The Voice 24 preview: 4-chair turn Jordan Rainer honors new coach Reba McEntire with a cover of “Fancy”

Here is your first look at The Voice season 24 as country blues singer Jordan Rainer takes the stage with a Reba McEntire classic.

The Voice 24 premiere will open with a four chair turn as Jordan honors one of her favorite artists, freshman coach Reba McEntire. However, unlike John Legend who rarely turns for artists who cover his songs, Reba was delighted with Jordan’s version, and enthusiastically hit her button.

However, she had competition from her fellow coaches, John, Gwen Stefani and Niall Horan. The 33 year old lives in Nashville, but is from Atoka, Oklahoma and a huge fan of homegirl Reba. She explains that she chose the song because it was “written by a strong woman, made famous by a strong woman, and it represents lyrically what woman do to survive, and I am a woman who has done what I’ve had to do to survive,” she adds, “I feel that song in every bone in my body.”

Country star Bobbie Gentry wrote and recorded the song back in the 60s before Reba had a big hit with “Fancy” in 1991. She considers it one of her signature tunes.

Former The Voice coach Blake Shelton looms large

Gwen drops her husband Blake Shelton’s name, but pledges to help Jordan grow as an artist. She hints that Blake would assist with her song choices. “Oh pulling that card, now really,” Reba responds. To Niall, Jordan confesses that she sports dark sunglasses on stage “because it bothers my mother.” She says this as mom and dad laugh offstage, obviously used to their daughter’s snarky wit. Niall compares the music of his home, Ireland, with country music, adding “you are definitely a country star.”

But once Reba begins talking, sparks fly. Jordan mentions that she recently played Reba’s bar in Atoka. Jordan moved to Nashville 8 years ago with a husband and a weiner dog. “Still got the wiener dog,” she quips. As Reba continues with her pitch, Niall pushes his button, which prompts recordings of Blake’s voice paying nice compliments to Niall. Reba responds by pulling out a scepter and declaring herself the queen. The antics are never ending in this segment.

“You are a real deal singer,” John remarks, “with a great range, great charisma, great stage presence. You’re gonna do fantastically on the show.”

To find out which team Jordan chooses, tune into The Voice season 24 premiere on Monday, September 24 at 8 pm ET/PT on NBC.
