Ariana Grande announced a few days ago that she will be joining The Voice for the Fall 2021 cycle as a coach. The singer is a pretty big pop star. If fans assume she will earn the big bucks, they are correct!
According to Rob Shuter from iHeartRadio’s Naughty But Nice podcast, she’s the highest paid coach in the 20 season history of the show.
“Sources say Ariana is getting a whopping 20 to 25 million dollars for the show, putting her in the same category as Katy Perry on American Idol. Kelly Clarkson got about $15 million when she joined The Voice,” he reported adding, “that was at a time when Idol was rebooting and they wanted to make sure that they had the first winner of Idol on The Voice.”
Ariana enters the show as fellow pop star Nick Jonas exits. It’s worth noting that NBC is still willing to lay out the big bucks for The Voice talent, even as the show’s ratings have hit series lows this season. Monday’s first Battle Round show for season 20 only pulled in a 0.7 rating in the 18-19 key demo, tying with American Idol. It is the lowest rating The Voice has ever garnered for a non-clip show since it premiered in 2011.
Perhaps the idea is that if NBC casts huge stars, the fans will follow. But Nick Jonas is at the height of his career success, yet casting him didn’t result in a bump in the ratings.
