction are set to smash another record – by launching the world’s first $1billion tour.

Huge ticket sales for next year’s Where We Are stadium tour have put them on track to surpass rock gods U2 and The Rolling Stones by becoming the first act to break the billion dollar mark (£610million) in a single year.

If that wasn’t enough, 1D are also set to eclipse U2’s record for average tour attendance which stands at 66,110 for their 2009-2011, 110-show 360° Tour.

U2 and the Stones currently hold the top two spots for onthe-road earnings, raking in £467million and £341million for their 360° and Bigger Bang tours.

Harry, Louis, Liam, Zayn and Niall already have 88 dates booked for 2014 at some of the biggest stadiums in Europe, South America and the US.

Venues that hold 80,000 plus concertgoers have already sold out across the US, as have others across South America and Europe.

One Direction smash UK record for biggest first day sales of any music DVD, ever!
One Direction are continuing to break new ground in the lead up to Christmas 2013 – storming to an all-time speed record with sales of their new video release This Is Us.

1D’s documentary/live movie This Is Us sold 170,000 DVD/Blu-ray copies in its first day of release in the UK yesterday (Thursday) – the biggest first day sales for any music DVD/Blu-ray in UK chart history.

The incredible launch compares to previous fastest starts for Michael Jackson’s This Is It (which sold 109,000 copies in its first two days on sale in February 2010) and Take That’s The Circus Live (which sold 95,000 in its first two days in November 2009). By the time the weekly chart is finalised on Sunday, One Direction’s This Is Us could even challenge Jacko’s This Is It’s first week record of 260,000 – based on just three days of sales.

This Is Us is also currently leading the overall video/DVD market for the week – after just 24 hours on sale it is already on course for Number 1 in the Official Video Chart this weekend, beating off competition in what is traditionally the biggest week of the year from Despicable Me 2, The Croods, Man Of Steel and the Manchester United Class Of 92 release.

The British songstress stopped by for a pair of holiday performances before discussing her next full-length.

Leona Lewis has been getting in the holiday spirit lately: her debut Christmas album, “Christmas, With Love,” arrived earlier this month through Syco/RCA Records, and on Thursday night (Dec. 19), the U.K. singer will bring her festive new single “One More Sleep” to the “X Factor” finale. Earlier this month, Lewis brought the song — as well as a few backup vocalists and some cheerful choreography — to the Billboard studios in New York for a performance and Q&A about “Christmas, With Love.”

X Factor’s Ella Henderson set to finally launch her album in 2014
Well after a year since appearing on The X Factor and Ella Henderson is finally set to launch her album.

The teenage singer proved a favourite on the 2012 series ever after her original audition, singing one of her own songs.

However, Ella was eliminated in a surprise bottom two sing-off against eventual winner James Arthur, much to the anger of the judges.

Since then Ella has become rather quiet, deciding to work on her record rather than rushing a release.

“It’s been an absolutely whirlwind, my feet haven’t touched the ground,” Ella said of the past twelve months. “I’ve been writing since March, I’ve been to LA, New York, London to record.

“It’s surreal and ridiculous.”

Nicole Scherzinger to front UK fashion brand Missguided – meaning we can afford to look like her
Most women would love to look like Nicole Scherzinger, and pretty soon you’ll be able to… well, sort of.

The singer and X Factor judge, 35, is being lined up to front a new fashion range.

British brand Missguided has been chatting to Nicole about getting her own line.

Simon Cowell returns to X Factor after signing £25 million deal making him the highest paid entertainer ever
Simon Cowell will return to the UK X Factor in a deal that will make him the highest paid entertainer ever, according to reports.

The deal – which will also see him remain with Britain’s Got Talent – will last for three years, apparently.

The Sun claims that the deal will only be final when Cowell is released from his contract with the US version of the singing show, though it’s unlikely the US X Factor will be cancelled as despite its declining ratings, it’s still a steady performer and relatively cheap to produce.

If that happens, the paper claims that Cowell will receive just half the amount due to a clause in the contract, which still works out at a healthy £4.15 million a year.

Last month Cowell inked a deal to ensure that both shows would return to ITV until at least 2016 in a deal worth a reported £150m.

Sam Bailey scores Xmas No.1 with 148k sales: Official Charts Analysis
SINGLES
Barely a week after winning The X Factor, Leicester prisoner officer/housewife Sam Bailey also wins the battle for the Christmas number one, debuting in pole position with her cover of Demi Lovato’s hit, Skyscraper, while Lovato’s original – a number seven hit last year – re-enters at number 37 (9,213 sales).

It is the 10th time in as many seasons that the winner’s coronation single has reached number one – but only the sixth time that an X Factor act has had the Christmas number one.

Although selling well over twice as many copies as runner-up Pharrell Williams’ Happy, Bailey’s debut came with sales of just 148,853 – a modest introductory total for an X Factor coronation single. The only one to sell fewer copies on its debut was the very first – Steve Brookstein’s version of Phil Collins’ Against All Odds. The full list of X Factor coronation singles, and their first week sales is as follows:
