The American idol top 3 are in New York City for some press. On Monday morning the newly crowned winner, Trent Harmon, performed his winners single, “Falling,” on Live! With Kelly and Michael.
“That was ridiculously good!” exclaimed co-host Kelly Ripa after the performance. “You have an incredible voice.” Michael Strahan quipped, “I would hit that note, but I don’t want to hurt myself!”
“I’m a farmer,” said Trent about his upbringing in North East Mississippi. “That’s what I’ve been doing my whole life. My parents have a little restaurant, I do that on the weekends.”
The singer explained that after he returned from doing mission work in Belize, he walked into the open calls. “I just walked across the street.” He didn’t even tell his parents he was auditioning. “I didn’t want them to know, because if I didn’t make it, I didn’t want there to be any fallout.” He didn’t tell them until he was “deep into Hollywood Week.”
For fans of the hat, Trent has brought it back! He’s also sounding in pretty fine voice this morning. The boy has obviously done his warmups.
