Update on Jennifer Hudson Family – More Details on Family Foundation, Public Memorial Set

Jennifer Hudson and her sister Julia have started a foundation to help families of murder victims in honor of their slain family members. Here’s the address:

The Hudson-King Foundation for Families of Slain Victims
c/o Abrams Garfinkel Margolis Bergson, LLP
Attn: William L. Abrams, Esq.
237 West 35th Street, 4th Floor
New York, NY 10001

I posted something about this a few days ago, but the details were still a bit sketchy.

There’s been a break in the case. The gun police retrieved near where Julian King was found has been identified as the murder weapon:

Tests have confirmed a .45-caliber pistol hidden in bushes on the West Side had been used in the slayings of Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Hudson’s brother, mother and nephew, officials said.

Police Supt. Jody Weis told reporters he was “extraordinarily pleased” by the break in the case.

Detectives are continuing to investigate if the gun can be linked to William Balfour, the estranged husband of Hudson’s sister Julia Hudson, sources said. Balfour is considered a suspect but has not been charged in the slayings.

And, a   public memorial has been scheduled:

Any members of the neighborhood and public may attend a service that will be held this Sunday, November 2. Jennifer and her sister Julia will not attend the service for their mother, Darnell Hudson Donerson, their brother Jason Hudson, and Julia’s son Julian King, but other members of the family will be there.

The service will be a chance for the neighborhood to come together to grieve the lost members of their community, and speakers will talk about the lives of all three victims.

A private, invitation-only service will be held from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. From 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. anyone who wishes to pay their respects to the deceased Hudson family members is welcome at the event, which will be held at Pleasant Gift Missionary Baptist Church, 4526 S. Greenwood, Chicago, IL, 60653.
