Watch Hawaii native, Thunderstorm Artis perform a soulful and original rendition of The Beatles’ classic “Blackbird.” on The Voice, as the Blind Auditions continue on Monday. Thunderstorm–that’s his real name–is from a family of 11 kids, which include six boys and five girls.
Coaches Kelly Clarkson, Nick Jonas and John Legend couldn’t hit their buttons fast enough for the singer. It took a minute, but Blake Shelton eventually hit his button too, resulting in a 4-chair turn.
“That is what this show is all about!” Nick gushes. “Your vocal control was just perfect.”
Kelly is sure that Thunderstorm can win the competition. “I think it would be cool to take songs, and then you totally twist it,” she suggests and notes that she has “navigated a competition as a singer before, and ended up winning.”
Blake compliments Thunderstorm on his control and composure. “You’re so intertwined and connected to that guitar, I can tell by listening to your playing, that’s…maybe even more important to you than anything else going on.”
John reminds everybody that he’s a stingy button pusher. But he’s usually fast, when he hears that “magic.” In fact, he was out of his chair before the performance finished.
Who will Thunderstorm pick? The next episode of The Voice airs on NBC Monday March 2 at 8 pm.
