The blind auditions wrap up next week! The last singer, seventeen year old country singer, Savannah Berry, stole the show tonight. Vocally mature beyond her years, we’ll see what she brings to the competition in the coming weeks.
Audrey Karrasch – “Price Tag” by Jesse J – She began modelling in New York City at 17, but she’s wanted to sing since she was a little girl. She moved to Charlotte, NC to follow her dreams. Oh. She thinks she’s going to be judged on her talent rather than her looks. HA. HA. HA. HA. Audrey is really energetic–fearless, really. And for pop, she’s got the right look and a solid voice. Blake is the first to turn around. Usher is next. Blake gets so mad when that happens! Adam begins goofing on Blake, but Audrey cuts him off, calling him out for not turning around! This girl is spunky. I bet she picks Usher. She’d be crazy not to, actually. And it doesn’t take much persuasion. She’s Team Usher.

Brandon Roush – “A Little Help From My Friends” – On the weekends, he jams with his band. During the week, he works with kids who have autism. He’s got one of those big, classic rock voices. He falters a little on the big note, but it could be nerves. He’s very soulful. However, Shakira is the only coach who spun her chair. Blake wasn’t expecting to see “a white dude with long hair” when he turned around. WHAT? He’s a CLASSIC ROCK singer. What did you think he would look like? Shakira loves the depth of his voice and the way he hit that high note. He’s on Team Shakira.

Betsy Barta – “Set Fire to the Rain” – She’s a Minneapolis street musician. She got over a lot of her fears singing for change. BUMMER. Nobody turns around for her. She had a nice enough voice, but she was a little generic. Nothing special. Blake thought she bit off a little more than she could chew with Adele. Usher says he’s looking for something really specific, “You’ve got to take the good with the bad. Adam runs up on stage to hug her when she begins to tear up.

Next is montage of vocalists who weren’t picked, including a singer who mangled “Battlefield.”
Patrick Dodd – “Walking in Memphis” – He’s 35. He’s known his wife since middle school. As a young man, he played in bands, but eventually, he quit music to earn money as a landscaper. Oh this song choice. It’s a competition reality show staple. Another one that needs to be retired. He’s a soulful singer from Memphis…Get it? Thank you Captain Obvious. He’s decent, but the growly soulful white guy? Been there done that. He doesn’t bring anything special to the table. Shakira and Adam turned for him. Shakira warns him not to underestimate her. She’s a very determined woman. Adam loves the density and rasp in his voice. He picks Team Adam. Not a surprise.

A few quickies. In other words? Cannon fodder! Trevor Davis lands on Team Blake, C Perkins winds up on Team Shakira and Algina Alverez finds a spot on Team Blake
Orlando Dixon – “So Sick” – He’s a Berklee graduate. His dad didn’t raise him, but has a relationship with him kinda sorta. Orlando has a pleasant, soulful voice, but it’s wholly unremarkable, and unsure. Currently, he’s a wedding singer, which does not surprise me. Orlando’s family is watching–the cry and scream when Usher spins his chair at the very last minute. Orlando has loved Usher’s music forever, and was hoping he would turn around. Orlando talks excitedly about buying his Mama a house. Slow down there, skippy. We’re getting a little ahead of ourselves here. Usher feels Orlando is a diamond in the rough with a lot of potential. He joins Team Usher

Savannah Berry – “Safe and Sound” – She’s only 17! She’s a You Tube star! An online cover of “Stuck On You” led to her performing the song with Sugarland on an awards show. She’s vocally mature and sings with passion and beautiful phrasing. Adam is the first to turn around. Shakira is next. Blake is third. After mentioning that she loves Sugarland and Miranda Lambert, Blake waves around his wedding ring to get her attention. Shakira attempts to persuade Savannah by calling the veteran judges “jaded” and the best–“deaf.” But of course, it’s to no avail. Savannah chooses Team Blake.
