Billboard reports that One Direction’s “Drag Me Down” debuts third on the Hot 100. That eclipses Maroon 5’s “Sugar” as the highest debut of any song in 2015. The song also becomes their best seller moving 349K units in its first week. That makes for their best selling week for a single topping their previous personal record of 341K for “Live”. The song becomes their first to top the On-Demmand chart and their third to top the Digital Songs chart. The song was 12th on the Streaming charts. All in all, not a bad week…
For singles. For albums it is a different story. It was a very bad and sad week for album sales. The Descendants topped the album sales chart with just 30K in sales (Billboard). That is the lowest in Soundscan history for the BB200 (pre-combined) and the new Top Albums charts. 42K in combined sales is also the lowest since the combined BB200 chart appeared (40K was the lowest on the BB200, but that was back when the chart was based strictly on album sales). This week looks like a more impressive week for album sales. One of those two guys should have released a week earlier.
