The Voice 4 – Top 5 Semi-final – Results, Recap, Videos

Sasha Allen and Amber Carrington are eliminated

YAY! Michelle Chamuel made the final 3! When Carson announced the show had “record breaking” voting last night, it gave me a little hope that Michelle could make up for the iTunes votes she lost when she missed making the Top 10. And it turns out, that’s exactly what happened. Michelle has had consistently good performances on and brought excitement to The Voice stage. She deserves to be in the final.

Although I do feel bad for Amber Carrington. She’s a better and more versatile singer than either The Swon Brothers or Danielle Bradbery. I honestly never knew what to expect from Amber, and that may have been the problem.  Coach, Adam Levine, pushed Amber to take risks. Unfortunately, they didn’t always pay off. That Blake Shelton kept his team firmly ensconced in their comfort zones made for some dull TV, but in the end, it created a consistency and predictability that earned both Danielle and the Swon Brothers fan bases. So good on them, I guess.

Oh Shakira. You 86’d your girl Sasha Allen with cheesy disco. When I saw her song choices on Monday, I knew she was headed for disaster. If Sasha had Usher for a coach, how much further could she have gone? Guess we’ll never know. When Shak comes back in the spring, she’s going to have a tough time putting a decent team together. What artist in their right mind would want to be mentored by her?

So, it’s on to the FINAL next week. Yep, The Voice is finally winding down to a close. It’s been a long singing competition season kids. But we’ll be starting up all over again when fall rolls around.

Tonight, it’s The Voice semi-final results. Two contestants will be sent home, plus alums, Tony Lucca, Nicholas David, Terry McDermott, and Fall Out Boy will perform.

Record breaking voting last night, says Carson, but he supplies no numbers.

First up Fall Out Boy performs their single “Light Em Up” with Michelle Chamuel supplying background rock screams! Super rad. Adam has an intense look on his face as he watches. Maroon 5 are rivals, kind of.

Carson chats with the judges.  That Amber can sing anything is a real luxury, says Adam. Shakira says Sasha’s biggest strength is her determination. Usher calls Michelle a winner, no matter what happens tonight. She’s overcome every obstacle. “The standard changes every time someone steps out and does something different.” As a newcomer, Usher is surprised to have made it this far. Blake feels his contestants are connecting because they are superstars. “I’m just the drunk who tries to stay out of the way.” Carson keeps calling the viewers “Amurica,” a some sort of goof on middle America.

Season 3 alum, Nicholas David sings a little acoustic ditty called “Say Goodbye.”  He performed a lot of old school soul in competition. But it looks like he’s settled into Americana post-Voice. He sings backed by twangy guitars. It still sounds really old-fashioned, though. Nicholas is releasing a 4 song EP tonight and plans to tour next year.

The Voice Confessional: Coaches secrets revealed. The Swon Brothers end up in blond wigs dressed as Shakira.

Time for results! Stupid questions first. Sasha Allen is once again all blah blah, I’m doing this for my family blah blah blah.

America voted, and the first finalist through to next week’s finale is Michelle Chamuel!!!!  YES YES YES. The competition reality show gods LOVE ME!!!  I’m surprised they didn’t save her until the end, for the suspense. Many expected her to go home.  She looked VERY surprised.

Christina congratulates Michelle up in the SKYBOX.   “It’s crazy,” says Michelle. She wants to thank everyone for supporting her.

Season 2’s Tony Lucca is next to sing “Never Going to Let You Go.”   Too bad Christina isn’t around. I’m sure she’d love to see her old Mousketeer pal again. Har.  The song is a very pleasant Hot AC pop rocker.  The EP is finished and should be out July 16. The single is available today.  Tony is signed to  coach Adam Levine’s label. They are LIKETHIS! BUDS. In September, Tony will open for Kelly Clarkson and Maroon 5 on tour.

All 5 acts get together to sing Poison’s “Every Rose Has Its Thorn.” Put your lighters in the air and wave along!!!

The 4 remaining acts take the stage. What has Danielle learned from being on the show? SHE HAS GROWN SO MUCH AS AN ARTIST. Blake has helped her do it. She is so honored to be on the show.  The Voice has turned into Miss America. The second finalist moving on to the finale is….from Team Blake…Danielle Bradbery! SAVED BY AMERICA.

Terry McDermott, from Season 3, is back to sing “Pictures.”   I never understood why Terry didn’t sing more contemporary music during the competition.  The anthemic Brit-pop he’s singing suits him just fine. The EP comes out in Scotland next week. Not America? He says Hi to his son Liam. His wife is expecting a girl in 3 weeks! Former coach, Blake Shelton, congratulates him on the new song.

More results. The last finalist moving on to next week’s finale is…The Swon Brothers! No shock there.  Adam must be so disappointed.  Team Blake and Team Usher representing in the finals.
