The Voice 24: Nini Iris Bluesy ‘I See Red’ Earns a Quick 4-chair Turn

The Voice 24 Blind Audition Preview: Nini Iris Bluesy ‘I See Red’ cover earns a quick 4-chair turn

Nini Iris’ performance of Everybody Loves an Outlaw’s “I See Red” may sound familiar. That’s because NBC used clips of the performance in their The Voice season 24 promos.

Now, finally, the bluesy Blind Audition will air on Monday’s (Oct 9) Auditions 4 episode.

As you may have already guessed, Nini’s big voice rendition of the song, featuring exquisite and well placed runs, got coaches John Legend, Gwen Stefani, Niall Horan and Reba McEntire to turn their chairs really quickly.

After her performance, the singer shares that she’s 27 and from the country of Georgia (American Idol featured a Georgian singer, Nutsa Buzaladze earlier this year. Nini has been living in Brooklyn for the past 7 years.

“I think we’re looking at a potential winner here”

Niall, promising to fight hard for the singer, says, “That was the best vocal of the day, without a shadow of a doubt.” He adds, “The pop rock singer in you really came to fruition. It was so strong, powerful, commanding.” Niall declares, “I think we’re looking a potential winner here.”

“Your singing is absolutely spectacular,” says Reba. “I love your stage presence. I think you could sing anything,” Reba adds, before resorting to the “you could sing the phone book” comparison. The kiddos have no idea what a phone book is, so maybe shelve that one?

When faced with John, Nini calls him “Mr. Legend” and is obviously star struck. “You had all of these things going on with your physical presentation,” he says. “But the first thing we heard…was your voice.” John remarks, “The nuance and the tone was really subtle and cool. You gave us…a soulful rock performance today.”

When John asks, Nini describes her sound as “definitely powerful, a strong independent woman, fierce.” Reba calls that a description of “a great country song…I can help you with that!”

“The fact that you can flip so easily between different styles in your voice is just so exciting for this show,” says Gwen. “This is like a boot camp and you have a big job ahead of you, because you’ve already given us…a Grammys performance. The confidence you have is just supernatural.”

Nini wrote One Direction Fan Fiction as a teen!

Nini admits that growing up, Gwen was one of her big influences. But then adds that she was a big One Direction fan too. She reveals, with only a tiny bit of embarrassment, “I’m not ashamed to say that I wrote maybe a few fan fictions when I was a teenager.”

John wants to know more! “When you’re young and you love somebody, you just want to meet them so bad. So you write about your dreams of meeting them,” Nini says. John quips, “You know what’s sad? When reality doesn’t live up to the dreams we’ve had!”

Now, Nini has to choose which team to join. Find out who the singer chooses when The Voice airs on NBC Monday October 9 at 8 pm.
