Christina Grimmie isn’t a Youtube star for nothing. She knows how to choose a song and change it up to make it uniquely her own. That’s what the singer did this week when she chose picked “Hold On We’re Going Home” by Drake to sing for The Voice Top 10.
The singer’s strong vocals and amazing range impressed the audience. Christina knows howw to use her voice. Every note she sang felt well placed, rather than gratuitous.
The Voice coaches were full of praise. Blake Shelton declared that Christina went from a singer to an artist tonight. “That sounded like your song,” he said.
Usher said that her rendition of his song would make Drake proud. “It’s definitely earned you a spot on the finals.”
Shakira called it her best performance, “by far.” She added “I think that was insane, what you just did.”
Her coach, Adam Levine, said it was remarkable how a 20 year old singer did something so fearlessly, and completely on her own. He admired her artistic choices, and her conviction to see it through. Her coaches praise had Christina tearing up a little.
Christina’s phrasing is crazy impressive, she hit a high note at one point I did not see coming.
Check out the performance for yourself.
