The Voice 3 – Blind Auditions Continue

I will be live blogging The Voice tonight. I think a problem with this show is that I have forgotten all of the other contestants already. Except for Urkel girl from Chi-town. Or maybe that’s a problem with my memory? Peeps, if you go on this show, make sure you are memorable.

Recap. I need to cut my nails. It is making typing difficult.

Michelle Brooks-Thompson is 28 and sings for customers at the bank while she balances family life. Her husband tried to get in the NFL and made the Rams, but was cut. She feels as if she is trying out for a team and knows the reality of what happened to his dream. Their kids are so cute. She’s singing “Proud Mary.” Risky. Adam turns! Blake wants Xtina to turn. She does at the end. Adam is impressed by stuff he can’t do and thinks she’s incredible. Xtina was waiting for a crack or a flaw, but had too much fun and had to see. Blake admits he’s an idiot. Cee-lo bull shits. She picks Adam. She’s tearing up and thanking God and her family.

Peruvian Diego Val is 25 and lives in Miami. He had disease that affected his hip bones when he was eight. His grandmother gave him a guitar. He sings for kids in hospitals. Wants to give back. He’s singing “Animal” and playing guitar. I like is passion but nobody is turning. Maybe I’m a sucker for hospital visiting peeps (see Young, Ace). Oh, there goes Cee-lo. Yay. Christina may snatch him up later. Adam agrees. Diego is happy. Xtina fans herself and says he’s hot.

Lauren Brooke has been singing since 10. She had dyslexia and it made her shy and self-conscious. Her uncle also had a learning disability and she lost him 4 years ago. He helped give her courage. She moved to Nashville to do country music. This performance is the cherry on top. She’s singing Carrie’s “Cowboy Cassanova.” She’s pretty, but I think that was too risky. She’s not Carrie. Nobody is turning. Can’t say I blame them. Adam and Blake mention her pitchiness. Xtina encourages her to practice.

Suzanna Chofell from Texas teaches music to kids for a living. She thinks singing is how she expresses her soul. She has worked her butt off and it’s her time. She’s singing “Landslide.” Adam turns quickly. Blake eventually turns too. I like her tone but it is a little derivative. She did change it up a bit. Xtina thought Adam and Blake were all over it. Adam says he turned first. Blake calls Adam a jackass and says he could get her to the finale. She has a tough choice, but goes with Blake.

Montage of snippets of Blake’s choices.

Yale football player, Dez Duron from last year returns. I don’t remember him. Oh well, he’s cute. Why quit Yale? They lost this weekend to Cornell, btw. He has something to prove. He won’t back down. OMG. I love “Sarah Smile” and Blake turns at the falsetto. Xtina turns. Now Cee-lo. He’s back! He is originally from Louisiana. Girls are screaming. Cee-lo says soul music is his forte. Xtina says it’s her forte and she loves gospel as well. She says the sky is the limit. Playing hard ball. Blake says he’s hot and he was the first to turn. He compares him to Elvis. Xtina and Blake are fighting for him. Xtina wins this round.

California music teacher VJ loves Cee-lo. His background is jazz. He’s also cute. He wants to walk the walk and talk the talk. He wants to take the next step. He’s singing Cee-lo’s “Forget You.” He does lots of runs, he says. He hopes they like his version. Here we go. He has some dance moves and a falsetto. Nobody turns. He goes down on his knees. I like this kid, but he’s out of luck. Xtina says his version lacked spank. Cee-lo says he has great taste in music. He’s going to show him how to sing the song. They duet. Fun. The good nature of this show towards it’s rejects is refreshing.

Alexis Marceuax writes music and also quit college. She’s from Nawlins. She evacuated during Hurricane Katrina. It devastated her. She lost everything, but her family survived. Music was her therapy. She vented through music. She’s singing “Go Your Own Way” for her hometown of New Orleans. Cee-loo turns. He says she has a solid voice and she has smart girl chic. I think he means librarian chic. ;-) Cee-lo is surprised he was the only one who turned.

Montage of others who joined a judges team.

Brandon Mahone sings classical stuff, he says. He’s 17. He likes old school soul. He left Chicago for Indianapolis because of gang violence. He’s very happy for that. He wants to give his mom and family a better life. He’s ready. He’s singing “I Wish It Would Rain.” Adam turns. Cee-lo joins him. I like this kid. Xtina joins the mix. Blake holds out. Brandon has a cute sweater, a nice smile and a good falsetto. Xtina feels the emotion. Cee-lo waxes philosophical about the Temptations. Brandon says his grandparents influenced his musical tastes. Adam says he’s a real soul singer and doing his own thing. He picks Adam!

Don’t forget to download from iTunes if you wish. MJ will provide the link.

Valet Jeffrey James is from Indiana but lives in Nashvegas. He is fine with shameless self-promotion. He’s singing “Little Less Conversation.” Doesn’t want to keep parking cars. Music is his life. It’s do or die. This is karoke for sure. Oh, wait. He’s on cruise ship touring Transalvania. Opps wrong show. Sorry Jeffrey. Nobody turns. Yet they are nice anyway. Cee-lo says that’s the name of a star. Adam likes his tone. Blake says too late. Too bad, so sad. Jeffrey is not giving up.

Montage of other rejects.

Jordan Pruitt had a record deal with Disney. Toured with Cheetah Girls, Miley Cyrus, and Vanessa Hudgens. She felt pigeon-holed by Disney. Ahem. Anyway, she loves Xtina and wants to sing more mature music. All she needs is a coach. She’s singing “The One That Got Away.” Xtina turns. I don’t like her that much, but what do I known? She’s a cute girl. Xtina has been waiting for her. She loves the energy and the falsetto. Adam congratulates Jordan and says Xtina is great. Cee-lo compliments her looks.

Terisa Griffin is 42 and having a hot flash. Her dad gave her a car and she drove to Chicago. She got a gig with Jerry Butler and was able to get a place to live. She’s going to leave it on the stage, she says. She hopes this is the avenue to success. She will not give up. She’s singing “Someone Like You.” Enough with Adele already. But she sounds good. Nobody is turning. Finally Xtina and Blake turn in that order. Xtina says she heard some nerves. Blake says screw Xtina. He wants her. He has a lot of respect for singers and said she was at the top of the list. Terisa wants to know what they will do as a coach. She’s a firecracker. They’re getting schooled. Blake tells her to punch him in the face, but she hugs him and he serenades her. She chooses Blake. Cee-lo says Blake has his hands full. Fun.

Thoughts? Are you enjoying this season? Or did you turn into TWTS? Who is your favorite so far? Do you miss Purrfect? I sure do.
