X Factor Australia 5 – Results Week 4

The bottom two is really no surprise this round. Ellie’s version of “Wings” in addition to her body of work leading up to this performance isn’t up to par with this competition. As far as I was concerned she had no real shot of winning. The other act in the bottom 2 isn’t so much of a shocker, but JTR is back after last weeks appearance. I wanted them to kick it into high gear this week and kill us with their “Want U Back,” but they spent so much time avoiding harmonies that it didn’t work for the voting public either.

Mega props to Ellie Lovegrove for picking an uptempo number for her save me song. Probably the best she has sounded all season. That being said, aside from a few shouty moments, this song doesn’t go anywhere. She at least knew the limitations of her voice and picked a song that made it excel. Fantastic choice for JTR with “Waiting on the World to Change.” They do their best on ballads. If they want to make more traction in the coming weeks (ok three weeks, let’s be realistic) they need to do ballads during the performance round and not the bottom 2 showdown. All that being said, Ellie was the right one to go, even if it had to go to deadlock to make it happen. If the right thing happens, it’s all ends justifies means in my mind.
