The trouble with The Voice Blind Auditions is the first week is always front loaded which means the second week are full of ho-hum performances.
The only singers who really caught my attention in a big way were Ryan Quinn (Can’t Find My Way Home) and Malik Heard (Chains). The other singer’s were varying degrees of solid to meh. My guess is that tomorrow will be more of the same, while a few heavy hitters are saved for Monday’s “Blinds End Battle Begins” show.
ETA: Let me qualify. It wasn’t a terrible night of performances. Other than the aforementioned standouts, there were solid singers such as Hannah Houston, a music newbie with a natural gift, and I thought Brittany Kennell brought a fresh perspective to “Strong Enough.” Kristen’s vocal on “Mad World” were stylized to a point I found distracting. …Or maybe I shouldn’t have eaten that taco last night.
Cringeworthy Moment of the Night: Andy Grammer’s wife auditioning and not getting a single chair turn. Nobody even bothered to introduce Andy after his wife was rejected. Why didn’t someone stop that woman from embarrassing herself on national television? Or maybe she’s really a better singer than her audition revealed and she choked.
