Woody Allen’s Lawyer Defends Him on the Today Show

Woody Allen’s lawyer speaks out on his behalf in the wake of daughter, Dylan’s open letter detailing the abuse she suffered at the director’s hands.

“In my view, she’s not lying,” Elkan Abramowitz said of Dylan. “She truly believes this happened.”

According to Abramowitz, Connecticut state police had brought in investigators from the sex abuse clinic of Yale-New Haven to investigate. “They determined after a six-month inquiry not only that (the molestation) didn’t happen, but that Dylan was coached by her mother,” he said. “And that’s important, because everybody now talks about the presumption of innocence. He is innocent.”

“(Allen’s) reaction is one of overwhelming sadness,” said the lawyer. “The idea that (Dylan) was molested was implanted by her mother, and that memory is never going to go away.”

“Woody Allen is now riding fairly high,” Abramowitz said. “I believed it revived the anger (Mia) has toward him.”

I was on the fence about the abuse allegations before, but Dylan’s account was so precise, and her pain so palpable, I believe her. Via Today

Also, on The View yesterday, Barbara Walters passionately defended Woody, saying she had witnessed the director being a kind and sensitive father toward his two adopted daughters (now teenagers).

When Sheri Shepherd pointed out that basically, things aren’t always what they seem, Barbara became indignant. I’m totally Team Sheri here. Terrible things can go on behind closed doors without anyone suspecting. “I can’t believe it, he seemed like such a nice guy!” is a common refrain when molesters are outed. Dumb, Barbara, dumb.
