The Voice 9 Premiere Part 1 – Take the POLLS

The Voice is back, and there were no surprises tonight. It was your typical mix of good and so-so singers, poignant backstories and artists who don’t look like they sound. The show might be past the point, after 8 seasons, where it can surprise us. The Voice has settled pretty comfortably into a format that works: Coaches antics and hijinks as they good-naturedly battle for contestants. Which coach will nab that singer on a four chair turn?

You’ve got your Blake Shelton and Adam Levine frenemy bromance. Adam’s still a try hard and Blake’s the big jokester unafraid to admit he knows little about pop music. Pharrell Williams remains the wise Buddha, asking questions and delivering zen-like advice to the hopefuls. And Gwen is her usual bubbly self. Still, it’s working for them. The ratings may dip a little compared to past seasons, but I expect the numbers to remain fairly steady.

The first night talent boasted some standouts, including the 15 year old “old souls” Siahna Kim and Braiden Sunshine. On the other end of the spectrum, is 35 year old high school teacher, Barrett Baber, who performs with a heartfelt country croon, sure to melt the hearts of many. Energetic soul singer, Mark Hood’s winning personality and vocal chops could take him far. Jordan Smith and his uniquely soulful tenor has potential.
