The Voice’s RaeLynn Drops New ‘Lonely Call’ Music Video

In RaeLynn’s new Chris Hicky-directed video for The Voice singer’s new single “Lonely Call,” she helps a friend through a breakup while encouraging her to dodge her ex’s calls.

“What I loved about this treatment was that it was so relatable,” RaeLynn told Entertainment Tonight in a recent interview. “I also loved getting to play the empowering best friend because it’s an important relationship in every girl’s life.”

The song was inspired by a brief breakup between RaeLynn and her now-husband, Josh Davis.

“We dated for eight months and broke up … the song is verbatim how I felt,” RaeLynn told ET. “I remember him calling me one night and he wasn’t being mean or anything like that — when you’re together and you’re so in love, you want to call the person even if you’re not together. I was like, ‘I’m not your lonely call! I’m a Texas girl! I’m gonna be this and this and this.’ I wrote the song and everytime [Josh] hears it he just laughs. He goes, ‘I always regretted breaking up with you, but listen, you wouldn’t have gotten any of these songs if I didn’t do it.’ I was like, ‘Whatever!'”

“It’s really funny to go back and sing it,” she added. “I’m like, ‘Man! I was so angry.'”

Supporting roles in the video are played by RaeLynn’s real-life friends, including sister-in-law Heather Davis, The Goldbergs star (and X Factor USA alum) Hayley Orrantia and Nashville newcomer Lindsay James “LJ” Hague.

“Lonely Call” is the second single off of Raelynn’s latest album, Wildhorse, after “Love Triangle.” Her The Voice mentor, Blake Shelton, is a big fan of the song. “I played him this song a long time ago, when I was like, 19,” Raelynn said. “He’s always fought for this song. So when he found out that it was going on the record, he was like, ‘This needs to be your next single. I don’t know why you’re thinking of any other song.’ That’s when we were like, ‘This is definitely the right thing.'”
